[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 444674] Re: Mouse behaves strange on clicking in graphical environment

2010-01-12 Thread Timo Jyrinki
A workaround of putting a line options psmouse proto=exps in
/etc/modprobe.d/psmouse.conf seems to work for me.
Therefore the bug is in the psmouse kernel driver detection code? Or that it's
correctly detected but the resulting protocol has a bug compared to what the
hw actually uses.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 406865] Re: [GM45] 3D applications fail to run in WINE

2010-01-12 Thread rasmus nielsen
Okay, thanks for the explanation, but i can't help but wonder if it
isn't possible to make this GMA45 work in ubuntu...

I think i already mentioned that i tried to get the 3D working in both
8.10 and 9.04, which has really been a hard pice of work, never
succeeded though.

If you care for it, you could take a look at the this thread:
http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=963386
it tells quite a bit about this problem.

I just have a question that i'd like to ask.
when you edit the HKEY-CURRENTUSER-SOFTWARE-WINE-DIRECT3D-VideoMemorySize

should i type 64 mb or 1543 mb? because my GMA 4500 has a lot of
dedicated ram, and should the amount be with or without that?

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 506247] Re: Compositing cannot be re-enabled after upgrade

2010-01-12 Thread Alberto Milone
This problem was caused by the failure of the xserver-xorg-core package
to remove an alternative which had been installed by the previous
release of the same package.

This is fixed in version 1.7.3.902-1ubuntu5.dsc.

Credit goes to Steve Langasek for spotting the cause of the problem

NOTE: if you want a quick fix you can simply reinstall xserver-xorg-core with
the following command and reboot:
sudo apt-get install --reinstall xserver-xorg-core

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 406865] Re: [GM45] 3D applications fail to run in WINE

2010-01-12 Thread Sandro Mani
Well concerning at least 9.04, it was in the middle of the EXA - UXA
transition with new stuff coming in like KMS and GEM, therefore things were not
really stable back then (and as far as I recall also fedora had plenty of
problems at that stage). If you want to stick with ubuntu you'll need to add a
PPA repository containing newer packages, especially the xserver video drivers
and mesa, or take a look at lucid.
For the thread: glxgears is not a benchmark, cfr.
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/X/Troubleshooting/IntelPerformance
Lastly, concerning this specific issue video size should not make too much of a
difference, I'm actually not sure how wine uses this value, if only to report a
size to applications asking for it or if it actually really matters internally.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 440544] Re: screen corruption with Radeon 4770

2010-01-12 Thread ceg
Phil, thank you for pointing me to the xorg.conf. (your help worked out

** Description changed:

  Binary package hint: xorg

There is reproducable corruption of the screen when using a Sapphire
- Radeon 4770 card with the open source radeon drivers.
+ Radeon 4770 card with the open source radeon and fglrx drivers.

It takes the form of a chequered effect, looking a bit like a chequer
  / checkerboard.

In Gnome, this is most noticeable when the screen goes greyed (eg when
typing gksudo ..) but can also be seen at other times eg in the previews
shown in System Preferences-Appearance-Theme. The menus in KeePassX
  are corrupted.

In KDE, this is much more noticeable right away in the the menu and the
  ublog on the desktop.

When using the fglrx driver the effect does not show when the screen is
greyed, though the theme previews do still show the same corruption.

- An attachment shows a screenshot of the grey screen effect.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 506412] [NEW] Sync xserver-xorg-input-evdev 1:2.3.2-3 (main) from Debian unstable (main).

2010-01-12 Thread Timo Aaltonen
Public bug reported:

Please sync xserver-xorg-input-evdev 1:2.3.2-3 (main) from Debian
unstable (main).

Changelog since current lucid version 1:2.3.2-1:

 xserver-xorg-input-evdev (1:2.3.2-3) unstable; urgency=low

  * 65-xorg-evdev.rules: instead of blacklisting joysticks, explicitly
whitelist keyboards, mice, touchscreens and touchpads (closes: #564219).
We'll need a better solution, but this should do for now.
  * No need to test for linux in postinst, this package only exists on linux.

 -- Julien Cristau jcris...@debian.org Thu, 07 Jan 2010 20:21:57
+

xserver-xorg-input-evdev (1:2.3.2-2) unstable; urgency=low

  [ Timo Aaltonen ]
  * evdev.rules: Skip joysticks, since using evdev for those is
generally considered as a bad idea. Use -joystick instead.

  [ Julien Cristau ]
  * evdev.rules: Match on ID_INPUT instead of device name + subsystem.
  * Upload to unstable.

 -- Julien Cristau jcris...@debian.org Thu, 07 Jan 2010 20:21:57

karmic but all is running well on Lucid now. Compiz is running too.
Systemadmin Hardware drivers not working yet though. It shows

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 494166] Re: [lucid] nvidia-glx can't work with new xorg 7.5

2010-01-12 Thread Harry
Philinux,
You should install (in Lucid) the package nvidia-current (190.53-0ubuntu4)
and the package nvidia-settings (190.53-0ubuntu1).
Then run in console:
sudo nvidia-xconfig
And finally reboot.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 503393] Re: xserver freeze after a few reboots

2010-01-12 Thread pramathesh ambasta
To report further, the system worked well for a few days and froze once
again. After that it performed without a hitch for a few more days but
today, while in the process of selecting applications for installation
in Synaptic, it froze and the screen turned to black and white stripes.

Again, the system turned unresponsive and could not even be connected to
from another computer via ssh.

Nothing in the logs as far as I can see which seems to capture this.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 506467] [NEW] Lucid would not boot with USB devices attached

2010-01-12 Thread Christopher
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: xorg

When booting with USB devices, it stops with the message 'unable to
enumerate USB device on port X', X being sometimes 1 and sometimes 2. It
is followed by the message 'buffer I/O error, dev sr1, sector XX'
repeated for differing sectors.

Ctrl+Alt+Delete is the only way out. Recovery mode returns to a login.

I detached all my USB devices and was then able to boot. I suspect it's
my cooling pad which has 4 unused USB ports, allegedly USB 2, but I
suspect they're really USB 1.

This has been an issue on Lucid only, starting today with all updates as
of 09:45 EST in Canada.

2010-01-12 Thread takashi torigoe
Thank you, Geir Ove Myhr.
I executed apport collect 475429. ( with Lucid normal kernel )
And, the batchbuffer dump I got yesterday is attatched here.

 this patch:
 http://lists.freedesktop.org/archives/intel-gfx/2009-December/005250.html
This patch simply disable the i915_regs.
So, the dump I got will be same result.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 312756] Re: support graphics card hot switch

2010-01-12 Thread Fabián Rodríguez
@Moritz, I am in a support position where I often have to rely on third
party information to guide people through solutions and workarounds.
Having a screenshot handy beats any should be obvious explanation,
it's also best to illustrate such workaround in any documentation :) A
*huge* thanks for taking the time to do this. Although I can't dedicate
the time required to take advantage of them right now, I'd rather ask
for the information and either hope someone will get to push them to the
wiki or else - or maybe I'll do it when I need to in the future.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 506488] [NEW] regression on latest update: edge scrolling no longer works on trackpad

2010-01-12 Thread Steve Alexander
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: xserver-xorg-input-synaptics

I updated Karmic just now, after not having done so for several weeks.

After rebooting after the update, and logging back in, I find that edge-
scrolling on the laptop's touchpad no longer works. Nor does tap-in-
corners.

It was working fine before this update -- Karmic as of the start of
December.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 475429] Re: [i945] Intel 82945G/GZ Integrated Graphics Controller Freezes when compiz enabled

2010-01-12 Thread Geir Ove Myhr
Thank you for the logs. If you can also get the batchbuffer dump, that
would be nice.

I'm a little puzzed about the kernel you are using. It is reported as
2.6.32-7.10-generic. This was replaced already on Dec 11, which is quite
a while ago and the latest kernel in should be Lucid is 2.6.32-10.14.
Did you install using a alpha1 without doing `apt-get dist-upgrade`
afterwards? Or are you using an alpha1 LiveCD?

2010-01-12 Thread takashi torigoe
If you can also get the batchbuffer dump, that would be nice.
The batchbuffer is attached in #37.
It contains batchbuffer except i915_regs file.
I think that there is no problem because the i915_regs file is disabled by the
patch.(http://lists.freedesktop.org/archives/intel-gfx/2009-December/005250.html)

Did you install using a alpha1 without doing `apt-get dist-upgrade` Or are
 you using an alpha1 LiveCD?
I just install Lucid by alpha1 LiveCD. (and xorg-edgers)
So I did not run apt-get dist-upgrade.

2010-01-12 Thread philinux
@Harry,

nvidia-current is installed and nvidia-settings, it shows 190.53 in use.

nvidia-xconfig generated a rather full xorg.conf compared to the bare
bones one from karmic, hence why I used my karmic one.

I didnt try the lucid generated one. but everthing is working as it
should with the correct monitor res.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 495553] Re: [K8M800] Screen origin shifted to center, screen wraps, ttyN screens don't work, on Averatec 3280 running Lucid with openchrome driver

2010-01-12 Thread Peter Belew
As of Tue Jan 12 08:57:44 PST 2010, this seems to have been fixed. I
updated the system with apt-get a few minutes ago, a large number of
packages were updated. After rebooting, the screen now appears normally.
I am not sure what package(s) were changed to fix the problem.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 312756] Nvidia on/off

2010-01-12 Thread Alexandre Kaspar
Hi everybody,

since I'm following the thread from a long time, I'm getting more and
more doubtful about the nvidia state.

Actually, I'm just using the acpi_osi=Windows 2006! way to use both
cards (cold switching) on Fedora 12.
But I'm wondering wether it's really the good way.

I've never used the kernel module which is often spoken about (see in
the quoted mail). However, it seems to me as if it was ok.
As if, the cold switching was just all right. Nothing else to do.

What are the positive uses of this kernel module ?
Doesn't the switching just switch off the second graphic card ?

When I'm on stamina, lspci | grep -i nv doesn't show any card.
When I'm on speed, I suppose we cannot disable the intel one (but I
actually don't care since it's not a big problem : we want graphic
power, not battery time).

When the led's switched off (no light), then I can see both card, but
only the intel one is working (but that doesn't look like the winning
way for the nvidia card is also working and eating battery time).

I wonder if the nvidia card off also means it's not using battery ? Is
it what the kernel module is intended to ? Or something else ?

Thanks for the great work
Alexandre Kaspar

Narciso Cerezo narc...@elondra.com a écrit :

 @toni
Hi, the way to kill (disable) the nvidia card is through a
 contributed kernel module:
 http://linux-hybrid-graphics.blogspot.com/2009/12/solution-to-switch-off-nvidia-card-in.html
I will check again if a BIOS update is available for my Asus UL50VT,
but there was no option to change between cards or modes as your
 Lenovo has :(
The BIOS should have such an option, it is not like choosing at boot
time or like switching it live, but will do the trick in the mean
 time.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 496890] Re: Garbled screen when disabling internal display on macbook

2010-01-12 Thread Vladimir Prus
I observe a similar problem. I have Dell Latitude D620, and external
display works fine until I try to disable internal screen. When I
disable, I get small visual issues all over. I attach a couple of
images. First image is a screenshot of konsole. It shows a text cursor
(white block), but two characters later there's stay underscore. It
randomly appears -- e.g. if I start typing first character somethings
gets struck with underscore. Second screenshot is from kmail. Note that
some items have bluish underline. This appears when I hover over items
with the mouse. The item under mouse is highlighted in blue -- which is
expected. But then when I move mouse, the buttom part of this highlight
sticks. It almost looks like there's off-by-something bug caused by
absent first monitor.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 474917] Re: nvidia drivers 185.xx compile into kernel 2.6.28 instead of 2.6.31 on update from jaunty to karmic

2010-01-12 Thread ochatard
My graphic card requires the nvidia-96 driver and seems to the same trouble,
even after upgrade to the latest 2.6.31-17 kernel.
The only workaround I found to be able to run in high resolution is to run the
old 2.6.28 kernel, but then, ALSA sound package is no longer working, so the
issue to choose between sound and low-resolution graphic mode or no sound and
high resolution graphic mode : is that a choice ?

You have been subscribed to a public bug:

I started gnometris, maximised the window (just for fun) and started the
game. It ran slowly so I decided to switch back to normal-size window.
It didn't help (the game continued running slowly), so I just closed
gnometris and launched it again. Now the screen is full of strange
stripes, and I couldn't start a new game (well, actually I think I can,
because when I press Ctrl+N, stripes begin to change their colour)!
That's a shame, because I really like tetris...

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 399487] Re: xterm doesn't accept marking with mouse

2010-01-12 Thread Tomas Pospisek
I can confirm that the problem can not be reproduced any more with the
released karmic live CD (64bit version) on the same machine. Thus I've
closed the bug.

Thank you!

Should I try a new nvidia driver, kernel, X server ?

_any_ comments, suggestions, appreciated.

Didn't mention before but it's a PAE kernel.

Other wierd things I keep seeing are: (don't know if related)

(eclipse:8879): GLib-WARNING **: g_set_prgname() called multiple times

and t-bird 3 segfaults:

0 % thunderbird-3.0
Segmentation fault

deleting the t-bird config didn't help either.

Thanks a lot everybody! I hope this package makes it to the karmic repository

Thanks for confirming. Can you please get us the output of lspci|grep VGA
here, so that we know which chipset you are using?

For verification I'm also interested in getting testing feedback with
other chipsets (from other people and QA team).

Thanks,

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 488086] Re: 'Option AutoAddDevices off' is not preventing devices from being automatically added

2010-01-12 Thread Johannes Reisinger
AutoAddDevices does not work for me in karmic too (and I used false:-).
I use a special X-configuration for a couple of Ubuntu releases:
A second X-server with a special xorg.conf file is running on my PVR-350 (ivtv)
card on which MythTV is running. For this I needed an xorg.conf without any
input devices (mythtv is controlled by lirc).
But with Karmic, the 'AutoAddDevices' option does not work further.
