[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 445170] [NEW] [Karmic] Xorg doesn't display full area on external monitor
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: xserver-xorg-video-intel I plugged in my Dell 24 S2409W with HDMI into my Lenovo IdeaPad Y650 (418534U) and turned on the dual monitor using the Display applet. Correct resolution found: 1920x1080 but the full screen could not be used. It's as if the screens are overlapping, but they are not set to do that in the applet. 2 screenshots are attached. One is a photo of my computer when the screensaver was on. You can see the area that is essentially inactive. I expected the displays to show the full screens for each monitor. http://www.ubuntu-pics.de/bild/26724/display_8ZrT07.png http://www.ubuntu-pics.de/bild/26725/dscn2967_C77Z1J.jpg Similiar bug: 422301 xorg: Installed: 1:7.4+3ubuntu5 Candidate: 1:7.4+3ubuntu5 Version table: *** 1:7.4+3ubuntu5 0 500 http://mirrors.cat.pdx.edu karmic/main Packages 500 http://us.archive.ubuntu.com karmic/main Packages 100 /var/lib/dpkg/status 00:02.0 VGA compatible controller [0300]: Intel Corporation Mobile 4 Series Chipset Integrated Graphics Controller [8086:2a42] (rev 07) ProblemType: Bug Architecture: amd64 Date: Tue Oct 6 22:13:16 2009 DistroRelease: Ubuntu 9.10 MachineType: LENOVO 4185 Package: xserver-xorg-video-intel 2:2.8.1-1ubuntu2 ProcCmdLine: BOOT_IMAGE=/boot/vmlinuz-2.6.31-12-generic root=UUID=94328dd5-96bf-4574-a8c4-fb1f73568bce ro quiet splash ProcEnviron: PATH=(custom, no user) LANG=en_US.UTF-8 SHELL=/bin/bash ProcVersionSignature: Ubuntu 2.6.31-12.39-generic RelatedPackageVersions: xserver-xorg 1:7.4+3ubuntu5 libgl1-mesa-glx 7.6.0~git20090817.7c422387-0ubuntu7 libdrm2 2.4.13-1ubuntu1 xserver-xorg-video-intel 2:2.8.1-1ubuntu2 xserver-xorg-video-ati 1:6.12.99+git20090825.fc74e119-0ubuntu2 SourcePackage: xserver-xorg-video-intel Uname: Linux 2.6.31-12-generic x86_64 XorgConf: Error: [Errno 2] No such file or directory: '/etc/X11/xorg.conf' dmi.bios.date: 01/14/2009 dmi.bios.vendor: LENOVO dmi.bios.version: 15CN21WW(V1.04) dmi.board.name: KIWB3 dmi.board.vendor: LENOVO dmi.board.version: REFERENCE dmi.chassis.asset.tag: No Asset Tag dmi.chassis.type: 10 dmi.chassis.vendor: No Enclosure dmi.chassis.version: N/A dmi.modalias: dmi:bvnLENOVO:bvr15CN21WW(V1.04):bd01/14/2009:svnLENOVO:pn4185:pvrLenovoIdeaPadY650:rvnLENOVO:rnKIWB3:rvrREFERENCE:cvnNoEnclosure:ct10:cvrN/A: dmi.product.name: 4185 dmi.product.version: Lenovo IdeaPad Y650 dmi.sys.vendor: LENOVO fglrx: Not loaded system: distro: Ubuntu architecture: x86_64kernel: 2.6.31-12-generic ** Affects: xserver-xorg-video-intel (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New ** Tags: amd64 apport-bug -- [Karmic] Xorg doesn't display full area on external monitor https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/445170 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to xserver-xorg-video-intel in ubuntu. ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 445180] [NEW] nvidia-xconfig not setting up xorg.conf
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: xorg When installing Nvidia 185 source along with glx, nvidia-xconfig is not automatically running and setting up xorg.conf which I thought is suppose to be normal and not making the end-user run the command. When I first installed Karmic a few days ago after installing Nvidia I did not need to manually run nvidia-xconfig. Today I reinstalled Karmic and after doing an update and then installing Nvidia, after I rebooted I noticed the drivers didn't load and I had to manually run nvidia-xconfig to get xorg.conf setup. [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 445191] [NEW] Enabling proprietory ATI driver prevents X from starting
You have been subscribed to a public bug: Binary package hint: firefox-3.0 Hi The bug report that I am sending doesn't concern Ubuntu 9.04 but Ubuntu 9.10 beta. I have never submitted a bug report to Ubuntu before and I wasn't aware of the Apport tool beforehand. I installed 9.10 out of curiosity to see if the stability and performance problems I experience with the fglrx driver 9.04 would be resolved in 9.10. However, after I enabled the driver by pressing the Restricted Hardware Drivers icon and rebooted the computer, I was presented with a black display – no splash screen, no log on screen, just black (and the caps lock light was blinking). I have since re-installed 9.04 on this system – which explains why some of the auto-generated information in this report isn't correct. Also, and I don't know if this is a related problem or not and whether I should file a separate bug report, after installing 9.10 and being prompted to reboot, the screen would flicker between being black and showing the wallpaper, and the only way to stop the machine was by pressing the off button on the computer. This was before the ATI driver was enabled. [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 415964] Re: [KM400]xv does not work (badalloc, using the x-updates ppa)
Sorry for losing track of this. The version of openchrome in karmic (xserver-xorg-video-openchrome-0.2.903+svn758-0ubuntu1) is still affected by this. Upgrading that package to r800 fixed it. So this is indeed fixed upstream, and it might be nice to get a newer snapshot in the xorg-updates ppa or even in karmic itself, because it still breaks video playback in totem completely (totem crashes with no dialog or the like telling you what's wrong). -- [KM400]xv does not work (badalloc, using the x-updates ppa) https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/415964 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to xserver-xorg-video-openchrome in ubuntu. ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp

Re: [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 359392] Re: [i965] X freezes starting on April 3rd
This bug has been around for a very long time now--it seems over a year and a half (not just from April because I have seen related posts dating to 2008). There are lots of different bugs that lead to the same problem - namely that the system freezes. This particular bug report is for the freezes that started occuring on April 3rd on many systems. This problem has been found (the driver was reading ahead too far into unallocated memory) and fixed. There are other bugs that can cause this (and new bugs may be introduced), but it is not the same bug. Why is it so hard to remedy? Because each bug has a different fix. They're working on a workaround upstream that will automatically restart the GPU when it hangs, but since that a significant chunk of new code it takes time to implement. If you're system is experiencing freezes, file it as new bug report with `ubuntu-bug -p xserver-xorg-video-intel`, and also provide the information described at https://wiki.ubuntu.com/X/Troubleshooting/Freeze (Batchbuffer stuff, etc.) -- [i965] X freezes starting on April 3rd https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/359392 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is the registrant for xf86-video-intel. ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 278285] [NEW] unresolvable problem when upgrading from 7.10 to 8.04
You have been subscribed to a public bug: Binary package hint: update-manager Description:Ubuntu 7.10 Release:7.10 Hi, I'm trying to update (using System / Administration / Update Manager) from 7.10 to 8.04, and getting this message: A unresolvable problem occurred while calculating the upgrade. This can be caused by: * Upgrading to a pre-release version of Ubuntu * Running the current pre-release version of Ubuntu * Unofficial software packages not provided by Ubuntu If none of this applies, then please report this bug against the 'update-manager' package and include the files in /var/log/dist-upgrade/ in the bugreport. I'm not doing anything with pre-releases, and I don't think there's anything unusual on this machine that might be getting in the way. I've previously upgraded from 6.10 to 7.04 to 7.10 with pretty much the same stuff. I'm attaching main.log from /var/log/dist-upgrade. It ends with: 2008-10-04 13:37:14,941 DEBUG Marking 'ubuntu-desktop' for upgrade 2008-10-04 13:37:15,317 DEBUG The package 'nvidia-glx' is marked for removal but it's in the removal blacklist 2008-10-04 13:37:34,442 ERROR Dist-upgrade failed: 'A essential package would have to be removed' I found /usr/share/update-manager/removal_blacklist.cfg and tried commenting out the nvidia-glx entries, but get the same error as above. Please let me know if you need to see more logs. I also found: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/update-manager/+bug/249329 Relating to Intrepid, which made me think of looking for removal_blacklist.cfg and commenting out the nvidia lines. I'm tagging this bug with 'ubuntu-boot-experience', because in my case of dual monitors gdm is choosing an 800 x 600 mode rather than a 1024 x 768 mode, which looks very crude to my eyes. [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 445531] [NEW] intel gma 950 still not working in 9.04 or 9.10
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: xserver-xorg-video-intel Bug showed up in 9.04, never resolved. Using 9.10 (beta) right now and bug is still there, identical results. Using 64 bit version, with standard recognized xserver-xorg-video-intel driver for onboard intel 945g graphics driving a Viewsonic G810 21 VGA monitor. On other OSs, ideal resolution is 1280x...@85hz. This option is not offered in SystemPrefsDisplay. Closest to this are 1280x1...@75 (5:4, scrunched) and 1152x...@75 (whole screen is off to right side). Have tried Synaptic PM to find updated intel 950 driver, have tried messing with xorg.conf files, all with no results or change. In fact, the only refresh rates offered are 60 or 75hz, and they are locked to various resolutions, but none are ideal or even usable. Again, earlier drivers/kernels appeared to work - ex., 8.04 with a little tweaking gave great results with intel gma 950. Starting with 9.04, all heck broke loose. Synaptic PM reports driver as xserver-xorg-video-intel 2:2.8.1-1ubuntu2 Linux ubuntu 2.6.31-11-generic #36-Ubuntu SMP Fri Sep 25 06:37:23 UTC 2009 x86_64 GNU/Linux Ubuntu 2.6.31-11.36-generic ProblemType: Bug Architecture: amd64 AudioDevicesInUse: USERPID ACCESS COMMAND /dev/snd/controlC0: dave 1515 F pulseaudio /dev/snd/controlC1: dave 1515 F pulseaudio CRDA: Error: [Errno 2] No such file or directory Card0.Amixer.info: Card hw:0 'Intel'/'HDA Intel at 0xfdff8000 irq 16' Mixer name : 'Realtek ALC662 rev1' Components : 'HDA:10ec0662,1565,00100101' Controls : 33 Simple ctrls : 17 Card1.Amixer.info: Card hw:1 'MobilePre'/'M Audio MobilePre at usb-:00:1d.0-1, full speed' Mixer name : 'USB Mixer' Components : 'USB0763:200f' Controls : 10 Simple ctrls : 4 CheckboxCommand: gksudo $CHECKBOX_SHARE/scripts/cycle_vts CheckboxTest: chvt Date: Wed Oct 7 09:38:18 2009 DistroRelease: Ubuntu 9.10 HibernationDevice: RESUME=UUID=e6abee85-293e-4723-a816-69de0330d939 IwConfig: lono wireless extensions. eth0 no wireless extensions. eth1 no wireless extensions. I have a similar problem, but with an ATI RV516 XT Radeon X1600 Series (not Mobility). The problem is that the screen becomes black for about 1 second each n seconds. I think n is smaller when the windows are bigger. I noticed that problem with IRC software like xchat and kvirc, but also with the browser firefox in jaunty and in karmic. Also the speed of applications seems affected. I was not so patient to wait until the system becomes too slow to see what it happened after, but I got all this without running compiz nor other visual effects.
