[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 397617] Re: brightness no more working on karmic (KMS)

2009-10-23 Thread trtl
I have a NC10, BIOS 11CA, and cannot reproduce this problem. Out-of-the-box
clean install of beta2, then updated. Brightness keys just work.
If I can provide any information to further identify the bug, let me know.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 441825] Re: Acer Aspire One: OSD for brightness keys not working properly

2009-10-23 Thread Martin Pitt
Right, that shows it: It first tries the XBACKLIGHT extension:

TI:17:40:53 TH:0x840f168FI:gpm-brightness-xrandr.c
FN:gpm_brightness_xrandr_setup_display,170
 - No outputs have backlight property
TI:17:40:53 TH:0x840f168FI:gpm-brightness-xrandr.c
FN:gpm_brightness_xrandr_init,718
 - no XRANDR extension, so aborting init

but apparently your video driver doesn't support that. What video card
do you have?

g-p-m falls back to hal when xrandr doesn't work, but hal does not see
any panel either:

TI:17:40:53 TH:0x840f168FI:gpm-brightness-hal.c
FN:gpm_brightness_hal_init,462
 - No devices of capability laptop_panel

So apparently your brightness keys are hardwired, so that they work
without the operating system's support. But without detecting the
backlight device, g-p-m is unable to determine the current brightness
level and give a notification for it.

randomly. I am also using the default fonts (DejaVu) and anti-aliasing.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 384034] Re: OK, the envy thing gets it back to where it was in 8.10, one big desktop across two screens. I don't know that it will survive a reboot because I can't save the config

2009-10-23 Thread Brady Merriweather
Had the same problem. Even after first running gkksudo nvidia-settings.
it couldn't write to xorg.conf . Installed the binary install file form
nvidias website which compiled and worked around the issue.

OK, the envy thing gets it back to where it was in 8.10, one big desktop across
two screens. I don't know that it will survive a reboot because I can't save
the configuration. Of course, Ubuntu can run for months without rebooting.
There is a button to save it, but it won't let you unless you are root, and to
become root you have to call the thing from a terminal with the gksudo
(whatever it is called) command and I don't know what it is called. NVIDIA X
Server Settings is the title bar, but I doubt that is really it. If I try
that I just get this: p...@pete-desktop:~$ gksudo NVIDIA X Server Settings
p...@pete-desktop:~$ It asks for the password in between, but the NVIDIA X
Server Settings doesn't open. The xorg.conf does not reflect what is really
running: Section Screen IdentifierDefault Screen DefaultDepth
24 EndSection Section Module Loadglx Disabledri2
EndSection Section Device IdentifierDefault Device Driver
nvidia EndSection It should have all kinds of stuff in it about the dual
screens, twinview, xinerama and all that.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 458959] [NEW] Left click doesn'r work at log in

2009-10-23 Thread kallek
Public bug reported:

Left mouse click doesn't work. Already at the log in screen (gdm) it fails to
work. However, if I log in at a console an restart Xorg (killall Xorg), then
left click will work. Generally it will keep on working the entire session
after a Xorg restart. Although, the problem seems to be getting worse. The
problem started occurring in sporadically in Jaunty some weeks ago (earlier I
never had any problems). I did a fresh install of Karmic, hoping to get rid of
it, but it has gotten worse. I have tried a few times a xubuntu live cd (9.4)
that that has worked without problem. In addition, every time the left click
fails to work, alt+tab (shifting between windows) does too. However, the
keyboard is otherwise unaffected (as you can see, since this it written with a
non-functional mouse).
The gradual decline (problem slowly getting worse) suggests that it is some
hardware problem, but the fact that restarting Xorg fixes it suggest that it is
not. The computer is a 1 1/2 year old Lenovo Thinkpad T61.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 397617] Re: brightness no more working on karmic (KMS)

2009-10-23 Thread Philip Lowman
@Muharem and others

I didn't notice the comment about the bios update because I have been
following a duplicate bugreport where it wasn't mentioned and only just
recently switched to this one. Probably should have read all the
comments in this report before posting here, sorry about that.

I'll give the bios update a shot later today. It sounds promising based
on what others have said.

2009-10-23 Thread Jeffrey Elkner
I tried to file a bug report on a fatal error in karmic (both amd64 and
i386) for the package python-gasp. The reply came that it is a
duplicate of this bug. To reproduce it:

1. sudo apt-get install python-gasp (from universe)
2. from a python shell:
 from gasp import *
 begin_graphics()

This will cause python to die and give a core dump.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 421842] Re: screen corruption and segfaults with radeon m6 ly

2009-10-23 Thread je
Hi

just tested Karmic RC (live USB) on my Thinkpad x32 (ATI M6 LY).

With visual effects activated (default), artifacts appear quickly fill
the screen, which become unusable (as before). Notifications aren't
visible (white background with light artifacts) and the system monitor
is as mentionned before, tartan style.

Without visual effects, there aren't any artifact except for the
notifications/system monitor, which problem remains.

Conclusion: nothing new.

By the way, I tested Abiword without visual effects and typed some text
in it and didn't see any corruption.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 408397] Re: Win key as third level chooser doesn't work anymore

2009-10-23 Thread Šimánek
Pardon my ignorance, but will this patch be applied to Karmic? It seems
pretty important.

By the way, I checked the referenced Debian bug. They say it only
affects Gnome applications. This appears to be correct as I was able to
use the Win key to activate third and fourth level keys in Scribus (a
KDE/Qt app) while my Gnome/GTK apps all continue to ignore the use of
the Win key in reference to third level.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 390223] Re: Suspend causes logoff in Jaunty 9.04

2009-10-23 Thread aquasync
This happens to me too on jaunty, but only about 5% of the time upon
resume. I also have the same line in daemon.log:

rep gdm /var/log/daemon.log
Oct 23 20:10:06 perseus gdm[27647]: WARNING: gdm_slave_xioerror_handler: Fatal
X error - Restarting :0

The is on a Lenovo laptop, with intel graphics (GMA 4500 I believe).
Hopefully fixed in Karmic.

2009-10-23 Thread qneill
So is there an intrepid or jaunty workaround?
I have an RV280 [Radeon 9200 PRO] dual head running with intrepid and am seeing
this problem.
My setup works in the gdm login screen (one screen is blank, the other has the
gdm login, mouse pans across the monitors) but once gnume starts, both monitors
display the same contents.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 444123] Re: karmic beta live cd no display output (no X, no tty)

2009-10-23 Thread Kálmán , Ferenc
I have donloaded the latest RC version, but this version also not boots. The
boot process hangs with empty screen, and not responds to any key.
We consider this release candidate to be complete, stable, and suitable for
testing by any user.
:-) It is stable, but not working at all!

That's why you have a UNIX or Linux or BSD server for backups.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 458697] Re: [Karmic] Xorg crashed with SIGSEGV during gdm login with high resolutions

2009-10-23 Thread Simon Déziel
There is something really weird with that bug. The GDM login screen
always has the right resolution (even on high resolution screen) but the
Gnome session fails to start when I use a high resolution monitor. The
errors in /var/log/kern.log make me think that the driver wants to
allocate memory but it fails.

Could it be possible that the GDM login screen use a lower pixel depth
than what the Gnome sessions tries to use ?

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 214154] Re: Can't VSYNC properly on ATI (Mobility Radeon HD 2600 XT)

2009-10-23 Thread crep4ever
I've read again the post of Bryce Harrington and noted (lately) that I could
have forgotten to use a specific option.
As a non-gourou of kernel and xserver modules, can someone explain me a little
more precisely how to:
boot with the radeon.modeset=1 kernel option and how to install the version
from the ppa so that I can test this ?
Or maybe the option is now by default and in this case, the bug's still here.

Anyway, I thought that the kernel mode setting was being progressively
introduced and was not ready yet for radeon based on r7** such as
hd4850/hd4870 ... guess I was wrong :)

Sincerely,

Romain
