[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 508699] Re: Xorg freeze / Kernel 2.6.32-10-generic freeze
Tested the new Kernel 2.6.32-12: same as with 2.6.10: Xorg.0.log is written, but empty --- in all cases: booting with or without having booted windows before. But there is one big change: I can boot into the rescue system (did not work with Kernel 2.6.32-{10,11}), then su to a user after that run startx. This works. Keyboard is German, but no key-repeat and some other things I'd expect to work do not. Looks a lot like a race condition while starting X, gdm and background services leading to an endless loop or crash within X or gdm or even both (think it is X --- just because the logfile is created, but nothing written to it, while it is created and something written to it starting X from commandline). -- Xorg freeze / Kernel 2.6.32-10-generic freeze https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/508699 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to xserver-xorg-video-openchrome in ubuntu. ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 514234] Re: Autodetection results in reduced resolutions available - i915
** Description changed: Binary package hint: xorg I'm using a Dell optiplex 760 with an intel i915 chipset. The problem is that xorg *usually* doesn't recognize the screen so it uses a lower resolution 800x600. The only available resolutions are 640x480 and 800x600. Sometimes however the screen is recognized and the resolution is just fine. I haven't been able to find out under what circumstances this happens... My guess is that EDID information is sometimes detected incorrectly... I've tried rebooting Karmic with the kernel parameter modeset=0 and creating an xorg.conf file through X -configure but it doesn't seem to make any difference. + I've also noticed that (when the right resolution is selected) after a + couple of hours the screen turns black for 1-2 secs. It does that + blinking several times and finally the screen turns off. When I + restarted the pc it did the same thing only much faster like 5 mins + after booting. + + ProblemType: Bug Architecture: amd64 Date: Fri Jan 29 12:53:11 2010 DistroRelease: Ubuntu 9.10 InstallationMedia: Ubuntu 9.10 Karmic Koala - Release amd64 (20091027) MachineType: Dell Inc. [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 469820] Re: [GM45] system locks up at random intervals, except mouse
I have forwarded this bug to the upstream bug tracker at https://bugs.freedesktop.org/show_bug.cgi?id=26333 . Please register at bugs.freedesktop.org and add yourself to the CC:-field, so that you may receive any updates and questions from the intel developers. There are two things I can think about right now that may be of additional value to the developers: 1. On https://wiki.ubuntu.com/X/Troubleshooting/Freeze I have added information about how to use the DebugFlushCaches option which may make the batchbuffer dumps more readable for the developers. You can add this option to /etc/X11/xorg.conf and upload the next batchbuffer dump to the upstream bug report directly, noting that this one is with the DebugFlushCaches option. 2. Trying to exclude some subsystems. For example, if the freezes continue without desktop effects enabled and without any 3D programs or -screensavers, we can exclude that the bug is in the 3D-acceleration part of the driver stack. There is a list of xorg.conf option at https://wiki.ubuntu.com/X/Troubleshooting/Freeze#Narrow%20Subsystem%20it%20Occurs%20in and I can probably add the Tiling option to that list. You can upload any additional batchbuffer dumps to the upstream bug report instead of here from now. I don't think that trying with standard Lucid will have much value, except if it turns out that the bug isn't present there, which would be quite surprising. ** Bug watch added: freedesktop.org Bugzilla #26333 https://bugs.freedesktop.org/show_bug.cgi?id=26333 ** Also affects: xserver-xorg-video-intel via https://bugs.freedesktop.org/show_bug.cgi?id=26333 Importance: Unknown Status: Unknown -- [GM45] system locks up at random intervals, except mouse https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/469820 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is the registrant for xf86-video-intel. ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp

** Summary changed: - Autodetection results in reduced resolutions available - i915 + [Q45] Autodetection results in reduced resolutions available - i915 ** Tags added: displayport karmic q45 resolution ** Description changed: Binary package hint: xorg - I'm using a Dell optiplex 760 with an intel i915 chipset. + I'm using a Dell optiplex 760 with an intel Q45 chipset. I've also noticed that (when the right resolution is selected) after a couple of hours the screen turns black for 1-2 secs. It does that blinking several times and finally the screen turns off. When I restarted the pc it did the same thing only much faster like 5 mins after booting. - ProblemType: Bug Architecture: amd64 Date: Fri Jan 29 12:53:11 2010 DistroRelease: Ubuntu 9.10 InstallationMedia: Ubuntu 9.10 Karmic Koala - Release amd64 (20091027) MachineType: Dell Inc. [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 514234] Re: [Q45] Autodetection results in reduced resolutions available - i915
It seems you are right that the EDID is not always detected. In XorgLog.txt the information is there, but in XorgLogOld.txt it isn't. According to the logs you have an DELL E1909WDD connected via DisplayPort. Is that correct? Does the problem go away if you connect the monitor by other means (VGA, DVI, HDMI, etc.)? I think I have seen some updates to the EDID fetching code in the kernel lately. Could you try the 2.6.31-rc5 kernel from https://launchpad.net/~xorg- edgers/+archive/ppa (see also https://wiki.ubuntu.com/KernelTeam/MainlineBuilds) and see if the problem is still present there? -- [Q45] Autodetection results in reduced resolutions available - i915 https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/514234 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to xserver-xorg-video-intel in ubuntu. ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 468413] Re: Radeon module loaded before agpgart
Hej there I am a Danish Linux newbie. I have the trouble of using 3d rendering on ati 9600 pro and mobo asrock k7Upgrade-600. It's a VIA KT400/KT400A/KT600 chipset... Following those steps opposed by Cyril and Marcin I got it to work However I noticed that whenever 3D worked I got a message inside KDE (kubuntu) (kernel 2.6.31-17 and -14) asking if I wanted to disable alsa drivers permanently for the missing device. ??? That was late last night... This morning when starting up I just got blank screens and lock-ups. What the f... I thought over things a bit and then hard reboot several times. Same result. Now something got me thinking of thislsa warning and I as an windows oldie thought perhaps there is some conflict between my agp and my AC97 device so into bios, disable snd device, and reboot. ”wupti.com” it worked. Now 3D rendering, menus, tty shift, everything is working like a charm. [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 490893] [NEW] [Karmic] Resume brings system instability and hard freezes
You have been subscribed to a public bug: Binary package hint: pm-utils Some people also affected by bug 417842 have this problem, though it might be unrelated. Jaunty suspend/resume worked just fine. In Karmic, it also works fine, but certain parts of the system will start to fail, and eventually the system will freeze. Magicsys keys sometimes work to bring me back to the login screen, but then the computer will completely freeze up and a hard reboot is needed. This computer actually uses NVidia + 185 drivers, but my card died last night. As such, I have experienced this problem with the restricted drivers+compiz as well as my current state of intel onboard+metacity. Therefore, it cannot be a bug for nvidia and compiz. I'm making a blind guess that the problem lies with pm-utils. This is reproducible 95 percent of the time. It's not a matter of if the system will become completely unstable, though, it's _when_ it will. Sometimes it's after five minutes, and sometimes it's after a few hours. Leaving my computer on 24/7 from bootup presents no problems whatsoever. Let me know if more information is needed. [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 514869] [NEW] Bulgarian keyboard layout does not match the standard
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: xkeyboard-config The Bulgarian keyboard layout in Ubuntu (the one identified simply as Bulgaria - Bulgaria) does not match the standard Bulgarian keyboard layout. The layout implemented in Ubuntu seems to be based on the failed* proposal for a standard prBDS 5237:2006. For example, the round brackets () are moved to a different key, and in their place are introduced inverted double quotation marks. Most importantly, the layout doesn't match the symbols on keyboards sold in Bulgaria: http://www.computers.bg/img/upl/fig-3.-smoll.JPG (Random image found with Google Images.) I also noticed this after an apt-get dist-upgrade in Lucid today. I have intel 965GM chipset, so this is not a DDX driver problem. I think both the kernel and xorg-server was upgraded. [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 514336] Re: Key presses repeat when key is held down does not work
I tried to downgrade xserver-common and xserver-xorg-core from 2:1.7.3.902-1ubuntu9 to 2:1.7.3.902-1ubuntu8, but this did not change the key repeat behaviour. Moreover, key repeat works fine both if I use xterm or kde instead of gnome or gnome-failsafe, so this is probably a gnome problem and not an xorg problem. I noticed that there were also a lot of gnome packages that were upgraded. I'm attaching a list of the packages that were installed in my last update (there were quite a few since I hadn't updated in a week). This is the output of `grep upgrade /var/log/dpkg.log | grep ^2010-01-30 18:`. ** Attachment added: dpkg-upgrade.txt http://launchpadlibrarian.net/38564821/dpkg-upgrade.txt -- Key presses repeat when key is held down does not work https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/514336 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to xorg-server in ubuntu. ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 514974] Re: kwin crash sometime and can't be reloaded
It's a crash in the nvidia OpenGL driver code. ** Package changed: kdebase-workspace (Ubuntu) = nvidia-graphics- drivers (Ubuntu) -- kwin crash sometime and can't be reloaded https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/514974 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to nvidia-graphics-drivers in ubuntu. ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp
[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 348905] Re: GeForce4 420 Go issue
I have a Toshiba Satellite 2410, geforce4 420 go running Ubuntu 9.10 - the Karmic Koala After enabling proprietary nVidia accelerated graphics driver (version 96) I got a blank gui screen. I had to edit xorg.conf adding Option ConnectedMonitor DFP under Section Screen then I had the black bar down the side because the backend resolution was 976 pixels not 1024. I had to add download an edid.bin file and add Option CustomEDID DFP-0:/etc/X11/edid.bin under Section Device to fix it. I still have crashes whenever resizing video in videolan and the default video player unless I change the output device from default to X11 video output (tools/preferences/video in videolan). -- GeForce4 420 Go issue https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/348905 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to nvidia-graphics-drivers-96 in ubuntu. ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp
[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 314600] Re: [HD 3650] fglrx versions newer than 8.543 cause system hang and panic
I noticed that, as quickly as the change to gdm fixed it, the next upgrade of fglrx (not sure which version) re-broke it even after the init tweak. -- [HD 3650] fglrx versions newer than 8.543 cause system hang and panic https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/314600 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to fglrx-installer in ubuntu. ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp
[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 293698] Re: [RV280 9250] No signal to monitor in 8.04 unless NoDRI used
I'd rather post this on the upstream bug but Bryce's link to it looks broken. Well, I am afraid it is still an issue in Ubuntu. More of this, considering the date (2009-12-19) Bryce made his comment of a fix released, it looks like the this fix actually brought this problem to my PC. I have Asus P4PE motherboard, ATI Radeon 9550 (RV350 AS) graphic card and Ubuntu 8.04 installed. I've never experienced this problem until recently. And I am running PC with the mentioned above configuration from the date Hardy was released. These are almost 2 years for now. I do not remember exactly but it showed up on my PC at the very first time about 1-2 months ago. It happened from that time only 3 times always in the middle of a session, all 3 times while PC was just idle. The monitor goes black, no signal on monitor the keyboard was locked 2 times of 3 completely, and I had to shutdown by pushing a power button on a tower. The last time keyboard responded to Ctrl-Delete and restarted PC. Then I could continue to work as normal. My first shot was actually a hardware problem. But after some troubleshooting, further investigation and research I came here. And here I think my problem is. That's a pity, since I would prefer Open Source driver over proprietary one. -- [RV280 9250] No signal to monitor in 8.04 unless NoDRI used https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/293698 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is the registrant for xserver-xorg-driver-ati. ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp
