It's a shame it only has an 8GB Solid State Hard Drive, where as the XP
version has a 16GB Solid State Hard Drive.
I think the Asus eeePC 901 is a better device with it's 20GB Solid State
Hard Drive. It is nice to see Ubuntu offered on the Dell though :-)

If you go to the customise screen for the Ubuntu version you see a
Windows Vista icon against the operating system line, even though it's
Ubuntu! How crazy is that?

So to start the argument:

Which would you prefer?

Dell Mini 9 or the Asus Eeepc

I'd go for the Eeepc, my Wife has a 701 and it's a great little machine.

Dell seemed to have missed the Cheap part of this Small-Cheap-Computers thing.

I bought a number of 701's. whilst I agree they are nifty little units,
the actual build quality or finish is not as nice as the ones that are
coming to the market now, such as Acer Aspire One and Dell Mini 9.

The price difference isn't huge, and I would argue it's worth it,
although each to their own :). I can't quite condone getting another
ultra portable laptop as the 701's do the job, but I would like to
replace with the newer ones.

Kind Regards,
Dave Walker

I love my eee, and so do my kids (8 11 yrs).

this is from a cafe in Karon beach, Phuket. shortly after this shot I
switched to Ububntu - slightly slower to startup, but more robust feels
like a real computer.

that said, I haven't tried the dell, so no basis for comaring.

I noticed that, they seem to be creeping up in price and spec. The 701 seems
just right to me, 4GB internal storage, half a GB of RAM. All for somewhere
around £150.
