[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 407587] Re: karmic: 865g is pretty unstable

Render acceleration should be disabled for now, since it doesn't seem
like getting fixed anytime soon. There's a fresh patch to disable it in
the Debian package.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 358793] Re: UNR jaunty: Slow interface, high CPU load

2009-08-01 Thread Jayden
I don't think this problem is the gnome-panel bug, because it's not only slow
the first time, it's slow all the time.
It's not a minor slowdown, it's unworkable slow.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 405201] Re: X on Xubuntu daily install cd (Karmic) Fails on S3 Savage

2009-08-01 Thread SpmP
The latest daily build isnt available atm, but I tried upgrading to the latest
xorg etc. and the problem persists, suggesting that the problem is more with
xorg than the live cd (i.e the live cd contains the xorg, which is the problem)
Reverted back to xorg from jaunty and everything is OK.

Apport-collect will be from Karmic Xubuntu, with Jaunty xorg.

I downgraded the following packages:
libx11-data
x11-xserver-utils
xserver-common
xserver-xorg
xserver-xorg-{
core
input-evdev
input synaptics
video-fbdev
video-s3
video-s3virge
video-savage
video-v4l
video-vesa
}

I havnt been able to get an X log from 1.6.1
Hope this helps.
(dammit apport being a **(! bad gateways, and wrong permssions... uug. )

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 407444] Re: Xorg crashes with 2.6.28-14

2009-08-01 Thread Joel Marty
I tried to update nvidia driver to 185.18 with ppa and it worked, Xorg
doesn't crash anymore.

I noticed at boot that DKMS compiled the new kernel module and it
reminded me that when I first booted on 2.6.28-14 with 180.44 driver,
DKMS didn't recompiled the kernel module ; could this issue be related
to dkms not doing its job?

Re: [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 370205] Re: [RV280] X locks up - wrong agp mode

2009-08-01 Thread Michal Suchanek
2009/8/1 Bryce Harrington br...@bryceharrington.org:
Since the hardware is no longer available for doing troubleshooting
with, we'll have to close the bug for now.  However please feel free to
reopen if you or anyone else has the same HW and can reproduce this
issue using the latest development version of Ubuntu and is willing to
 do some troubleshooting with it.

This is not going to be completely resolved until the X server can
determine the correct AGP mode from the hardware state.

Currently it guesses it, and sometimes guesses wrong so some hardware
configurations are broken.

2009-08-01 Thread Daëavelwyn
I have exactly the same problem (maximise/minimise really slow) I can
add the problem is also present when I use yakuake. It take about 1 to 3
seconds between the moment I press the F12 key (to launch yakuake) and
the moment it appears.

I've ubuntu 9.04 with a radeon 3670hd and FGLRX driver (9.7) . Compiz-
fusion is enabled, but I've try with and without compiz-fusion, and the
problem still appears.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 399821] Re: [i845] karmic fails to initialise display on boot. 2.6.31-3 + drm + Intel 845G

2009-08-01 Thread Rebug
Linux-image-2.6.31-020631rc3-generic
This image runs black-screen right after boot start.
Recovery mode: all text boot to console and if I enter exit this Linux-image
boots normal to login and I can use karmic koala.

Linux-image-2.6.31-020631rc2-generic
The image is installed and I can find it in synaptic however not on list
grub.cfg or the grub-boot-menu so can not test.

My window version xp is on karmic koala list grub.cfg but not on grub-
boot-menu so to start windows I have to edit grub-boot-menu at start.

Up to now all karmic koala Linux-images takes about 4 minutes to load
hardware drivers, long boot time.

Karmic koala gedit crashes all the time so I use Ubuntu version 9.04
for viewing karmic koala file-system.

I am running Linux-image-2.6.31-020631rc3-generic with this post.
Thanks

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 407793] [NEW] [i865g][Karmic Alpha 3] X corruption and freeze when clicking Other on GDM login screen

2009-08-01 Thread Michael Chang
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: xserver-xorg-video-intel

1) The release of Ubuntu you are using, via 'lsb_release -rd' or System
- About Ubuntu.

mich...@kiwi:~/dri_debug$ lsb_release -rd
Description:Ubuntu karmic (development branch)
Release:9.10

2) The version of the package you are using, via 'apt-cache policy
packagename' or by checking in Synaptic.

mich...@kiwi:~/dri_debug$ apt-cache policy xserver-xorg-video-intel
xserver-xorg-video-intel:
  Installed: 2:2.8.0-0ubuntu1
  Candidate: 2:2.8.0-0ubuntu1

3) What you expected to happen

The screen would display a username field and allow me to type in my
username.

4) What happened instead

The screen displays the username field, but black boxes (corruption?)
appear above and below it, and the computer stops responding to all
keyboard input, with the exception of Alt-SysRq keys. Hitting Caps Lock
does NOT make the respective keyboard LED go on, but hitting Num Lock
does. It is possible to move the cursor with the mouse, but clicking
does not do anything.

--- As per https://wiki.ubuntu.com/X/Troubleshooting/Freeze

# When did you first notice it? Did you change any settings (Desktop
Effects?) or update your system prior to first noticing it?

Freezes have generally been intermittent on this machine since Jaunty,
but it hasn't been possible to reproduce with any sort of consistency.
Doing a clean install of Karmic Alpha 3 causes this particular freeze to
always happen when doing these particular steps.

# What frequency does it occur? Just once? Hourly? Daily?

Occurs every time I start the computer.

# Try to determine actions which reproduce it or make it more/less
likely to reproduce.

Always reproduceable by clicking Other in gdm.

-- As per (https://wiki.ubuntu.com/X/Reporting)

- Paste in output of lspci -nn | grep VGA

mich...@kiwi:~/dri_debug$ lspci -nn | grep VGA

Get a full backtrace (X/Backtracing)

How complete is the X failure?
+ Does ctrl+alt+f1 take you to a console?
No.
+ Does ctrl+alt+backspace restart X?
No.
+ Does mouse pointer still move?
Yes.
+ Does the keyboard LED come on when hitting the CAPSLOCK key?
No.
+ Can you ssh into the system from another computer?
Yes.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 407816] [NEW] vmmouse should be in main (reverted to universe in intrepid)

2009-08-01 Thread Bryce Harrington
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: xserver-xorg-input-vmmouse

I'm not sure how this happened, but -vmmouse should be in main but for
is actually in universe currently.

Here is the original main promotion bug:

https://bugs.edge.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/xserver-xorg-input-vmmouse/+bug/69780

But as you can see from the latest sync request, it is in universe currently:

https://bugs.edge.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/xserver-xorg-input-vmmouse/+bug/379314

Interestingly, the -vmware driver is in main:
   xserver-xorg-video-vmware:
  Installed: 1:10.16.6-1

  Version table:
 *** 1:10.16.6-1 0
500 http://archive.ubuntu.com karmic/main Packages

Anyone know what caused -vmmouse to drop to universe?

The 9.10 livecd still does not work(current build).

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 363238] Re: very poor Xorg performance on various older graphics HW - XAA solves this

2009-08-01 Thread psfblair
I figured out my issue with getting software rasterization -- it was the
permissions on the device. Based on this bug report here:

http://bugs.freedesktop.org/show_bug.cgi?id=19492

I tried both glxinfo and sudo glxinfo and noted that in the former
case I got software rasterization, while in the latter case I was
getting Mesa DRI Radeon... As recommended in that bug report I set the
permissions on /dev/dri/card0 to 0666 and am now getting Mesa DRI when
I'm not the root user as well. Now EXA acceleration seems to be working
quite well.

Martin Olsson wrote:

@Rolf, note that loading the glx module explicitly doesn't do anything for
 recent X.org
versions (it's autoloaded and so is dri module). Further, the permissions
 on the dri
device node are also no longer in use because that device now has an ACL on
 it (so the
Mode 0666 stuff is obsolete). If you do ls -l /dev/dri/card0 you will
 notice that the
permissions have a small + char next to it, that indicates the presence of
 an ACL.
You can see the ACL using the command getfacl /dev/dri/card0.

Interestingly, the permissions on the dri device node apparently still
do have some relevance; at least they made a big difference in my case.
Is there perhaps a bug lurking here?

huff, is there any way of speeding them up? it's really taking to long
considering the fact that fix is already here and that this is a serious

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 368187] Re: [HD3650] Kubuntu: garbage screen

2009-08-01 Thread pvautrin
I'm having the exact same problem as described by pureblood. Also using HD3650
AGP.
It's not Kubuntu Jaunty specific as I experienced it on Ubuntu 9.04 Amd64 fresh
install, Mythbuntu 9.04 Amd64 fresh install and Ubuntu 9.04 live CD. Each time,
fglrx is not enabled.
Interestingly, this problem only appeared when I replaced my motherboard from
Asus K8N (NVIDIA nForce3) to Gigabyte GA-K8VM800M Rev1.x (VIA K8M800). But it
doesn't seem to be related to the mainboard since pureblood is on an intel
configuration.

Option DRI off did indeed restore desktop display but it's more a
workaround than a solution.
Option AGPMode 8 did not help, and unfortunately my BIOS does not let me
change any AGP settings (except voltage which is on default).

The on board video is supposedly disabled by the BIOS in the presence of
an AGP card, but I'm not sure if linux correctly ignores it or not
always completely...

dmesg, xorg.conf, Xorg.0.log and lspci -vvnn generated with Mythbuntu
are in the attachment.
