I think you'll see a bit more activity once people know when and
where it is, especially if popey tweets that he will be there and
available for people to touch him, pre-chew his food etc.[1]

Cheers,
Andy

Definitely!

All I'm waiting for is a date to yes/no to, just decide :)

This is perfectly normal. Many people will hedge their bets, not
committing until the last minute. Many wont add themselves to polls or
wiki pages but will just turn up. If we rely only on that wiki page or
doodle poll and do no further promotion then in all likelyhood nobody
will turn up.

However if we promote the event then more people will sign up and more
will turn up on the day.

The sooner a location and date is set the better. The later you leave
it the more likely people will have other things in their calendar.

Cheers,
Al.

[ubuntu-uk] Ubuntu UK GeekNic - 2010

2010-05-31 Thread Joe O'Dell
-BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE-
Hash: SHA1

Hi All,

I've had a few people ask me lately about the status of the Ubuntu UK GeekNic
this summer, so I think it's about time that I explained it all, again.

For reference, here is the Wiki page:
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/UKTeam/UKGeekNic2010

Basically, it has all ground to a halt because I have received little to no
response outside of the Doodle Poll, (which has 7 people on it); Editing on the
wiki for ideas fizzled out after the first few days also.

I've also not been apparent on #ubuntu-uk for a number of reasons, pertaining
not just to personal but also social.

Anyway, if anyone has any ideas at all, or would suddenly like to attend,
please scribble them on the wiki and add yourself to the doodle poll.

A location and date will be decided within 2 weeks.
(At the moment, it looks like the 8th of August is the best date for most,
although this may change if anyone else adds themselves)

Regards,

Joe
