[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 347569] Re: [RS482] low performance due to removal of _tnl_ProgramCacheInit()
I've been running the PPA package for about 24 hours now. I haven't experienced any issues, no lock ups. I am getting much better frame rates from glxgears, but honestly I'm not really _feeling_ any noticeable performance improvements either. $ glxinfo | grep OpenGL OpenGL vendor string: DRI R300 Project OpenGL renderer string: Mesa DRI R300 20060815 x86/MMX+/3DNow!+/SSE2 NO-TCL OpenGL version string: 1.3 Mesa 7.4 OpenGL extensions: $ glxgears 3633 frames in 5.0 seconds = 726.518 FPS 5347 frames in 5.0 seconds = 1069.324 FPS 5353 frames in 5.0 seconds = 1070.466 FPS 5296 frames in 5.0 seconds = 1059.027 FPS Thanks all for your work! -- [RS482] low performance due to removal of _tnl_ProgramCacheInit() https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/347569 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to mesa in ubuntu. ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp
[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 347569] Re: [RS482] low performance due to removal of _tnl_ProgramCacheInit()
Irom: Hmmm... It sounds to me like you are experiencing another issue entirely. I'm afraid yours might not be resolved until the Radeon-Rewrite code comes into action. What happens if you use the links above regarding radeon-rewrite and the new radeon drivers? You will have to undo those changes if you want other OpenGL apps to still run without freezing your system, but if that solves your problem for glxgears and desktop effects then you may need to wait for those drivers. Unless we can pull a patch from upstream. I think this is the link: https://launchpad.net/~xorg-edgers/+archive/radeon If you try this mesa and follow the directions on the page for the radeon drivers too, to see if that fixes it. Then undo the mesa install and see if maybe just the drivers alone may fix the issue. Please report your findings.

Re: [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 314600] Re: fglrx versions newer than 8.543 cause system hang and panic
Hi Dominik, good to know, thank you. Please can you provide the following info: - Xorg version provided by OpenSUSE - Kernel version provided by OpenSUSE - Exact version of flgrx driver provided by OpenSUSE I really cannot understand what is causing the kernel BUG with my combination of ATI HD3650, Xorg 1.6.0, fglrx 8.612 (built from Catalyst 9.5), Kernel 2.6.28-12 (tryed also 2.6.27-11). Cheers, Luca On Wed, Jun 10, 2009 at 11:41 AM, Dominik Grafenhofer shopp...@grafenhofer.at wrote: Under openSUSE 11.1 (64bit) it seems that with catalyst 9.5 the problem is gone (I am using an ATI Mobility Radeon HD 3650). The X server starts up just fine without using aticonfig --acpi-services=off. (This also solves a problem with the HDMI output (hot-plug) recognition.) I am sorry, that I cannot test this under Ubuntu at the moment. As the problem seems to be rather distribution independent, this information might be valuable anyway. -- fglrx versions newer than 8.543 cause system hang and panic https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/314600 You received this bug notification because you are a direct subscriber of the bug. See attached logfile for a serial-console stacktrace. Interestingly enough, fglrx reports itself as version 8.56.4, which seems a bit mismatched from the package version number 8.561. In addition, using the official ATI installer to buildandinstallpkg Ubuntu/intrepid within the Intrepid LiveCD gives the same result. Confirming this bug on Jaunty 64bit with a default Compiz setup. My main display is 1024x768, the secondary is 1280x720 and was restricted to the dimension of the first. My fix is similar to what TJ has done: gconf-editor: apps - compiz - general - screen1 - options create a boolean called detect_outputs and set to TRUE create a list called outputs and make this entry: 1280x720+0+0 Restart X, both screens work as they should. I plugged everything in and pushed the function key with CRT/LCD. The screen had a white flicker in it whenever I pushed the button but, aside from that, nothing happened. [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 385703] [NEW] nv, autodetection fails because of missing PCI-IDs, in nv.ids, for a large number of supported cards in Jaunty
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: xserver-xorg-video-nv In my case, /usr/share/xserver-xorg/pci/nv.ids was missing PCI-ID for my 7600 GS AGP (10de:02e1). X server autodetection failed and -vesa was used instead. By manualy adding appropriate PCI-ID to nv.ids and restarting X server, autodetection worked like a charm and I didn't have any problems with nv driver - changing resolution and refresh rate worked. I took some time to figure out what was realy going on here. It seems that a large number of supported cards are affected by this bug. The problem is the way nv.ids is generated. As far as I could tell, it's generated from nv_driver.c (NVKnownChipsets[] to be exact) by a simple awk+sed script. The problem is that not all PCI-IDs of supported cards are listed there and therefore, nv.ids is missing PCI-IDs that are not explicitely found in nv_driver.c. Some supported cards, for example, AGP versions of the cards where both AGP and PCI-E versions exist, are handled diferently by the code. Here is the code snippet from nv_driver.c: const CARD32 id = ((dev-device_id 0xfff0) == 0x00F0 || (dev-device_id 0xfff0) == 0x02E0) ? NVGetPCIXpressChip(dev) : dev-vendor_id 16 | dev-device_id; const char *name = xf86TokenToString(NVKnownChipsets, id); So, cards with PCI-IDs 02Ex and 00Fx (AGP) are handled by translating their PCI-IDs in PCI-E equivalent PCI-IDs and then looked up in NVKnownChipsets[]. For example, PCI-IDs of my card, 02E1 is translated to 0392, looked up in NVKnownChipsets[] and then handled properly. NVGetPCIXpressChip() is used in the process and, as far as I could tell, it's medling with registers to do its job. Even more supported cards are handled by NVIsSupported() and NVIsG80() using bitmasks. All in all, nv.ids is incomplete because of the way it's generated at the moment. Solutions: 1) Add supported PCI-IDs, 02Ex and 00Fx, to nv.ids manualy, after nv.ids is generated with awk+sed script. Consult pci.ids if needed. 2) Add supported PCI-IDs in NVKnownChipsets[] and then generate nv.ids. Those entries in NVKnownChipsets[] would never be used by the code so the question is should they even be there. 3) Change how X server handle .ids files upstream, by adding support for whildcards/bitmasks. nv.ids would be generated differently. [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 384730] Re: [i945GM] screen goes black about once per day after upgrading to latest intel drivers
I'm not sure what is going on here. It doesn't look like a typical GPU freeze, since the keyboard is still working. If X would crash, it would leave a backtrace (short version) at the end of Xorg.0.log. The last line in your Xorg.0.log (during black screen) (WW) intel(0): drmDropMaster failed: Unknown error 4294967295 is actually a totally innocent warning message that should happen whenever you use a new intel driver, an old enough kernel (pre 2.6.29, Jaunty has 2.6.28) and switch to a virtual terminal. The interesting thing is that it appears in the log after the screen went black, indicating that X is still somewhat alive when you hit Ctrl+Alt+F1. Maybe we can use this error message to our advantage. Could you: 1. Before the black screen occurs, verify that this error message shows up in Xorg.0.log every time you switch to a VT whenever you switch to a VT (and that you get multiple lines when you switch back and forth with Ctrl+Alt+F1 and Ctrl+Alt+F7). 2. Given that the above works, could you switch VTs when the screen goes black and check if it still keeps adding this line when you switch back and forth? Otherwise, to try and narrow down where the problem is, there is a list at https://wiki.ubuntu.com/X/Troubleshooting/Freeze#Narrow%20Subsystem%20it%20Occurs%20in of things that you may try to turn off to find which subsystem it is in (exept AccelMethod, since I guess then you're back to bug 379805). I realize that it may take some time to test, since the bug doesn't trigger very often. It would also be interesting to know if the Virtual setting has anything to say for this bug. -- [i945GM] screen goes black about once per day after upgrading to latest intel drivers https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/384730 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to xserver-xorg-video-intel in ubuntu. ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 378106] Re: [i945gm] panda3d segmentation fault (intel driver)
It seems the apport backtrace didn't work very well in this case. There is almost no useful information at bug 384203. Are you MojoX in that forum thread? There is a useful backtrace there, but it could have more information. First of all, there are some debug symbols missing (?? in the backtrace). They would probably show up if the right -dbg packages were installed. Look at https://wiki.ubuntu.com/X/Backtracing#Debug%20symbol%20information for packages that may have the necessary debug symbols. Also a full backtrace is better: Instead of `bt` in gdb, write `bt full`. You may also wish to check if this has been fixed in karmic, by using a daily Live-CD from http://cdimage.ubuntu.com/daily-live/ or alpha-2 which will soon be available at http://cdimage.ubuntu.com/releases/9.10/ . -- [i945gm] panda3d segmentation fault (intel driver) https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/378106 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to xserver-xorg-video-intel in ubuntu. ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp

** Summary changed: - Firefox scrolls slow in Gmail when chat or tasks window is open + [i965gm] Firefox scrolls slow in Gmail when chat or tasks window is open ** Description changed: Binary package hint: xserver-xorg-video-intel I figured out why Firefox scrolls so slowly in Gmail. [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 383486] Re: [i915gm]all displays fail to output applications when virtual is set
Does this still occur if you have the external monitor disconnected (but the Virtual set as above)? With the external monitor disconnected, does it still happen if you reduce the first number to 2049? And to 2048? ** Summary changed: - all displays fail to output applications when virtual is set + [i915gm]all displays fail to output applications when virtual is set ** Description changed: Binary package hint: xserver-xorg-video-intel Display Preferences application writes the following to xorg.conf when mirror display is disabled: Section Screen Identifier Default Screen Monitor Configured Monitor Device Configured Video Device SubSection Display Virtual 2680 1050 EndSubSection EndSection This combined with the latest xserver-xorg-video-intel causes both displays to activate but no applications are shown on either of the displays. For example, in gdm login the mouse cursor is shown on both screens yet both screens remain otherwise black. (the gdm login screen is not displayed). I'm assuming that this isn't caused by gdm since if i enter my username and password to the blank screen, i can hear the login sound playing. [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 368946] Re: Closing and opening lid sometimes leads to screen ENDLESSLY BLINKING
For xorg-related bugs we need the following in order to get anywhere: - /var/log/Xorg.0.log (the one with the messages you mentioned in the bug description) - the output of `lspci -vvnn` - /etc/X11/xorg.conf (unless unchanged) Could you please attach those files to this bug report? ** Changed in: xserver-xorg-video-intel (Ubuntu) Status: New = Incomplete -- Closing and opening lid sometimes leads to screen ENDLESSLY BLINKING https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/368946 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to xserver-xorg-video-intel in ubuntu. ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp
