[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 286001] Re: [g45] Incorrect resolution when docked on Dell Latitude E6400
No, the problem still remains. KMS detects and sets the preferred resolutions for each device correctly (1600x1200 on DVI1, 1440x900 on LVDS1). When X starts up, the resolutions set by KMS IMHO should be kept, but aren't. X sets both displays to the highest common resolution, which is 1152x864. Though you can see what you're doing on both displays this way, it defeats the purpose of KMS (set resolutions as early as possible and use them when X is starting) and adds unnecessary flickering and delay to the boot process (when X resets both displays to a common resolution). Using another resolution than the preferred one doesn't look that good on a TFT, either. If the lid is closed, there isn't even a point in limiting the resolution to 1152x864 as LVDS1 should then simply be disabled. The only enabled output should then be DVI1 at 1600x1200, which could be fully used. In my opinion it would be best if the resolutions set by KMS are kept by X and the usable area on both displays should be determined by the display with the lower resolution (1440x900 fits into 1600x1200), much like it is already happening during boot with usplash. If the lid is closed during startup, there is no point in enabling LVDS1 and limiting the usable area as I can't see anything on there as long as the lid is closed. Those are the scenarios as I think they should be (but aren't): 1. Booting with LVDS1 and DVI1 attached, lid open: - KMS sets LVDS1 to 1440x900, DVI1 to 1600x1200 - X starts up and restricts the usable area to 1440x900, but doesn't reset the resolutions 2a. Booting with LVDS1 and DVI1 attached, lid closed: - KMS sets LVDS1 to 1440x900, DVI1 to 1600x1200 - X starts up and disables LVDS1, leaving DVI1 fully usable OR (better): 2b. Booting with LVDS1 and DVI1 attached, lid closed: - KMS sets DVI1 to 1600x1200, LVDS1 disabled - X starts up and uses the only enabled output: DVI1 I attached a little ASCII drawing which hopefully explains what I mean by restricting the usable area. If you need any more information, please let me know. ** Attachment added: usable_area.txt http://launchpadlibrarian.net/29707077/usable_area.txt ** Changed in: xserver-xorg-video-intel (Ubuntu) Status: Fix Released = New -- [g45] Incorrect resolution when docked on Dell Latitude E6400 https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/286001 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to xserver-xorg-video-intel in ubuntu. ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp

Hello, Bryce. I have attached the requested info. This issue is permanent, it's not something that I can reproduce on occasion. Apparently, it affects all programs that use OpenGL. [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 406790] [NEW] Very slow resume after hibernation with nvidia binary driver version 180.44
You have been subscribed to a public bug: I'm not sure which package this affects. It some kind of resume issue after hibernation when using the nvidia binary driver (version 180.44). Further information: Suspend and Hibernation work with both the nv and the nvidia binary driver (version 180.44) from the jaunty repo. With the nv driver the hibernation-image is written back and after just a few moments the system is back with the password prompt and I can go on working. This does not take much time and depends on the size of the resume image. With the binary driver, after the image is written back to RAM, the hard disk LED does not seem to blink anymore and the screen becomes black with the cursor blinking in the lower left corner for about 30 seconds. Then there is a beep and the screen becomes completely black for around 35 seconds to the next beep and then after a few moments the password prompt appears and work can go on. I don't know what's the reason for that 65 seconds of black-screen-extra-time-with-beeping-around when using the nvidia binary driver but in my opinion this should be improved. [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 385232] Re: [i965] UXA Freeze
I attached the dumps and I'm not nattgew :P. Anyway. All dri_debug*.tgz files already have Xorg.0.log inside them representing the log of the frozen X server at that moment. Or you want clean log? In that case I attach the Xorg.0.log of the current (and so far not frozen) process. One thing more I wanted to say. I have another machine here which runs very nicely with -intel. No freezes, no font corruptions. It has up-to-date drivers/libraries from sarvatt, but couple of differences: 1) a bit different graphics chipset: 00:02.0 VGA compatible controller: Intel Corporation 82G33/G31 Express Integrated Graphics Controller (rev 10) 2) it has 64-bit ubuntu, mine (the freexing one) has 32-bit OS.' 3) 2.6.30-020630-generic kernel (should be about the same as my 2.6.30-9). Maybe points somebody to the right direction solving this problem. ** Attachment added: Xorg.0.log http://launchpadlibrarian.net/29710304/Xorg.0.log -- [i965] UXA Freeze https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/385232 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to xserver-xorg-video-intel in ubuntu. ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 309434] Re: Caps Lock stops being a Control key with an external keyboard
*** This bug is a duplicate of bug 289781 *** https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/289781 I also think the duplicate status *may* be wrong. Whereas #289781 describes a solution of running setxkbmap after resume, this wouldn't work to fix this bug. In this case, the keyboard mappings are lost every time the external keyboard is unplugged, so running it after resume won't guarantee proper functioning of the keyboard throughout the execution of the application, since a future disconnect of the external keyboard will bring the issue back. This ticket (309434) is the only one that clearly describes what the issue really is. BTW, I'm using a wireless keyboard, which means that every time that my keyboard loses connection even for a split second with its base, it resets my keyboardmap, making this the most annoying ubuntu bug I've come across, and a very important bug one to be fixed for any users of wireless keyboards with custom mappings. There was a link to Bug #363169 in the update notification, so maybe these are dupes? BTW, that bug is in libxklavier, and has duplicate bugs filed against xserver-xorg-input-evdev as comment #17 suggested. That is, after these updates, I can now unplug and replug an external keyboard and retain my Dvorak layout settings. That sounds really great. I still use my workaround thing so I didn't notice that anything happened, since I made my own layout to be the system standard, so instead of switching from my own layout to the standard Swedish layout, it switch from my own layout to my own layout, so I will never notice any difference… One thing that I have noticed, by the way, is that sometimes when I unplug the receiver and replug it, the whole system crash… I am still on Ubuntu 8.10, so I am not sure I have the same updates as you guys with the newest version.
