[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 376722] Re: [i945] i945 don't recognize 1440x900 in ubuntu jaunty

*** This bug is a duplicate of bug 288807 ***

I'll see the original bug but the monitor that isn't correctly
configured is the external 19 LCD monitor, the laptop panel is instead
correctly configured. The other point is: why didn't this problem exist
on the previous release?

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 374090] Re: Samsung NC20 installation problem(test pattern on screen)

2009-05-18 Thread Martin Olsson
It would be valuable to have the xorg.log from jaunty as well even
though I realized that would be pretty hard to get. When you have USB
booted into 9.04 jaunty and you see a distorted screen that looks a bit
like Ubuntu running (not the usplash progress bar), is it then possible
to press CTRL-ALT-F1 to get to a text based terminal? If so, maybe you
can install the ssh package from there and scp the xorg.log to another
computer? Also, I suspect jaunty tries to use the -openchrome driver on
your machine so if you switch to vesa (the driver you used on 8.04) it
might work better even though I'm not sure how to do that if the screen
has graphics corruption.

2009-05-18 Thread boulder
Hi

I've tried the new 180.60(beta) and its still unstable.
Nvidia seems to have bad support (or blame the problem) on SMP SLI which I
have.

So I tried using the kernel boot parameters pci=nommconf and noapic.
But its still unstable.

I'll try and bite the dust with maxcpus=1 :-(

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 377288] [NEW] Totem crash at init on ubuntu 9.04

2009-05-18 Thread Launchpad Bug Tracker
You have been subscribed to a public bug:

Binary package hint: totem

Totem-gstreamer works fine with many videos formats on Ubuntu 8.10 but
systematically crashes when updating the version to 9.04. When running
it from command line, I got the following error:

jer...@jerome-laptop:~$ totem
/var/lib/python-support/python2.6/gdata/tlslite/utils/cryptomath.py:9:
DeprecationWarning: the sha module is deprecated; use the hashlib module instead
  import sha
The program 'totem' received an X Window System error.
This probably reflects a bug in the program.
The error was 'BadAlloc (insufficient resources for operation)'.
  (Details: serial 115 error_code 11 request_code 132 minor_code 19)
  (Note to programmers: normally, X errors are reported asynchronously;
that is, you will receive the error a while after causing it.
To debug your program, run it with the --sync command line
option to change this behavior. You can then get a meaningful
backtrace from your debugger if you break on the gdk_x_error() function.)

Is this related with Compiz ? Is there any changes sinc Ubuntu 8.10 ?
Thank you.

ProblemType: Bug
Architecture: i386
DistroRelease: Ubuntu 9.04
ExecutablePath: /usr/bin/totem-gstreamer
Package: totem-gstreamer 2.26.1-0ubuntu5
ProcEnviron:
 LANG=en_US.UTF-8
 SHELL=/bin/bash
SourcePackage: totem
Uname: Linux 2.6.28-11-generic i686

ADD-ON:
A (convenient ???) way to get TOTEM working is to run in command line
gstreamer-properties and then change Video caption-Default Output Plugin
to X Window System (No Xv)...

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 370574] Re: After updated Ubuntu 8.04 to 9.04, Totem 2.26.1 no read video

2009-05-18 Thread Martin Olsson
@Facilys, can you attach the output of xrandr --verbose and also a
copy of your /etc/X11/xorg.conf

You can workaround this by launching gstreamer-properties and setting
the video TAB to something other than XV. However, you are likely to see
very very high CPU usage so it's not a long term solution.

Another way to workaround it would be to use a smaller total resolution.
Do you have a dual monitor config for this box?

Relevant errors from xorg.log includes:

(EE) intel(0): Cannot support DRI with frame buffer width 2048.
(EE) intel(0): Failed to pin xv buffer

2009-05-18 Thread Marcin Giedz
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: xserver-xorg-video-intel

What I did was basically ran KMS on Jaunty using 2.6.30-5 from PPA and intel

there is no flickery which is really great.

2009-05-18 Thread VladNistor
You have stuff installed from multiple sources: xup sarvatt. It's
normal that they won't work together.

This happened to me while mixing PPA sources in Jaunty (the same two). I
suggest you pick one of the sources, either xup or sarvatt and move all
your packages (including the ones you listed above) to the same source
using aptitude. You may notice they use different git sources version
(~514 vs ~515).

After you have migrated all your packages to one source you can use the
new kernel which has improved performance.

The requested files can be found in the attached tarball. The Xorg.0
.log-file is just the bootstrap of my X. I did not backup the log with
the mentioned backtrace, but it was preceded by bootstrapentries, more
than probably the same entries as those in the attached Xorg.0.log. If I
run in the same issue, I'll copy the logfile. I haven't encountered the
issue anymore since filing this report - it happens pretty randomly.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 377875] Re: [945G/GZ] no direct rendering after upgrade to KMS/intel-2.7.1

2009-05-18 Thread Marcin Giedz
OK... I have switched entirely to 2.6.30-5 + xup and :
1) no direct rendering, KMS OK, plymouth - text only doesn't look good

So I changed to 2.6.30-5 + sarvatt:
1) KDM can't run ... resolution out of ranges on LCD

Third option: 2.6.28-11, + sarvatt
1) no KMS, direct rendering FINE

I have i915 modeset=1 in modules + UXA as AccelMethod in xorg.conf

Seems like will have to wait for next update ;)

2009-05-18 Thread hardke01
Applying the optimal configuration from the following post has fixed the
issues with the screen tearing when scrolling through the lotus notes
documents. The Intel driver is still the same version i was previously
using so the fix must have come in either the kernel updates or in the
fixmtrr.sh script.

http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=1130582

The only problem is that using the current Intel driver compiz
performance is dreadful.

since I upgraded to Jaunty, and switched to the geode driver, my screen has a
black margin on the left of the display (about 4cm wide).
I tried playing with the modelines, but nothing seems to change anything.
Note that when using the vesa driver, I don't have the black margin problem.
For your information, I'm using a 640x480 resolution on a 5 inches touch screen
panel.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 376722] Re: [i945] i945 don't recognize 1440x900 in ubuntu jaunty

2009-05-18 Thread Geir Ove Myhr
*** This bug is a duplicate of bug 288807 ***
https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/288807

I can't see any EDID information in the output of `xrandr --verbose` or
Xorg.0.log. What are the correct resolution of your internal laptop
monitor (1200x800?) Would it be possible for you to connect your
external monitor (1440x900) via DVI and get the Xorg.0.log for that?
Since this was working in an earlier version of ubuntu, do you have the
possibility to start from an Intrepid LiveCD and attach `xrandr
--verbose` output and Xorg.0.log (preferably with the ModeDebug option
set)? Are you using your two monitors in mirrored mode or as an extended
desktop?

Newer versions of xorg (or the driver) rely more heavily on the EDID
information provided by the monitor that before. This is a standard that
virtually all monitors have supported since around 2001. Unfortunately,
many Vaio laptop panels don't support this, and these are the only
monitors I know about that don't. Occationally, the EDID information in
some models are slightly wrong, but in those cases it is possible to
make xorg work around it. Without any EDID information, it is not
possible to figure out what is connected at all.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 295313] [NEW] w/ Xinerama enabled, Xlib displays RANDR warning dialog

2009-05-18 Thread Launchpad Bug Tracker
You have been subscribed to a public bug:

Every time I launch a GUI program from the terminal, I receive the
following error message:

Xlib: extension RANDR missing on display :0.0.

I use Xinerama to rotate one of two monitors in a dual-head setup.
(AFAIK this isn't possible using TwinView) Upon upgrading from Hardy to
Intrepid, I started getting these annoying (and useless) warnings.
Other than the warning, everything seems to be working correctly.

As I understand it, xrandr should be disabled when Xinerama is enabled, but
that doesn't seem to be happening. Using
   Option RandR off
in my xorg.conf has no effect. I've attached my xorg.conf attached for
reference.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 192508] Re: mouse keys turns on randomly

2009-05-18 Thread marius
Ok, this bug may still have a low priority but it's still annoying me and I
can't help reporting about it. Right now I'm experimenting something I couldn't
test before (because I didn't have the chance to physically access the machine
when it occurred):
I was logged remotely on the Ubuntu box (running at the moment
2.6.28-11-server #42-Ubuntu SMP Fri Apr 17 02:48:10 UTC 2009 i686 GNU/Linux,
with embedded vino remote desktop server) from a Windows machine (does this
matter?) via TightVNC client.
[The two pcs are now in the same room. I'm using vnc to get advantage of the
shared clipboard feature for some work I'm doing.]
Anyway, I was trying to input some numbers with the numpad, in the vnc window,
but with no luck. I tried the shortcut (always in the vnc window), even knowing
it never worked before and wouldn't now. I tried the same, and of course there
was no surprise. So I reached the server keyboard and pressed shift+numlock to
regain functionality. The strange behavior is that the numkeys are now
perfectly working locally... but still don't work via VNC... *in the exact same
moment* (of course I did not ended the active session). BUT if I keep the shift
key pressed while using the numpad from vnc, it works as intended, that is, the
arrow keys, home, del and so on. Also, there seem to be no way to make numpad
work via vnc again: I tried, in order, starting a new vnc session, closing the
old, starting a few new ones and closing them all (first included), disabling
and re-enabling remote desktop access and then just disabling and enabling
control... nothing. The last resource seems to be the reboot.

Is there any way (for me, since no one does) to debug the vnc server and
try to see where does it fail to catch/decode the numerical keys sent?
Any help is greatly appreciated...

And, this has already been asked but repetita iuvant, is there a way
to completely remove this feature from the face of the kernel? Or should
I just give in and move on, perhaps installing a vnc server different
from the officially suggested one hoping the problem is just related
to vino? Thanks again.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 378054] [NEW] Sometimes I can't click, some others can't write

2009-05-18 Thread Emanuele Bellini
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: xorg

After some time after launching the system, I can access only some
functionalities with my mouse; for example, now I can use Firefox but I can't
launch a new application from the menus.
So I try to use the keyboard; if I press Alt+F2 I have the Run... window, but I
can't write anything on it.
My mouse is a Logitech M-RN67.
I don't know if xorg server is the responsible, I start from here.

1)I'm using Ubuntu 9.04
2)Going to add it, I can't open the terminal!
3)I want to click everywhere!
4)I can click only in some parts of the screen.

Additional information:
I can't use the trackpad, so I have to use a mouse. I also had a problem with
Fedora and Windows, that is I couldn't left-click, but in both the OSs if I try
to right-click the left click works again. Anyway, in these others OSs I can
use the keyboard normally...

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 376030] Re: Changing desktop background eats up all available CPU time

2009-05-18 Thread Zurd
Same bug here, just installed Ubuntu 9.04 yesterday, I was using
wallpaper-tray from synaptic and as usual set it so that my wallpaper
change every minute and I found that every minute, in top, Xorg took up
to 97% of my CPU and was lagging the whole system for about 5 to 15
seconds. It do appear it is because of the fade in effect when changing
wallpaper because it worked great with Ubuntu 8.10 and there wasn't any
fade effect. I am using a GeForce FX 5600 with the proprietary drivers
and in visual effects in Appearance I selected None (so no compiz).

I tried using Option MigrationHeuristic greedy and Option
UseEvents on in section Device in xorg.conf but to no avail.

Here's the line from top that shows it :

I too have a Compal EL80 and Ricardo's fix worked so well for me.

Thanks Ricardo, this should be incorporated in mainstream if a machine
says it's a COMPAL EL80 (and it does and is quite linux friendly so it
deserves to be there in acpi-fixes list or however it is called in
Ubuntu;-))

Cheers

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 375804] Re: Display corruption in Firefox with GMA500 Poulsbo video chipset

2009-05-18 Thread Brandon
The problem was fixed by the latest update that was just released.

I am not sure what changed, but Firefox is rendering everything
correctly. apt-cache shows 0.30.0+repack-0netbook2 was upgraded from
0.27.0+repack-0netbook2

Let me know if you would still like the additional information. I am
happy to continue to help even though my problem has been resolved.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 378147] Re: [i855] freezes every few days since upgrade to jaunty

2009-05-18 Thread Geir Ove Myhr
** Summary changed:

- random freezes since upgrade to jaunty
+ [i855] freezes every few days since upgrade to jaunty

** Description changed:

  Binary package hint: xserver-xorg-video-intel

There seem to be many versions of this bug around, but I cannot decide
whether mine is identical to any of those.

My screen randomly freezes a few times a day with only the mouse moving.
The keyboard reacts to nothing. ssh-ing in is still possible. This has
been happening since I upgraded to jaunty a few weeks ago.

I cannot think of any similarities between the situations in which it
happens, except I think it always happened during mouse movement.

  I followed those instructions:
  https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat/+archive/x-freeze-test
I noticed that scim was in a zombie state when I ssh-ed to my system.

My graphics device is Intel 82852/855GM integrated.
