Andy,

I think your mistaken with what i actually wrote in the last mail i sent, it
was just the last
paragraph, starting andy.. I do not use gmail, though i have an account. I can
see why
it looks like i wrote more of it with the auto added 'James Dalley wrote:'
Sorry for any confusion..

Hi James
I think Gmail does not follow some standards anyway. It also makes it
harder for a reply to be bottom posted, which causes difficulties in
technical lists.(such as this).
It is worth the effort to find how to do what you actually wish, (and
I encourage you to consider bottom posting).

I am sorry, surely I have to click 'reply' on gmail to reply to the point being
made by that particular person? but then it clicks to the top and not the
bottom as requested by the Guidelines. If I click 'reply to all' would that not
spread the point too wide? Advice please- Caroline

I get messages from two lists in this mailbox; one has Reply-to
munging, the other doesn't. I keep forgetting to look at the
addressees before clicking Send.

Hwyl,
Neil.

P.S. does anyone know how to get Gmail to start the reply below the
message? I rarely top-post, but it's annoying to have to delete the
blank lines it's added above the message and move the cursor *every*
time. :-(
Even Outlook has the option!

Heh, craftsman, tools, etc.

I've learnt from bitter experience to look at the addressees on my
emails.

I mind it because it makes me look stupid.

That's what I use. Click "Reply", trying to reply to the author, not the
list. Read the link. :)

Erm no: he's right. Reply-to is set to the list address on list emails.

I'm not new. I'm just guilty. :)

I actually meant to send that as a reply to mdke's post only. However,
this list has reply-to munging
( http://www.unicom.com/pw/reply-to-harmful.html ) which is annoying,
and as a result, it got sent to the list. Why is it that this feature is
turned on?

My mail was in reference to a conversation that we had on IRC, that I'd
not expect anyone else to recall.
