If Linux desktop continues to be taken up well, will Microsoft produce I version of Microsoft Office for Linux (like they do for Mac). That'd make compatibility a little less of an issue. Re: [ubuntu-uk] Anything like publisher?
WRT Wine/Crossover, I wouldnt' be on it... the latest version of Publisher (when I installed a trial on XP) told me that unless I updated my Virus Checker (which alledgely wasn't approved by Microsoft) I would not be able to save any files. Be scared... very very scared... Sean -- ubuntu-uk@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-uk https://wiki.kubuntu.org/UKTeam/

Don't forget, If you get really stuck - there's always Crossover Linux and perhaps Wine? that would run those irritating but essential Windows programs without Linux alternatives. Dianne, Many thanks for your offer, yes please do send me a copy of the Viva Designer manual. I will look up the programme, unless you know where to point me to? I seem to remember that the tutorial was hard to find on the website, so I'd be happy to email you a copy if your partner wants to compare it with Scribus. Re: [ubuntu-uk] Anything like publisher?
Publisher is the most awful piece of software... the default formats for saving ensure that even folks with Publisher can often not open documents produced with later versions and, unlike with Powerpoint etc., there isn't even a "Publisher Viewer" available for the unfortunate Windows users who fall into this category. You don't say what it is she has to do to it... if it's modifying it for presentation later in Publisher then I think you're probably fairly stuck... if she has the mandate to alter it to display in Openoffice then that'd be a plan... it is, after all, free on Windows too so she could install it at work and use that for the presentation when the time comes. I think the only way of getting around this would be to copy and paste the contents of the document from Publisher to something like OpenOffice.org Draw or Scribus on a Windows machine. Scribus is first class. Go for Scribus-ng because it is more advanced. I do all my newsletters and leaflets on it -- Regards Pete Redwood [EMAIL PROTECTED] On Monday 19 November 2007 21:17:36 [EMAIL PROTECTED] wrote: > I have got my partner so far hooked on Ubuntu, but she has brought some > work home and one of the documents she has to work on is produced via > Publisher.
