Thanks. have you tried restarting your router/modem? [*yes*] if it's showing your network but not displaying the icon for being connected, it's at least detecting your network so i don't think it's a driver issue, unless i'm wrong. [*not showing a network*] you could also try connecting to your router/modem by ethernet cable to see how that works. [*used ethernet cable - did not not connect*] if that connects with no issue, then i'd say it's the wifi signal where it may not be strong enough to reach your laptop. have you tried sitting closet to your wifi ap? [*i sit right next to the at&t wifi gateway*] usually a modem/router restart helps. [*did that*] you could do it either by unplugging everything and giving it like 60 seconds to make sure everything has drained of stored energy and then reconnecting everything. if you know how, you could also get into the router by way of its IP address. usually that's 192.168.1.1 but it may be different for you but that's generally the default IP address for most routers. you just put that in the address bar and enter. the username and password are usually on a label on the router itself. [*i have entered the wifi name and password into ubuntu, i had wifi and internet prior to this breakage.*] Do you know of a way I could download a fresh version of 16.04.3 LTS to a USB drive, with that drive including bios to reload and create a new system on my computer? My Ubuntu 16.04.3 LTS has suddenly stopped bringing up the WiFi network connection. The Ubuntu displays my Wifi network but will not bring up the network connection. Ran network-manager restart, but no network connection. Can you advise or refer me to someone with knowledge in this area. has anybody has issues with large emojis such has hearts showing up in thunderbird? i just installed ubuntu desktop 18.04 to have a look at it after using kubuntu 18.04 for a while now, and when i open thunderbird, there's large heart icons overlaying the text of my emails. so weird. and what's also weird is that this very issue has been there ever since ubuntu 18.04 was released as a daily build back last year. at the time, i was testing this new version of gnome and the problem persisted even after several updates and even reinstalls of new daily builds. i can't remember if i filed a bug for this and i'm going to do it again and go back to kubuntu 18.04 since i've had much better luck with graphical stability. and no weird hearts floating around. it feels like my email's sending me love notes or something. lmao like it's saying 'show me some love!' yeah, i'll show you love when i delete you, you wretched emails! lol so, i'm heading back to kubuntu 18.04 after i file a new bug.
