[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 273837] Re: USB mouse acceleration reset when plugged in

2010-02-10 Thread willjcroz
Also having this problem in Karmic (recently started happening). It
seems to happen after a resuming from suspend.

Like the original post says, the accel/sens sliders under the mouse
configuration applet are in the correct positions for my preferred
settings but the mouse behaves in the (slower) default way until I move
the sliders around a bit.

The same thing sometimes happens with the keyboard repeat rate settings
also.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 518938] Re: black screen on Intel HM55 - during boot and Xorg

2010-02-10 Thread Geir Ove Myhr
Hi Onilton, this chipset is so new that the support in Karmic is not very good.
Actually, it will only be officially supported (by intel) in kernel 2.6.33
which will not even be included in Lucid. However, the real-life support has
improved quite a lot from Karmic to Luicid, but since you already tried Lucid,
I guess it isn't fixed there yet. I know the intel developers are interested in
getting feedback on things that are not working with this chipset on their
newest driver stack. In order to help them with this, you can:
- Install the newest kernel from [1] (instructions at [2]), currently this is
2.6.33-rc7 IIRC.
- If that doesn't solve it, install the latest xorg including intel drivers
from the xorg-edgers PPA [3].

If it still doesn't work, you can either report it directly to the intel
developers using instructions from
http://intellinuxgraphics.org/how_to_report_bug.html (this is most
likely category 3: DRM kernel bug). Or you can report it here, and we
will help you getting it upstream (but it may add some delay).

I cannot promise that a fix can be pulled in for standard Lucid, but
hopefully Lucid with an upgraded kernel and maybe driver package will
work.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 510004] Re: [lucid regression] random graphics effects after resume from suspend to RAM

2010-02-10 Thread Martin Pitt
Christian, it seems that at least the quirks handling seems to work. You
are using the proprietary nvidia driver, which does not need any quirks
(and thus pm-utils disables them, just like hal did). Also, at least the
original reporter's problem
(http://launchpadlibrarian.net/38123737/Desktop%20after%20resume.png)
does not seem related to quirks.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 518938] Re: black screen on Intel HM55 - during boot and Xorg

2010-02-10 Thread Geir Ove Myhr
Sorry, Dotan, I didn't see that you were the original reporter.

You other guys, we prefer that only the original reporter upload
information to a bug report. If you feel like contributing, you can file
your own bug report, since it can be hard to unentangle which
information comes from where when if your findings at some point differ.
You may even mark your bug report as a duplicate of this, and then all
information you add to your bug report will also go to the subscribers
of this one. But then we have the information nicely separated in case
we need to split it off later.

PS: I'm not saying you cannot comment on this report in order to help,
but logs and test results should be only from the original reporter of
the bug.

I made an educated guess on which kernel to use, since the link Geir
provided was full of directories. (note: not blaming here, I'm the
ignorant one)  I selected the latest RC for 2.6.33, the v2.6.33-rc7/
 directory from http://kernel.ubuntu.com/~kernel-ppa/mainline/?C=M;O=D

Sorry, I usually ask for the latest -rcX , but I forgot in this case.
Good guess!

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 214154] Re: Can't VSYNC properly on ATI (Mobility Radeon HD 2600 XT)

2010-02-10 Thread Christian Böhm
I am experiencing the same problem as well. I run a fresh install of
karmic with all current updates installed and have a radeon 4850 running
on proprietary drivers which came with the install as well(I don't know
where to look for the version, but after the install a proprietary
driver was suggested to be installed to run 3d games, so I clicked yes)

When watching videos, playing games or even in normal desktop use(when
moving around windows, etc.) the tearing effect is pretty noticeable. I
tried setting fglrx options an also added radeon.modeset=1 to
/etc/default/grub as suggested above but it had no effect.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 507148] Re: [lucid] desktop runs out of video memory on ATI Radeon Mobility 7500

2010-02-10 Thread Jamie Strandboge
Using the xorg-edgers drivers and Manoj's kernel seemed to help
somewhat. It took longer to crash compiz but ultimately it did crash
with the same error. :( This is with no xorg.conf file, with KMS, with
EXA and with compiz. Attaching an external monitor with a higher
resolution than the laptop (eg 1680x1050 vs 1400x1050) will crash compiz
readily when using xrandr (same out of memory errors).

Installing plymouth makes the laptop completely unusable-- with a hard
system lock very early in the boot process and no text displayed on the
screen. Only the backlight is on.

As mentioned, a usable, but a regressed configuration (over Jaunty,
where compiz is usable) is to disable KMS, use XAA with RenderAccel off,
disable desktop effects (compiz) and remove plymouth.

For more details, see my extensive comments in the upstream bug.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 486837] Re: Freezes with nvidia-glx-185 or -190 after upgrade from jaunty to karmic

2010-02-10 Thread Mossroy
I now think that the freeze issue might come from a hardware problem :
I made a test that worked well :
- I removed the overclocking of my CPU (so that the CPU uses its normal speed).
The overclocking was stable for years, but one never knows. My graphic card is
not overclocked
- I reduced the screen resolution to 1024x768 (instead of 1600x1200)
- I used the DVI output instead of the VGA output (with the same flat screen)

This time, the youtube video was stable. The reduced CPU speed made it
choppy, but at least the machine did not freeze.

That makes me think it could be simply related to the overclocking.
Why did the freeze not happen when not using the proprietary nvidia driver?
Maybe because the open-source driver does not use some hardware acceleration.
Maybe in this case the AGP port draws more current or something similar.
Why did the freeze happen only after the upgrade to karmic? Maybe a coincidence
(even if I would find it surprising). Maybe the recent versions of the nvidia
driver and/or the flash plugin make use of a feature that was not used before,
and that leads to the problems with overclocking

I only can make assumptions, but at least I have a workaround

2010-02-10 Thread Mossroy
It does not seem to be related to the screen resolution (tried both 1024x768
and 1600x1200), or to the VGA/DVI port (tried both).
So I assume it was related to the overclocking

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 519801] Re: X server freezes randomly

2010-02-10 Thread Andreas Noteng
Could you please download the latest Lucid* iso-image and check if you
can reproduce the bug in lucid? You do not have to install lucid,
running the livecd should suffice. Also, because of all the segfaults in
your dmesg, I would recommend a memory test (should be available from
your boot menu).

Thank you for your help making Ubuntu better by reporting this bug.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 520046] [NEW] [Karmic] X freezes when attaching external monitor

2010-02-10 Thread Marcerino
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: xserver-xorg-video-intel

On my laptop, Dell Latitude D430 with an intel 945 graphics card, the X
server freezes when trying to activate an external screen. This problem
is new on Karmic. The problem occurs when booting without external
screen and then plugging in a screen (projector) and switching on,
either via keyboard or the 'Display' utility in the
'System-Preferences' menu.

I collected a batch buffer dump and other debug info following these
instructions:
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/X/Troubleshooting/Freeze#How%20to%20Get%20a%20Batchbuffer%20Dump%20%28-intel%20only%29

Hi, the requested logs are irrelevant because I cannot reproduce the
race condition on my machine. I only know about it because the
aggregated reports from Google Chrome's crash logger show this crash
happening.

This affects any application that calls XShmAttach(). The fix is pretty
clear. Please apply the trivial patch [3] from upstream.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 510004] Re: [lucid regression] random graphics effects after resume from suspend to RAM

2010-02-10 Thread Per Ångström
I take it the solution was to edit /usr/lib/pm-utils/sleep.d/98-video-
quirk-db-handler and remove add_parameters --quirk-no-chvt in the
using_nvidia block. Well I did that, and sorry, I see no difference at
all.

The screen is still garbled and it takes some virtual-terminal switching
until the mouse pointer turns up and I can see the screen saver's login
prompt. Back in Gnome (or KDE) many parts of the screen are blanked out.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 421347] Re: [i945gm] gnome-power-manager and blanking (removal of bodges)

2010-02-10 Thread Zach Smith
Confirmed on Karmic 32bit using radeon running on a first generation
MacBook Pro.

affects: xorg (Ubuntu) → xserver-xorg-video-intel (Ubuntu)

From the blog post it seems that this is not tied to any video driver,
so maybe we can reclassify what it affects?

Honestly, hardcoding (unclickable) links to some blog post in Gnome,
instead of fixing the problem source is quite strange.

If you read the blog that is just what he is doing. He has sent patches
upstream, it is Ubuntu's job to use those in their distro. But I also
found it strange

Does anyone know a way to restore the systems normal behavior without a
reboot? For instance, a symptom that is quite annoying is that I can no
longer hibernate, or use wifi. The first time it went to sleep I got
the box with four blue arrows, then it did it again and I got a white
silhouette with an orange arrow (same message, though). Can anyone else
confirm this behavior?

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 482456] Re: Corrupt video leaving graphics mode

2010-02-10 Thread Stéphane Gourichon
Hello all,

It seems I've had the same problem. I reported on
http://www.nvnews.net/vbulletin/
showthread.php?p=2183537 before finding this thread.

I solved it with NVIDIA-Linux-x86_64-195.36.03-pkg2.run
(pkg0 or pkg1 are not enough) released a few days ago.
It's available on ftp://download.nvidia.com/XFree86/Linux-x86_64/195.36.03/

Regards.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 519705] Re: lucid Freeze

2010-02-10 Thread Nigel Babu
Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make
Ubuntu better. Please execute the following command, as it will
automatically gather debugging information, in a terminal:

apport-collect 519705

This will help us to find and resolve the problem. Bear in mind that you
may need to install the python-launchpadlib package from the universe
repository. Additionally, when prompted to give apport-collect
permissions for Launchpad you will need to give it at least the ability
to Change Non-Private data as it will be adding information to your
bug report. Thanks in advance!

When reporting bugs in the future please use apport, either via the
appropriate application's Help - Report a Problem menu or using
'ubuntu-bug' and the name of the package affected. You can learn more
about this functionality at https://wiki.ubuntu.com/ReportingBugs.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 447892] Re: [i855GM] Freeze shortly after X startup on Intel i855

2010-02-10 Thread Tomasz Rozynek
All evening, pretty heavy loaded with work, without any hangs. Seems
quite ok. I may be wrong, as hangs sometimes occur extreamly rarely.
