[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 491483] Re: afte recent update which included xorg, xserver etc causes low-graphics mode error at start

2009-12-03 Thread Peter Soetens
The full error is actually:

(II) AIGLX: Screen 0 is not DRI2 capable
drmOpenDevice: node name is /dev/dri/card0
drmOpenDevice: open result is 12, (OK)
drmOpenByBusid: Searching for BusID pci::02:00.0
drmOpenDevice: node name is /dev/dri/card0
drmOpenDevice: open result is 12, (OK)
drmOpenByBusid: drmOpenMinor returns 12
drmOpenByBusid: drmGetBusid reports pci::02:00.0
(EE) AIGLX error: dlopen of /usr/lib/dri/r600_dri.so failed
(/usr/lib/dri/r600_dri.so: cannot open shared object file: No such file or
directory)
(EE) AIGLX: reverting to software rendering
(II) AIGLX: Loaded and initialized /usr/lib/dri/swrast_dri.so

Found in Xorg.0.log

Ironically, I think that the bug is the 'low graphics mode' popup
itself, and not so much the missing file since I don't run the non-
free/fglrx drivers. This (EE) error was probably always present in my
logs, but never triggered the popup before.

2009-12-03 Thread Michael Ummels
Do you use KDM or GDM as login manager? I suspect, this is a problem
with upstart introduced by the following patch introduced in xorf
1:7.4+3ubuntu8:

xorg (1:7.4+3ubuntu8) karmic-proposed; urgency=low

  * debian/local/Failsafe/failsafe{XServer,Xinit},
debian/x11-common.failsafe-x.upstart: convert Bulletproof-X support over
to upstart, for compatibility with gdm in karmic. LP: #474806.
  * debian/rules: install the new upstart job with dh_installinit.
  * debian/control: bump the debhelper versioned build-dependency for the
same

It seems that reverting x11-common to version 7.4+3ubuntu7 by sudo apt-
get install x11-common=7.4+3ubuntu7 makes the bug go away again.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 41301] Re: Mouse clicks stop working sporadically

2009-12-03 Thread Philipp Sprunger
I also agree with Jethro_UK TaxAlien, this is really a showstopper...

As far as I know Steven Harms did a bugfix in Feb 2009 (!!!) [See comment #78]
but nobody took it into rep and did a rebuild?
What do I have to do? Rebuid the whole Xorg myself? how can I do that?

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 491854] [NEW] Sync libxxf86vm 1:1.1.0-1 (main) from Debian experimental (main).

2009-12-03 Thread Timo Aaltonen
Public bug reported:

Please sync libxxf86vm 1:1.1.0-1 (main) from Debian experimental (main).

Explanation of the Ubuntu delta and why it can be dropped:

The only change is running autoreconf on the package, and it does it now
on build, so can be synced.

Changelog since current lucid version 1:1.0.2-1ubuntu1:

libxxf86vm (1:1.1.0-1) experimental; urgency=low

  [ Timo Aaltonen ]
  * New upstream release.
  * Run autoreconf on build. Add build-deps on automake, libtool and
xutils-dev.
  * Parse space-separated DEB_BUILD_OPTIONS, and handle parallel=N.
  * Bump Standards-Version to 3.8.3.
  * Drop pre-dependency on x11-common from libxx86vm-dev. This was needed
for upgrades from sarge.
  * Add includes in -dev, bump {Build-,}Depends, add Replaces on
x11proto-xf86vidmode-dev.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 278112] Re: Screensaver doesn't start

2009-12-03 Thread Alex
This bug still affects me. I'm using Karmic Koala.

I can solve the problem by a reboot or by clicking on the screensaver-
preview. When I've done this, the screensaver works fine.

2009-12-03 Thread Manish
Using KDM as login manager. I can check using GDM but I do not want to
switch to GDM as I use kubuntu more.

Michael Ummels yes I tried reverting the package it worked well for 1
boot but did not work further. Also I need to install ATI catalyst
driver for desktop effects. I don't think this driver has anything to do
with this error as before updating it was working fine (with
acpi_services=off option).

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 448678] Re: Karmic: ThunderbirdXorg hog CPU

2009-12-03 Thread Chris Pappas
I am experiencing this problem on my home computer: Fresh install of
9.10 Karmic (GNOME), Athlon 2400+, 1GB DDR, Radeon All-In-Wonder 9600xt
with Visual Effects turned off (None).

Thunderbird is very sluggish, user interface is drawn slowly and there
are 1-2 second delays before the interface responds when using any
buttons or other elements. Network throughput seems to be OK, it's no
faster or slower than usual to send or receive messages with attachments
etc.

I have another partition on this same computer with Ubuntu 9.04 but no
problems with Thunderbird - it performs quickly and there are no delays
or UI slowness.

On my work computer: 3.00 GHz Intel C2D, 1GB, Intel integrated graphics
(945 series I think?) with Visual Effects turned off (None), Ubuntu
9.10 upgrade from 9.04, I haven't noticed any problems although this is
a much faster machine in general.

I will attempt the Xorg.conf thing and post my results. Are there any
log files etc. that I could post and would be helpful for diagnosing and
fixing this problem?

I just noticed that after making this change, Firefox has increased

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 490031] Re: Radeon 9250 no 3D.

2009-12-03 Thread Walter Kerkhofs
I don't think so, I did not change anything in the BIOS.

After I installed the updates for KDE 4.3.4 and rebooted, I landed in
the console so I did:

Start x

and Gnome started up, so I booted the rescue system and edited the xorg.conf
file by hand with Joe.
I changed the driver too Radeon, and rebooted again.
This time I had to chose the console and KDE started up fine.

In the past I had also put the AGPmode option in this file, but when I tried
this I landed in a black screen.
In Jaunty the xorg.conf file was empty, and 3D with compiz worked just fine.

Greetings

Walter Kerkhofs

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 488850] [NEW] The cursor is multiplied when Writer looses focus. Then it is difficult to write because it leaves cursor clones and it is difficult to read what you've written

2009-12-03 Thread Launchpad Bug Tracker
You have been subscribed to a public bug:

Binary package hint: openoffice.org

When I swap between windows and then go back to OpenOffice Writer and
start writing the cursor instead of being displaced simply is cloned, so
multiple cursors are generated after a line of writing. This makes the
written text difficult to read. If you minimize and maximize the Writer
then it is gone but if it loses focus it comes up again.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 465317] Re: Xorg assert failure: X: ../../src/i830_batchbuffer.h:79: intel_batch_emit_dword: Assertion `pI830-batch_ptr != ((void *)0)' failed.

2009-12-03 Thread Dave Uggla
Thanks for the suggestion.

You first install the normal System Monitor Applet which is associated
with the full detail System Monitor, and by default displays only CPU
Utilization. Then right click it, open Preferences and check the
Memory box and any others you might find interesting. When you mouse
over the memory display you will see the different percentages.

This is described on the second page of the information at the link
supplied by wizwiz50.

I am not sure what the rationale is for showing some details in the
Panel which do not seem to be available in the full display.

Based on his comments, I also plan to remove the System Monitor applet
and see if it has any effect on the AisleRiot-induced crash.
