Re: [ubuntu-us-mi] Glitches with 22.04

2022-11-08 Thread Jeff Hanson
On an older BIOS-based system I've noticed that Firefox seems slower than
20.04 (Xubuntu), probably because of the Snap.

I did reinstall 22.04 multiple times because of Ubiquity not supporting
RAID. It's always a fight and I have to manually reinstall Grub from the
live DVD. Maybe I should downgrade to Mandrake 9 which could do it
correctly.

My only serious problem was a complete system lock-up due to a Realtek
RTL-8185 PCI WiFi card. Bus error and a kernel panic (divide error, fatal
exception in interrupt, etc.) whenever the card was used. This started on
20.04 with a recent kernel update which resulted in the OS being trashed
after multiple occurrences. So I started over with a new 22.04 install
(which had the same problem). I had to switch to a USB WiFi dongle. I
probably should file a bug report about it.

Wildly inexplicable errors are often due to hardware problems. Check RAM
and drive SMART status.

Also try to narrow down the problem with a test of 21.04 and 22.10 or a
different variant (Kubuntu, etc.)

I’m using 22.04 as a base image within Docker. Have not had any obvious
issues.

[ubuntu-us-mi] Glitches with 22.04

2022-11-08 Thread Justin Macauley
Hi there,

Anyone else experiencing major problems with the 22.04 lts version of
Ubuntu? Running slow on fast hardware for instance or your snap store
acting up? Any improvements in the short term release do you know? I've had
to do now two reinstalls of Ubuntu in the last several days and about ready
to disregard 22.04 till the next LTS update. Frustrated by it. Hoping
someone else has some thoughts. This issue seems to be made worse by the
installation of programs (glitches and bugs) into the os.
