[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 534229] Re: Xorg crashes randomly
This happened today once more, now only 2 mins after logging in and using Firefox. Strange thing this time was that Xorg.0.log.old did not contain any backtrace. [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 529563] Re: Lucid Alpha3 live cd failing to boot properly, monitor powers off during boot.
I've been trying to boot my workstation off of network, the screen goes into powersaving mode. I can see it change mode for a second before it goes dark. I don't know whether the rest of my workstation works, I presume it doesn't (this also happened to me during a routine upgrade, before which nouveau used to work perfectly, and afterwards I couldn't ssh in, or use nfs, whereas before I normally could). I suspect that it has something to do with nouveau drivers. I tried lucid alpha 3 amd64, and then lucid daily amd64, both have the same result. Kernel options I use are pretty generic: LABEL ubuntu-live-1004-amd64 kernel ubuntu-live-1004-amd64/vmlinuz append initrd=ubuntu-live-1004-amd64/initrd.lz boot=casper netboot=nfs nfsroot=192.168.0.1:/mnt/ubuntu-live-1004-amd64 -- I am able to boot the 9.10 amd64 just fine. [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 531594] Re: xorg crash failed to map pixmap -85
Well, this error message is produced inside the xserver-xorg-video- radeon driver, but it seems to occur due to a fault in the libdrm radeon_bo_map() call. My best guess is something going wrong deeper down in the kernel drm. The kernel team is rolling out a new -16 kernel which contains a backport of the .33 drm. When you get a chance, please install and test this kernel and report back here whether it's still an issue or not. [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 533639] Re: Samsung SyncMaster 920N monitor resolution not correctly detected
Yes, sounds likely to be a broken monitor emitting incorrect EDID information. It looks like you're using a configuration where modesetting is done by the kernel rather than X so reassigning to the kernel. Probably there is a quirk for your monitor in the xserver which wasn't taken into the kernel. The steps for troubleshooting this class of problem are well documented at http://wiki.ubuntu.com/X/ on the Troubleshooting and Quirks guides; in particular you should gather an EDID dump. The docs explain some common issues with monitor EDID that you can examine. ** Package changed: xorg-server (Ubuntu) = linux (Ubuntu) ** Changed in: linux (Ubuntu) Status: Confirmed = Incomplete -- Samsung SyncMaster 920N monitor resolution not correctly detected https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/533639 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to xorg-server in ubuntu. ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 533742] Re: Xorg crashed while typing into web page form
None of the files included in your report show any evidence of a crash. If you're seeing a crash, you need to collect a full backtrace. If you're not seeing a crash but actually an X freeze, then you need to collect a GPU dump. In theory apport should do this for you automatically; if not for some reason, it can be done automatically - see relevant pages at http://wiki.ubuntu.com/X/. It's also possible you're just seeing bug #532047 which is actually caused by plymouth, but your terse problem description makes it hard to judge. Review that bug and if it does sound like your issue, you can work around it by disabling or uninstalling plymouth. ** Changed in: xorg-server (Ubuntu) Status: Confirmed = Invalid -- Xorg crashed while typing into web page form https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/533742 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to xorg-server in ubuntu. ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp
[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 534129] Re: Lucid 2.6.32-16 crash while entering bug report - Failed to submit batchbuffer: Input/output error
Thanks Jerry, we actually use the same apport hook for xorg-server as for all the other X components, so ubuntu-bug xorg-server would not provide any different information than you've already provided. The bug seems to not actually be a crash but rather an abnormal xserver exit, with an error message, Failed to submit batchbuffer: Input/output error. This sounds like a bug in the kernel drm. [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 201032] Re: DPI not set or incorrectly set to 96
These LPL monitors are known for having busted EDID values, I recall a number of quirks for them was added to the xserver. However since you're using kernel modesetting, I think maybe some of those quirks did not get ported over to the kernel, thus you're seeing the regression. IIRC, at one point seb128 added an override to force dpi to 96x96 in GNOME, which is why it started working. Anyway, now that this code is in the kernel, I'm reassigning to linux. They can check if your quirk has been included in the kernel now. [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 534469] Re: Failed to load NVIDIA 195.36.08 kernel modules because nouveau is loading.
Hello Carlos, Is your /usr partition on a separate drive? If it is then you should probably see 'WARNING: Failed to open config file nvidia-graphics-drivers.conf: No such file or directory. This actually means that / got mounted with /etc/modprobe.d/nvidia-graphics-drivers.conf pointing to /etc/alternatives/nvidia_modconf which in turn pointed to /usr/lib/nvidia-current/modprobe.conf but /usr was not yet mounted at that time. The workaround is to remove the symlink /etc/modprobe.d/nvidia-graphics- drivers.conf and copy the contents of /usr/lib/nvidia- current/modprobe.conf to /etc/modprobe.d/nvidia-graphics-drivers.conf as a regular file, i.e.: # rm /etc/modprobe.d/nvidia-graphics-drivers.conf # cp /usr/lib/nvidia-current/modprobe.conf /etc/modprobe.d/nvidia-graphics-drivers.conf -- Failed to load NVIDIA 195.36.08 kernel modules because nouveau is loading. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/534469 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to nvidia-graphics-drivers in ubuntu. ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp
Re: [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 348914] Re: Display intermittently fails on login with Samsung 205BW
Dear Bryce, Thank you for your email. The bug us still an issue (I am now using 9.10) although it is somewhat different behaviour than when I first reported it. Note it only occurs upon power-up or reboot, so I tend to leave my PC on standby each time so the display is guaranteed and this is my work-around. The symptoms are on power-up that in say 30% of cases it struggles to 'see ' the display (other times it does work OK but takes longer than it should). When it fails, the monitor either remains dark or sometimes has a fine 'snow' affect akin to fine white noise (desktop icons all present). It then tries to recover by 'blanking off' display drivers for a few sec's and tries again. It either recovers after sometime (e.g a couple of minutes) OR I grow impatient and switch off monitor and on again (which only helps occasionally) or reboot. I recall reading on a forum that this was due to the way the Samsung 205 reported its state, if I can find this page I will forward link. When I return to my office (I am away) I will forward the Xorg file as requested. Thanks again (and despite hiccups, I am sold on Linux and Ubuntu!) [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 535010] Re: [gm45] GPU lockup during MI_WAIT_FOR_EVENT Display Pipe B Scan Line Window Wait Enable (0x01800020)
Thank you for reporting this bug. There has been a major update of the kernel code responsible from the graphics execution, so could you do one of the following: 1. (easy for you, hopefully good enough for upstream) Update to kernel 2.6.32-16 (and any other updates to get an updated Lucid). File a new bug report the same way as you did with this if it is still present. 2. (a little harder, better for troubleshooting) Install and boot the newest mainline kernel drm-intel-next from [1] (see [2] for instructions). Reproduce the problem. ssh into the computer and copy the file /sys/kernel/debug/dri/0/i915_error_state. File a bug report the same way as you did with this if it is still present (I guess it pops up next time you boot). Attach the copied i915_error_state to the bug report (it may be different from the i915_error_state that is automatically uploaded). Someone out there more knowledgeable about the Linux kernel may be able to advise why a new kernel breaks the ATI drivers. Hope this helps. [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 365994] Re: [i915] X freeze due to end of aperture kernel issue
Yes, the freeze still exists in Karmic, but it comes from another bug. I'm marking this one as Fix Released for Linux, since a fix was released via Intel X.org/Linux developers. I've continued tracking the problem upstream, and you can have a look at http://bugs.freedesktop.org/show_bug.cgi?id=26974 if you are interested. [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 535027] [NEW] X bug during boot == Ctrl+Alt+F1==Ctrl+Alt+F7
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: xorg I think the package linked to this bug is xorg, but I'm not sure. Since this happened during apport-collect 526367 I assume you first: 1) Power off and close Laptop (T61 or x61) 2) Place laptop in docking station 3) Turn on laptop via docking station power button 4) Login and start a session 5) Press the undock button 6) Remove laptop from docking station, laptop will suspend 7) Resume laptop, but it will go back to sleep (not subject of this bug report) 8) Resume laptop second time 9) Laptop built-in display will stay black There is a similar report at bug 535010, which also involves undocking, so this may be the key. -- [i965gm] GPU lockup during MI_WAIT_FOR_EVENT Display Pipe A Scan Line Window Wait Enable (0x0182) https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/535026 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to xserver-xorg-video-intel in ubuntu. ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 535142] [NEW] 82815.i810 with GDM: endless loop of logins
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: xserver-xorg-video-intel This seems similar to the i845/Karmic bugs above. I have an 82815 controller with an i810 card using a Gateway ev910monitor. Up until now this has never happened with an install of Ubuntu. When using the GDM at 1280:1024 resolution, regardless if the GL support is installed or not installed, the login screen continues to loop back to the initial name input level a various number of times. Trying different input methods like other and using the abbreviated name instead of the full name appears to work but not always. The loop continues as many as a dozen or more times or as little as 2 or three times. In order to circumvent this I installed the XDM and performed reconfigure of the GDM using the xterm in the panel at the base of the login screen. There seemed to be no gripe about the xterm screen except it was really tiny and up and off to the left. The XDM had no issues on login and gave me a huge old Welcome to Debian Panel which seemed to have no issues. The message I get has various numbers at the front which change for each loop but the following part of the message when looping is always the same.i810_Wait_Ring: Lockup *ERROR* space 65520 wanted 65528. I removed the xorg package as it kept having the libdrm-radeon1 and the libgl1-mesa-dri after the situation got worse. It does seem to want to call the i910 instead of the i810. ** Affects: xserver-xorg-video-intel (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New -- 82815.i810 with GDM: endless loop of logins https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/535142 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to xserver-xorg-video-intel in ubuntu. ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp
