[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 526880] [NEW] Icons on desktop dissappears and you can not out anything there untill you kill x-serv and log in again
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: xorg I work a lot in gimp. And when I pre-select what images to work with I use the Eye of gnome image viewer. I oftenly drag the images from a folder to the image viewer when I switch images. After several switches (from 5-10) the desktop manager hangs. It dosn't affect any other parts of the system. The only thing is that alla my icons on the desktop dissappears until I kill X-serv. If I go to "Places-->Desktop" everything is of course there.. Also confirmed the bug when loadin mp3s to Totem Movie Player 2.28.2. After draging and dropping mp3 back and forth from folders to the player it crashes. [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 449208] Re: touchpad tap-to-click response delayed .5 seconds
This is indeed very annoying. I've tried to adjust things via xinput but with no luck, not all of the same options seem to be available as through the old Shared Memory config method. There are a couple of posts about this issue on the forum but with no solution. I don't know whether the driver or something else would need to be changed but something like the following behaviour would be ideal: First scenario: Double/Triple Tap User taps (down and up within TapTimeout). ButtonDown happens immediately, but it waits TapDuration before sending ButtonUp. This gives the user time to tap again. If the user releases within TapTimeout, it sends another TapDuration tap, which again gives the user time to tap a third time. Second scenario: Tap and Drag User taps (down and up within TapTimeout). ButtonDown happens immediately, but it waits TapDuration before sending ButtonUp. This gives the user time to put his finger back on the touchpad, and if he doesn't lift it within TapTimeout, any movement from then on is treated as a drag. Depending on whether the DragLockTimeout, the drag ends immediately when the user lifts his finger, or after a delay. I guess the current situation is that the driver decides what the user is doing before executing any action (is he tapping, doubletapping, dragging), whereas what we're asking for is that the driver decides *while* the action is taking place. -- touchpad tap-to-click response delayed .5 seconds https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/449208 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to xserver-xorg-input-synaptics in ubuntu. ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 492270] Re: upstart failsafe incorrect screen resolution when running with 2.6.31 kernerls
Hi pacrook, As I've been experimenting with KMS and failsafe mode lately for Lucid, we've found that issues like this one crop up. It seems that the -vesa video driver (which failsafeX mode uses) doesn't work well with KMS. We've converted it to use fbdev instead. I'm >pretty< sure that'll solve this issue. Basically, you can test it by substituting "fbdev" instead of "vesa" in the xorg.conf.failsafe (or your xorg.conf). Alternatively, just boot the Ubuntu Lucid livecd, edit the xorg.conf to make it invalid (append 'foobar' or whatever), and then log out and back in (or do 'sudo service gdm restart' from the command line). Hopefully it should pop you into the failsafeX session properly. If you get a chance, please give it a try and let us know. If we don't hear back from you in a few weeks we'll assume it's no longer an issue. ** Changed in: xorg (Ubuntu) Status: Triaged => Incomplete -- upstart failsafe incorrect screen resolution when running with 2.6.31 kernerls https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/492270 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to xorg in ubuntu. ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp
[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 456902] Re: [i845G] Karmic stops responding a few minutes after log in
Thanks, Murphy. Love your work. 11:2.8.0 froze while using Firefox to compose a Gmail. As usual the mouse cursor remained movable (though stuck in the I-beam shape from the compose window, this time) but no response to clicks or keyboard. The desktop clock didn't update. The top listing on the other computer (in an ssh session to this one) did continue to update. When I quit top and tried "sudo service gdm stop" there was a password prompt, then a ~20 second wait, then a message reading "gdm stop/waiting" but the display on the frozen computer remained frozen. My "fix" for this in karmic was to use the 190 drivers instead of 195, but that package was taken out. I've tried removing plymouth but that hasn't solved it. That and my problem and 'fix' in karmic lead me to suspect the driver. [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 508737] Re: [gm45] samsung x360-aa03 backlight control does not work with KMS
Tried Lucid, alpha-2, x86_64. No improvement. Gnome indicator shows brightness changes, but no visual effect. I've build a kernel module, based on Greg Kroah-Hartman code http://lists.freedesktop.org/archives/intel-gfx/2009-August/003942.html which controls the brightness via SABI, installed it, booted kernel with acpi_backlight=vendor option, and got correct brightness control. The project at http://code.google.com/p/easy-slow-down-manager/ contains samsung-backlight module with this code. Maybe you could consider incorporating SABI support into the kernel (or at least ubuntu kernel)? I've came across lots of messages from Samsung laptop owners with the same problem. -- [gm45] samsung x360-aa03 backlight control does not work with KMS https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/508737 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to xserver-xorg-video-intel in ubuntu. ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp

Yes. One thing to note is the radeon driver in karmic has anti-tearing features when using XVideo. flgrx and older radeon don't have that. Well, next I'd like to forward this issue upstream, but first it must be retested on latest development version of Lucid to make sure the issue still happens there with the latest code. ISO images are available via http://www.ubuntu.com/testing/. If you can reproduce it in the LiveCD environment, you shouldn't need to modify your installed system. [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 525397] Re: [Arrandale] Crashes after login and compiz doesn't work
Arrandale is not supported on Karmic, which is why it used vesa. While you get reduced resolution in that case, it's the best that could be done. Support for this is improved in Lucid, although I'm not 100% certain every issue with Arrandale has been worked out, so please test alpha-3 when it's out in a couple days and let us know if there are remaining issues. [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 525354] Re: blank screen (and mouse) at startup with nouveau.
Let's focus this bug report on the blank screen issue. Sounds like just a vt mapping bug. For the crash, please file a separate bug report. Probably easiest thing would be to update to latest lucid, reproduce the crash, and let apport capture the trace. If that doesn't work for some reason, see http://wiki.ubuntu.com/X/Backtracing for a guide for manually collecting this info. ** Package changed: xorg (Ubuntu) => xserver-xorg-video-nouveau (Ubuntu) -- blank screen (and mouse) at startup with nouveau. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/525354 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to xserver-xorg-video-nouveau in ubuntu. ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp
[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 522937] Re: Black Screen of not death
The recent libdrm update solved a wide variety of freeze issues. Can you let us know if you've reproduced this freeze within the last day or so? If not, give it a few more days and let us know if the freeze happens again. If there's no further freezing within a few weeks we'll assume this was an instance of one of the freeze bugs libdrm fixed. Meanwhile, attach the Xorg.0.log as asked above since that'll help us categorize this better. If it does still occur, I added code to xserver recently which *should* auto-collect data we need for X freezes. If that triggers, please file a new bug using that, and close this report out. ** Changed in: xorg (Ubuntu) Status: Confirmed => Incomplete -- Black Screen of not death https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/522937 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to xorg in ubuntu. ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp
[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 519080] Re: Kernel update broke xorg configuration
Thanks for reporting this bug to help make Ubuntu better. I gather you had installed the driver from nvidia.com? If so, we don't support that configuration since that installation code is outside our control and who knows what havok it can cause. The good news is that for Lucid we've vastly improved the installation procedure for -nvidia and I strongly suspect what you experienced can no longer happen (at least not so easily). ** Changed in: xorg (Ubuntu) Status: Confirmed => Won't Fix -- Kernel update broke xorg configuration https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/519080 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to xorg in ubuntu. ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp
