[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 286424] Re: nvidia-settings crashes when user clicks Save To X Configuration File
I've been following this bug for quite a while and it is pretty clear that this is *NOT* a permissions problem. I've always run nvidia- settings with gksudo / sudo and the problem was always there. So please don't mark as fixed because of permissions. I have not tested this with the latest Karmic update but the program did crash when run with root privileges on a then-uptodate Karmic as late as last week. -- nvidia-settings crashes when user clicks Save To X Configuration File https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/286424 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to nvidia-settings in ubuntu. ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 273505] Re: crash of Xorg using xrandr
I saw this problem with Intrepid (9.04) on a Lenovo X301 with the Mobile Intel GMA 4500 MHD (integrated), but I haven't seen the problem since Jaunty (9.10). As a mobile laptop using I xrandr for different external screens and projectors a couple of times a day. The Xrandr applet has its quirks in 9.10, like putting the new confirmation/roll-back dialogue under its own window, but it doesn't crash the X server for me any more, which is fabulous. Following an xrandr change to a larger size a lot of applications can still act funny. Most notable is Firefox and Thunderbird, their auto- complete drop-list won't work expect inside the original (smaller) pre- xrandr screen size. Not sure if this is a ui toolkit issue or a missed/ignored screen size change notification. But presumably not related to this bug anyway. [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 477972] Re: [i855] Karmic / i855GM / Fujistu Siemens Amilo M7400 : Freeze shortly after X startup on Intel i855
Dan, we (and more importantly, upstream) have a policy of only one reporter per bug report. This is because xorg-bugs that look exactly the same can have different causes. It soon gets confusing when we have files from different reporters in the same bug report, especially if it turns out that the logs are incompatible. We appreciate your information, but we would prefer it in a separate bug report. If the issues turn out to be the same, it can be marked as a duplicate, which means that we have two linked bug reports of the same issue, but it is easy to keep track of which files come from where. There are already quite a few bug reports on 855GM freezes (see https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/xserver-xorg-video-intel/+bugs?field.tag=855gm%20freezefield.tags_combinator=ALL), but since you are providing high quality input (in a place where it is not very useful), it would be nice if we could have one from you as well. Please take a look at the other 855GM freeze bugs and take a look at the different tests that are useful and include that in your report (and the comments you made here). Make sure to make it a complete report with /var/log/Xorg.0.log, full dmesg output and output of `lspci -vvnn` as separate attachments. If you get all the information in there right away, we avoid a few rounds of back-and-forth communication and can put your information to use right away. -- [i855] Karmic / i855GM / Fujistu Siemens Amilo M7400 : Freeze shortly after X startup on Intel i855 https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/477972 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is the registrant for xf86-video-intel. ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 484164] [NEW] Maybe xorg.conf not peroperly interpreted? (Or I'm dense)
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: xorg I have an Nvidia card and two monitors. I can use this setup in TwinView flawlessly. I am trying to use it as two separate screens defined as Left and Right in my server layout section. Right runs my normal desktop, and Left a full-screen mythtv frontend. I am using the attached xorg.conf. It has the Right layout first (as default). And It works fine. I boot up and can log in using just the Right screen. Then, as root, I type the following: X :1 -layout Left to fire up the Left screen. Instead of starting the server using the Left configured screen and device it tries to take over the current Right screen. This fails with an error. See attached. I assume this should work. Perhaps not? I know I can use the server layout labeled Both - But I don't want Gnome to manage the Left screen at all. I want to place myth-frontend on it and use it as a TV. This is why I am attempting to start the Left section after login. There is probably a way to tell Gnome to ignore the screen and use the Both layout. I'm looking inti that now. However, I believe I should still be able to start another X server using the described scenario without a problem. Thanks. I get the issue sometimes when booting up, and sometimes when the computer has been left idle for a while (I don't know if that is just a coincidence). During the boot-up, I sometimes do get a non-blinking text cursor _ in the top-left corner when the computer freezes. I'm having a bit different HW, though: i830M. It also has the flicker issue (though maybe not identical with this bug report), which I've filed in the bug #477264. Here are a couple of patches that might help in the issue, but unfortunately I haven't so far had the time to apply them and compile the kernel in order to test if they help: http://lists.freedesktop.org/archives/intel-gfx/2009-September/004122.html http://lists.freedesktop.org/archives/intel-gfx/2009-September/004128.html -- [i865] karmic: 865g is pretty unstable https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/407587 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to xserver-xorg-video-intel in ubuntu. ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp
[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 448678] [NEW] Karmic: ThunderbirdXorg hog CPU
You have been subscribed to a public bug: Binary package hint: thunderbird Thunderbird has generally become very slow in Xubuntu Karmic Beta. * Bringing Thunderbird to the foreground or sending it to the background takes 2-3 seconds. Switching between other applications is slightly delayed when a part of Thunderbird's window is visible. * Opening a new message takes 4-5 seconds before it reacts to keyboard input * Even simple message boxes (like the one that asks you if you want to save a message you're closing) take 2-3 seconds to appear. * Sometimes (but not always), when bringing Thunderbird to the foreground, the message list or the contents of a message will appear, then disappear and load again. * Sometimes (but not always) typing is slow when not at the end of the paragraph. Characters are displayed with a delay of 1-2 seconds. Switching between other applications (OpenOffice, Xfce4-terminal, Thunar, Firefox...) is lightning fast, as usual in Xubuntu. In Jaunty or any previous version I ever used, Thunderbird did never have that problem. Hardware: IBM Laptop Thinkpad T42, ~1.7 GHz, 700something MB RAM (usage during the test 50%), 3GB swap (only a couple of MB used during the test). CPU load gets very high when switching from/to Thunderbird. The Xorg process (not thunderbird-bin!) uses 80-90% for several seconds. This is not at all the case when using other applications. Anything I can do to help you find the cause? [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 484294] [NEW] [RV100] Dot and line artifacts intermittently appearing around text.
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: xserver-xorg-video-ati The comment at the end of bug 366224 said to open a new bug if I was having that issue, so here it is. The corruption shows up most readily in Firefox, but I've seen it in gedit and gnome-terminal as well. It looks like the attachment, though it's not there all the time, and it's not always as dense as it is there; that's just a particularly good example. I can sometimes make it go away temporarily by forcing the text to rerender--selecting and deselecting text, or paging up and down in Firefox. Public bug reported: -BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE- Hash: SHA1 affects ubuntu/libxt status confirmed importance wishlist subscribe ubuntu-archive done Please sync libxt 1:1.0.6-1 (main) from Debian testing (main) Explanation of the Ubuntu delta and why it can be dropped: - -Wl,-Bsymbolic-functions filter was added in Debian 1:1.0.6-1 Changelog entries since current lucid version 1:1.0.5-3ubuntu1: libxt (1:1.0.6-1) unstable; urgency=low [ Julien Cristau ] * New upstream release. * Don't export dependencies on libSM and libX11 in the Requires field of xt.pc. They're already in Requires.private, and do more harm than good in Requires. Thanks to Stephen Gran and Margarita Manterola for noticing. * Remove Branden from Uploaders with his permission. * Don't build-depend on packages with a -1 debian revision. * Bump Standards-Version to 3.7.3. * Drop the XS- prefix from Vcs-* control fields. * Drop (pre-)dependencies on x11-common from libxt6 and libxt6-dbg, that's not needed. * Use ${binary:Version} instead of ${Source-Version}. * Remove pre-dependency on x11-common from libxt-dev, that was needed for upgrades from sarge. * Parse space-separated DEB_BUILD_OPTIONS. * Allow parallel builds. * Run autoreconf on build. * Remove patch 01_use_extern_C_in_headers.diff, applied upstream. * Use --with-xfile-search-path rather than setting XFILESEARCHPATHDEFAULT through CFLAGS directly. * Stop passing -include X11/XlibConf.h in CFLAGS; this was a hack introduced in 1:0.99.0+cvs.20050803-1, and unneeded since the upstream fix on Sep 24, 2005. * Cherry-pick patch from upstream git to link against libICE. [ Brice Goglin ] * Add a link to www.X.org and a reference to the upstream module in the long description. * Add upstream URL to debian/copyright. * Add README.source, bump Standards-Version to 3.8.3. * Use updated xsfbs, closes: #538592. * Move -dbg package to section debug. [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 305301] Re: [RC410] Xpress 200M hangs when resuming from suspend with DRI (needs KMS)
I tried rc7 too and it gave me a system lock with kms immediately. So I cannot say anything about the suspend problem here, sorry :( I do not understand what subchee means about the radeon as a loadable module. It alway is, isn't it? It is build with the kernel together with hundreds of other ones... As far as the atheros module is concerned, I use the madwifi, which is supposed to be build outside of the kernel compilation. And every time for a custom kernel I have to compile it separately from source, not a big deal though.
