[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 487269] [NEW] Mouse is going haywire.

2009-11-24 Thread Launchpad Bug Tracker
You have been subscribed to a public bug:

Binary package hint: gdm

The mouse pointer jumps all over the screen(s) even without applications
running. Mouse movements cause random jumps, of varying magnitudes, in
varying directions. This appears to be unaffected by the mouse control
settings and is getting progressively worse. This happens with 2
different USB mice. This may (or not) be connected to a general system
debility with everything (e.g. Firefox) slowing to an unacceptable
degree. System Monitor doesn't indicate any demanding processes or
resource usage.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 477915] Re: AisleRiot Solitaire Crashes GNOME! ... Ubuntu goes to login GDM screen

2009-11-24 Thread Brian Havard
Some more observations. I've noticed that the memory usage of the sol
process grows slowly over time, starting at 33M virtual 16M resident and
rising to 44M virtual 26M resident just before crashing.

Also, I just had it crash in a slightly different way. After running sol
for a while I switch to another app to check memory usage and it crashed
at that point. Once X had restarted I found a core dump of the app I'd
switch to (a program of my own). The core dump showed an assert failure
in _XAllocID() (libX11:xcb_io.c:378) assert (ret != inval_id);

Hi Bryce,
this might be helpful.

I am now not using Ubuntu (nor Mint or OpenSuse) for the reason that my

Gforce 6150 onboard GPU. However, it is high time for me to change this
motherboard and when I do I will test Ubuntu again because I really thought
highly of this distro apart from this its (to me now too serious) bug.

not shown in this Xorg.0.log. Please see
http://wiki.ubuntu.com/X/Troubleshooting/ for guidance on collecting and
analyzing the edid to see if the error can be spotted.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 487575] [NEW] xvfb depends on HAL and fails to start

2009-11-24 Thread Martin Olsson
Public bug reported:

xvfb is a utility for running test suites on machines with no physical keyboard
/ monitor (i.e. no running XServer).
For details, see: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Xvfb

Using karmic, when I launch Xvfb :1 I get these errors:

(EE) config/hal: NewInputDeviceRequest failed (2)
(EE) config/hal: NewInputDeviceRequest failed (2)
(EE) config/hal: NewInputDeviceRequest failed (2)
(EE) config/hal: NewInputDeviceRequest failed (2)

...if I instead try Xvfb :9 then I get this error:

[dix] Could not init font path element /usr/share/fonts/X11/cyrillic, removing
from list!
[config/dbus] couldn't take over org.x.config:
org.freedesktop.DBus.Error.AccessDenied (Connection :1.7990 is not allowed to
own the service org.x.config.display9 due to security policies in the
configuration file)

(EE) config/hal: NewInputDeviceRequest failed (2)
(EE) config/hal: NewInputDeviceRequest failed (2)
(EE) config/hal: NewInputDeviceRequest failed (2)

...so I guess xvfb is broken in karmic. And I suspect it will become
even more borked in lucid given the migration away from hal.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 476319] Re: X cannot start after upgrade to Karmic

2009-11-24 Thread Massimiliano Ballerini
Tried today to switch again to nvidia proprietary driver after new
kernel release, the behaviour is the same. This problem still isn't
solved.

Confirmed that nvidia-96-kernel-source is to be purged if you want to
restore situation to mesa nv driver. This means actually the nvidia
proprietary module LOADS on the kernel.

Could be a xserver compatibility issue?

I had a HDMI to HDMI cable connected first, this was causing the screen

Strange. The EDID block is contained in both Xorg.0.log and `xrandr

 it somehow.

Except for the 2-3 second blanking, is the system working properly?

Re: [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 487361] Re: nvidia 7600GS does not boot from install cd or from first boot

2009-11-24 Thread karlrhs
Bryce,

I do not think this bug should go to the nvidia graphic drivers 180 group as
that is not where the problem lies. The problem is with the default xorg
driver at boot of the CD of karmic and if I use the text installer which I
did after the first problem with booting from the cd the computer will not
get to an active xorg display on first boot. This is a function of the
original graphics driver installed by the karmic final release medium. So I
think the problem is there.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 308191] Re: Multi fingers touch doesn't be correctly recognized

doing

synclient EmulateTwoFingerMinZ=10

works fine for me with Karmic (fresh install of final release) on a
EEEPC 1005HA. I had to fiddle with the different EmulateTwoFingerXXX
settings in earlier releases but since Karmic-final the defaults are ok
for me apart from the MinZ setting.

What is the proposed way of saving that setting in the system? Is
/etc/hal/fdi/policy the right place as HAL is supposedly no longer
there?

1:2.2.5-1ubuntu7~tormod package and mouse behaves normally now.

For the programs like UT and DOSBOX there is no more jumping mouse
problem. As far as my system is concerned, the bug is fixed completely.
Thanks a lot!

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 312756] Re: support graphics card hot switch

2009-11-24 Thread Bryce Harrington
Have you guys tried specifying BusID in your xorg.conf?

  BusID bus-id
This specifies the bus location of the graphics card. For
PCI/AGP cards, the bus-id
  string has the form PCI:bus:device:function (e.g., PCI:1:0:0
might be appropriate
for an AGP card). This field is usually optional in single-head
configurations when
using the primary graphics card. In multi-head configurations,
or when using a sec-
ondary graphics card in a single-head configuration, this
entry is mandatory. Its
main purpose is to make an unambiguous connection between the
device section and the
hardware it is representing. This information can usually be
found by running the
  pciaccess tool scanpci.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 312756] Re: support graphics card hot switch

2009-11-24 Thread Bryce Harrington
Ew, that's horrible formatting on the last comment. Anyway, see `man
xorg.conf` and scroll down to the Device section for more information.

Anyway, it might take some xorg.conf fiddling, but it should work. You
may want to create two Device sections, one for each card, and then list
the one you want to use in your ServerLayout section. I don't know if
you need to specify the monitor as well, but perhaps not.

Not sure that xorg is ever going to be able to automatically detect
which of the devices should be desired... at least, not until the kernel
supports monitor load detection. Meanwhile, I'll leave this bug open in
case we want to put in an extra xorg.conf option to help specify which
of the devices to autoconfigure. Currently xserver assumes the boot gfx
device is the primary and preferred one to fire up, which unfortunately
in this case means not the nvidia chip. In a lot of hardware the BIOS
allows you to turn on/off the integrated video card, I guess with this
hardware that option is just not available.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 335678] Re: Failsafe X troubleshooting dialogs not translatable

2009-11-24 Thread David Planella
Although I agree that using Python would make things easier for
internationalisation, in the meantime I'm attaching a patch to complete
the current package's i18n support.

A few notes:

* The current sources already had gettext calls in
debian/local/Failsafe/failsafeXinit. Apart from modifying some of those
calls, basically what remained to be done was to extract the strings
from that source file and put them in a POT template. This POT template
is now generated during the package build, so that it can be imported
into Launchpad.

* I do not know of any standard approach to gettextizing shell files
(intltool does not support them, so I had to use xgettext directly), so
I've used a POTFILES.in file in a similar way to intltool-based
packages. There might be more elegant approaches, but this should give
you an idea of what is needed.

* My Debian packaging skills are limited, so if the modifications in
debian/rules are not appropriate, let me know and I'll fix it.

* This patch needs testing.

The open driver seems to be limited in that I can no longer switch to my

Back to Windows XP for now I guess...

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 366222] Re: kubuntu jaunty hangs completely while using mouse

2009-11-24 Thread Roger
Hi,

I was suffering the same problem since I've installed the Jaunty final
version. I have an AMD x3 over and MSI mother with and Nvidia (from
MSI).

I'm new in Linux. :(

I tried reconfiguring the mouse in the xorg because when I run Xinput it
shows me two devices one Macintosh that I don't know why and an Imwheel
PS2 mouse (the one that I'm using).

Usually the freeze problem became when I start the Nvidia 180 driver.
But they have not a pattern.

Would somebody can help me?

Regards.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 482277] Re: [xorg-edgers] Radeon dri2 not working with kernel 2.6.32rc7

2009-11-24 Thread bjaglin
I have the same problem with a Radeon Mobility 9000 (RV250). When
booting on ubuntu kernel ppa 2.6.32-rc7+ or 2.6.31-drm-next with
modesetting enabled via options radeon modeset=1, dri can't be
enabled, and X is switching back to Software Rasterizer. I have tried
the stock drivers/mesa, the ubuntu-x, and the xorg-edgers ppa. All these
packages work fine on 2.6.31-14. After some research, I ended up trying
the ideas tormod suggested on #radeon (fbcon loaded earlier) :
http://www.radeonhd.org/?page=archive_displayc=radeonm=10y=2009d=2009-10-28,
but none of them fixed the problem.

I need recent KMS because of #444139 and other freezes/crashes when
using DRI1, and #413259 which was fixed in 2.6.32 as far as I can see.
Anything I can post/try ?

2009-11-24 Thread David Kelly
New freeze info for today attached

I am now going through the troubleshooting steps from
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/X/Troubleshooting/Freeze. Here is what I have
tried so far:

Compiz is already disabled
I believe AccelMethod and Accel options are ignored by this chipset, so I
skipped these
I tried disabling DRI but only got a black screen, so I turned it back on
After today's freeze I added Option AIGLX Off to disable OpenGL indirect
rendering acceleration.
I'll try this for a few days and see how it goes.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 303224] Re: garbled Emacs display when running under compiz with nvidia drivers

2009-11-24 Thread draimus
Since reinstalling my Thinkpad T61P with Karmic and the nVidia 185
driver I have not seen the garbled display issue at all. I've also
bought a new computer with an integrated nVidia card and that also shows
no problems. I'll be unsubscribing myself from this issue.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 462393] Re: [Karmic] Sony Vaio VGN-C260E laptop freezes when external monitor is plugged in

2009-11-24 Thread Sean Davis
Madison,

The metacity --replace command actually worked. Thanks!

As a side note, I'm getting some weird error messages when I execute the
compiz --replace command. Any ideas (see output below)?

however, I am able to configure my external monitor properly...
