alway present in xorg.0.log but with the 2.10.9xx the problem is resolved.

2010/3/29 Robert Hooker sarv...@gmail.com

keyboard, pick layouts, then options, and enable the key sequence to
kill the X server option, and finally press control+alt+backspace

 Bug description:
 Binary package hint: xserver-xorg-video-intel

After upgrading to Karmic (alpha) my graphics driver is unable to provide
Xv. The following line is printed in Xorg.0.log:

(WW) intel(0): Disabling Xv because no adaptors could be initialized.

I've tried various settings in xorg.conf, with no luck. (XvPreferOverlay,
 Tiling).

 [Update]

 From the Q4 anouncment [1]:
Video overlay support with KMS is now supported in xserver-xorg-video-intel
2.10.0. This currently requires Linux 2.6.33, but a backport to 2.6.32
(Lucid version) is available from [2]. Daniel Vetter intends to support
this backport which is intended for distros that use kernel 2.6.32 [3].
Although the main code is in the kernel, intel driver 2.10.0 is apparently
 required [4].

Re: [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 550477] Re: 1920 x 1080 HD displays outside frame of screen.

2010-03-29 Thread Neil Wilson
That's the thing though. The screen is a 1080p screen.
(Or it's a limitation of the video card - which can't drive the higher
setting. I can't tell which).

The resolution selector doesn't state whether the resolution is 1080i
or 1080p, and perhaps it should. See bug 550486 about the failure to
identify the screen correctly.

On 28 March 2010 22:14, Robert Hooker sarv...@gmail.com wrote:
compensate for overscan somewhere in the menus. 1360x768 is the
preferred mode to use though if the alternative is 1920x1080i and not
1920x1080p, it is the native resolution of your screen and will be
 sharper.

On the Marvell dove platform, we need to try and detect for the dovefb

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 507233] Re: NVIDIA - Xorg crashes (empty backtrace) with segfault OR general protection in ld-2.10.1.so

2010-03-29 Thread Amy Wilson
I seem to have fixed it by uninstalling, and downgrading the driver to
173. Not ideal, but stable :|.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 314600] Re: [HD 3650] fglrx versions newer than 8.543 cause system hang and panic

Still the case in the current Lucid. The system locks up hard the moment
X tries to start, but only when the fglrx driver is selected in
xorg.conf. AMD64 here. Please un-decline the nomination for lucid.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 341741] Re: New characters in Lao keymap

2010-03-29 Thread Arne Goetje
@Anousak:
Is the proposed keyboard layout OK? If yes, I can submit a patch to Ubuntu
before 9.04 release. Is it better to keep the new keyboard layout separated, so
that users can choose, or shall I just overwrite the existing Lao layout? Shall
the name be changed?

@Brian (bountonw): If you have problems with word-wrapping or anything
else language related, it would be great if you could test these issues
with the latest ISO images of Ubuntu Lucid, and keep a wikipage on
wiki.ubuntu.com to track those issues. Also, if you notice specific
applications or packages misbehaving, please consider filing bug reports
against those packages (or Ubuntu, if you don't know which package is
of fault) and describe the issues as detailed as possible (what is
expected? What is actually displayed? screenshots, steps to reproduce
the problem, documents to illustrate and test the issue, etc.)

This would help us greatly to improve Lao language support in Ubuntu.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 456902] Re: [i845g] Karmic stops responding a few minutes after log in

2010-03-29 Thread Flabdablet
Brian: after the last freeze, I accidentally rebooted into your patched
kernel (2.6.31-50-generic) and ran it for a while with the same packages
as in comment #200, and it also froze while I was using remote desktop
viewer. So it looks like even that kernel's horrible GUI sloth doesn't
actually prevent the freeze.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 341741] Re: New characters in Lao keymap

2010-03-29 Thread Anousak
Arne,

The only issue right is now is add two combined characters:
 0EDC ໝLAO HO NO = 0EAB ຫ 0E99 ນ
 0EDD ໜ LAO HO MO = 0EAB ຫ 0EA1 ມ

For these or any other combined vowel and tonemark that was done through
proriety softwar cannot be done through xkb (such as it has some
limitations as mentioned).

Quote:
For example:
The key 'SHIFT+A' in the proposed standard has the combination U+0EB1 followed
by U+0EC9 (LAO VOWEL SIGN MAI KAN + LAO TONE MAI THO). You can get the same
result by pressing 'A' (LAO VOWEL SIGN MAI KAN), followed by the key 'H' (LAO
TONE MAI THO).

Arne said:
shall I just overwrite the existing Lao layout?
I will submit the new xkb with minor changes and it can be replaced the old one.

regards,
Anousak

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 515679] Re: Luit hangs on process exit

2010-03-29 Thread Geir Ove Myhr
This bug has now been fixed, since 7.5+3 is now in Lucid (and I verified
that it works).

x11-utils (7.5+3) unstable; urgency=low

  [ Brice Goglin ]
  * luit 1.0.5.
+ check for POLLERR|POLLHUP in WaitForInput, closes: #560787.

  [ Julien Cristau ]
  * Pull newer xsfbs, adding README.source.
  * Move dh_makeshlibs before dh_installdeb (not that we're building a shared
library, but this makes lintian happier).
  * debian/rules: add get-tarballs target.
  * Add watch files.
  * Bump Standards-Version to 3.8.4.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 550410] Re: Intel Arrandale Video Corruption (Unusable)

2010-03-29 Thread Geir Ove Myhr
Thank you for spotting the upstream bug report, I was going to ask you
to test with the xorg-edgers PPA since that has a newer driver and the
issue could have been fixed there, but since the upstram report is with
current git, that shouldn't be necessary. You may give kernel 2.6.34-rc1
or drm-intel-next from http://kernel.ubuntu.com/~kernel-
ppa/mainline/?C=M;O=D a try, but I doubt it will work. But if it does,
it will be valuable information for upstream. Information about the
mainline kernels is available at
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/KernelTeam/MainlineBuilds .

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 495121] Re: Compiz crashes on unlocking screensaver

2010-03-29 Thread Robbob
I'm getting it too. It wouldn't be so bad if I could restart it.
Although compiz --replace does restart compiz I lose the gnome title
and footer tiles so it's no use. I end up having to do a 'metacity
--replace' so I don't have to shutdown all apps, reboot and start them
all again.

Using Preferences/Visual Effects doesn't work either - just behaves the
same way as compiz --replace.

It seems to have increased in frequency over the last couple of months.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 507233] Re: NVIDIA - Xorg crashes (empty backtrace) with segfault OR general protection in ld-2.10.1.so

2010-03-29 Thread Anders Aagaard
See http://www.nvnews.net/vbulletin/showthread.php?t=142946

My workaround on alienware m15x with gtx 260m is every startup/every
suspend2ram cycle switch to vt1 back to active vt and click the stealth
mode button on my alienware on and off. I'm guessing this is enough to
reset settings.

On a side note I've lost all respect for nvidia, this made my computer
useless for months and I've had no reply from nvidia. While threads with
multi gpu/multi head issues gets replies within a days.

lykwydchykyn, there is a patched version of xserver-xorg-video-intel in
my standard PPA: https://launchpad.net/~gomyhr/+archive/standard . This
fixes one problem which leads to freezes on 845G. There are probably
remaining bugs that causes freezes, but it would be nice to get some
feedback on whether the PPA version improves the situation and how much.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 546933] Re: FFE: xorg.conf.d/inputclass backport

2010-03-29 Thread Timo Aaltonen
So the wacom rules had obsolete cruft in it, same as with the other
drivers right now. Those will get cleaned when this hits the distros
(sooner or later).

I've uploaded a new xserver which unbreaks the ABI by renaming the
inputclass-aware NewInputDeviceRequest() to NIDR18(), and added NIDR()
back (it just returns NIDR18() with the added NULL for inputclass attrs,
as suggested by jcristau). NIDR18() is only used internally by the udev
backend, and it's not exported as server ABI.

There's also a new wacom too which again includes the check for the new
ABI, because with this xserver any upstream xf86-input-wacom release
will continue to build, without any driver patching required. Wacom uses
NIDR() to add the extra devices, and even with the new ABI it would just
pass NULL to inputclass (because only the master device needs it anyway,
and that's handled internally by the udev backend), so no functionality
is lost there.

This is a logfile from the X61 tablet with a serial wacom, using the
ppa-test packages. As you can see the wacom is loaded fine, also the
eraser which is loaded using the old NIDR() which calls NIDR18().

So, with that working Julien has basically approved this:
