[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 400590] [NEW] Xorg loses color depth (?)

2009-07-17 Thread Marcel de Vries
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: xserver-xorg-video-ati

When I change to the console with ctrl+alt+F1 and go back to the Xorg
session (crtl+alt+f7), xorg seems to lose it's color depth information
or something a like. My VGA card is a ATI 4890 and I'm using the default
open-source ati driver.

Last entry from Xorg.0.log:
(II) VESA(0): VBESetVBEMode failed...Tried again without customized values.

I've also attached a screenshot.

Guess it has to do with the video output then, I'll assume that it's

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 383345] Re: [i945GM] dual screen not working with virtual resolution enabled: just a blank screen with a mouse pointer

2009-07-17 Thread jayprakash
Most probably NOT a bug in intel drivers!

I found old .dsc files on xorg-edgers. And compiled many of them.
Right now I'm running on
xserver-xorg-video-intel_2.6.99.1+git20090416.b9716b83-0ubuntu0tormod_i386
and kernel 2.6.30-8
And I can reproduce this bug.

In the evening I'll try to go further back, and search what else was updated in
that time.
It would help if somebody could give me hint what packages.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 400718] [NEW] Alt key in Compiz does not work when Alt is mapped to Right Win, Super to Menu selected

2009-07-17 Thread Steve Alexander
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: xkeyboard-config

To reproduce, log into a Karmic GNOME desktop with compiz turned on.

Open a terminal window, and use alt-tab. A window switcher is
activated.

Go into the keyboard preferences applet, in the Layouts tab choose the
Layout Options button. In Alt/Win key behaviour, change it from
Default to Alt is mapped to Right Win, Super to Menu.

Try alt-tab again. No window switcher is activated. Try alt+win+tab.
A window switcher is activated. Try alt+F1. No panel menu is
activated. Try alt+win+F1. The panel menu is activated. Same for
switching desktops using the keyboard.

Now, restore that setting to Default, and see that the keyboard
shortcuts work as expected.

If you had the Alt is mapped to Right Win, Super to Menu setting set
when you logged in, simply changing it is not enough to get alt-tab
behaviour back to normal; you need to log out and log back in after
returning the setting to Default.

This appears to be a similar problem to the invalid bug 368661.

A similar bug is reported here:

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 338628] Re: [M24] Kubuntu: corrupted graphics, choppy scrolling

2009-07-17 Thread YAFU
Similar problem here.
Usually I get corruption at the top of the screen in konqueror and Dolphin. The
problem in Kate often appears between the text of the center. Sometimes appear
as the file attached by Martin, others like screenshot that I uploaded. Not
only happend doing scrolling, sometimes also by clicking on show desktop and
then returning to dolphin or konqueror, as if it failed to redraw properly the
top of the screen and displays it merged with the wallpaper.
The problem does not always happen and sometimes part of the corrupted image is
fixed by passing the mouse over it.
I have Kubuntu 9.04 with KDE 4.2.96 (KDE 4.3 RC2), but also I had the problem
with earlier versions.
My computer has an onboard ATI x1250 and the driver I use is
xserver-xorg-video-radeon and I have the compositing enabled. I tried with
EXA and XAA but I have the problem with both. With XAA is happening more often.
Bye.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 366270] Re: [i945] [Xubuntu, i945] wrong screen resolution after upgrade to Jaunty

2009-07-17 Thread Brett Alton
Upon further inspection, it appears that 800x600 is the lowest-common-
denominator when it comes to the screen resolutions of both monitors
(according to Display Preferences).

Dell Inspiron Mini 9
1024x600 (16:9)
800x600 (4:3)
640x480 (4:3)
720x400 (9:5)
640x400 (16:10)
640x350 (9:5)

KDS 22 External Monitor
1680x1050 (16:10)
1280x1024 (5:4)
1440x900 (16:10)
1024x768 (4:3)
800x600 (4:3)
640x480 (4:3)
720x400 (9:5)

Is there anyway to force, when mirroring, both monitors to 1024x600 so
the widescreen monitor is less stretched?

I assume this method of finding the lowest-common-denominator is how the
software is intended to work, but it looks pretty bad have the
resolution of 800x600 stretched on a 22 monitor.

Nonsense!

It depends on what one wants to achieve. Bugs are fixed in LP. I'm
sure there is good support to get things running in the forum. But
there is good information in this ticket as well on how to alleviate the
effect of this bug.

As I already said here, the patch unfortunately is not a proper fix.
We're still looking for that. With the XAA workaround, the pressure is
somewhat off, though ;-)

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 400797] [NEW] (Intel, KMS) xrandr cannot change relative positions of outputs

2009-07-17 Thread nickolai
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: xorg

Running kernel 2.6.31-3.19 and xserver-xorg-video-intel
2:2.7.99.901+git20090702.74227141-0ubuntu1 on a Thinkpad W500 laptop, I
cannot get xrandr to place the VGA output anywhere but to the right of
the LVDS output.

In particular, I used to be able to run xrandr --output VGA --auto
--above LVDS or xrandr --output VGA --auto --below LVDS to get them
stacked vertically with respect to each other. Now, these commands do
nothing; the VGA output gets always placed to the right of LVDS and none
of these xrandr invocations change it.

Another minor annoyance: previously, running xrandr would only list
the state of the different outputs. Now, running xrandr seems to
automatically enable the VGA output, without any request on my behalf to
do so.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 398204] Re: 9.04 PPC: X only partially functional

2009-07-17 Thread Thomas Ribbrock
On closer inspection, I noticed that this bug report touches separate,
most likely independent issues (X with fbdev vs. X with r128 driver).
Hence, I decided to replace this bug report with separate ones to make
it easier to focus on one single issue:

1) r128 does not detect ATI Rage 128 on G3 iMac:
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/xserver-xorg-video-r128/+bug/400864
2) fbdev wrongly configured in X :
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/xserver-xorg-video-fbdev/+bug/400875

This bug report is therefore obsolete. I shall try to close it myself -
if that fails, please close it for me.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 269904] Re: Screen refresh problems with nvidia on intrepid

2009-07-17 Thread hkais
Hello all,

the problem isn't solved with the Force synchronization between X and GLX.
It helped a litte bit, so the screen gets rerendered, but only if you click on
any window-decoration or the gnome menu.

Here an additional screenshot with activated Force synchronization between X
and GLX.
I cannot reproduce the issue, but it often happens if I switch back or into
vmware-player/workstation.

I haven't installed any other drivers as the default once, which are
published with the usual ubuntu repos. This is my business notebook,
therefore it must stay available.

Here more infos:
lspci | grep VGA
01:00.0 VGA compatible controller: nVidia Corporation Quadro NVS 140M (rev a1)

lspci -n|grep 01:00.0
01:00.0 0300: 10de:0429 (rev a1)

I am running on Lenovo T61 with the latest default provided proprietary
nvidia drivers ver 180.

uname -a
Linux ntp-dp 2.6.28-13-server #45-Ubuntu SMP Tue Jun 30 20:51:10 UTC 2009 i686
GNU/Linux

Ubuntu 9.04 (32bit)

I hope someone can help me?
Maybe it is correlated with the Bug #393176 ?

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 400934] [NEW] (UXA) Intel Corporation 82945G/GZ Integrated Graphics Controller [8086:2772] (rev 02)

2009-07-17 Thread Pablo Almeida
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: xserver-xorg-video-intel

Things seem a lot more beautiful: glxgears works fine and no major
visible problem (maybe the minimize effect was a little less fast?), but
it turns the whole system unusable. It totally freezes Ubuntu (can't
even move the cursor), sometimes after dragging a window, sometimes just
after moving the cursor! Anyway, it doesn't take longer than a minute to
freeze, so, I switched back to EXA (unfortunnely...).
