[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 508699] [NEW] Xorg freeze / Kernel 2.6.32-10-generic freeze
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: xorg With kernel 2.6.32-9-generic the logon screen does not freeze. With kernel 2.6.32-10-generic it does. Freez starts with display of the logon screen. No mouse, no keyboard. Alt-Ctrl-F1-4 do not work. Alt-Ctrl-Backspace either. Alt-Ctrl-Del doesn't have any result. Trying to logon remotely isn't working --- timeout. Pinging the system has same result. Only a hard reset or powering off helps out. I have tried to disable splash, remove quiet splash from the kernel commandline, but with no result: after the kernel is loaded it reinitializes graphics. Only seeing a black screen after that. This with both kernels 2.6.32-9 and 2.6.32-10. Furthermore: trying to switch back to a text console with Alt-Ctrl-F1 only shows a black screen without any cursor. Adding vga=normal to the kernel commandline leads to output: vga=normal is deprecated under some circumstances it is neccessary to boot windows in between to have the display work again with linux. Looks to me a lot like linux not initializing graphics complete, leaving things as found from boots before. Messing things up in a way nothing working any more. This state is noticable while booting: grub will not display it's menu. Just some random graphics, looking like modern art. Please install the ATI driver appropriate for you ATI hardware, or configure using aticonfig. -- Xorg crashed with SIGSEGV in FatalError() / CloseWellKnownConnections() https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/507345 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to xorg-server in ubuntu. ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp
[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 422224] Re: two-finger scrolling does not work on Acer AO531h
Uh... I should take back my comment on #28, because my memory is wrong. Eee PC 701 Synaptics touchpad did not have two-finger scrolling and tapping, and I had only edge scrolling (vertical and horizontal), and hard buttons (left and right). It was last last year, and it was my last last netbook, so I mixed it up with my experience on Eee PC 901 with Elantech touchpad. I guess this only way to get Synaptics with two- finger scrolling is through emulation. -- two-finger scrolling does not work on Acer AO531h https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/44 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to xserver-xorg-input-synaptics in ubuntu. ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp
[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 508752] [NEW] Mouse moves erratically after executing xrandr --panning
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: xorg The mouse makes random jumps of about 20 pixels while being moved. Its very much like using an optical mouse on too smooth a surface - but this is when using a thinkpad trackpoint device - no other pointing device plugged in. This happens after executing the following commands xrandr --fb 1920x1200 xrandr --output VGA1 --mode 1920x1200 xrandr --output LVDS1 --mode 1280x800 xrandr --output VGA1 --pos 0x0 xrandr --output LVDS1 --panning 1920x1200+0+0/1920x1200+0+0/0/0/0/0 (Specifically, after executing the last one). Its very difficult to pick accurately a place to click, so if I am trying to maximise or minimise a window for instance, sometimes it kills the window instead - and vice versa. It only starts when the xrand panning command is activated. However I have been desperate for this feature to be put back since it was removed in a past version of Ubuntu and I am loathe to ditch panning. An accurate description is this. Picking a point to click, lets say the 'file' dialogue in a window, I move the mouse towards this point. As I get close, the mouse starts 'vibrating' rapidly (at a guess about 10 jumps per second). When I stop moving the mouse, the pointer stays still. However the pointer might not be where I need it. I move the mouse one pixel (very carefully) towards where I want it to be, and it shoots about 20 pixels down and to the right. Move another pixel and it jumps back to the original position, etc. The result with slow mouse movement is a vibrating mouse pointer that you can not place anywhere. This only happens in certain parts of the screen, but which part randomly varies. If I go back to a part of the screen where the pointer was vibrating 2 mins ago, it might not be vibrating now. However it might be vibrating if I move it to a different part of the screen now. As I work, it gets in the way frequently, at least once a minute. It also happens when I am simply over the desktop, and not over any application buttons or similar. I have also filed a different bug which is related to panning and the mouse, which might be related, and which prevents the smaller window into a larger virtual screen scrolling to the edge of the screen sometimes. My setup is a lenovo x200 laptop which is brand new, but which I tried with windows 7 first without a problem. It has a dell 24 inch monitor plugged in and I use the 2 screens at the same time, with a 1920x1200 virtual screen, with the monitor displaying this resolution natively and the laptop with a 1280x800 screen displaying a 1280x800 window into the virtual screen. Obviously the laptop screen pans around inside the virtual screen. The laptop is running a clean 9.10 install which has been updated by the update manager. Before I execute the panning xrand command, the problem is not there. If anyone can suggest things to try I will be glad to try them. [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 508248] Re: Screen flickers once in a while, not whole screen, one small stretch at bottom middle
I believe I have the same bug but I'm not sure. We have some older Gateway T6524's running 32bit installs of Karmic. We get flickering screens when launching some apps: Firefox, Google-Earth, AutoCad, Blueprint software, Topographic software, and so on. Sometimes the machine flicker on and off for a few seconds and sometimes they just go totally black and then come back on. Management is not going to spend money on new machine with this economy and this may be simply an issue caused by older hardware; However, we never had any problems with previous versions of Ubuntu and we started with Gutsy. Below is a 'lshw listing, I hope this helps someone help us. The CIO isn't happy right now with Karmic. [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 422224] Re: two-finger scrolling does not work on Acer AO531h
I have the same problems with multiple finger not recognized with my dell adamo 13 - but with windows7 multitouch works perfectly fine. so ive installed to newest (unstable) synaptics driver for my ubuntu 9.10: synchlient -V 1.2.1 unfortunately its still not working. from my point of view its wrong to assume that only emulation can help. the hardware is able to recognize multitouch and windows7 proves it. the problem is either the driver or the configuration i guess. comments from the devs? -- two-finger scrolling does not work on Acer AO531h https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/44 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to xserver-xorg-input-synaptics in ubuntu. ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 474928] Re: mesa applications crash Mobility 7500 and corrupt filesystem
I get apparently the same bug (file system corruption) on my system (Thinkpad T41, Kubuntu 9.10, kernel 2.6.31-17-generic) using Mesa 7.7 from xorg-edgers see https://launchpad.net/~xorg-edgers/+archive/ppa and https://wiki.ubuntu.com/XorgOnTheEdge). Although I neglected to check the exact mesa version, I believe it was 7.7.0~git20100104+mesa-7-7-branch.1e414df8-0ubuntu0sarvatt See also this kernel bug report: http://bugzilla.kernel.org/show_bug.cgi?id=14535 and this Debian report: http://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=550977 It's also reported on other Linuxes The Debian people classify it critical and I have to agree. The whole system comes down irretrievably, with file system damage and possible data loss. How can we figure out if the bug is in the kernel or in mesa? ** Bug watch added: Linux Kernel Bug Tracker #14535 http://bugzilla.kernel.org/show_bug.cgi?id=14535 ** Bug watch added: Debian Bug tracker #550977 http://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=550977 -- mesa applications crash Mobility 7500 and corrupt filesystem https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/474928 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to mesa in ubuntu. ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 426582] Re: (32MB) certain windows drawn garbled when XAA is used
FOUND WORK-AROUND: (This is not a proper solution, just a work- around that works well.) Install package: notification-daemon 0.4.0-1ubuntu3 (gets rid of garbage in notification balloons) optional: libnotify-bin (notify-osd library containing command-line 'notify-send') Fixes: Garbage displayed in notify-osd balloon. Balloon now contains text and a countdown timer (if specified, and there isn't any documentation in 'man notify-send' on how to get the timer). Side-effect: Balloon position may not be the same, and moving the mouse over the balloon doesn't hide it. Note: xorg.conf setting of 24 bits/pixel - 16 bits/pixel may not be needed. (Tested with 64MB video RAM, not 32MB). -- (32MB) certain windows drawn garbled when XAA is used https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/426582 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is the registrant for xserver-xorg-driver-ati. ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp

I'm encountering a similar behavior along with bug #479839. -- [Toshiba Satellite P300] Touchpad don't work https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/415804 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to xserver-xorg-input-synaptics in ubuntu. ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp
[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 479839] Re: Synaptics Touchpad on Dell Inspiron 2650 not always working after restart
I've noticed similar behavior to bug #415804 where the touchpad seems to work if another USB mouse is plugged in at boot. i'll assume that Travis Watkins knows better than I about the source package, thankfully the package was changed before apport-collect so everything is still relevant. [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 99625] Re: caps as additional ctrl key just disables caps on g4 powerbook 12
*** This bug is a duplicate of bug 196277 *** https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/196277 I do not see how this is a duplicate of bug #196277. For my setup with a fresh install of Ubuntu 9.04 on an iBook G4, it seems that CapsLock is not working as a modifier because even though I hold the key down, it is sending the KeyRelease event immediately after sending the KeyPress event. So it seems that it is mapping correctly, but perhaps the keyboard driver (or maybe Xorg) is not correctly noticing that the CapsLock is held down. Here's the output from xev; notice the two events have the exact same time values: KeyPress event, serial 33, synthetic NO, window 0x361, root 0x114, subw 0x0, time 41882227, (64,177), root:(80,298), state 0x2, keycode 66 (keysym 0xffe5, Caps_Lock), same_screen YES, XLookupString gives 0 bytes: XmbLookupString gives 0 bytes: XFilterEvent returns: False KeyRelease event, serial 33, synthetic NO, window 0x361, root 0x114, subw 0x0, time 41882227, (64,177), root:(80,298), state 0x2, keycode 66 (keysym 0xffe5, Caps_Lock), same_screen YES, XLookupString gives 0 bytes: XFilterEvent returns: False PropertyNotify event, serial 33, synthetic NO, window 0x361, atom 0x170 (XKLAVIER_STATE), time 41882235, state PropertyNewValue Here's my uname info: Linux smallfry 2.6.28-6-powerpc #20-Ubuntu Fri Apr 17 08:30:40 UTC 2009 ppc GNU/Linux Does anyone have any ideas on how to fix this? -- caps as additional ctrl key just disables caps on g4 powerbook 12 https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/99625 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to xorg-server in ubuntu (via bug 196277). ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 507618] Re: xserver-xorg-video-radeon has insufficient (even missing) dependency on libdrm-radeon1
I'm hitting the same problem now, having just updated to Lucid Alpha 2 from Karmic.
