[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 494372] Re: X crash - intel - xorg-edgers ppa enabled

2009-12-20 Thread Iain McFarlane
Upgrading to kernel 2.6.32.2 from http://kernel.ubuntu.com/~kernel-
ppa/mainline/v2.6.32.2/ seems to fix it as well so for those of us who
want to keep using the xorg-edgers ppa this may be the route to
stability.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 498736] [NEW] black screen for chat

2009-12-20 Thread Ab3L
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: x11-xserver-utils

I am running Karmic Koala (9.10).
When I am using a software to chat (like xchat or kvirc), the screen becomes
black for a second each N seconds. It seems that the frequence depends on the
size of the window (per ex. when maximised the screen turns to black each 2
seconds).

I get the same problem even disabling compiz (setting in appearence no
effects).

I would like a stable image and stay in a Linux environment. I didn't
have this problem with Hardy Heron (8.04). Never tested Intrepid (8.10).
I have found this problem, also in Jaunty (9.04).

My graphic card is this:
01:00.0 VGA compatible controller: ATI Technologies Inc RV516 XT Radeon X1600
Series (Primary)
01:00.1 Display controller: ATI Technologies Inc RV516 XT Radeon X1600 Series
(Secondary)

ProblemType: Bug
Architecture: i386
CheckboxCommand: xrandr
CheckboxData: Le modalità rilevate sembrano corrette, tuttavia, usando software
di chat, lo schermo diventa nero ad intermittenza. La frequenza con la quale
capita sembra dipendere dalla dimensione della finestra stessa (massimizzata,
ogni 2 secondi circa)

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 425408] Re: Acer AspireOne D150-1577 Touchpad problem

2009-12-20 Thread Matt Hamilton
I've got exactly the same problem. Noticed it first on 9.04. Updated to
9.10 and didn't resolve issue :( I have an Acer Aspire One D150-1Bb. It
was very strange as you could click once on an app to launch it (e.g.
firefox) but then you couldn't get firefox to focus and could then not
click on it at all.

Switching to a console terminal and killing X so that it then restarts
would sometimes fix the issue, but not always.

Anything I can do to help debug this, let me know.

-Matt

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 273505] Re: crash of Xorg using xrandr

2009-12-20 Thread Julian Kalinowski
Well, i have.
Enabling the second output on my Thinkpad X60s results in a crash (Black
screen/no output).
Can't even reboot the system with ctrl-alt-del.
When booting up with the second display plugged in already, it works, but i
experienced a random crash yesterday (while the system is running stable
without a second display), too.
Like said before, its working well without desktop effects.

Hi sethhikari,

Please attach the output of `lspci -vvnn` and `dmesg`, and attach your
/var/log/Xorg.0.log (and maybe Xorg.0.log.old) file from after reproducing this
issue. If you're using a custom /etc/X11/xorg.conf please attach that as well.

[This is an automated message. Apologies if it has reached you
inappropriately; please just reply to this message indicating so.]

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 498693] [NEW] installation with two VGA cards

You have been subscribed to a public bug:

instalation with two vga cards

   1. One Hundred Paper Cuts
   2. Questions
   3. Question #94639

Hi, I'm new in this (100 Paper Cuts, not Ubuntu), my problem is this:
When I try to install Ubuntu (Kubuntu too) if I not disable the PCI-E
video card, the installation stops. I have two video cards, one is
integrated with the motherboard (Intel 945GNTLR), and the other is an
ATI x550xt PCI-E. It seems like the Operative System was a conflict
detecting the two cards, and is not be able to handling successfully
that conflict to continue with the installation. The problem solves
(before the installation with the integrated card, disabling the PCI-E)
adding in the directory /etc/modprobe.d/blacklist.conf, the following
line:

blacklist intel_agp
blacklist agpgart

and then, in a terminal:

sudo update-initramfs -u,

reboot the system and everything runs correctly, using the PCI-E card. When I
discover the page 100 Paper Cuts, first in my memory came this problem, so, I
post it. Many times I have to unplug and plug VGA cards for the installation of
Ubuntu/Kubuntu, and many many people have to deal with this problem. Read this
link for more information: http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=1308919 .
Thanks for read this. I hope this helps in some form to the project. Sorry for
my bad english, a big hug to all of you!!!

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 498693] Re: installation with two VGA cards

2009-12-20 Thread mac_v
Thank you for bringing this bug to our attention. However, a paper cut
should be a small usability issue, in the default Ubuntu install, that
affects many people and is quick and easy to fix. So this bug can't be
addressed as part of this project.

- This is a hardware specific issue , Hence not a papercut
For further information about papercuts criteria, please read
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/PaperCut.

Don't worry though, this bug has been marked as Invalid only in the
papercuts project.

** Changed in: xserver-xorg-video-intel

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 494627] Re: nv driver crashing with segmentation fault in libpthread.so.0

Hi Seth

Thanks for the hint. You are of course right, so I will take a look
there.

By the way: after yesterday's xserver update gdm seems to work again,
and startup correctly with the nvidia driver. Let's hope it does again
after today's kernel update ...

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 314928] Re: [i915GM] MTRR entry gets removed when restarting xorg - causes corruption on ttys

2009-12-20 Thread v1nsai
I don't know how to change the status, but the xserver-xorg-video-intel
2.9 on Ubuntu Karmic is still unclaimed on my Dell Studio 15 when I
check 'lshw -C display'.

Performance is still a little laggy, I'm using compiz but a lot of the
animations lag pretty easily, and VMware always gives me an error about
my video card being incompatible.

I tried rolling back to the 2.4 driver but that didn't fix it and almost
fubar'ed my system o_0

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 123775] Re: Elantech touchpad is incorrectly recogonised as a ImPS/2 Logitech Wheel Mouse

2009-12-20 Thread Kamui
I confirm this bug in Karmic (2.6.31-16-generic) with an Asus UL30A-
QX105V laptop.

I have the same result as everyone else : a working touchpad but
misrecognized as an ImPS/2 Logitech Wheel Mouse and therefore not
taken care by Synaptics driver.

I tried to reload the psmouse module with each proto parameter option with no
luck.
I tried to compile an old kernel provided by the package linux-source-2.6.31
with and without a patch to add an elantech parameter to the psmouse module (
http://git.array.org/?p=array/ubuntu-intrepid.git;a=commit;h=4e03ed0eabce7165c932a50c94fc8ee53ba23c4f
) but neither of them worked.

It is very annoying not to be able to fine tune the touchpad via Synaptics even
if it works ok for a basic usage.
I would be very happy to provide further information/testing if needed. Thank
you

Re: [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 374090] Re: [VX800] Samsung NC20 installation problem(test pattern on screen)

2009-12-20 Thread George Varghese
Till now external monitor was not working. I updated the latest
to latest openchrome version on Samsung NC20 today. I also made
changes to xorg.conf as said in NC20 page.

https://help.ubuntu.com/community/NC20#Build%20from%20SVN
Mainly LCD/CRT line and DefaultDepth 16 line.
Here are my first observations. External monitor is working now.
That is a great thing and I am not limited to my small screen any
more. Thanks very much guys.

I am not sure of the crash/freeze. I will report it if I observe
it. But, when I play videos I can see it on laptop monitor. On
the external monitor I see a green box in place of video. If I
change to full screen mode, I see full green external monitor.
When I play a video from you tube I can see that on external
monitor. But when I change it to full screen there is a picture
in picture.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 312756] Re: support graphics card hot switch

2009-12-20 Thread wentzr
SONY Vaio VPCCW13FX w/ NVIDIA GEEFORCE G210M w/CUDA
Screen goes black after installing any compatible NVIDIA driver package from
185.x-190.x

Interesting workaround for the problem here:
http://www.nvnews.net/vbulletin/showthread.php?t=140482
I don't have/use windows so I can't extract the EDID with this method..

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 451518] Re: [i945G] karmic: INFO: task i915/* blocked for more than 120 seconds.

2009-12-20 Thread Adrian Popa
Update:
My system is now stable after uninstalling xscreensaver and using xlock instead
(no more 3d graphics). I will leave it on like this for a while and afterwards
I will enable compositing in my window manager (Xfce) and see if it becomes
unstable again. Will keep you posted.
