[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 156824] Re: [915GM] closing lid breaks X (jumping cursor, sluggish, high cpu usage ... )
Hi, I am running a HP NC6220 also with the i915 driver on Ubuntu Karmic 9.10. For me there are similar problems as the ones above. After opening the lid again (or only touching the screen off sensor which happens a lot with this laptop model) the screen flickers insanely and the mouse moves around. X seems to take a high CPU load as some windows hang on redrawing. I checked the upstream bug and saw a hint to the /proc/acpi/video/.../DOS setting (although I have no idea what it is) When I do a echo 6 /proc/acpi/video/YOUR DEVICE HERE/DOS the problems dissappers instantly. and I can also close and open my lid as I want. I checked and before the lid close it was on 0. Does anyone know if there is a trouble when leaving this on 6, or setting it on 6 after boot automatically? /schaze -- [915GM] closing lid breaks X (jumping cursor, sluggish, high cpu usage ... ) https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/156824 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to xserver-xorg-video-intel in ubuntu. ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp

Hi, I tried that deb package but it complained about not finding rt73 module. I tried to install that module, but had no luck. So I removed the module, reactivated the other one (nvidia off). I removed everything about nvidia using synaptic, and when I have booted up this morning... I have desktop effects Looking at glxinfo and xorg.log it seems that it is using the Intel GMA with MESA. [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 509331] [NEW] Duplicate mouse pointer on dual head with rotated display(s)
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: xorg With a dual head setup on an ATI Radeon HD 2400XT (RV610) where one or both of the displays is rotated (ie portrait), there is a mirror image of the mouse pointer shown on the 2nd display whenever the mouse is on the 1st display. Only one pointer is visible when the mouse is on the 2nd display. The extra phantom mouse pointer can't interact with anything on the 2nd display. When only the 2nd display is rotated, the extra pointers appearance and movement still match the 1st display and have the wrong rotation for the 2nd display. This problem only appears when using the proprietary fglrx driver, but that might only be because I can't seem to rotate the displays with the open source driver. I don't know if this is relevant, but the AMD Catalyst Control Centre shows Xinerama as being disabled and erroneously says that it can't be enabled because it needs multiple displays (?). Apart from the 2nd pointer, there don't seem to be any other problems - there are no apparent graphics glitches or performance problems. Compiz also works OK on both monitors. [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 509329] [NEW] Both monitors are set too low resolution when second monitor is attached from system start
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: xorg I have a laptop (Sony Vaio VGN-SR51MF/S) which I use together with an external monitor (Benq G2410HD). I'm running Kubuntu Lucid (development version, latest updates installed). The video card is an Ati Monility Radeon 4530 HD; i'm using the xserver-xorg-video-ati drivers. When looking at Screen settings, there is printed (Auto) after the correct native resolutions for both the laptop screen as the external monitor. What the system does when booting while the HDMI cable is already connected and the external monitor is switched on, is that it enables the external monitor in clone mode (which is good), but it sets both displays to 1024x768. This resolution is lower than both the native resolution of my laptop (1280x800) and the native resolution of my external monitor (which is 1920x1080). What I would expect that if the system can detect which resolution is the native resolution, it would enable clone mode and set the resolutions to the respective *native resolutions* instead of setting them both to 1024x768. Public bug reported: Binary package hint: xorg Following the instructions at the alpha 2 page under Known Issues using the nvidia-current driver failed, forcing X to start in low graphics mode. Excerpt from wiki page: Jockey (Ubuntu's restricted driver manager) doesn't yet support the new alternatives system used by the nvidia driver packages, so in order to install nvidia drivers you will have to install them from the command line: * sudo apt-get install nvidia-current (or nvidia-173 or nvidia-96) * select the alternative that matches the driver that you have installed o (e.g. /usr/lib/nvidia-current/ld.so.conf for nvidia- current): sudo update-alternatives --config gl_conf * update the ld cache: o sudo ldconfig * then configure your xorg.conf with: o sudo nvidia-xconfig * And restart your computer. I did select option 0 (ld.so.conf) in ldconfig as above, but it failed. [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 507979] Re: Blank screen on startup, after 15 Jan 2010 updates
i'm experiencing what i think is a similar a black/blank screen in karmic after the ubuntu boot logo is finished on a dell studio xps 1340 laptop running a nvidia 9400m (+ 9200m but doesn't run due to no nvidia hybrid sli support) with karmic 64-bit. It happened after the reboot after installing about a 3 weeks of ubuntu updates (which i assume includes the above). Though the screen is black i can use my keyboard to login through the standard login screen and here all the standard ubuntu login noises (though i can't actually see anything as the screen remains blank). I can switch back to a text based login using ctrl + alt + f1 etc. Also if i revert back to the nv driver the standard grpahical login appears and everything works as per that driver. I've tried both nvidia binary drivers 190.53 and 195.30 in the hope that it was a compatibility issue with newer software installed in the ubuntu update but neither worked. I tried going back through kernels 2.6.31-17-generic back to 2.6.31-14-generic but all kernels have the same problem. Please let me know if and what additional information to provide to assist resolving this issue. [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 509439] [NEW] Xorg Multi Display - App Crashes due to improper mouse handling
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: xorg I have discovered a serious bug with X.org and handling of Multiple Displays (verified on 2 and 3 screens/displays.) No Xinerama, No TwinView; these are separated X Displays (:0.0, :0.1, :0.2, etc..) The issue seems to mostly affect applications with a common process/presence shared across multiple Displays. Steps to Reproduce a Full App-Crash (with Nautilus, or Thunar): 1 - Ensure nautilus is NOT already running by command: ps -afx | grep nautilus 2 - Launch Nautilus from Primary Display ( :0.0 ) 2a - Ensure Pathbar Style is in use: Click View - Location Selector - CHECK: Pathbar Style 3 - Navigate into sub-folders, until 3 or more Folders are shown in the Pathbar, as clickable buttons. 3a - You should be able to click among any of these folders/buttons without issue 4 - Launch Nautilus in Second (or third Display, :0.1 / :0.2) 4a - Pathbar Sytle should automatically be in use. 5 - Navigate into sub-folders, until 3 or more Folders are shown in the Pathbar 6 - You should be able to select one Location from the Pathbar, without moving your mouse out of the window, click on a different Pathbar location. Your mouse will also not cause auto-highlight, or trigger a change when clicking a selection. 6a - IMPORTANT: If you continue pressing these seeming in-active Pathbar folder buttons, you will eventually crash your Nautilus/Thunar app!! It will crash from both displays. You are also able to reproduce this bug in-reverse, by initially launching nautilus/thunar from an xterm in the :0.1 display. This will bind Nautilus/Thunar main process to Display: :0.1, and cause the un- desired behaviour and app-crash to manifest even in the Primary display :0.0. Simply launching nautilus Panel on :0.1 will not duplicate as panel's main/parent process is still in Display :0.0 Other related oddities and symptoms. * Gnome-Terminal: in secondary display, if you click a top-menu-bar item, then without mouse exiting menu-bar area, mouse-over other menu items, the context will NOT follow your mouse (as it does on the Primary Display.) If you simply move the mouse out of the window-area, then back in, menu-bar tracking resumes normal behaviour. * Gnome-Panel: in secondary display, if you click Applications, Places, or System at top of screen, then without moving mouse from TOP-panel, move mouse-over other the other options (Applications, Places, or System), the mouse-over focus will not change menu items. If you move mouse out of top-panel, mouse will resume normal behaviour. * Also in Gnome-Panel, you can go into Properties from Second display, change between General/Background tabs. Withouse moving moues out of this window, clicking on Help or Close buttons will have NO effect. * XFCE4 window manager and applications also behave the exact same! Since this issue affects multiple applications, window managers, and the crash-reports list X Libraries first; I have assigned the report to xserver-xorg;. I have discovered this in a system upgraded from 8.04 (hardy) to 9.10 (karmic); and also verified on a separate computer with a fresh install of 9.10 (karmic). Both systems have all current updates installed. [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 506510] Re: Xorg crashed with SIGSEGV in FatalError() when using guest session
The crash does happen when trying to switch user too. If we try to switch user when another user is logged in , the current user session gets screwed and the cursor displayed on a vt with text. -- Xorg crashed with SIGSEGV in FatalError() when using guest session https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/506510 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to xorg-server in ubuntu. ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 507813] Re: [i945gme] Xorg crash on an idle netbook (Intel video): [mi] EQ overflowing
I verified that the crash/freeze occurs also when Gnome-Do is not running. I initially suspected it could be the cause since the symptom appeared shortly after I started using Gnome-Do, but today it happened without it. Also, this also happens when the computer is not idle for an extended time. Once yesterday and once this morning while using the browser actively. ** Changed in: xserver-xorg-video-intel (Ubuntu) Status: Confirmed = New -- [i945gme] Xorg crash on an idle netbook (Intel video): [mi] EQ overflowing https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/507813 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to xserver-xorg-video-intel in ubuntu. ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 507813] Re: [i945gme] Xorg crash on an idle netbook (Intel video): [mi] EQ overflowing
Geir, I'm unsure if this is a crash or a freeze. The https://wiki.ubuntu.com/X/Troubleshooting/Freeze page is confusing: It claims that a backtrace is a non-symptom, but lists [mi] EQ overflowing and X freeze as a relevant problem. In this case I'm getting both a backtrace and [mi] EQ overflowing. -- [i945gme] Xorg crash on an idle netbook (Intel video): [mi] EQ overflowing https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/507813 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to xserver-xorg-video-intel in ubuntu. ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp
