Re: [Ubuntu Oregon] Release party?

2015-04-26 Thread Thomas Mashos
My only reason for saying to not do dueling events is so we aren't doing an
event in salem that only 10 people show up to because everyone already went
to (or plans to go) to the PDX version. I'll plan to attend a 16.04 event
in either portland or salem. I think a poll is a good idea, but don't make
it a "Would you rather go to an Ubuntu event in portland or salem" (because
obviously more people would rather go to the closer event). I'd rather ask
"Would you go to a 16.04 release party in salem if there wasn't a release
party in PDX".

We did an event at free geek for the 7.10 release I think (it was our first
event). I've not been back since, so IDK if they have improved their venue
but IIRC there was no setup for talks (projector).

Re: [Ubuntu Oregon] Release party?

2015-04-26 Thread Thomas Mashos
I'm for a Salem event, provided that it's not the same event that is being
thrown in Portland. (eg. if 15.10 release party is in portland, lets not
also have a salem 15.10 release party). The Broadway commons is a nice
venue, perhaps just because it's new, but also has a decent amount of
parking (much better than downtown portland). I'd say lets throw a 16.04
party there, but I have a feeling the PDX crowd will try to throw one as
well since it's an LTS release. In any case, I'll throw in ~$100 for the
venue and some pizza (although we'll definitely need more pizza money). I
do have a few questions about the broadway commons venue.

1) Are we charged for the coffee shuttles per number of people that attend,
or by the room size? Lets say we get a room with seating for 60 people but
only 40 people attend. What is the charge?

2) Are the coffee shuttles limited to coffee? I don't drink caffine, so if
we could get a couple hot chocolate shuttles (or juice) that would be great
(even if there is extra cost).

Your email didn't make it through, and I don't know the credentials
for the list (apparently it's still owned by Ben). I'll answer you
here.

The Ubuntu Hour in Salem is not a Ubuntu Oregon team meeting, it is a
Community Outreach event. Thus, you are correct in that it will not be
moving location, date, nor time (unless the people running that event
deem it necessary to move for the community and/or Broadway coffee
house says we can no longer use the location).

As for regular team meetings, while those haven't been scheduled in a
long time (probably due to a single person doing most of the work),
traditionally those were held on IRC in the team chat room.

I don't recall when the last release party was (13.10?), but IIRC we
had good turn out for all of them. Not sure if Ben kept numbers, but
he was always working hard to get pizza and shirt sponsors, talks, and
a venue (puppet labs in Portland) for the release parties.

Thanks,

Re: [Ubuntu Oregon] Ubuntu Oregon Flyer Feedback

2012-06-25 Thread Thomas Mashos
I apologize, I didn't realize this was a mockup, and didn't look close
enough at that text. Probably would have helped if I had read Ben's
email as well. He pinged me in the IRC chat room but didn't tell me
we're looking to add text, so I didn't read his email. /embarrassed

Thanks,

Re: [Ubuntu Oregon] Ubuntu Oregon Flyer Feedback

2012-06-25 Thread Thomas Mashos
I've reviewed the flyer, and here are my notes.

* No contact information. We're handing people flyers, they go home
and then what. We expect them to Google us? Lets get a web address and
maybe an email of the team lead on there as well.
* There is no english text under School and Home (presumably on the back)
* I question the need for non-english text. Further, the non-english
text is only on the back and although I cannot read it, presumably the
entire text isn't translated. If a need for an alternate language
flyer is needed, perhaps there should be a second flyer.

Thanks,
