I seem to have broken my Jaunty install.

It boots up okay but I am unable to type anything in the login
boxes... cursor won't go there, though the Username box does
 display...

Anybody have any idea where I should start looking?

this probably isn't useful and I am sorry if it isn't but regarding
Jaunty it is reccomended on the website that it isnt installed till
?23rd April? or at least for another month is it still in beta level so
can I suggest (I be in the same boat as you, my friend) that you roll
back the drives and work on ibex till Jauntys official release.

I guess I would go to the console with Alt-Ctrl-F1, log in there and
start looking at log files etc especially those to do with the X server
starting up etc. You might try restarting X by hand and see if any
errors show up.

Regards,
Tony.

No, it's a laptop and I'm using it now on XP (dual boot)...

Will go to Ubuntu now and see if I can find anything in the logs...

Well, you know, the whole purpose of beta releases is for people to
actually download them and use them and report problems, so that the
bugs are found fixed before release!
