[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 554296] Re: Fonts chipped with subpixel hinting enabled on NV46 (G72M Quadro NVS 110M, GeForce Go 7300)
I might also add that I am seeing the same thing with the nouveau driver and subpixel hinting enabled, and when I switch to the closed nvidia driver I'm not sure how to describe it but in openoffice and gvim I am seeing blocky font corruption when subpixel hinting is enabled. If I switch back to best contrast, everything returns to normal. [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 383345] Re: [i945gm] dual screen not working with virtual resolution enabled: just a blank screen with a mouse pointer
@Jakob: yes, the limit is 2048x2048 But 2048 is the maximum size of a texture. that means that texture CAN BE 2048. 2049 is 1px over the maximum. Anyone with 945 can test it with intrepid live CD. [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 560530] [NEW] Main menu's submenus jump back up after scrolling down
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: xorg What happens: Using a mouse, I enter the System, then Preferences, menu from the 'main menu' applet in the toolbar (the compact applet which is a single ubuntu icon - not the one with apps, places and system as separate main menus). The height of the preferences menu exceeds the screen height so a small triangle at the bottom allows me to scroll down if I hover over it. The problem is, having scrolled, if I then move my mouse up to select, say, 'Startup Applications', then the menu instantly jumps back to the top. A workaround is to select using cursor keys. What should happen: After scrolling down, the menu should remain at the position I leave it once I move the mouse cursor away from the down triangle tab. Using the 10.04 beta. Thanks! GDM is running properly, no errors reported in Xorg.0.log, so driver says everything ok. Setting the system to Stand By mode within the test pattern screen, an waking it up again solves the Problem until the next start of GDM. I had the same Problem with Ubuntu 9.10. You have been subscribed to a public bug: I downloaded the beta 2 ISO from the servers and made a LiveCD for fresh install of 10.04. I did a few things like nomodeset and pci=nomsi but nothing does. The later one sends the monitor into power saving mode and the only way out is a hard reboot. I tried to drop to the terminal when the screen starts to flicker and ran #dmesg | grep drm and there are error messages related to my graphics card. [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 560056] Re: Lucid beta 2 unbootable from LiveCD/LiveUSB
I think this is caused by the open source ATI drivers. This is how I managed to bypass the problem, if anyone else has the same issue: Get a liveCd/LiveUSB and boot normally without any options. Let plymouth do its work and once you get to the stage that the GPU is being reset every few seconds press Ctrl+Alt+F1 to drop to terminal and execute the following commands: #sudo stop gdm #sudo nano /etc/X11/xorg.conf Type in the following set of commands then save and exit. # /etc/X11/xorg.conf Section Device Identifier Configured Video Device Driver fbdev EndSection Section Monitor Identifier Configured Monitor EndSection Section Screen Identifier Default Screen Monitor Configured Monitor Device Configured Video Device EndSection[ This would tell X to use framebuffer instead of the actual drivers for your graphics card. After saving the file all you need to do is to run #sudo start gdm And you will get the LiveCD desktop and you can install from there. After it is finished you can restart your computer and either use the same xorg.conf file or install the official ATI drivers and let them take over. Whatever you do though don't just use the open source drivers because you won't be able to boot and have to do all the above steps again. ** Package changed: linux (Ubuntu) = xserver-xorg-video-ati (Ubuntu) -- Lucid beta 2 unbootable from LiveCD/LiveUSB https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/560056 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to xserver-xorg-video-ati in ubuntu. ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 560570] [NEW] fglrx fails to identify attached monitor, displays blank screen
Public bug reported: After installing fglrx 2:8.721.0ubuntu10 on Lucid Lynx beta 1 and running 'aticonfig --initial', X (1.7.5) only displays a blank screen (system is running, can be ssh'ed in). This is the same effect experienced on a prior Karmic Koala installation with an older version of the driver. On the other hand, xorg's radeon driver runs properly (albeit without GL acceleration). When running 'aticonfig --query-monitor', I get the following output: Default Adapter - ATI Radeon HD 5400 Series # Connected monitors: none Enabled monitors: none If I run xrandr when using xorg's radeon driver, the display is detected: Screen 0: minimum 320 x 200, current 1680 x 1050, maximum 1680 x 1680 HDMI-0 disconnected (normal left inverted right x axis y axis) DVI-0 connected 1680x1050+0+0 (normal left inverted right x axis y axis) 434mm x 270mm 1680x1050 59.9*+ 1280x1024 75.0 60.0 1152x864 75.0 1024x768 75.0 60.0 800x60075.0 60.3 640x48075.0 59.9 720x40070.1 VGA-0 disconnected (normal left inverted right x axis y axis) The card is a Saphire Radeon HD 5450 (512 DDR3 model) with 3 outputs: DVI, HDMI and VGA. The DVI output is connected to a DELL 2005 FPW monitor, with 1680x1050 native resolution. Please advice if any other information is necessary. [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 553401] Re: typo in some symbol files in xkb-data
With [ grep -R ^[[:space:]]*include.*; ] command either on /usr/share/X11/xkb/symbols or on the same in the xkb-data directory in teh deb pacakge (as in comment #7) we find the bug causing trailing semi colons are in 12 lines. Searching in the source package which is xkeyboard-config-1.8 I found that this set of bugs are all caused from the patch file : xkeyboard-config-1.8/debian/patches/112_zero-with-spacing.patch The following grep from the relevant current directory confirmed this : /xkb-data-bld/xkeyboard-config-1.8/debian/patches$ grep -e include ./* |grep ; ./112_zero-with-spacing.patch:+ include nbsp(zwnj3zwj4); ./112_zero-with-spacing.patch:+ include nbsp(zwnj3zwj4); ./112_zero-with-spacing.patch:+include ir(pes_part_basic); ./112_zero-with-spacing.patch:+include ir(pes_part_ext); ./112_zero-with-spacing.patch:+include nbsp(zwnj2nb3nnb4); ./112_zero-with-spacing.patch:+include level3(ralt_switch); ./112_zero-with-spacing.patch:+include ir(pes_part_basic); ./112_zero-with-spacing.patch:+include ir(pes_part_keypad); ./112_zero-with-spacing.patch:+include nbsp(zwnj2nb3nnb4); ./112_zero-with-spacing.patch:+include level3(ralt_switch); ./112_zero-with-spacing.patch:+ include nbsp(zwnj2nb3s); ./112_zero-with-spacing.patch:+include nbsp(zwnj2); So I edited that patch file to remove those 12 trailing semi-colons and with the addition of my signature to Debian changelog and version number change for my PPA, I used debuild for building source changes for uploading to PPA's build farm. [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 560072] Re: ia-185-kernel-source 185.18.36-0ubuntu9 failed to install/upgrade:package nvid
I'm sorry but there is no such file. Maybe this is because i had some trouble after rebooting when the upgrade was finished. At first i tried to run the computer as normal but instead of the log-in-screen there was a dialog-box where i could select whether i want low-graphics or some other things (i don't remember). But unfortunately only the upper half of the window was on the screen so i couldn't confirm my selection. So I rebooted again and selected netroot in the recovery mode. Googleing how to install nvidia on 9.10 told me to type in: sudo add-apt-repository ppa:nvidia-vdpau/ppa To be honest i don't know what i've done but it worked. [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 560672] [NEW] odd purple flecks and lines appear
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: xserver-xorg-video-ati There are little purple flecks flashing across my screen and once in a while a line shoots all the way across, as if I was watching a TV that was getting some interference, but displaying a picture. If I install the fglrx drive (my video card is an ATI Mobility HD 3470), the purple flecks and lines go away, but then it is not smooth when I move my windows around (as i anticipated since ATI dropped support for my card in fglrx a little while back). I tried to screen shot the screen corruption, but the flecks do not appear in the screen shots. [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 553789] Re: X freeze/crash with noveau driver
My new laptop does exactly the same thing even though I haven't gathered any info the behavior is the same. I have the problem that I can't use the NonFree nvidia module since it doesn't support my nVidia GT330M chip. I check with nVidia and they don't provide any driver (stable or beta) and if I install the driver jockey want's me to install it just makes X screw up upon reboot. By screw up I mean, it says that the video configuration is not valid or something like that and then i can chose between a few options what to do. I'm running Kubuntu 10.04 beta 2 but the same problem happens on Ubuntu 10.04 beta 2 ofc. I do realize that I can't really complain since it's beta :-) but my feeling is the driver wont change much untill 10.04 LTS stable comes out. -- X freeze/crash with noveau driver https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/553789 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to xserver-xorg-video-nouveau in ubuntu. ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp
