Re: [ubuntu-uk] Ubuntu Phone questions
Hi Gordon, To be perfectly honest, if you are looking for a great fully developed reliable phone, Ubuntu is not quite there yet unfortunately :/ The things that I personally find annoying is that it takes 4 seconds for contacts to load and than when I choose person to call - another 3 seconds for the phone app to load. It doesn't seem a lot, but it is long enough for you to notice that you are waiting for your phone. Also volume levels do not adapt when headset is plugged in. Unfortunately I cannot answer your questions except for camera - definitely worse than Nokia (in spite of much higher resolution). I am a bit confused about the storage - website says 8GB, my phone settings says 6.8GB, 2,5 used by the OS, and I think I have an internal storage of 2GB in, not sure if it is included here or no... All being said I can see this phone really has a potential, I really like how certain features are and I am not coming back to Android (definitely not to Windows). I believe that the more programmers will have this phone the faster it will develop and I am willing to wait. If you need a reliable phone, with all functions you know and need - I would stay with Android for now, but as far as I understand you can load Ubuntu on some of the devices - just for trial run... What email, calendar, tasks and contacts apps are available? 2. Does it come with an ODF viewer/editor? 3. Presumably the apps in (1) will sync with Caldav/Carddav servers? 4. What's the build quality liks compared to, say, Samsung S4 or a Sony Xperia? 5. How good is the camera? 6. How much storage is available to the User out of the box? I live in N Staffs - is there anyone on the list that lives reasonably nearby who has one, that I could come along and have a look? You might want to hold off until Monday as Meizu look like they are about to announce theirs. However, there is a thread about experience on this list and the general consensus suggests that it isn't quite ready for primetime. Thanks for that - the problem is now not so urgent, as I've managed to sync my Windows Phone (I hate Android!) with Memotoo and so to my two Xubuntu laptops... :-) However, there is a thread about experience on this list and the general consensus suggests that it isn't quite ready for primetime. Yes I saw that - I assumed that was about the first releases, and that it might have improved for general sale... -- ubuntu-uk@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-uk https://wiki.ubuntu.com/UKTeam/

The BQ devices have now received their second major update. We are just starting to see the big issues being resolved. I think it is the best phone I have ever owned, both for hardware and software. But in order to make that statement I'm having to look both at where it is today, and what the developers are aiming at. The biggest issue really is the lack of big name apps, the fact that the selection is perhaps a little narrow (no spreadsheet available, no uk based ebay stuff etc) So if you are not really a user of apps it will be fine, but if you can't make do without a facebook chat client, ebay sniper and turn by turn GPS, it's not ready for you. -- ubuntu-uk@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-uk https://wiki.ubuntu.com/UKTeam/
