[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 456902] Re: [i845G] Karmic stops responding a few minutes after log in

2010-03-02 Thread Brian Rogers
I could lower the delay, but if it froze we wouldn't know if that was
because a delay doesn't fix the problem or because the delay was too
short.

2010-03-02 Thread Flabdablet
12:2.7.0 and friends listed above just froze while looking at a Flash-
based web site, so I guess we're still looking at a driver issue, not a
mesa or libdrm2 one.

I don't have a Jaunty installer disc or any blanks here, but will burn
one before coming to work tomorrow if you think running an earlier
driver inside Karmic would be too fraught.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 510311] Re: Touchscreen working on Lucid Alpha 2, Breaks with Recent Upgrades

2010-03-02 Thread Bryce Harrington
I felt pretty presumptuous second guessing you when your little
finger knows more about X than I'll likely learn in the next decade!
Glad to hear I wasn't entirely insane (at least this time).

Triaging bugs is time consuming and tedious so I created scripts to do
it for me. However they're fairly imperfect.

xf86-input-wacom doesn't seem to have made it down the line yet, in
fact after updating and searching for wacom, it still only sees the
xserver-xorg-input-wacom package. I'm guessing it's just still on its
way. I'm in the process of doing a 50 package update at the moment
though, so I'll let you know how that goes.

xf86-input-wacom is the source package name. The binary name (which
shows up in the installer) is xserver-xorg-input-wacom (same as the old
driver).

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 530554] [NEW] video=sisfb on menu.list / grub.cfg no longer works Ubuntu Lucid

2010-03-02 Thread richs-lxh
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: xserver-xorg-video-sis

Acer Aspire 3004 WLMI
VGA compatible controller: Silicon Integrated Systems [SiS] 661/741/760 PCI/AGP
or 662/761Gx PCIE VGA Display Adapter

Persistent colour depth problem on all Debian based distros used to be
solved by adding video=sisfb as kernel argument on menu.list and later
grub.cfg.

This no longer works which probably means that the sis framebuffer isn't
auto loading.

Er, no, not sure. I was waiting for the patches to arrive and received the xorg
(1:7.5+1ubuntu9) update a couple of days ago. The changelog said (among other
things) debian/x11-common.links: Add xf86-input-evtouch and -wacom which
made me believe the patch were included. Sorry if my impatience paired with
inexperience made me jump the gun here.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 510004] Re: [lucid regression] random graphics effects after resume from suspend to RAM

2010-03-02 Thread Alex Murray
Downgrading to nvidia-current_190.53-0ubuntu14 unfortunately doesn't fix
this for me - see attached screen shot and notice white blocks behind
panel and docky windows.

At this stage since the release notes say:

Because of the new alternatives system used for nvidia driver packages,
the nvidia installer from NVIDIA's website currently doesn't work.

I am hesitant to even try installing 195.36.08 using the Nvidia
installer, so I am not to sure what to try next...

Out of interest after resuming from suspend with 190.53 I get the
following errors from the nvidia driver in dmesg:

NVRM: Xid (0002:00): 13, 0001 5097 0538 3f80 0080

Whilst with 195.36.03 I get the very similar:

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 432401] Re: [i915gm] Intel/KMS: Missing 1024 x 768 mode (regression from Jaunty)

2010-03-02 Thread Andreas Schildbach
@Chase:

Regarding 2) sometimes (very scarce) my BIOS is displayed on the
external monitor rather than the internal display. I think I used the
opportunity to have a look at my monitor overlay to verify the
resolution. I realize this is not very reliable, so if you really need
this information, please tell me how to verify it for sure.

At least I can say that 1024 x 768 was listed in 915resolution back when
this tool was still necessary.

3) I can switch between pixel-per-pixel and stretch in my notebook BIOS.
Right now, I am using pixel-by-pixel.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 528467] Re: [i855] GPU hung (drm i915 intel) on Lucid Lynx Alpha 3 live CD

2010-03-02 Thread Gero Mudersbach
Geir, the patch helped delaying the freeze and it was possible to switch
to another console. In the long run it didn't prevent the freeze. I
think it's still a flushing problem and the big hammer patch just
makes it happen less often.

Until now it wasn't possible for me to test it with Lucid. I will test
both and report back soon.

2010-03-02 Thread RdeWit
An extra comment: the many crashes that I mentioned in my initial report
have gone away after I replaced my memory modules.

This problem however has not ceased to exist and every once or twice a
week I get no monitor input (at all) on startup of X (boot menu shows up
fine) and need to reboot the computer.

After rebooting my apport tells me that Xorg had crashed, which is this
bug.

Yes, that is possible. Another possibility is that there is more than
one bug causing the GPU hangs and that the big hammer patch prevents
the flushing problems. If that is the case, troubleshooting with the
patch may help uncover the other problem.

Until now it wasn't possible for me to test it with Lucid. I will test
 both and report back soon.

Thank you!

on pluging in an external monitor, and pressing detect monitor, the new display
is detected, and the screen spans across it. compiz seems to automatically fall
back to metacity. apart from loss of desktop effects everything carries on
working. no crash.

if i run glxgears, and then resize its window, after it passes a certain
width the display of the gears is corrupted. but there is no crash.

seems that the freeze is fixed for me

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 530622] [NEW] After suspend, screen is dead until switching terminals

2010-03-02 Thread Bogdan Butnaru
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: xorg

Hello!

I recently updated to Lucid. I noticed this problem:

When I suspend the computer, everything seems OK. However, when I
resume, the screen remains turned off. I can see the system turned
on—for example, the numlock key turns the LED on and off—but the screen
doesn't turn on.

The only thing that seems to work is pressing Alt-F6 and then Alt-F7. I
tried pressing other keys (in case the problem was just the screensaver)
but that doesn't work. Neither Alt-F7 directly nor other Alt-F# followed
by Alt-F7 works.

Once the screen turns on (after Alt-F6 and Alt-F7), the password dialog
of the screensaver* comes up and I can continue my session. (* I have my
computer set up to lock the screen, but with no actual screensaver on
other than turning off the screen.)

Note that after the session resumes I experience bug #528138 which might
be related somehow.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 528138] Re: garbage on screen after suspend

2010-03-02 Thread Bogdan Butnaru
** Description changed:

  Binary package hint: xorg

  Hello!

I've just updated to Lucid*; the most visible change is that suspend
stopped working correctly. Actually, suspend works, but resuming seems
to have a problem. First, when resuming the screen doesn't turn on
- immediately; pressing the num-lock key the LED on the keyboard changes,
- however the monitor claims it doesn't receive any signal. I tried
- various tinkering with the keys. If I press Ctrl-Alt-F1 through to Ctrl-
- Alt-F7 the screen turns on and the screensaver's password dialog came
- up. That one works all the time; I tried shorter sequences, like just
- C-A-F1 then C-A-F7 and that didn't work. I've no idea what's going on.
+ immediately; I logged that bug as bug #530622.

Anyway, the main problem is that after I enter the password and return
to my desktop some pixmaps seem to have been replaced by garbage. I'll
attach a couple of screenshots that show this better than I can describe
  it. (I'm not sure if I should split the two problems in two bug reports;
for all I know they might be related.)

(*: note that this is a machine that has been dist-upgraded from at
least Edgy, so it might be a bit different from a new install. I don't
have access to a CD writer, so I can't test the live CD.)

In the first screenshot this is mostly visible in the desktop image. I
killed Nautilus and when it restarted the garbage was replaced by the
correct image. However, as can be seen in the second image, corruption
remains in programs that haven't yet been restarted (window shadows and
  icons are the most obvious).

I've assigned this provisionally to xorg, but I've no idea if it's
responsible. Note that as far as I can tell everything works pretty much
correctly (other than the obvious), in the sense that programs work and
I've not noticed crashes or the like even after a long time in this
“garbage” state. Everything goes back to correctness if I log out and
  then back in.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 523911] Re: [CLE266]Lucid Alpha graphical mode does not work on VIA EPIA MII (Chrome)

2010-03-02 Thread Johan Ehnberg
I have either an LCD over analog (=CRT in BIOS/xorg.conf) or PAL TV-
Out (CRT+TV set in BIOS) but not both connected at the same time.

The ActiveDevice option had no effect on the situation. However, this
time, modeSwitch did. I tried a few different settings with Alpha 3:

No xorg.conf (noxorg): failed as before
disabled acceleration, no modeSwitch (xorg1): failed as well
disabled acceleration, modeSwitch new (xorg2): worked!
my optimal setup, now only missing TV-Out pars (xorg3): worked!

I also tried removing DPMS and it still worked (I think it defaults to
it anyway).

Attaching confs and logs.

Maybe this new modeSwitch could be made the default for appropriate

Hi henneyng,

Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu
better. You reported this bug a while ago and there hasn't been any activity in
it recently. We were wondering is this still an issue for you? Can you try with
the latest development release of Ubuntu? (ISO CD images are available from
http://cdimage.ubuntu.com/releases/)

If it remains an issue, could you also attach a new /var/log/Xorg.0.log?
Thanks in advance.

Re: [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 456902] Re: [i845G] Karmic stops responding a few minutes after log in

2010-03-02 Thread John E.
Hello,

My experience with the graphics-fixes PPA was similar to flabdablet's --
unusably slow. In the 10 or so minutes it took to login and start a browser,
I got no actual freezes; just 30-to-60-second response delays for each mouse
click. With everything running at 1/100th usual speed, it might've taken
weeks to decide whether the driver was stable. (it usually takes a few hours
of use) Unfortunately I needed to use the machine so I did a hard reboot
reverted to regular Karmic.

Details: I used the graphics-fixes PPA starting from a regular Karmic, to
which I've reverted:
Intel 82852/855GM Integrated Graphics Device [8086:3582] (rev 02)
libdrm1-intel1 2.4.14-1ubuntu1
xserver-xorg-video-intel 2:2.9.0-1ubuntu2.1
libgl1-mesa-{glx,dri} 7.6.0-1ubuntu4
linux-{image,headers}-2.6.31-19-generic 2.6.31-19.56
(The unusably slow PPA kernel was
 linux-{image,headers}-2.6.31-50-generic 2.6.31-50.58)

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 530663] Re: Xorg assert failure: X: ../../src/i830_batchbuffer.h:79: intel_batch_emit_dword: Assertion `pI830-batch_ptr != ((void *)0)' failed.

2010-03-02 Thread PeggySue
*** This bug is a duplicate of bug 447159 ***
https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/447159

I see the error message as being a duplicate but the procedure to
generate the bug is different. #447159 is a suspend problem. The only
action performed on this computer after a clean install is to work with
the screensaver. Suspend was never used.

I would be grateful if someone could reconsider if calling this report a
duplicate doesn't hide useful information. It appears that an automated
service reclassified the bug.
