[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 374090] Re: Samsung NC20 installation problem(test pattern on screen)
It would be valuable to have the xorg.log from jaunty as well even though I realized that would be pretty hard to get. When you have USB booted into 9.04 jaunty and you see a distorted screen that looks a bit like Ubuntu running (not the usplash progress bar), is it then possible to press CTRL-ALT-F1 to get to a text based terminal? If so, maybe you can install the ssh package from there and scp the xorg.log to another computer? Also, I suspect jaunty tries to use the -openchrome driver on your machine so if you switch to vesa (the driver you used on 8.04) it might work better even though I'm not sure how to do that if the screen has graphics corruption. ** Tags removed: needs-lspci-vvnn ** Package changed: xorg (Ubuntu) = xserver-xorg-video-openchrome (Ubuntu) ** Changed in: xserver-xorg-video-openchrome (Ubuntu) Status: Incomplete = Confirmed -- Samsung NC20 installation problem(test pattern on screen) https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/374090 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to xserver-xorg-video-openchrome in ubuntu. ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp

@Facilys, can you attach the output of xrandr --verbose and also a copy of your /etc/X11/xorg.conf You can workaround this by launching gstreamer-properties and setting the video TAB to something other than XV. However, you are likely to see very very high CPU usage so it's not a long term solution. Another way to workaround it would be to use a smaller total resolution. You have stuff installed from multiple sources: xup sarvatt. It's normal that they won't work together. This happened to me while mixing PPA sources in Jaunty (the same two). I suggest you pick one of the sources, either xup or sarvatt and move all your packages (including the ones you listed above) to the same source using aptitude. You may notice they use different git sources version (~514 vs ~515). After you have migrated all your packages to one source you can use the new kernel which has improved performance. -- [945G/GZ] no direct rendering after upgrade to KMS/intel-2.7.1 https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/377875 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to xserver-xorg-video-intel in ubuntu. ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp

*** This bug is a duplicate of bug 288807 *** https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/288807 I can't see any EDID information in the output of `xrandr --verbose` or Xorg.0.log. What are the correct resolution of your internal laptop monitor (1200x800?) Would it be possible for you to connect your external monitor (1440x900) via DVI and get the Xorg.0.log for that? Since this was working in an earlier version of ubuntu, do you have the possibility to start from an Intrepid LiveCD and attach `xrandr --verbose` output and Xorg.0.log (preferably with the ModeDebug option set)? Are you using your two monitors in mirrored mode or as an extended desktop? Newer versions of xorg (or the driver) rely more heavily on the EDID information provided by the monitor that before. This is a standard that virtually all monitors have supported since around 2001. Unfortunately, many Vaio laptop panels don't support this, and these are the only monitors I know about that don't. Occationally, the EDID information in some models are slightly wrong, but in those cases it is possible to make xorg work around it. [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 295313] [NEW] w/ Xinerama enabled, Xlib displays RANDR warning dialog
You have been subscribed to a public bug: Every time I launch a GUI program from the terminal, I receive the following error message: Xlib: extension RANDR missing on display :0.0. I use Xinerama to rotate one of two monitors in a dual-head setup. (AFAIK this isn't possible using TwinView) Upon upgrading from Hardy to Intrepid, I started getting these annoying (and useless) warnings. Other than the warning, everything seems to be working correctly. As I understand it, xrandr should be disabled when Xinerama is enabled, but that doesn't seem to be happening. Using Option RandR off in my xorg.conf has no effect. I've attached my xorg.conf attached for reference. [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 192508] Re: mouse keys turns on randomly
Ok, this bug may still have a low priority but it's still annoying me and I can't help reporting about it. Right now I'm experimenting something I couldn't test before (because I didn't have the chance to physically access the machine when it occurred): I was logged remotely on the Ubuntu box (running at the moment 2.6.28-11-server #42-Ubuntu SMP Fri Apr 17 02:48:10 UTC 2009 i686 GNU/Linux, with embedded vino remote desktop server) from a Windows machine (does this matter?) via TightVNC client. [The two pcs are now in the same room. I'm using vnc to get advantage of the shared clipboard feature for some work I'm doing.] Anyway, I was trying to input some numbers with the numpad, in the vnc window, but with no luck. I tried the shortcut (always in the vnc window), even knowing it never worked before and wouldn't now. I tried the same, and of course there was no surprise. So I reached the server keyboard and pressed shift+numlock to regain functionality. The strange behavior is that the numkeys are now perfectly working locally... but still don't work via VNC... *in the exact same moment* (of course I did not ended the active session). BUT if I keep the shift key pressed while using the numpad from vnc, it works as intended, that is, the arrow keys, home, del and so on. Also, there seem to be no way to make numpad work via vnc again: I tried, in order, starting a new vnc session, closing the old, starting a few new ones and closing them all (first included), disabling and re-enabling remote desktop access and then just disabling and enabling control... nothing. The last resource seems to be the reboot. Is there any way (for me, since no one does) to debug the vnc server and try to see where does it fail to catch/decode the numerical keys sent? Any help is greatly appreciated... And, this has already been asked but repetita iuvant, is there a way to completely remove this feature from the face of the kernel? Or should I just give in and move on, perhaps installing a vnc server different from the officially suggested one hoping the problem is just related to vino? Thanks Ricardo, this should be incorporated in mainstream if a machine says it's a COMPAL EL80 (and it does and is quite linux friendly so it deserves to be there in acpi-fixes list or however it is called in Ubuntu;-)) Cheers -- [Jaunty] synaptics driver needs to be updated to work with devices known as ETPS/2 Elantech Touchpad and SynPS/2 Synaptics TouchPad starting with 2.6.28 series kernels https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/315882 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to xserver-xorg-input-synaptics in ubuntu. ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp

** Summary changed: - random freezes since upgrade to jaunty + [i855] freezes every few days since upgrade to jaunty ** Description changed: Binary package hint: xserver-xorg-video-intel There seem to be many versions of this bug around, but I cannot decide whether mine is identical to any of those. My screen randomly freezes a few times a day with only the mouse moving. The keyboard reacts to nothing. ssh-ing in is still possible. This has been happening since I upgraded to jaunty a few weeks ago. I cannot think of any similarities between the situations in which it happens, except I think it always happened during mouse movement.
