Public bug reported: Binary package hint: xorg After resume from suspend some of the programs that were running before lid was closed received white windows. [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 444139] Re: (Needs KMS) Background and full screen apps don't show up when Normal Visual Effects on (Radeon 7500)
Putting simply: Option AGPSize 32 as suggested by Tormod doesn't work for me. gnome-appeareance-properties refuses to switch desktop effects on. If I add: Option BusType PCI desktop effects can be enabled but gdm is unstable: the screen gets all black if I open a few firefox windows. Increasing AGPSize to 64 works but I get a kernel panic few minutes after logon if I open several windows. To have a stable system I have to put all the options below in the Device section: Section Device Driver ati Identifier Radeon 9200 Option BusType PCI Option AccelMethod EXA Option MigrationHeuristic greedy Option AGPSize 64 EndSection -- (Needs KMS) Background and full screen apps don't show up when Normal Visual Effects on (Radeon 7500) https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/444139 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is the registrant for xserver-xorg-driver-ati. ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp

OK, as before, I removed fglrx entirely, modified xorg.conf and rebooted. Finally, some success! I can now use Firefox in the native resolution. [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 478201] [NEW] GDM and subsequent sessions ignoring Xkb settings, startx from console works
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: xorg Hi, after doing a clean install of Karmic on my new laptop, I noticed a very annoying bug - all my Xkb settings are ignored. I normally use us keymap as my primary, and cz with qwerty variant as secondary and use both shift keys to switch between them. I tried using both /etc/default/console-setup: XKBMODEL=evdev XKBLAYOUT=us,cz XKBVARIANT=,qwerty XKBOPTIONS=grp:shift_toggle and XML file with appropriate keys in /etc/hal/fdi/policy (that worked in Jaunty): match key=info.capabilites contains=input.keys merge key=input.x11_options.XkbRules type=stringbase/merge merge key=input.x11_driver type=stringkbd/merge merge key=input.x11_options.XkbModel type=stringpc105/merge match key=/org/freedesktop/Hal/devices/computer:system.kernel.name string=Linux merge key=input.x11_driver type=stringevdev/merge merge key=input.x11_options.XkbModel type=stringevdev/merge /match merge key=input.x11_options.XkbLayout type=stringus,cz/merge merge key=input.x11_options.XkbOptions type=stringgrp:shift_toggle/merge merge key=input.x11_options.XkbVariant type=string,qwerty/merge /match n get this behaviour if I use for example xfce4-xkb-plugin, getting it to work with plain X11 (for example in OpenBox sessions) seems to be impossible. I'm reasonably sure this isn't wrong configuration on my part, because when booting to a console session and then doing startx, everything works as it should. If I however use a graphic login (GDM), they keyboard settings are busted - starting with the login screen (can't change keymap when entering my username). The keyboard settings get passed to X.org (they're shown in the xorg log), but ignored - doing setxkbmap -print results in: dra...@yarlagash:~$ setxkbmap -print xkb_keymap { xkb_keycodes { include evdev+aliases(qwerty) }; xkb_types { include complete }; xkb_compat{ include complete }; xkb_symbols { include pc+us+inet(evdev) }; xkb_geometry { include pc(pc104) }; }; After setting it manualy with setxkbmap -layout us,cz -variant ,qwerty -option grp:shift_toggle, it all works like I charm. I guess I coud work around this by calling setxkbmap at start of every session, but it doesn't sound like a kosher solution. I triggered this bug with both Ubuntu and Xubuntu, however I'm not sure if it didn't start manifesting only after apt-get install xubuntu-desktop in Ubuntu - I did a clean install afterwards to make sure this isn't a side-effect of the conversion. I checked that this is not a ThinkPad-oddity bug by installing Slackware 13 on the same machine - it works there just fine (KDM as a login manager there). [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 473114] Re: Iiyama monitor's native resolution does not display properly
Oh la la, finally! LOL! Anyway, about the no background no icon stuff, it's surely nautilus which didn't start, so when it happens, you just make Alt + F2 and you type nautilus in the launch an application. I guess the repetitive crashs of the xorg server, changed some stuff in the session preferences, and so that's why nautilus didn't start. Well, there is no error in your xorg.conf, only some little warnings which are not so important. Direct rendering is enabled, so it should be ok now. Ah yeah, just thinking about one thing for the slowness of the windows, just go in Système -- Préférences -- Apparence, check the visual effects and select Extra, then all your desktop and your windows will be handled directly by your graphic card by AIGLX, so it will be faster. Voilà, have a good sunday Anna. [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 473114] Re: Iiyama monitor's native resolution does not display properly
Good idea about Nautilus, but in fact it was running - I've attached a screenshot just to show it. Your tip about the Appearance/Visual Effects preferences helped discover a new problem :o) So, here are the steps I went through: Original state: xorg-radeon driver with Alexandre's latest xorg.conf, native res 1920x1080 in Karmic, display as shown in screenshot with Visual Effects prefs set at Normal. Slow windows on open/close/move. - Changed Visual Effects prefs to Extra. The windows became a bit faster, but still slower than before (meaning that they're slower than on Jaunty, and slower than with the fglrx driver on Karmic). - Changed Visual Effects back to Normal just to compare again, windows were indeed a bit slower than with Extra. - Changed Visual Effects to None. My background and icons appeared! (A screenshot for reference, I can only add one attachment, so it's a link to my site: http://www.fraise.net/images/PLE2407HDS-radeon-bg.jpg ) The important step, because it caused a session crash and threw me to the login screen (the crash was replicable): - Changed Visual Effects prefs from None to Normal. Ubuntu displayed the message Searching for drivers, then the session crashed. - I logged in and tried that step again. Second session crash, this time without the Searching for drivers message. - I logged in and, again, tried changing to Normal visual effects. This time no crash, but the background reverted to blank and a message asked me if I wanted to keep the changes (no... Visual Effects at None is more usable). Voilà. (Also, Alexandre, pas de soucis pour l'anglais ! Moi c'est l'inverse, je suis américaine et j'habite en France... pas toujours évident, les langues étrangères :) ) ** Attachment added: PLE2407HDS xorg-radeon, Karmic, Normal visual effects http://launchpadlibrarian.net/35361785/E2407HDS-radeon-screen.png -- Iiyama monitor's native resolution does not display properly https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/473114 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to xserver-xorg-video-ati in ubuntu. ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp

Re: [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 365943] Re: Mouse cursor jumps when two fingers are used
nh2, No problems! :) Yes, I think the bug is the same. I had not noticed the connection with the usage of two fingers. If you are using any brush (or eraser, etc.) in Gimp, you are holding down the left button and using another finger to paint with the brush. Then, bang it flies across the screen leaving a long streak across the picture. Luckily we have cntrl-Z, but it gets old pretty fast. it's not an xserver-xorg-video-intel related bug. cuz I tested different versions of intel drivers and system freezes ONLY on the latest kernel 2.6.31-14-generic on 2.6.28-13-generic it WORKS like a CHARM!! it defo to do with i915 kernel module, something wrong with it.. :-( also I noticed that latest intel driver which in karmic is kinda broken (gives me garbled screen when switching from X to console and back) so I'm using this: https://wiki.ubuntu.com/X/Troubleshooting/IntelPerformance#Reverting%20to%20the%20intrepid%20version%20of%20the%20driver also If you will add to boot options acpi=off than your system will work without ANY freezes, try that and report back, so AGAIN its defo something wrong with the kernel drivers :) -- [i965 X3100] X freezes randomly, only mouse pointer still functional https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/345119 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is the registrant for xf86-video-intel. ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp

@SM, Could this be of any help? (tormod) http://newyork.ubuntuforums.org/showpost.php?p=8091551postcount=1208 Please RTFM thank you ... No. Was it of any help to you? Fourthly, I cannot confirm now, but as I recall, when I had this intel 945 card on a non EDID compatible monitor, even if I manually configured Xorg.conf with a Monitor section, specifying decent refresh rates, this would be ignored, and I would still be limited to low resolution. I'll confirm that as soon as possible. And if this is the case, then the issue is with the driver ignoring the Monitor section, even if EDID information is not available. Obviously, what you had encountered, if confirmed, is not this bug. This bug's workaround, as stated in the OP, is specifying monitor properties in xorg.conf.
