[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 396048] Re: X restarts randomly, sometimes machine crashes on X200

2009-08-09 Thread Luka Renko
I have upgraded my X200S today to Karmic and have also experienced
similar problem: I was just dropped to blank screen and machine hanged.

Bryce: I have checked proposed PPA, but there is no newer driver for intel,
only xserver-xorg-video-nv. What else can we do?
BTW, should I open new report for my system?

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 406651] Re: 2.6.28-14 kills PSB driver on Dell Mini 10 Acer One 751h

2009-08-09 Thread Federico Churca
I'm on a Dell Inspiron Mini 10. The same problem (video not working the right
way on new kernel) happened to me when I upgraded fron -11 to -13. I solved it
that time by reinstalling xserver-xorg-video-psb. But now it doesn't work.
I tried Steve Jenkins' quote

apt-get remove psb-kernel-source
apt-get install psb-kernel-source

/quote and it worked, thanks a lot =)

Am I the only one who thinks the guys at ubuntu-mobile who provide the
driver be made aware of this? It seems to happen on every kernel update.
Maybe we should suggest them to include thos two lines on the install
script for the driver?

On a completely different note, and feel completely free to ignore me on the
following issue:
How can I use the same keymap on the console and on Gnome on X11? As far as I
now they have to be set up separately. Is there any way to link the
configurations? At least can anyone give me a link to a forum thread on this
issue?
Again, don't lose your sleep over this last issue, I can live without it solved
and this is not the correct place to ask =) Thanks anyway.

but it does not work in firefox/evolution/gedit.

XKeysymToKeycode returns keycode: 92
XLookupString gives 0 bytes:
XmbLookupString gives 0 bytes:
XFilterEvent returns: False

KeyPress event, serial 35, synthetic NO, window 0x3a1,
root 0x77, subw 0x0, time 6159254, (-178,240), root:(455,614),

XLookupString gives 1 bytes: (40) @

That looks good ... everything ok ... but only for gnome-terminal.
Other Gnome applications do not recognize this combination.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 411164] [NEW] Xorg won't start on PC with ATI Technologies Inc 3D Rage IIC AGP

2009-08-09 Thread Peter Belew
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: xserver-xorg-video-ati

I am able to make video work on this system running the 6.06 LTS
live/desktop CD, manually selecting the screen resolution.

But I am unable to get Xorg to work under later releases. In this case,
I installed 8.10 using the alternate install disk installing text-only,
then tried to install Gnome and Xfce (and dependencies) using apt-get. I
was unable to get Xorg to start.

This system is set up to dual-boot into Linux and FreeBSD 7.1. Xorg and
Gnome do work under FreeBSD (though it is a bit slow).

I tried loading the vesa driver as well; that doesn't work either.

I was unable to install at all from a 9.04 alternate CD, though I
believe I added RAM since I tried that.

I am attaching various configuration and log files.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 411182] [NEW] radeon driver gives blank screen if fglrx is installed but not in use

2009-08-09 Thread Jeffrey Baker
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: xserver-xorg-video-ati

When using the radeon driver I get a blank screen with no cursor and
unresponsive keyboard, if and only if fglrx is also installed. I
believe this may be caused because the fglrxdrm sub module is still
loaded, if present, even when using the radeon driver. Removing the
fglrx packages fixes this problem.

I suggest that either xserver-xorg-video-ati should conflict with fglrx,
or the sub module should somehow be prevented from loading.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 411202] [NEW] Kernel update breaks driver

2009-08-09 Thread Federico Churca
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: xserver-xorg-video-psb

I and several other people have been having problems with the
xserver-xorg-video-psb driver when upgrading kernels.
Doing...

apt-get remove psb-kernel-source
apt-get install psb-kernel-source

...after installing the new kernel, running from it either on low
resolution or on text console, solves the problem. Could you manage to
make that run automatically on each kernel update?

Further details on the following threads:

https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/xserver-xorg-video-psb/+bug/386130
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/xserver-xorg-video-psb/+bug/406651

relevant information here.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 411216] [NEW] firefox freezes intermittently

2009-08-09 Thread ginnyh532
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: nvidia-glx-180

I am having trouble with X not responding to my mouse. At one point,
the freeze-up was so bad that I had to resort to REISUB. Mostly, alt +
key combinations are helping me to get out programs. My mouse is not
the problem - it worked fine up until today. It started having problems
before I ran the apport updates.

I am running Karmic Alpha 3 on an Intel system. My mouse has gone dead
on me again so i can't look up all the information you might want.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 404902] Re: [i945GM] kdm doesn't start correctly after logout

2009-08-09 Thread Diego Schulz
I'm having this problem too. Installed KDE 4.3 this morning and noticed
the problem a few hours later.

I've found a workaround in http://www.phoronix.com/forums/showthread.php?t=15162
Just add

TerminateServer=true

in /etc/kde4/kdm/kdmrc in the [X-:*-Core] section,

[X-:*-Core]
AllowNullPasswd=true
AllowShutdown=All
NoPassEnable=false
NoPassUsers=
ServerArgsLocal=-br -nolisten tcp
ServerCmd=/usr/bin/X
TerminateServer=true

After this, KDM works as expected, but I don't know if this can cause side
effects.
