The LoCo one is linked at the bottom of

already set up with a checkbox for Karmic. The one Neal linked is the
Canonical one that comes with pressed CDs.

They do come sleeved. Jaunty's looked like this:

It's a single fold, with one side being a slide-in CD holder thing.

I don't know if they already come sleeved, but if they do it may be
easier to use glabels and make a nice label to stick on the Ubuntu
provided sleeve.. they come in different sizes from standard mail labels
to one's meant for .. VHS tapes (if anyone remembers those) :)

Another thought/idea is when we hand these CDs out why not hand them out in our
LoCo CD sleeves? That way its double advertising. It'll take a bit of work but
in the end worth the extra tine prior to hand-out.

Just a thought.

Yup and since the RC is out now would be a great time.

Looking forward to getting the CDs.

The other question, is Neal going to email them all out or is he going to send
it out to someone else and have them take the loco orders?

Do we have anyone willing to mail them out to everyone and the recipients pay

I think it's now clear that "we" need the CD pack and that the need is
far greater than the supply. I personally plan to give away more than
250 with or without the order.

Re: [Ubuntu-US-CA] Placing Team Karmic CD Order

2009-10-22 Thread Grant Bowman
I think it's now clear that "we" need the CD pack and that the need is
far greater than the supply. I personally plan to give away more than
250 with or without the order.

Neal, please order it or delegate someone else to order it ASAP.

It seems like we can take advantage of the CD pack, should we send it to
Neal, then send off "mini-packs" to people who want it? We could also flip a
coin or something if people want it first (to ensure they get it for a
release event or something)

I think we can use them all, since California is a large state. I can
certainly distribute at least 25 personally, not including any parties
or meetups.

I think we'd use it, I can see it being useful to have during the release
festivities, if only to save the servers from getting hammered for upgrades
(though I suppose there is bittorrent).

On a related note, Canonical changed the criteria for how many CDs
non-Ubuntu member individuals can receive through ShipIt. This won't
affect getting CDs as a LoCo, but I figure some of the people on the
list might individually be affected by it:

Good catch, Grant. If we can get it sent to only one person, maybe we
can alternate between sending it to NorCal and SoCal? (maybe have it
sent to Grant this release, then someone in Southern California next
release)

2009-10-21 Thread Grant Bowman
According to https://wiki.ubuntu.com/LoCoGettingCds we have two more
days to place a team order for Karmic CDs in order to avoid
unnecessary delays. Who will be placing this order?

To learn from our experiences, I am documenting the predictable steps
we take for each release at

encouraged.
