[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 496653] Re: Compiz very slow using Kernel-Modesetting with Radeon driver on AGP hardware

2009-12-18 Thread Hebert
At this present time, I'm already using the xorg-edgers PPA, but just
like Lucid archive packages, to no help.

I believe you're also the PPA's maintainer. Right?

It doesn't help to use radeon.agpmode=-1 Only nomodeset does, but I lose
all the goods KMS brings on.

I'm available to further help.

Let's hope we can sort this bug out fast.

Thanks

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 462393] Re: [Karmic] Sony Vaio VGN-C260E laptop freezes when external monitor is plugged in

2009-12-18 Thread Mikko Rönkkö
I have the same problem with Lenovo X60. Changing monitor configuration
when desktop effects are enables causes the display to freeze. I only
get a black screen with a cursor that does not move. The only way to get
out from this lock is to reboot the computer.

I can SSH to the machine, so other than the frozen display, things seem
to be OK. I will add some logs.

2009-12-18 Thread pakore
I switched compiz off, I reverted to xserver-xorg-video-intel-2.4 and I
decided to never hibernate or suspend. And freezes still happen everyday
or so.

Now I'm with Linux ubuntu 2.6.31-17-generic #54-Ubuntu SMP Thu Dec 10
17:01:44 UTC 2009 x86_64 GNU/Linux

in an Acert TravelMate5730 with driver i915 for:

Integrated Graphics Controller (rev 07)
00:02.1 Display controller: Intel Corporation Mobile 4 Series Chipset
Integrated Graphics Controller (rev 07)

When it freezes, I cannot login from another machine, so I cannot get a
dump : (.

It would be possible to apply the workaround in the package's postinst

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 498211] [NEW] ATI graphics driver fails to load

2009-12-18 Thread WaywardGeek
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: xorg

This problem may be specific to Lucid on my laptop: a Dell Studi 1557,
with quad i7 CPU and ATI graphics acceleration. Using
Sytem/Administration/Hardware Drivers, an ATI driver is found, which I
installed. Once enabled, I rebooted. When the X server started, the
screen was garbled, and then switched to low-resolution mode for
recovery, at which point I disabled the ATI graphics driver. This
driver is especially important as the default driver does not manage
power in the ATI graphics card, which heats the machine and runs the fan
on high at all times. Also, the default driver does not support OpenGL
on this machine.

I've attached jockey.log, which seems to show some problems. If anyone
has suggestions on how to proceed, I'd be happy to help debug this on my
machine.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 494627] Re: nv driver crashing with segmentation fault in libpthread.so.0

2009-12-18 Thread André Barmasse
I am not sure if this is exactly related to your problems, but maybe it
can help other people to get the nvidia driver working with Lucid Lynx
Alpha 1, although I am sure that the X.org/Nvidia problem will be solved
with one of the next alpha versions.

I have just upgraded to Lucid Lynx Alpha 1. When I try to install
nvidia-glx-185, nvidia-glx-173 or nvidia-glx-96 synaptic wants to remove
the xserver completely. The installation of nvidia-glx-180 is possible
but the driver does not work the next time you reboot. Neither does the
nvidia-glx-195 driver form the PPA repository. By the way, my card is a
GeForce Go 6200/6400.

Same issue when I go to the console, kill gdm and install a freshly
downloaded nvidia driver (190 or 195). If then I restart gdm, the nvidia
driver is working fine for the time the computer is running. After the
next reboot the nvidia driver is not loaded.

I have detected a strange workaround. First, I have removed all nvidia
related stuff, and all xserver-xorg-video- drivers (including xserver-
xorg-video-all), leaving ONLY xserver-xorg-video-nv installed. Then I
have switched to the console, killed gdm, and installed the beta driver
NVIDIA-Linux-x86-195.22-pkg1.run. From now on, when I start or reboot,
there is no gdm. But when I log in, and start gdm manually, the nvidia
driver works like a charm every time.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 479888] Re: Touchpad working erratically

2009-12-18 Thread BadBobbyBarnes
It's not just the touchpad that works erratically. Same problem happens
when I connect a wired USB mouse. Problem is same on my existing
installation, which was upgraded from 9.04 to 9.10, and also on a fresh
9.10 install from a 9.10 64-bit iso download.

There was no such problem when I was running 9.04 and prior versions. I
suggest this is a conflict between the mouse/touchpad driver and the
graphics driver. The laptop is an HP Pavillion DV2275EA with integrated
Intel 945GM graphics (shared RAM)

Please help - I cannot use Ubuntu on this laptop and am forced to revert
to Windows!!!

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 498287] [NEW] session active, not inhibited, screen idle

2009-12-18 Thread Matt Drake
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: xorg

as described here http://blogs.gnome.org/hughsie/2009/08/17/gnome-power-
manager-and-blanking-removal-of-bodges/ xorg needs to be patched to
allow gpm to effectively read idle info from xorg.

sometimes, the screen will blank while i am using my comp, and upon
moving the mouse, the brightness is very low and a icon in the
notification area has a tooltip that says session active, not
inhibited, screen idle. If you can see this text, your display server is
broken and you should notify your distributor.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 482456] Re: Corrupt video leaving graphics mode

2009-12-18 Thread Javon Simons
I also loaded 190.53 from Nvidia and the same thing happens. I have an
HP DV7 with Intel i7 core (not sure if that matters). It has the GT
230M video card. I am using Ubuntu 9.10 with compiz enabled. I cannot
shutdown, restart, hibernate, close the laptop, etc, without seeing the
fuzzy issue. I hope someone can figure this out. I have tried changing
xorg, drivers, blacklisting drivers and updating drivers. Nothing works

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 497954] Re: Random full screen flash then xorg-server crash back to login screen

2009-12-18 Thread Jerry
I don't know if this has anything to do with this problem, but I keep wondering
if it was from gdm? So, went to a virtual console (ctl+alt+f1), logged in and
did a 'sudo /etc/init.d/gdm stop', to stop the login screen. Then I started X
via 'startx'. I thought I might atleast see any messages that may helped.
Anyway, That has been 6 hours and it has had the 'flicker then crash' since.
However, X did freeze up one time. The mouse still moved around but would not
do anything. The activity wheel on opera mail way downloading and that and the
mouse moving was the only functions that was moving.
I tried a ctl+alt+backspace and did nothing. I had to go back to the virtual
console I started and did ctl+c and then started X again. Still working so for
without gdm running.
I look at the logs for gdm and found this:

(gnome-settings-daemon:11606): GLib-CRITICAL **: g_propagate_error: assertion

2009-12-18 Thread Bob Blizard
Ubuntu seems to be behaving itself today, after I installed the latest
Firefox version (3.5.6). I'm going to save this email and see what
happens over the next couple of days. If I get another freeze I'll put
this new version on.

I'll keep you posted.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 460505] [NEW] Ubuntu 9.10 (Karmic) - ATI x1250 - Slow fullscreen video when compiz activated

2009-12-18 Thread Launchpad Bug Tracker
You have been subscribed to a public bug:

Hello,

I have a HP 6715b laptop with an ATI x1250 video card. I also use an
external 22 monitor connected to the VGA port of my laptop. I have set
the screen resolution to 1400x900 in Gnome Display Settings.

The driver I use is the ATI one from the Ubuntu repositories.

When I play fullscreen videos with VLC, SMplayer or else, without having Compiz
running, it just works flawlessly, without seeming to freeze to calculate the
image.
But when Compiz is on, fullscreen videos get a lot slower. It is impossible to
watch a movie this way.

Another thing is that the desktop effects get really slow when it comes
to fullscreen windows: menus scroll down rather slowly, the windows
close effects is not smooth.

I have reinstalled Karmic Koala in its RC version and that problem isn't
going away...

My xorg.conf file is the original one, I have not tweaked it in any
way...

Hope anyone else could reproduce this bug!
Thanks.

Chris

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 460505] Re: Ubuntu 9.10 (Karmic) - ATI x1250 - Slow fullscreen video when compiz activated

2009-12-18 Thread Kamus
Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make
Ubuntu better. This bug did not have a package associated with it, which
is important for ensuring that it gets looked at by the proper
developers. You can learn more about finding the right package at
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Bugs/FindRightPackage , so I have classified
this bug as a bug in xserver-xorg-video-ati package.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 496653] Re: [KMS][RV530] compiz very slow on AGP hardware

2009-12-18 Thread Hebert
Let re-post it:

I tested using radeon.modeset=1 radeon.agpmode=8 on the linux kernel
2.6.32-996-generic_2.6.32-996.200912181514_amd64 and
2.6.33-999-generic_2.6.33-999.200912181148_amd64

Compiz on both kernels don't work.

$ compiz --replace
compiz (core) - Fatal: Software rendering detected.
compiz (core) - Error: Failed to manage screen: 0
compiz (core) - Fatal: No manageable screens found on display :0.0

Launching fallback window manager

The same output on both.

Any ideas?

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 498380] [NEW] High virtual memory usage (~350m) with radeon driver

2009-12-18 Thread Sergiu
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: xserver-xorg-video-ati

top output:

PID USER PR NI VIRT RES SHR S %CPU %MEMTIME+ COMMAND
16569 root 20 0 343m 12m 6824 S 14 2.4 0:06.13 Xorg

This doesn't happen with the vesa driver (I believe I get a faster
responding desktop with vesa), but vesa can't give me 1680x1050.

This is the default xorg.conf - it's all the same, I even deleted
xorg.conf for autodetection, and it loads the driver properly, but i
believe it uses way too much memory.

Re: [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 498067] Re: Nvidia Graphics 3D Drivers crash Kmail

2009-12-18 Thread Mark Platt
Yes, I click on Hardware Drivers, then I click on Activate, which then
activates the NVIDIA accelerated graphics driver (version 180), which then
changes my monitor settings from 1280x1042 to 1600x900.

The monitor picture is better, and everything seems to work properly until I
click on KMail which very quickly freezes the screen and I can't get out of it
unless I manually shut down the computer. When I reboot I deactivate the newly
installed drivers to got back to my previous settings.

No bug reports appear in the process.

I could not find system specs using apport-collect 498067 because I did not
initially choose Change Anything privileges and it won't let me change my
choice. As far as I know my system is a:

HP Pavillion, p6122f, 64 bit, with a HP 2009m monitor, triple core AMD
processor

Hopefully this helps solve the problem. Keep up the good you guys are
great!

Regards, Mark
