[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 347569] Re: [RS482] low performance due to removal of _tnl_ProgramCacheInit()

2009-06-10 Thread Andrew Starr-Bochicchio
I've been running the PPA package for about 24 hours now. I haven't
experienced any issues, no lock ups. I am getting much better frame
rates from glxgears, but honestly I'm not really _feeling_ any
noticeable performance improvements either.

$ glxinfo | grep OpenGL
OpenGL vendor string: DRI R300 Project
OpenGL renderer string: Mesa DRI R300 20060815 x86/MMX+/3DNow!+/SSE2 NO-TCL
OpenGL version string: 1.3 Mesa 7.4
OpenGL extensions:

$ glxgears
3633 frames in 5.0 seconds = 726.518 FPS
5347 frames in 5.0 seconds = 1069.324 FPS
5353 frames in 5.0 seconds = 1070.466 FPS
5296 frames in 5.0 seconds = 1059.027 FPS

Thanks all for your work!

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 347569] Re: [RS482] low performance due to removal of _tnl_ProgramCacheInit()

2009-06-10 Thread Jeremy Wilkins
Irom: Hmmm... It sounds to me like you are experiencing another issue
entirely. I'm afraid yours might not be resolved until the Radeon-Rewrite code
comes into action. What happens if you use the links above regarding
radeon-rewrite and the new radeon drivers? You will have to undo those changes
if you want other OpenGL apps to still run without freezing your system, but if
that solves your problem for glxgears and desktop effects then you may need to
wait for those drivers. Unless we can pull a patch from upstream. I think this
is the link:
https://launchpad.net/~xorg-edgers/+archive/radeon

If you try this mesa and follow the directions on the page for the
radeon drivers too, to see if that fixes it. Then undo the mesa install
and see if maybe just the drivers alone may fix the issue. Please
report your findings.

2009-06-10 Thread Piotr Morgwai Kotarbiński
it seems i damaged my driver, it can't load intel how its default one

Could you elaborate? It's hard to say anything with so few info: which
driver are you using, what happened and what did you expected? Some
snippets from logs would also be very helpful.

plus i couldn't import the digital signature to be able to use the drivers in
 my sources.lst

 any idea why?

You should ask a question related to soyuz using 'answers' tab at the
top of the page. Again you need to provide more information if you want
to see any answer.

What happens when I suspend is that the screen goes black, the HD is

Re: [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 314600] Re: fglrx versions newer than 8.543 cause system hang and panic

2009-06-10 Thread Liuk
Hi Dominik,
good to know, thank you.
Please can you provide the following info:
- Xorg version provided by OpenSUSE
- Kernel version provided by OpenSUSE
- Exact version of flgrx driver provided by OpenSUSE

I really cannot understand what is causing the kernel BUG with my
combination of ATI HD3650, Xorg 1.6.0, fglrx 8.612 (built from Catalyst
9.5), Kernel 2.6.28-12 (tryed also 2.6.27-11).

Cheers,
Luca

Under openSUSE 11.1 (64bit) it seems that with catalyst 9.5 the problem
is gone (I am using an ATI Mobility Radeon HD 3650). The X server starts
up just fine without using aticonfig --acpi-services=off. (This also
solves a problem with the HDMI output (hot-plug) recognition.)

I am sorry, that I cannot test this under Ubuntu at the moment. As the
problem seems to be rather distribution independent, this information
 might be valuable anyway.

Status in “fglrx-installer” source package in Ubuntu: Confirmed

 Bug description:
I am currently using Jaunty with the latest 2.6.28-4-generic #8-Ubuntu
x86-64 kernel, and any time I try to use fglrx 8.552 or 8.561 (apt-pinned to
Intrepid X server and libdrm2), I get the system hanging at a black screen
when I try to start X, followed by a kernel panic after I try pressing a few
keys. See attached logfile for a serial-console stacktrace.

Interestingly enough, fglrx reports itself as version 8.56.4, which seems a
bit mismatched from the package version number 8.561. In addition, using
the official ATI installer to buildandinstallpkg Ubuntu/intrepid within the
Intrepid LiveCD gives the same result.

I seem to be having a similar/same problem on my Toshiba Tecra A10
laptop, with an external display attached.

$ lspci | grep Display
00:02.1 Display controller: Intel Corporation Mobile 4 Series Chipset
Integrated Graphics Controller (rev 07)

Laptop resolution = 1280x800
External display = HP LP2465 at 1920x1200

I have the latest intel driver (2:2.6.3-0ubuntu5).

On Ubuntu 8.10 this setup runs fine (except the external display becomes
the primary).

On Ubuntu 9.04 I can only get the external display up to 1152x720
When I try to set it to 1920x1200, this is what happens on startup (from
Xorg.0.log):

(EE) intel(0): Failed to pin front buffer: Cannot allocate memory

Fatal server error:
Couldn't bind memory for BO front buffer

I tried the Option Legacy3D False fix, but that did not do the trick.

I'll attach the Xorg.0.log.

Oh, here is my xorg.conf (identical in 8.10 and 9.04):
# xorg.conf (X.Org X Window System server configuration file)

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 314600] Re: fglrx versions newer than 8.543 cause system hang and panic

2009-06-10 Thread Liuk
Great Dominik! A BIG thank you! I was getting crazy about this, you
avoided me a downgrade to 8.10 :-)

Turning acpi-services=off it seems to work!

Ctrl-Alt-F1 switch to VC works
Suspend and resume works
Compiz works
VMware Workstation 3D acceleration works

I've only a message like this from the kernel:
[fglrx:fireglAsyncioIntEnableMsgHandler] *ERROR* interrupt source ff66 is
not supported on this hardware (return code = 1)

but for the moment it seems harmless

And, not less important, now my laptop is back to a normal temperature!
Look at this:

l...@spock:~$ acpi -t
 Battery 0: Full, 100%
 Thermal 0: ok, 16.0 degrees C
 Thermal 1: ok, 38.0 degrees C
 Thermal 2: ok, 46.0 degrees C
 Thermal 3: ok, 34.3 degrees C
 Thermal 4: ok, 40.0 degrees C
 Thermal 5: ok, 30.0 degrees C

Please note that after the upgrade to Jaunty with the radeonhd driver,
the Thermal 2 values was always between 56 and 62 degrees!!! and my
battery duration dropped down from 3 hours to less than 2 hours!

Thanks again.
HTH to others with the same issue.
Cheers,
Luca

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 385551] [NEW] Jaunty -- Intel 82945G/GZ -- Screen full of vertical lines, cannot logon

2009-06-10 Thread ichudov
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: xserver-xorg-video-intel

This is my parents computer that they have 2000 miles away from me. THey
were on Hardy and everything worked. I upgraded them to Intrepid and
rebooted, then upgraded to Jaunty. After that, they report that their
screen is full of vertical lines and they cannot work.

This seems to be an Intel driver issue:

bunny:root:/var/log ###lsmod|grep i9
i915 65540 2
drm96296 3 i915

00:02.0 VGA compatible controller: Intel Corporation 82945G/GZ Integrated
Graphics Controller (rev 02)
00:02.1 Display controller: Intel Corporation 82945G/GZ Integrated Graphics
Controller (rev 02)

This is a high priority issue to me, as I am deeply embarrassed by such
poor performance on what seems to be a very mainstream PC (3 year old
Dell). So if you have any downgrade suggestion for the meantime, let me
know, I feel very badly about this.

I am now going to attach a few things.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 347569] Re: [RS482] low performance due to removal of _tnl_ProgramCacheInit()

2009-06-10 Thread Irom Nike
i'm not sure that i have understood everything correctly. sorry.

first of all i removed the Bryce Harrington's PPA from my sources.list.
then i added there the entries from
https://launchpad.net/~xorg-edgers/+archive/radeon

updated libgl1-mesa-dri, libgl1-mesa-glx, libglu1-mesa and mesa-utils.
restarting X and see no improvements.

$ glxgears
Running synchronized to the vertical refresh. The framerate should be
approximately the same as the monitor refresh rate.
1560 frames in 5.0 seconds
1589 frames in 5.0 seconds
1618 frames in 5.0 seconds
1518 frames in 5.0 seconds
1372 frames in 5.2 seconds

well it says about vsync again somewhy. i didn't even touch driconf or
.drirc. and as you can see glxgears do not calculate the FPS in its
output.

after this i downloaded and installed xserver-xorg-video-
radeon_6.12.99+git20090604.32c218c5-0ubuntu0tormod_i386.deb from
https://launchpad.net/~tormodvolden/+archive/ppa

and got the same results with glxgears..

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 385551] Re: Jaunty -- Intel 82945G/GZ -- Screen full of vertical lines, cannot logon

2009-06-10 Thread ichudov
It looks like X cannot properly detect this monitor. If you look at
Xorg.0.log you will see nothing pertaining to detected modelines, etc.
Whereas on my home desktop PC, it works great and shows all the
modelines.

ddcprobe reports resolutions, however per Xorg.0.log X uses a
nonexistent 1152x864 resolution. I think that this is the issue.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 385551] Re: Jaunty -- Intel 82945G/GZ -- Screen full of vertical lines, cannot logon

2009-06-10 Thread ichudov
I think that I have a complete understanding of this bug. Yes, it was
about not detecting the NEC MultiSync 1500M monitor.

The following xorg.conf is a workaround (but is NOT a bug fix):

# xorg.conf (X.Org X Window System server configuration file)
#
# This file was generated by dexconf, the Debian X Configuration tool, using
# values from the debconf database.
#
# Edit this file with caution, and see the xorg.conf manual page.
# (Type man xorg.conf at the shell prompt.)
#
# This file is automatically updated on xserver-xorg package upgrades *only*
# if it has not been modified since the last upgrade of the xserver-xorg
# package.
#
# Note that some configuration settings that could be done previously
# in this file, now are automatically configured by the server and settings
# here are ignored.
#
# If you have edited this file but would like it to be automatically updated
# again, run the following command:
# sudo dpkg-reconfigure -phigh xserver-xorg

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 374458] Re: Random Logitech Wireless Mouse Freeze (Kubuntu 9.04)

2009-06-10 Thread Frostybeard
I also have this same problem. The mouse and keyboard freeze up after a
few minutes of use. The only think I can do is shut it off the nasty
way, since I cannot restart the X server or reboot using the keyboard.

Right now I am going to try to set up an sshd on it so I can log in
remotely and try to snoop around and see what is going on.

I am running Kubuntu 9.04 on two other (32 bit) machines with no
problems. The problem machine is 64 bit. It worked fine with the
previous version of Kubuntu. The problems started immediately upon
upgrading to 9.04.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 331918] Re: Clipped area for multiple X screens with different dimensions

2009-06-10 Thread bryonak
Confirming this bug on Jaunty 64bit with a default Compiz setup.
My main display is 1024x768, the secondary is 1280x720 and was restricted to
the dimension of the first.

My fix is similar to what TJ has done:
gconf-editor: apps - compiz - general - screen1 - options
create a boolean called detect_outputs and set to TRUE
create a list called outputs and make this entry: 1280x720+0+0

Restart X, both screens work as they should.

This regression could probably be fixed by having Compiz set the
detect_outputs and outputs vars.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 382719] Re: [Q35]: cannot switch to virtual terminals (KMS bug)

From the upstream bug, it sounds like this may be a kernel module
integration issue rather than a driver problem:

Indeed, if I specify video=fbcon or video=intelfb at boottime, the
problems disappear.

So I'm retargeting this bug to the kernel.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 6270] Re: [i855] no support for TV-Out on 8xx chipsets

2009-06-10 Thread Bryce Harrington
** Description changed:

+ The -intel driver does not support TV out through DVO, which is used by
+ many 8xx-based laptops, and at this time upstream has no plans for
+ implementing support.
+
+ The specifications for the chips (chrontel) have been published, so it
+ is feasible for someone outside Intel to implement support by writing an
+ appropriate DVO driver. There are several LVDS and TMDS DVO drivers
+ already included in the -intel tree that could be used as examples.
+
+
+ [Original Bug Report]
I use an Intel Centrino chipset on a Dell Inspiron 510m. My hardware ID is:
  ab4d55311e734d27f3679e60a3ba8604

I apologise if I got the source package incorrect.

What I was attempting to achieve was to output a video of the Guadec
conference, which was playing on my screen, to the Television via my
S-Video connector. I plugged everything in and pushed the function key
with CRT/LCD. The screen had a white flicker in it whenever I pushed
the button but, aside from that, nothing happened.

What I expected to happen was for the TV to mirror what was on my
  screen.

My resolution was set to 1400x1050 but the same occurs when this is
reduced to 1280x1024 (the lowest in the list).

  Thanks

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 385703] [NEW] nv, autodetection fails because of missing PCI-IDs, in nv.ids, for a large number of supported cards in Jaunty

2009-06-10 Thread Bojan Vitnik
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: xserver-xorg-video-nv

In my case, /usr/share/xserver-xorg/pci/nv.ids was missing PCI-ID for
my 7600 GS AGP (10de:02e1). X server autodetection failed and -vesa was
used instead. By manualy adding appropriate PCI-ID to nv.ids and
restarting X server, autodetection worked like a charm and I didn't have
any problems with nv driver - changing resolution and refresh rate
worked.

I took some time to figure out what was realy going on here. It seems
that a large number of supported cards are affected by this bug. The
problem is the way nv.ids is generated. As far as I could tell, it's
generated from nv_driver.c (NVKnownChipsets[] to be exact) by a simple
awk+sed script. The problem is that not all PCI-IDs of supported cards
are listed there and therefore, nv.ids is missing PCI-IDs that are not
explicitely found in nv_driver.c. Some supported cards, for example,
AGP versions of the cards where both AGP and PCI-E versions exist, are
handled diferently by the code.

Here is the code snippet from nv_driver.c:

const CARD32 id = ((dev-device_id  0xfff0) == 0x00F0 ||
   (dev-device_id  0xfff0) == 0x02E0) ?
  NVGetPCIXpressChip(dev) : dev-vendor_id 16 |
dev-device_id;
const char *name = xf86TokenToString(NVKnownChipsets, id);

So, cards with PCI-IDs 02Ex and 00Fx (AGP) are handled by translating
their PCI-IDs in PCI-E equivalent PCI-IDs and then looked up in
NVKnownChipsets[]. For example, PCI-IDs of my card, 02E1 is translated
to 0392, looked up in NVKnownChipsets[] and then handled properly.
NVGetPCIXpressChip() is used in the process and, as far as I could tell,
it's medling with registers to do its job. Even more supported cards are
handled by NVIsSupported() and NVIsG80() using bitmasks.

All in all, nv.ids is incomplete because of the way it's generated at
the moment.

Solutions:

1) Add supported PCI-IDs, 02Ex and 00Fx, to nv.ids manualy, after nv.ids is
generated with awk+sed script. Consult pci.ids if needed.
2) Add supported PCI-IDs in NVKnownChipsets[] and then generate nv.ids. Those
entries in NVKnownChipsets[] would never be used by the code so the question is
should they even be there.
3) Change how X server handle .ids files upstream, by adding support for
whildcards/bitmasks. nv.ids would be generated differently. (ideal)

Yes, same here. There was an update to xorg-intel stuff yesterday - I'm
reasonably sure that's the cause. Prior to that, no problems. After
that, freezes (though perfect performance until such a freeze). FWIW,
I'm using 2.6.30-020630rc8-generic.

Hello.

I have encountered the same problem after an upgrade from intrepid to
jaunty. The solution is quite simple if vino causes the high cpu usage.

Delete vino-server.desktop from /etc/xdg/autostart and
reconfigure/restart vino-server.

That shoudl fix the problem.

Yeah, Mike, I got freezes under that and the previous -intel build.

I just got the freshly-compiled 2.6.30 final from the kernel-ppa
that's not actually a PPA, and I still get freezes. Rapid-fire ones,
shockingly. Just like stock Jaunty.

Reini, are you sure? I use the main US servers and still have whatever
version uses the VirtualSize fix (I can't recall the version number off
the top of my head, I'm in the hated OS right now)

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 384730] Re: [i945GM] screen goes black about once per day after upgrading to latest intel drivers

2009-06-10 Thread Geir Ove Myhr
** Summary changed:

- screen goes black about once per day after upgrading to latest intel drivers
+ [i945GM] screen goes black about once per day after upgrading to latest intel
drivers

** Description changed:

  Binary package hint: xserver-xorg-video-intel

I was advised to upgrade to version 2.7.1 of the intel drivers from
x-updates in order to get dual-screen to work (see
  https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/xserver-xorg-video-
intel/+bug/379805). Since then, about once per day, the screen just goes
completely black. Control+Alt+F1 gets me a command line but nothing
makes X work again except for rebooting. What appears in syslog when
  this happens is;

The files automatically attached by ubuntu-bug are *after* a reboot.
Manually attached are copies of some of the files taken before the
  reboot.

There are quite a few hits when I google for the last entry in syslog.

This sounds a little like 305227 but that goes pack to 8.10 and this is
  extremely recent.

This problem did not happen with vanilla jaunty - only after after
installing 2.7.1. Of course various other package updates were installed
while trying to solve the problems with 379805 and it could be one of
them. I apologise if this is not the correct package to report this bug
  against.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 384730] Re: [i945GM] screen goes black about once per day after upgrading to latest intel drivers

2009-06-10 Thread Geir Ove Myhr
I'm not sure what is going on here. It doesn't look like a typical GPU
freeze, since the keyboard is still working. If X would crash, it would
leave a backtrace (short version) at the end of Xorg.0.log.

The last line in your Xorg.0.log (during black screen)
(WW) intel(0): drmDropMaster failed: Unknown error 4294967295
is actually a totally innocent warning message that should happen whenever you
use a new intel driver, an old enough kernel (pre 2.6.29, Jaunty has 2.6.28)
and switch to a virtual terminal. The interesting thing is that it appears in
the log after the screen went black, indicating that X is still somewhat alive
when you hit Ctrl+Alt+F1. Maybe we can use this error message to our advantage.
Could you:
1. Before the black screen occurs, verify that this error message shows up in
Xorg.0.log every time you switch to a VT whenever you switch to a VT (and that
you get multiple lines when you switch back and forth with Ctrl+Alt+F1 and
Ctrl+Alt+F7).
2. Given that the above works, could you switch VTs when the screen goes black
and check if it still keeps adding this line when you switch back and forth?

Otherwise, to try and narrow down where the problem is, there is a list
at
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/X/Troubleshooting/Freeze#Narrow%20Subsystem%20it%20Occurs%20in
of things that you may try to turn off to find which subsystem it is in
(exept AccelMethod, since I guess then you're back to bug 379805). I
realize that it may take some time to test, since the bug doesn't
trigger very often.

It would also be interesting to know if the Virtual setting has anything
to say for this bug.

Yes, I'm surprisingly sure, considering I had to manually allow

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 377115] Re: [i945] [Intrepid, i945G] Xserver crashes while surfing with Firefox/Opera (segfault in libdri.so)

2009-06-10 Thread Geir Ove Myhr
Thank you for taking the time to report this bug. We Intrepid is still
supported and receives security updates, we don't concentrate on fixing
bugs for it anymore. Actually, the main focus is now on fixing bugs in
the upcoming Karmic release. Therefore, it would be nice if you could
check if this bug is still present in Karmic. While installing Karmic
may take some dedication, since it is still a development version, it
should be pretty straightforward to test a Karmic LiveCD/LiveUSB image.
Karmic alpha-2 should be out tomorrow, and may be found at
http://cdimage.ubuntu.com/releases/9.10/ . A recent daily-live image
will also do: http://cdimage.ubuntu.com/daily-live/ .

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 377172] Re: gnome-display-properties silently broke all my hardware acceleration and movie watching

2009-06-10 Thread Geir Ove Myhr
Changed the package to screen-resolution-extra which is responsible for
setting the virtual resolution for dual-head setup. What you are really
suggesting is that instead of only computing the virtual resolution
needed, it should also have a table of the capabilities for the
different video cards and warn the user before setting the virtual
resolution to something the video card/driver cannot handle. Right?

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 377191] Re: irregular screen blanking (every few seconds)

2009-06-10 Thread Geir Ove Myhr
Could you run the following loop which outputs the number of lines in
/var/log/Xorg.0.log every second and see if it increases when the screen
blanks: `while true; do wc -l /var/log/Xorg.0.log; sleep 1; done`. If it
does, it is a sign that some Xrandr call is to blame. You may also check
if running `xrandr -q` makes the monitor blink. You may also want to try
the updated stable drivers for Jaunty at
https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat/+archive/x-updates/ .

I actually have a similar problem sometimes, but I think that is some
bad cable connection.

Also, we would like the output of `lscpi -vvnn` attached to this bug
report.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 326487] Re: [jaunty] fonts corrupts after a while

2009-06-10 Thread Geir Ove Myhr
It seems that this happens over a range of video cards (Radeon, i855,
i830 from what I've seen here). That probably means it is not a driver
issue. Would anyone care to test with Karmic, to see if it is fixed
there? (daily live available from http://cdimage.ubuntu.com/daily-live/
, alpha-2 should soon be at http://cdimage.ubuntu.com/releases/9.10/ ).

If it is still a problem, it would be nice if somebody could compile a
list of affected video cards.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 378106] Re: [i945gm] panda3d segmentation fault (intel driver)

2009-06-10 Thread Geir Ove Myhr
It seems the apport backtrace didn't work very well in this case. There
is almost no useful information at bug 384203. Are you MojoX in that
forum thread? There is a useful backtrace there, but it could have more
information. First of all, there are some debug symbols missing (?? in
the backtrace). They would probably show up if the right -dbg packages
were installed. Look at
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/X/Backtracing#Debug%20symbol%20information for
packages that may have the necessary debug symbols. Also a full
backtrace is better: Instead of `bt` in gdb, write `bt full`.

You may also wish to check if this has been fixed in karmic, by using a
daily Live-CD from http://cdimage.ubuntu.com/daily-live/ or alpha-2
which will soon be available at http://cdimage.ubuntu.com/releases/9.10/
.

  EndSection

This combined with the latest xserver-xorg-video-intel causes both
displays to activate but no applications are shown on either of the
displays. For example, in gdm login the mouse cursor is shown on both
screens yet both screens remain otherwise black. (the gdm login screen
  is not displayed).

I'm assuming that this isn't caused by gdm since if i enter my username
and password to the blank screen, i can hear the login sound playing.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 368946] Re: Closing and opening lid sometimes leads to screen ENDLESSLY BLINKING

2009-06-10 Thread Geir Ove Myhr
For xorg-related bugs we need the following in order to get anywhere:
- /var/log/Xorg.0.log (the one with the messages you mentioned in the bug
description)
- the output of `lspci -vvnn`
- /etc/X11/xorg.conf (unless unchanged)
Could you please attach those files to this bug report?
