[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 388413] Re: xine crashes on open with X Error - BadAlloc

2009-06-18 Thread Reinhard Tartler
Yes, you're using the intel driver and xv is working fine. The driver
reports that it is out of ressources and xine can nothing do but quit.

I believe that this is a limitation in either your hardware or in the
driver. Does xine work if you lower the display resolution?

in any case, I open a bugtask for the intel driver.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 372425] Re: [Broadcom] Upgrade 'wl' to latest version: 5.10.91.9

2009-06-18 Thread Stefan Bader
Ok, pulled the proposed kernel and lrm for Jaunty and ran a loop of git
clone for the kernel tree over wireless using the wl driver. So far it
has done 42 iterations and is still running. I would say at least this
seems not to have become worse.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 366270] Re: [i945] [Xubuntu, i945] wrong screen resolution after upgrade to Jaunty

2009-06-18 Thread Michal Kaut
Quick fix, in case someone has the same problem: add the following to
/etc/gdm/Init/Default:
if xrandr -q | grep -q VGA connected; then
xrandr --output LVDS --off --output VGA --auto
fi

What it does: if an external monitor is detected, it will switch off the
internal one and sets the monitor to its optimal resolution. An even
better solution would be to set-up an extended desktop in the case the
laptop lid is opened, but I do not know how to detect this...

More info about why this patch works

It looks like the original bug is a combination of two issues:
1. The system does not detect that the laptop lid is closed and starts with
LVDS output on
2. When both LVDS and VGA outputs are on (and the lid is closed), they get both
drawn on the main monitor, the LVDS being drawn over the VGA screen..

This can be illustrated by the following three versions of
/etc/gdm/Init/Default. (Note that I am now running with an 1280x1024 external
monitor, while the original post was done with 1680x1050 - but is should not
make any difference):
I. no changes
- system (gdm) starts in 1024x768 resolution
- after login, I see the LVDS wallpaper
- xrandr -q gives:

Screen 0: minimum 320 x 200, current 1024 x 768, maximum 1280 x 1280
VGA connected 1024x768+0+0 (normal left inverted right x axis y axis) 338mm x
270mm
   1280x1024 60.0 + 75.0 60.0
   1152x864 75.0
   1024x768 75.0*70.1 60.0
   832x62474.6
   800x60072.2 75.0 60.3
   640x48075.0 72.8 59.9
   720x40070.1
LVDS connected 1024x768+0+0 (normal left inverted right x axis y axis) 261mm x
163mm
   1280x800 60.0 +
   1024x768 85.0 75.0*70.1 60.0
   832x62474.6
   800x60085.1 72.2 75.0 60.3 56.2
   640x48085.0 72.8 75.0 59.9
   720x40085.0
   640x40085.1
   640x35085.1
TV disconnected (normal left inverted right x axis y axis)

Note that LVDS is connected (even if the lid is closed) and that both LVDS and
VGA have wrong resolution (which happens to be the biggest common resolution -
is this a coincidence?)

II. /etc/gdm/Init/Default with added xrandr --output VGA --auto
- system starts with the correct resolution (1280x1024)
- I get the LVDS wallpaper drawn over the VGA one
- xrandr -q gives (deleted the lower resolutions lines for brevity):

Screen 0: minimum 320 x 200, current 1280 x 1024, maximum 1280 x 1280
VGA connected 1280x1024+0+0 (normal left inverted right x axis y axis) 338mm x
270mm
   1280x1024 60.0*+ 75.0 60.0*
   1152x864 75.0
   1024x768 75.0 70.1 60.0
LVDS connected 1024x768+0+0 (normal left inverted right x axis y axis) 261mm x
163mm
   1280x800 60.0 +
   1024x768 85.0 75.0*70.1 60.0
TV disconnected (normal left inverted right x axis y axis)

III. The fix from the start of this post
- everything works OK, assuming one has a closed lid
- xrandr -q output:

Screen 0: minimum 320 x 200, current 1280 x 1024, maximum 1280 x 1280
VGA connected 1280x1024+0+0 (normal left inverted right x axis y axis) 338mm x
270mm
   1280x1024 60.0*+ 75.0 60.0*
   1152x864 75.0
LVDS connected (normal left inverted right x axis y axis)
   1280x800 60.0 +
   1024x768 85.0 75.0 70.1 60.0
TV disconnected (normal left inverted right x axis y axis)

Note that there is no * in the LVDS output, so it is connected but not active

@Tormod Volden, yes, the system went completely frozen. No terminal, no

yesterday I installed the system for a friend don't know if it works
flawless. I will report relative problems from the user.

I have the same problem, except that in my case it the BIOS was already

the screen (the rest of the screen stays black), and then everything
hangs.

I've just seen another hang, where I wasn't running compiz. I didn't

This happened after an hour or so of work in the morning, after
dismissing a full-screen totem session (which I'd accidentally left
running overnight when I meant to suspend).

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 372144] Re: Top part of window garbled when I shift to evince window

I thought I submitted a follow-up to this several weeks ago but for some
reason I'm not seeing it now. In response to your questions, at the time
I submitted this bug I had no customizations to xorg.conf. I'm attaching
the output of lspci -vvnn here (this output comes from intrepid
although it's exactly the same hardware I experienced the bug under).

Unfortunately, I probably won't be able to provide much more information
because I've reverted to intrepid for speed and stability reasons.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 388357] Re: [i965] X freeze on karmic after resume from full screen application: i915_gem_retire_work_handler() / finish_task_switch()

2009-06-18 Thread Arvind
The hangs do not occur every time I blank the screen using xset dpms force off.
Sometimes it occurs the 1st time I do it, sometimes after many blanks.
I'm on jaunty with the 2.6.28-11-generic kernel, with the latest
xserver-xorg-core and have the xserver-xorg-video-intel packages from the
xorg-edgers ppa.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 306605] Re: Random artifacting on Jaunty x64

2009-06-18 Thread theweak
Same issues on HP Pavilion TX2000, amd64, GeForce Go 6150.
NVIDIA Driver Version: 185.18.14 on Linux-x86_64

All patches installed.
I'm also running compiz, but without it's the same thing.

This issue really drives me crazy since I had a similar problem with
Ubuntu 8.10. I think that issue was fixed in 8.10 by updating the nvidia
drivers to 180.xyz

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 385451] Re: [Aspire one A110, karmic] right edge scrolling stops working

2009-06-18 Thread tekstr1der
Any update on this yet? I have this exact issue with Synaptics touchpad.
I can confirm the synaptics driver is loaded and synclient -l shows
VertEdgeScroll=1. If I change the value of RightEdge=5192 to
RightEdge=5300, the vertical scrolling works again for a short (less
than 1 minute) while.

This issue combined with the disabled tap-clicking (by design from what
I infer) makes for a much less usefull touchpad experience.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 362883] Re: f-spot slideshow fails with Mesa 7.4 implementation error: bad wrapMode in clamp_rect_coord_linear

2009-06-18 Thread Chris Knight
I also get this happening. First time using f-spot, loaded images from
camera via f-spot and tried to view full-screen. First image was a
vertical shot. It correctly showed as expected in the full-screen mode,
but the sides of the image repeated all the way to the edge of the
screen (e.g. there is no black strips where there isn't supposed to be
image). F-spot is then locked, but my computer is still functional. I
can't exit full-screen via escape, but I can alt-tab and execute other
non-fspot keyboard shortcuts. Console repeats with (apparently
harmless) message above. Rather new to this, but happy to help. Based
on posts above, here's what I've got:

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 386820] [NEW] X Server is already running on Display 0:

2009-06-18 Thread Launchpad Bug Tracker
You have been subscribed to a public bug:

Whenever I try to log into the computer from GDM, I get a bug saying
that there is already an X Server running on Display 0:. It gives me an
option to start a new one on the next display. If I say yes, it has me
log on again, and then just tells me there's already an X server running
on that display. If I say no, it has me log on again and tells me the
same error. I'm told that I could work around this bug if I could
remove the X server lock in temp, however, the tty shells appear to be
broken too. I try to log into them and then they just have me enter my
credentials again.

I have never had this kind of negative experience before with Ubuntu.
I'd like some kind of fix.

For reference, my video card is an nVidia 9500. This bug occured with
both the 173 drivers and the 180 drivers, so it would seem drivers are
unrelated.

UPDATE - I've decided to go back to 8.04 LTS, as this bug has remained
unfixed for so long.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 389150] Re: my xorg is giving me trouble(only low graphics mode)

2009-06-18 Thread Brian Murray
Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu
better. This bug did not have a package associated with it, which is important
for ensuring that it gets looked at by the proper developers. You can learn
more about finding the right package at
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Bugs/FindRightPackage. I have classified this bug as a
bug in xorg.
For future reference you might be interested to know that a lot of applications
have bug reporting functionality built in to them. This can be accessed via
the Report a Problem option in the Help menu for the application with which you
are having an issue or using the command 'ubuntu-bug' and the package name in a
terminal. You can learn more about this feature at
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/ReportingBugs.

It appears to be a xorg or gdm problem. I'm setting the package as xorg,

Re the full screen aspect, it could be coincidental, but sort of jumped

 check the dump output.

I don't think INTEL_DEBUG=sync applies, since I can get the crash without
any 3D applications. I attached a second dump to see if it's more useful

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 388055] Re: [Karmic, G965, XorgEdge] Suspend, dualscreen broken

2009-06-18 Thread Bryce Harrington
Bug reports should focus only on a single issue. The suspend issue
might be a kernel problem, and in any case there's not sufficient
information to troubleshoot that. So this bug report will only focus on
the mirror issue. If you want the suspend issue investigated, file a
new bug against the kernel and refer to the suspend/resume
troubleshooting guide for directions on analysis you need to do and
information to include in your report.

bug than X.

Also btw when you file bugs in the future please use the 'ubuntu-bug'

X.org problems.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 389150] Re: my xorg is giving me trouble(only low graphics mode)

2009-06-18 Thread Robert Hooker
the nvidia kernel module is loading from the propritary drivers, but x
is trying to load xserver-xorg-video-nv. If you installed the binary
drivers from nvidia.com to get into this situation you will want to run
sudo nvidia-settings --uninstall and then install the binary drivers
provided by ubuntu instead after you reboot. if thats not the case you
can do a sudo apt-get install nvidia-graphics-drivers-180 and it will
overwrite your xorg.conf with the needed one.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 220951] Re: nvidia-glx-new causes unusable tty's

2009-06-18 Thread lipidicman
I finally solved this problem. Worked on intrepid, worked on Jaunty

In intrepid:
sudo gedit /etc/modprobe.d/options
add the line:
options nvidia NVreg_UseVBios=0

in Jaunty things have changed, you wont find the options file
create a new .conf file in /etc/modprobe.d/ with just this line as content
options nvidia NVreg_UseVBios=0
i named it nvidia-fix.conf but the name doesn't really matter

Others reported they still had blank consoles until they set
vga=791
in the boot options in /boot/grub/menu.lst

GEM does not work on PAE kernels currently, and the -server kernel has
PAE enabled. There is a kernel you can try here with an experimental
patch to enable GEM to work with PAE, but keep in mind that switching to
x64 is by far a better option for system performance than using i386
with PAE.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 316414] Re: [i965] X freezes at least once a day after leaving screensavers or fullscreen video

2009-06-18 Thread Fulano
UncleLev may have found the solution (i'm not on ubuntu anymore):

This thread is located at:
http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=1026881goto=newpost

Here is the message that has just been posted:
***
I'm pretty sure I found the solution, in case there are still folks who have
this issue! :) :) :)

I myself first encountered it today after a fresh installation of Ubuntu
9.04.

Whenever my screen would switch over full screen mode, or switch back
from it, the wallpaper would show for a split second. Not a big deal,
but kinda annoying, especially when it comes out of nowhere.

So anyhow, yes, it is caused by Compiz. I tried various tests...
basically with all the plugins and options that were already set to
default. I tracked it down to coming from a single setting.

Open the CompizConfig Settings Manager program and click General
Options. On the first tab, General, you will see a check box for an
option reading Unredirect Fullscreen Windows. This was checked for me
by default, but after unchecking it, the problem immediately went away.

For any of you folks who still run into this, try what I mention above,
because it was a quick and simple fix, and probably the source of the
problem in the first place.

I'm experiencing this bug too. It's freezing with and without effects,
exa uxa and xaa, it froze durring a login, it realy is random the
underlying system seems to work because hard drive activity continues,
music continues to play etc. caps lock light won't come on during a lock
up though. Are there any workarounds discovered? the previous posts seem
discouraging.

I am currently using AltSysRqs to emergency sync mounted drives
and AltSysRqk to kill all process and shut down as the keyboard
short cuts that call the kernel still function.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 352708] Re: [i915] (Needs KMS) dualscreen: some screen stays dark after suspend/resume via lid

2009-06-18 Thread Bryce Harrington
Hi Andreas,

Going forward, we will be switching on KMS by default for -intel,
probably within the week. Can you re-confirm that the bug is not an
issue with KMS enabled? If that is the case, I think we should just
consider that the fix, since we do not have plans to support !KMS on
-intel.

If you disagree with this approach, you would be welcome to forward the
bug upstream to freedesktop.org for further investigation. I think they
plan to continue supporting !KMS for a while at least.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 352865] Re: [i945gme] enabling visual affects causes graphics glitches for netbook remix (Jaunty Beta)

2009-06-18 Thread Bryce Harrington
(==) intel(0): Using EXA for acceleration

It seems you're still testing against EXA, which is known to have
graphical glitches (and no longer is supported upstream)

Please see if you can reproduce this using UXA. In your xorg.conf set
Option AccelMethod UXA in your device section. If you can still
reproduce, reopen the bug and attach your Xorg.0.log, and if possible a
photo showing the corruption. Or alternatively, test it against Karmic
Alpha-2 or newer.

The file attachments on this bug are not attached correctly. They
should be individual attachments rather than one big concatenated one.

Please reproduce the issue again, and run 'apport-collect 383086', which
should properly attach stuff. Thanks ahead of time.
