Re: [Ubuntu Oregon] LTS Release party.

2015-10-11 Thread Phillip N
Walter - You are correct, I don't think we figured out this release party
thing (when, and where) yet.
Yes - please check with Ben to see if we can hold release party at Mozilla.

As for "when" - As most of you know, this April 2016 is Ubuntu's Long Term
Support (LTS) release, it would be cl to have the release party to
celebrate LTS. If its decided to have a release party, we (James, Cody, and
Phil) feel it best to celebrate the LTS release.

However LinuxFest Northwest will also be taking place during April 23-24,
2016. So this could once again cause a scheduling conflict with some of
our key members / contributors, in less we have LTS release party first
week of April or perhaps sometime in May ;-) Where the weather "May" be a
"Bit" better. LOL.

This is simply some suggestions, and is completely up to the rest of the
LoCo team.

Thanks Walter, and all.

Re: [Ubuntu Oregon] Ubuntu meeting.

2015-10-11 Thread Phillip N
Che,

I concur with what Cody said; Here in Salem we have been staying at around
3 people pre meeting, with a few visitors who temporary attend to get a
problem or two solved. Stay vigilant, because people will eventually show
up. Some things we found that work here in Salem are:

* Small flyer (poster) half page, the larger ones seem to get taken down
more often to make room.
* Meet at least once pre month at the same place and time.
* Meet on a weekday, (Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday evenings work best,
because many people leave town on a Friday for the weekend, and most
holidays fall on a Monday, so those days near the weekend may not be as
good a turnout.) However you may find in your area, that people may be
willing leave their own town to travel to yours on the weekend ;-)

Just a few ideas though - great work on LoCo evens page.

Ciao for now
Phil. N

Re: [Ubuntu Oregon] Release party?

2015-04-16 Thread Phillip N
Sounds to me like some of our key members, who have been great contributors
(U know who UR) are going to be at LFNW, AND due to the short time frame
we'd be facing, not to mention, Canonical requiring several months notice
to approve funding. That said; looks like we'll have to wait until October
to hold a release party, as suggested by Benjamin.

As for location - I'm all for holding it in Salem, however I would ALSO
like to hold it at Mozilla, because I'm a big fan of FF. That is if we can
plan our event (which maybe sometime during first or second week of
October) around Benjamin's schedule. Plus it'll be great to see those
members, who otherwise would have been at LFNW. AND of course we have
more time to do as Walter suggested; we can ABSOLUTELY get a jam pack full
of goodies. ;-) Very nice - much thanks Walter.

I'll be at tomorrow's Salem Ubuntu held at Broadway commons, while there,
Cody and I can check on conference room pricing for October, just in case
we can't get Mozilla. Even though I'm for going to Mozilla or bust... LOL.

Thanks all, for supporting a truly great OS.

giving me the kick into the door I needed. I currently live with my wife in

love the bike lanes here and the beer is awesome. I'm originally from Cork

been a supporter and user of Ubuntu for several years now, my first taste
of Ubuntu was 8.04 as far as I remember (not as young as I used to be). My
epic Linux journey started when a friend of mine from Chicago introduced me
to OpenSUSE (KDE). I liked it but at the time I was big into retro gaming

Re: [Ubuntu Oregon] Ubuntu Hour schedule?

2015-03-04 Thread Phillip N
You are correct - it is in fact the First and Third Fridays.
An easy way to remember is the first two odd Fridays of each month.

Hope this helps

Re: [Ubuntu Oregon] Salem Ubuntu Hour, Friday

2014-12-18 Thread Phillip N
It'll be a holy holiday miracle, if I get time to attend Friday's Ubuntu
Hour.
So I'll wish everyone a happy holiday, and a happy new year.

P.S. I'm really looking forward to reaching normality sometime after the
holidays, and looking forward to seeing the gang.

Re: [Ubuntu Oregon] IRC help (was: Re: Thank you.)

2014-11-20 Thread Phillip N
Thanks, Walter, Cody, Thomas,

I'm familiar with iChat, Pidgin, and Empathy, which is the default IRC in
Ubuntu.
My problem was not app based, it was Logging in via web interface.

Because Standard Operating Procedure (SOP) calls me to simplify any
situation, I was therefore trying to directly log in to web based IRC
w/out authentication. I have recently discovered that logging in through
Ubuntu One first, solves many a log in issues - go figure... LOL. Problem
solved.

I'll eagerly await this evenings irc meeting at 6:30pm, to see it all
works.
BTY: I think tonight's topic is review of UOS.

Thanks everyone for your support.

Re: [Ubuntu Oregon] Ubuntu Hour this week?

2014-07-11 Thread Phillip N
James, is correct regarding Salem's Ubuntu meeting days - so I second his
statement.

The local Salem OR Ubuntu - meets on the First and Second Friday of each
month, at 6:00pm at our normal meeting location - Broadway coffee house.
1300 Broadway St NE #100, Salem, OR 97301. So there is no meeting this
Friday 11th of July.

Re: [Ubuntu Oregon] Gauge use of a Mumble server for the LoCo

2014-01-09 Thread Phillip N
Cody,

I think you have a great idea, and having a VoIP Ubuntu help line similar
to Call for Help, which was a tech help show with Leo Laporte as host
technical adviser for the show, that aired during the great tech epoch of
the late 90s. Where Call for Help was phone based, the Ubuntu Call for
Help would be, as Cody stated online via VoIP.

If implemented with usability, interoperability, and of course security in
mind, then this could become a huge benefit to the Linux Ubuntu community.

My only concern is requiring a client app to be installed, as this detracts
from both usability, and interoperability, by requiring client to first
install an application before they can seek help.

Q1. Is there any existing turn-key web based solutions, that doesn't
require software to be installed, instead uses the browser, or at minimum a
browser plug-in? ;-)

I still think it's a great idea, regardless of how it's implemented, and
can only further help the Ubuntu community.

Cody - if you can't find a server to run your VoIP idea, please let me know
and I'll see if I can allow you to use my company's server.

Respectfully submitted for your consideration,

Sincerely

Phillip. N (Chief Technology Officer - Delta Triad)
