Thanks for the reply...I did try without Automatix several
times...Automatix was a last resort..
As to the complaint to the bbc I cannot reaally do that as I have no
problem on my home computer with either mplayer or realplayer..It is
just on my friends box where I am having problems..

You might need to un-install mplayer manually via Adept (or Synaptic) before
you install it with Automatix. And also make sure you have the newest
version of Automatix.

first step, remove anything automatix has done, it just causes problems,
breaks systems and gives support people a big headache. not supported
and please do not use it :).

Second step, e-mail the bbc to compain about their web service being
bias towards propiatary systems when we have free formats available for
them to use :)

typically at the bottom of a video stream it has 'open in a standalone
player' you could try copying that link into a standalone realplayer and
playing from there.

The problem I'm having is playing the video clips on the BBC news site,
can anyone else view them?

2005-10-07 Thread Dave Meikle
Hi,

To get round this I just disable the use of the firefox plugin for viewing certain types of file using the following :-
Preferences - Downloads - Plugins , then tick or untick depending on
wether you want the plugin to hand it. This allows you to click the
link and then when the dialogue comes up ask it to open the file in you
desired application, I use totem.

With regards to the win32codes just download them from the MPlayer codecs site and extract the files into /usr/lib/win32.

If you file a bug for this could you post the number so we can all check it out.

Cheers,

Hi Baza,
i also am usuing 5.10 and some media files do not work for me,

(ie http://www.foo.com/foo.wmv) stop firefox, and save the file like

Although i had the problem in 5.04 too
