You have been subscribed to a public bug: Binary package hint: gdm The mouse pointer jumps all over the screen(s) even without applications running. [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 477915] Re: AisleRiot Solitaire Crashes GNOME! ... Ubuntu goes to login GDM screen
Some more observations. I've noticed that the memory usage of the sol process grows slowly over time, starting at 33M virtual 16M resident and rising to 44M virtual 26M resident just before crashing. Also, I just had it crash in a slightly different way. After running sol for a while I switch to another app to check memory usage and it crashed at that point. Once X had restarted I found a core dump of the app I'd switch to (a program of my own). The core dump showed an assert failure in _XAllocID() (libX11:xcb_io.c:378) assert (ret != inval_id); -- AisleRiot Solitaire Crashes GNOME! ... [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 487575] [NEW] xvfb depends on HAL and fails to start
Public bug reported: xvfb is a utility for running test suites on machines with no physical keyboard / monitor (i.e. no running XServer). For details, see: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Xvfb Using karmic, when I launch Xvfb :1 I get these errors: (EE) config/hal: NewInputDeviceRequest failed (2) (EE) config/hal: NewInputDeviceRequest failed (2) (EE) config/hal: NewInputDeviceRequest failed (2) (EE) config/hal: NewInputDeviceRequest failed (2) ...if I instead try Xvfb :9 then I get this error: [dix] Could not init font path element /usr/share/fonts/X11/cyrillic, removing from list! [config/dbus] couldn't take over org.x.config: org.freedesktop.DBus.Error.AccessDenied (Connection :1.7990 is not allowed to own the service org.x.config.display9 due to security policies in the configuration file) (EE) config/hal: NewInputDeviceRequest failed (2) (EE) config/hal: NewInputDeviceRequest failed (2) (EE) config/hal: NewInputDeviceRequest failed (2) (EE) config/hal: NewInputDeviceRequest failed (2) ...so I guess xvfb is broken in karmic. Re: [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 487361] Re: nvidia 7600GS does not boot from install cd or from first boot
Bryce, I do not think this bug should go to the nvidia graphic drivers 180 group as that is not where the problem lies. The problem is with the default xorg driver at boot of the CD of karmic and if I use the text installer which I did after the first problem with booting from the cd the computer will not get to an active xorg display on first boot. This is a function of the original graphics driver installed by the karmic final release medium. So I think the problem is there. [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 312756] Re: support graphics card hot switch
Have you guys tried specifying BusID in your xorg.conf? BusID bus-id This specifies the bus location of the graphics card. For PCI/AGP cards, the bus-id string has the form PCI:bus:device:function (e.g., PCI:1:0:0 might be appropriate for an AGP card). This field is usually optional in single-head configurations when using the primary graphics card. In multi-head configurations, or when using a sec- ondary graphics card in a single-head configuration, this entry is mandatory. Its main purpose is to make an unambiguous connection between the device section and the hardware it is representing. This information can usually be found by running the pciaccess tool scanpci. -- support graphics card hot switch https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/312756 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to xorg-server in ubuntu. ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp
[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 312756] Re: support graphics card hot switch
Ew, that's horrible formatting on the last comment. Anyway, see `man xorg.conf` and scroll down to the Device section for more information. Anyway, it might take some xorg.conf fiddling, but it should work. You may want to create two Device sections, one for each card, and then list the one you want to use in your ServerLayout section. I don't know if you need to specify the monitor as well, but perhaps not. Not sure that xorg is ever going to be able to automatically detect which of the devices should be desired... at least, not until the kernel supports monitor load detection. Meanwhile, I'll leave this bug open in case we want to put in an extra xorg.conf option to help specify which of the devices to autoconfigure. Currently xserver assumes the boot gfx device is the primary and preferred one to fire up, which unfortunately in this case means not the nvidia chip. In a lot of hardware the BIOS allows you to turn on/off the integrated video card, I guess with this hardware that option is just not available. -- support graphics card hot switch https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/312756 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to xorg-server in ubuntu. ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 335678] Re: Failsafe X troubleshooting dialogs not translatable
Although I agree that using Python would make things easier for internationalisation, in the meantime I'm attaching a patch to complete the current package's i18n support. A few notes: * The current sources already had gettext calls in debian/local/Failsafe/failsafeXinit. Apart from modifying some of those calls, basically what remained to be done was to extract the strings from that source file and put them in a POT template. This POT template is now generated during the package build, so that it can be imported into Launchpad. * I do not know of any standard approach to gettextizing shell files (intltool does not support them, so I had to use xgettext directly), so I've used a POTFILES.in file in a similar way to intltool-based packages. There might be more elegant approaches, but this should give you an idea of what is needed. * My Debian packaging skills are limited, so if the modifications in debian/rules are not appropriate, let me know and I'll fix it. * This patch needs testing. ** Attachment added: Failsafe i18n support http://launchpadlibrarian.net/36038916/xorg_7.4%2B3ubuntu10.debdiff ** Changed in: xorg (Ubuntu) Status: Incomplete = Confirmed -- Failsafe X troubleshooting dialogs not translatable https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/335678 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to xorg in ubuntu. ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp
