2009-06-15 Thread D. Brodzik
Here's the xorg.conf file that was used with this log. My video card
does not have enough RAM to allow me to use 24-bit mode.

I get the same error with the default config file or the one that I got
in Hardy.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 345076] Re: Kubuntu 9.04 alpha6 panel corruption

2009-06-15 Thread dotancohen
  You are not a developer

I don't know where you get your information from, but your
source doesn't seem to be reliable in any way.

If you are a dev then I take my harsh statements back. It looked to me
like you were getting on Thomas's case. If it's in-fighting between
equals then I won't get involved, go at it!

According your comment #35 the bug was fixed for you.

On my personal machine. But I've got a bunch of other users who have
various related corruption issues and I'd like to see it resolved. I'm
not even installing 9.04 on any more machines, and 8.10 couldn't be
installed either. Kubuntu 8.04 was not LTS so I won't install that soon-
to-be-outdated version, I have nothing to install.

2009-06-15 Thread dotancohen
If you actually want to get this bug fixed, then get someone to
figure out why the QPainter could become not active.

I requested on the KDE list that someone come over and take a look.

If you want to do something on your own, deinstall KDE4 python
bindings and check whether this fixes the corruptions or not

I can't at the moment, but lets see what the KDE folk say.

rebooted after the upgrade, I ended with Xorg in bulletproof mode (cf. the

Status in “xorg” source package in Ubuntu: New

 Bug description:
 Binary package hint: compiz

Similar to bug white screen on second screen, but this is a white screen on
 first screen (screen 0).

If I activate compiz (through fusion icon or through desktop effects) the
 screen goes white.
The computer runs and  there is no crash or dump.

activating the 'cube' desktop switcher works, but it behaves very slowly and
all visible desktops are white. sky background image is shown correctly.

 Work around:
 I press ctrl-alt-f2
 login to terminal
issue command 'ps aux | grep compiz'  and get the pid for process compiz-real
isue command 'kill PID' where PID is determined in step above.

press Ctrl-alt-f7 to return to x-windows

This problem happens on several kernels I have installed:
 2.6.30-020630-generic
 2.6.28-12-generic
 2.6.28-11-generic
 kernel 2.6.28-6-386

This is similar to a bug reported by ati graphics card users in older
 versions of Ubuntu.
So it is probably related to compiz more than any single kernel, ubuntu
 release, or graphics card.

It might also be a conflict with other installed software. (i will update
ticket If I find an issue)

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 367377] Re: High load average, disk read, no apparent reason - 2.6.28-11

2009-06-15 Thread Bob Manners
Hi there - just a quick update.

I have been running with 2.6.30 for a couple of days now, with a
relatively light workload under KDE4. My overall impression is that
this problem has either been fixed or that the leak which is probably
the root cause of this is at least much slower now!

After nearly two days:
  07:31:35 up 1 day, 18:36, 1 user, load average: 0.35, 0.62, 0.61

Swap usage is just 74MB:

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 385832] Re: [i965gm] lower reslutions no longer available on LVDS with 2.7.99 (KMS)

2009-06-15 Thread Geir Ove Myhr
Thank you for the extra information. It seems that KMS changes a few
things and it's hard for me to say what are bugs and not. For example,
with KMS the EDID information is no longer visible in the output of
`xrandr --verbose` (but it is in Xorg.0.log) and the ModeDebug option
does not produce as verbose a Xorg.0.log as without KMS. I guess it will
take some time for triagers to get used to what is erratic behavior of
KMS in the logs and what is normal.

I leave this as ready for upstreaming for now.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 383345] Re: [i945GM] dual screen not working with virtual resolution enabled: just a blank screen with a mouse pointer

2009-06-15 Thread jayprakash
Hi,
Confirming this bug.

Running on
https://launchpad.net/~xorg-edgers/+archive/ppa
(newest xorg, intel driver and kernel)
(so only UXA and DRI2)

I have some xrandr configurations bind to keyboard shortcuts, so it's
easy for me to test without restarts.

Without compiz, everything works (curently running 2048x768 dual). Even
resolutions greater than 2048x2048.

With compiz:
1. xrandr --output LVDS --mode 1024x768 --primary --output VGA --mode
1024x768 --right-of LVDS
Black or corrupt screen (but mouse shows it is in correct resolutions next to
each other).

2. xrandr --output LVDS --mode 800x600 --primary --output VGA --mode 1024x768
--right-of LVDS
WORKS
3. xrandr --output LVDS --mode 1024x768 --primary --output VGA --mode 800x600
--right-of LVDS
WORKS
4. xrandr --output LVDS --mode 1024x768 --primary --output VGA --mode
1024x768 --same-as LVDS
WORKS
5. xrandr --output LVDS --mode 1024x768 --primary --output VGA --mode
1360x768 --above LVDS
WORKS - today morning worked :)

For compiz settings loose bindings or indirect rendering in any
configuration have no effect.

Tested xserver-xorg-video-intel -
2:2.7.99.1+git20090528.704771f1-0ubuntu0morgwai1~jaunty1
No change.

Tested kernels 2.6.30-9 and 2.6.30-8 with no difference.

X log shows nothing interesting.

If you need anything to test, I'm availiable.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 345076] Re: Kubuntu 9.04 alpha6 panel corruption

2009-06-15 Thread Jonathan Thomas
*** This bug is a duplicate of bug 343944 ***
https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/343944

Well, he's not a Kubuntu developer, that's for sure. No Kubuntu
developer in their right mind would blame python-kde4, a source package
that hasn't been used for two releases for corruption issues. The
default desktop doesn't even really use it. All it is are python
bindings to the KDE api, and since I have to explain that its pretty
clear that RK is not a developer. He probably is just trying to jerk my
chain. If you ever actually contribute anything more than a few bug
reports here and there I may start to respect your judgment, but as it
stands it is pretty clear that you do not know what you are doing.

But, being the nice guy that I am, I did do some more research on the
bug. (I am also a KDE developer) Previously, the consensus between KDE
developers was that this was a graphics driver bug. (For example,
https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=189059 ,
https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=187991)

In reality this is a somewhat complex issue, with many factors
determining whether or not the user will actually see the issue. It
should be noted that two issues have been reported in this bug report
initially. 1) The disappearing of the Plasma elements and b) the actual
corruption in the panel. The panel corruption likely is a driver bug,
and the disappearance issue is the complex one.

Anyways, on to the issue. As it turns out, graphical Plasma elements
start to disappear when the video card runs out of pixmap space.
Normally this doesn't happen, unless something is leaking pixmaps and is
not destroying them after they are done being used. This explains why
people using different video cards see this, and why not all people
using the same video card see this. it could even be said that one
person using the same driver as another but having a card with less VRAM
could see this more often than the one who had a card with more VRAM (if
he saw it at all)

Recently such a leak was found in Qt that fits the ticket. (Documented
here: http://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=183191) There was a leak in
the digital clock applet that exasperated the issue further, although it
was not the core cause of the bug. (And definitely even the KDE
component of this bug was not a kde4libs issue.)

In conclusion:

- This is not, I repeat *not*, and never ever was at all a kde4libs bug as you
so adamantly proclaimed.
- Not a pykde issue, though this goes without saying
- Not an issue with the python-kde4 package which has been unused since Hardy
- This is a Qt issue which is scheduled to be fixed in Qt 4.5.2
- The KDE portion of this (which affected kdebase-workspace, but was not the
main bug) has already been fixed in KDE 4.3 beta2.
- It was understandable to have thought that this was a driver issue, as that
had been the previous consensus
- RK's little shenanigans would have not really changed anything, and the issue
would have gone away once everybody upgraded anyway. All you did was cause me
unnecessary stress in an attempt to piss me off.

You are quite lucky that I even took time to research this answer and
give you this information, though I suppose I did it for those who care
more about the bug than for those who care more about pissing me off.

Anyway, this is a duplicate of bug 343944, and you better not screw that
one up.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 383345] Re: [i945GM] dual screen not working with virtual resolution enabled: just a blank screen with a mouse pointer

2009-06-15 Thread jayprakash
xserver-xorg-video-intel - 2:2.7.1-0ubuntu1~xup~1
from
https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat/+archive/x-updates

xrandr --output LVDS --mode 1024x768 --primary --output VGA --mode 1024x768
--right-of LVDS
WORKS with compiz enabled

with loose bindings, problem with window textures not updating (for
example, scrolling in firefox is not visible until compiz restarted or
turned off). But this setting is primary for nvidia.

virtual entry beyond 2048x2048 in xorg.conf results in white screen with
compiz enabled, regardless of resolution (even in clone setup) (without
compiz works everything)

2009-06-15 Thread Hares Latif
Solved:
I did a
dpkg-divert --list *libGL*

there it showed, that there were diversions between two previously
installed libGL versions:

diversion of /usr/lib/libGL.so.1.2 to
/usr/lib/nvidia/libGL.so.1.2.xlibmesa by nvidia-glx-180

then I did:
ls -la /usr/lib/libGL.so.1.2

and finally removed the lines in /var/lib/dpkg/diversions

works perfectly now !

thanks!

Hares

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 386445] Re: Please merge xkeyboard-config 1.6-1 (main) from Debian unstable

2009-06-15 Thread Bryce Harrington
Looks good, upload sponsored. Thanks michael!

fi_brokenbar - agreed it's not important enough to maintain as a
divergence from upstream.

Thanks for forwarding the patch about the documentation. Really, it
should be fixed by improving the procedure for customizing things, but
really that's best done by Debian; for us just continuing to drop the
incorrect directions is probably the simplest solution.

Thanks for updating the pot file as well; at some point it would be nice
to make it automatically update during packaging as Daniel suggested,
but for now updating it manually is probably sufficient.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 287428] [NEW] Menu key emits XF86WakeUp on Thinkpad X61s

2009-06-15 Thread Launchpad Bug Tracker
You have been subscribed to a public bug:

When I press the menu key on Thinkpad X61s, it doesn't do anything. I
checked with xev and the generated keycode is 151 (xev-reported), which
is mapped to I151 and this, in turn to XF86WakeUp.

I tried diferent keyboard models for Thinkpads, bot none of them worked
in this respect. A temporary solution was to replace XF86WakeUp with
Menu in /usr/share/X11/xkb/symbols/inet:86, where I151 is mapped.

I am running fully up-to-date intrepid:

xkeyboard-config (1.6-1ubuntu1) karmic; urgency=low

  * Merge from debian unstable (LP: #386445), remaining changes:
- debian/xkeyboard-config.pot: Add pot file for translations (updated)
- README.Debian: Don't advertise hacking on base.xml
  * All Ubuntu patches dropped, applied in source. Except for one small
part of 110_fi_brokenbar.patch which upstream rejected.

  * Add Breaks on old libx11-6. It seems some people are keeping very, very
old libx11-6 versions, which didn't know about some keysyms we're now
using, thus making their keyboard unusable (closes: #530585, #514975).
  * New upstream release
+ adds Crimean Tatar layouts (closes: #513557)
+ French translation updated (closes: #529479)
+ fixes handling of compat layouts (closes: #514409)
  * Patches sclk_toggle.diff and unhide_lv3_enter_switch.diff are upstream.
  * Add README.source, bump Standards-Version to 3.8.1.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 287428] Re: Menu key emits XF86WakeUp on Thinkpad X61s

2009-06-15 Thread Steve Langasek
jango, the bug is marked incomplete because there's no evidence that
this is a kernel bug. There is only a configuration bug, which is that
you should not use any model other than 'Generic evdev' with current
versions of the kernel and X. Since this is effectively a configuration
error, the only way to fix this would be to wipe out or ignore the
user's keyboard configuration choice.

This would have to be handled by something in the X stack, so
reassigning back to xkeyboard-config.

It does not need to be part of the binary package nor of the source

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 345076] Re: Kubuntu 9.04 alpha6 panel corruption

2009-06-15 Thread RK
*** This bug is a duplicate of bug 343944 ***
https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/343944

This is not, I repeat *not*, and never ever was at all a kde4libs bug
as you so adamantly proclaimed.

I never proclaimed it was a kde4libs bugs, I only refused to accept the
bug being shifted to the video driver(s) without explanation, and quite
rightfully so. I'd say it would be quite appropriate if you would
acknowledge that your insistance on shifting the blame to the drivers
was wrong and that the reported corruptions were, in fact, the same.

Additionally, it would be very helpful for the project if you would step
down the high horse here. It shouldn't matter whether I am a kubuntu
developer (which I never claimed to be), a debian developer, a kde
developer, a developer (which I am) or a user. You went to a great
length to explain why I'd be stupid, and even stooped to claim I
couldn't be a developer just because I might not know every detail of
KDE programming intrinsacies. I did try my best to provide insight based
on what I saw and could figure out. You simply did not, -- except for
your last comment. If you'd presented your insight earlier instead of
commencing a close/open war, you could have saved us a lot of time. You
could also have resisted from your self-righteousness, considering how
wrong you have been here.

And let's not forget that what you call shenanigans prevented this bug
from rotting away as a driver issue...

That being said, I still thank you for (finally) providing the insight
that explains what we see.

2009-06-15 Thread lugburz
Hi Geir, yes, using the 2.4 driver without explicitly setting the
virtual area to 1440x900 or larger I obtain only resolution within the
area of the main display (1280x800), this happened also using 8.10.

I just tried karmic allpha-2 but having the same problem I'm
experiencing now: resolution limited to 1360x768. The xrand --verbose
output and Xorg.0.log in debugging mode are attached. the files have the
suffix -karmic.

The xrand and Xorg.0.log files for the version 2.4 have the suffix
xorg-2.4.

I hope I have attached all the files you asked.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 348052] Re: Race condition in /usr/bin/xvfb-run causes concurrent invocations to fail

2009-06-15 Thread cburroughs
I can not claim if this is idiomatic or not, but the attached patch
allows Andrew Pollock to run for me with dash.

Past about 10 concurrent Xvfbs I get several messages along the lines
of:

XIO: fatal IO error 11 (Resource temporarily unavailable) on X server :658.0
after 102 requests (90 known processed) with 0 events remaining.

But they do not appear to indicate a problem; a script to take 100
screenshots of xclock in separate Xvfbs produced 100 valid screenshots
despite several messages like the one above.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 386714] [NEW] ATI video file will not install

2009-06-15 Thread Launchpad Bug Tracker
You have been subscribed to a public bug:

Binary package hint: ubuntu-docs

My video card is a series 1600 Radeon from ATI and it will not install with any
of the files from ATI for (Legacy?) cards. I keep getting Error:
/default_policy.sh does not support version
default:v2:i686:lib:none:2.6.28-11-generic; make sure that the version is being
correctly set by -iscurrentdistro
Can you help as I would like to get decent video on the computer.
Thank you.

** Affects: fglrx-installer (Ubuntu)

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 386714] Re: ATI video file will not install

2009-06-15 Thread Tormod Volden
If you are installing files from ATI we can not help you. Your card is
supported by the free xserver-xorg-video-ati driver in Ubuntu 9.04. As
an alternative you can use the System-Administration-Hardware Manager
to install the proprietary fglrx driver.

** Package changed: xserver-xorg-driver-ati (Ubuntu) = fglrx-installer
(Ubuntu)

** Changed in: fglrx-installer (Ubuntu)
   Status: New = Invalid
