[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 554296] Re: Fonts chipped with subpixel hinting enabled on NV46 (G72M Quadro NVS 110M, GeForce Go 7300)

2010-04-11 Thread karlbowden
I might also add that I am seeing the same thing with the nouveau driver and
subpixel hinting enabled, and when I switch to the closed nvidia driver I'm not
sure how to describe it but in openoffice and gvim I am seeing blocky font
corruption when subpixel hinting is enabled.
If I switch back to best contrast, everything returns to normal.
See attached screen shots.

I just upgraded to 10.4 and I still have this issue (Dell Inspiron 11z).

What can we do to encourage developers to fix it? our laptops are not
usable without configuring this touch pad.

- Testing kubuntu 10.04 beta-1 produced the same error with a segmentation

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 383345] Re: [i945gm] dual screen not working with virtual resolution enabled: just a blank screen with a mouse pointer

2010-04-11 Thread jayprakash
@Jakob:
yes,
the limit is 2048x2048
But 2048 is the maximum size of a texture. that means that texture CAN BE 2048.
2049 is 1px over the maximum.

Anyone with 945 can test it with intrepid live CD. Compiz WILL WORK on
2048x786 dual screen.

This bug is not about disabling compiz at 2048,
but about some mathematical problem with maximum size of a texture.

I'd bet somebody on i965 would have the same problem on 4096 size of a
screen.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 560530] [NEW] Main menu's submenus jump back up after scrolling down

2010-04-11 Thread themuddler
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: xorg

What happens:

Using a mouse, I enter the System, then Preferences, menu from the 'main
menu' applet in the toolbar (the compact applet which is a single ubuntu
icon - not the one with apps, places and system as separate main menus).
The height of the preferences menu exceeds the screen height so a small
triangle at the bottom allows me to scroll down if I hover over it. The
problem is, having scrolled, if I then move my mouse up to select, say,
'Startup Applications', then the menu instantly jumps back to the top.
A workaround is to select using cursor keys.

What should happen:

After scrolling down, the menu should remain at the position I leave it
once I move the mouse cursor away from the down triangle tab.

Using the 10.04 beta. Thanks!

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 559201] Re: Black screen at bootup

2010-04-11 Thread pschorre
In my system turns the screen black after grub menu. It takes about 20 sec.
until anything happens and I am not sure whether the bootup runs normal. All in
all bootup (grub menu until KDE Login takes 60 sec., the 8.04 kubuntu takes 45
sec.). Turning quiet and splash off does not fasten the bootup, but I see the a
part of the kernel and system messages.

2010-04-11 Thread Geir Ove Myhr
In relation to normal Ubuntu releases, is it expected that 10.04 LTS
final will ship with this kernel, or some other (newer?) kernel that
 includes these fixes?

There will be more fixes, but at this time only fixes that are well tested and
are confirmed to fix bugs that affect Ubuntu users get in. Actually,
2.6.32-20.29 is already out. You can see the full changelog at
https://launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux/+changelog . The patch that fixed
this problem (and many other similar problems) in -19.28 is probably

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 374090] Re: [VX800] Samsung NC20 installation problem(test pattern on screen)

2010-04-11 Thread Andreas Waigel
Same Problem with the10.04/i386 Version. I have the display test pattern screen
AFTER the Setup instead of GDM on my NC20 (Setup is running properly). GDM is
running properly, no errors reported in Xorg.0.log, so driver says everything
ok. Setting the system to Stand By mode within the test pattern screen, an
waking it up again solves the Problem until the next start of GDM.
I had the same Problem with Ubuntu 9.10. Installing the openchrome
0.2.904~svn814 release solved the problem for Ubuntu 9.10. It seems that the
new svn827 brings this bug back into the release.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 560056] [NEW] Lucid beta 2 unbootable from LiveCD/LiveUSB

2010-04-11 Thread Launchpad Bug Tracker
You have been subscribed to a public bug:

I downloaded the beta 2 ISO from the servers and made a LiveCD for fresh
install of 10.04. The boot process is carried out until near the end,
the purple plymouth screen goes away and then all I get is flickering
screen with lines running across it. I did a few things like nomodeset
and pci=nomsi but nothing does. The later one sends the monitor into
power saving mode and the only way out is a hard reboot.

I tried to drop to the terminal when the screen starts to flicker and
ran

#dmesg | grep drm

and there are error messages related to my graphics card. Seems like for
some reason the GPU is being reset every few seconds. See the screen
shot attached for the exact error messages.

I'm trying to boot Lucid on system which includes:

Interl i5
ATI Radeon HD4730
4GB RAM
Dual monitor

I tried to install Ubuntu 9.04 from after downloading it from
http://www.ubuntu.com/getubuntu/download a couple of days ago (week of
8th May 2009). Since I do not have a CD rom drive, i used UNetBooting to
create a bootable USB from the ISO image. While booting I got the
options menu. I chose default. I could see the Ubuntu logo with a
horizontal bar for some time. Then the screen blurred. I could see some
blurred image of Ubuntu on the screen. I had to stop installation there.
Then I tried to give boot switches in the first(and only) menu. I tried
vga=771 and fb=off. But they did not work. The screen resolution is
1280x800 for which I do not see a number. From web I could get a number
of 640x400, that also did not work. The same thing happened with Xubuntu
9.04. Then I changed to Ubuntu 8.04LTS. This time I could get the
windows (is it Xwindows?) I clicked on install. It worked and I could
take it through complete installation. But now the WLAN is not detected
  (it could be another bug).

This bug is about getting the correct display during installation boot.
Could you do anything? Please let me know how I could help.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 560056] Re: Lucid beta 2 unbootable from LiveCD/LiveUSB

2010-04-11 Thread Sennaista
I think this is caused by the open source ATI drivers. This is how I
managed to bypass the problem, if anyone else has the same issue:

Get a liveCd/LiveUSB and boot normally without any options. Let plymouth
do its work and once you get to the stage that the GPU is being reset
every few seconds press Ctrl+Alt+F1 to drop to terminal and execute the
following commands:

#sudo stop gdm

#sudo nano /etc/X11/xorg.conf

Type in the following set of commands then save and exit.

# /etc/X11/xorg.conf
Section Device
Identifier Configured Video Device
Driver fbdev
EndSection

Section Monitor
Identifier Configured Monitor
EndSection

Section Screen
Identifier Default Screen
Monitor Configured Monitor
Device Configured Video Device
EndSection[

This would tell X to use framebuffer instead of the actual drivers for
your graphics card. After saving the file all you need to do is to run

#sudo start gdm

And you will get the LiveCD desktop and you can install from there.
After it is finished you can restart your computer and either use the
same xorg.conf file or install the official ATI drivers and let them
take over. Whatever you do though don't just use the open source drivers
because you won't be able to boot and have to do all the above steps
again.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 560570] [NEW] fglrx fails to identify attached monitor, displays blank screen

2010-04-11 Thread Manuel Sanchez
Public bug reported:

After installing fglrx 2:8.721.0ubuntu10 on Lucid Lynx beta 1 and
running 'aticonfig --initial', X (1.7.5) only displays a blank screen
(system is running, can be ssh'ed in). This is the same effect
experienced on a prior Karmic Koala installation with an older version
of the driver. On the other hand, xorg's radeon driver runs properly
(albeit without GL acceleration).

When running 'aticonfig --query-monitor', I get the following output:
Default Adapter - ATI Radeon HD 5400 Series
# Connected monitors: none
  Enabled monitors: none

If I run xrandr when using xorg's radeon driver, the display is detected:
Screen 0: minimum 320 x 200, current 1680 x 1050, maximum 1680 x 1680
HDMI-0 disconnected (normal left inverted right x axis y axis)
DVI-0 connected 1680x1050+0+0 (normal left inverted right x axis y axis) 434mm

   640x48075.0 59.9
   720x40070.1
VGA-0 disconnected (normal left inverted right x axis y axis)

The card is a Saphire Radeon HD 5450 (512 DDR3 model) with 3 outputs:
DVI, HDMI and VGA. The DVI output is connected to a DELL 2005 FPW
monitor, with 1680x1050 native resolution.

Please advice if any other information is necessary.

Regards

Manuel

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 553401] Re: typo in some symbol files in xkb-data

2010-04-11 Thread K. Sethu
With [ grep -R ^[[:space:]]*include.*; ] command either on
/usr/share/X11/xkb/symbols or on the same in the xkb-data directory in
teh deb pacakge (as in comment #7) we find the bug causing trailing semi
colons are in 12 lines. Searching in the source package which is
xkeyboard-config-1.8 I found that this set of bugs are all caused from
the patch file :

xkeyboard-config-1.8/debian/patches/112_zero-with-spacing.patch

The following grep from the relevant current directory confirmed this :

/xkb-data-bld/xkeyboard-config-1.8/debian/patches$ grep -e include ./* |grep
;
./112_zero-with-spacing.patch:+ include nbsp(zwnj3zwj4);
./112_zero-with-spacing.patch:+  include nbsp(zwnj3zwj4);
./112_zero-with-spacing.patch:+include ir(pes_part_basic);
./112_zero-with-spacing.patch:+include ir(pes_part_ext);
./112_zero-with-spacing.patch:+include nbsp(zwnj2nb3nnb4);
./112_zero-with-spacing.patch:+include level3(ralt_switch);
./112_zero-with-spacing.patch:+include ir(pes_part_basic);
./112_zero-with-spacing.patch:+include ir(pes_part_keypad);
./112_zero-with-spacing.patch:+include nbsp(zwnj2nb3nnb4);
./112_zero-with-spacing.patch:+include level3(ralt_switch);
./112_zero-with-spacing.patch:+  include nbsp(zwnj2nb3s);
./112_zero-with-spacing.patch:+include nbsp(zwnj2);

So I edited that patch file to remove those 12 trailing semi-colons and with
the addition of my signature to Debian changelog and version number change for
my PPA, I used debuild for building source changes for uploading to PPA's
build farm.

The PPA build-farm built deb packages for xkb-data for Ubuntu Lucid are
available from my PPA :

https://launchpad.net/~skhome/+archive/xkb-data-bugfix

(Instructions for adding apt line address of a PPA to an user's source lists
are given in that page - under topic :
Adding this PPA to your system )

The user can update xkb-data from buggy 1.8-1ubuntu4 version to bug
removed 1.8-1ubuntu4ppakse1~lucid1 version with the above PPA added to
the system

I have added as attachment the debdiff file I made ( as per usage guide
for debdiff command in :
https://wiki.edubuntu.org/PackagingGuide/Recipes/Debdiff ) . Hopefully
it is useful for moving forward.

2010-04-11 Thread Super Baen
I'm sorry but there is no such file.
Maybe this is because i had some trouble after rebooting when the upgrade was
finished.
At first i tried to run the computer as normal but instead of the log-in-screen
there was a dialog-box where i could select whether i want low-graphics or some
other things (i don't remember). But unfortunately only the upper half of the
window was on the screen so i couldn't confirm my selection.
So I rebooted again and selected netroot in the recovery mode. Googleing how to
install nvidia on 9.10 told me to type in:
sudo add-apt-repository ppa:nvidia-vdpau/ppa
To be honest i don't know what i've done but it worked.

@jc1885: let your PC back cold and after recharge totally you battery
(don't power on the PC). After that restart your PC. If your monitor is
green (or red) shutdown it and restart some time, this solve my problem.

Re: [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 292214] Re: Xinerama broken since intrepid on MGA

2010-04-11 Thread Eckart Haug
Your logfile ends when the server tries to initialize DRI.
I have Xorg ver 1.7.6 (part of Ubuntu 10.04). My logfile contains the lines

(WW) MGA(0): Direct rendering is not supported when Xinerama is enabled
(EE) MGA(0): [drm] DRIScreenInit failed. Disabling DRI.

Maybe somebody realized that DRI doesn't work with dual heads and
disabled it.

To find out, try

   Option DRI off

in the device section (and make shure it's really in effect by looking
at the log file)

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 510004] Re: [lucid regression] random graphics effects after resume from suspend to RAM

2010-04-11 Thread Sandeep
I have the same issue with an XPS 1210 (with an nvidia 7400 card).
Interestingly, I have no nvidia drivers installed and nor do I have
compositing/effects enabled.

I am using Kubuntu 4.4.2 and suspend/resume is not working for me -
sometimes I get the artifacts on screen. Sometimes I have a long blank
screen and I have to hard reboot.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 560672] [NEW] odd purple flecks and lines appear

2010-04-11 Thread Jimi_Hendrix
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: xserver-xorg-video-ati

There are little purple flecks flashing across my screen and once in a
while a line shoots all the way across, as if I was watching a TV that
was getting some interference, but displaying a picture. If I install
the fglrx drive (my video card is an ATI Mobility HD 3470), the purple
flecks and lines go away, but then it is not smooth when I move my
windows around (as i anticipated since ATI dropped support for my card
in fglrx a little while back).

I tried to screen shot the screen corruption, but the flecks do not
appear in the screen shots.

2010-04-11 Thread disco_stew
@opti545, not sure why you're posting that here. It seems to have
nothing at all to do with this bug. You are using neither the nouveau
driver, nor the hardware in question, nor experiencing the symptoms
being discussed.

Try posing you message on bug #510390 or bug #552653, which seem to
pertain to the error message you're getting.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 553789] Re: X freeze/crash with noveau driver

2010-04-11 Thread Anders Jacob Hansen
My new laptop does exactly the same thing even though I haven't gathered
any info the behavior is the same. I have the problem that I can't use
the NonFree nvidia module since it doesn't support my nVidia GT330M
chip.

I check with nVidia and they don't provide any driver (stable or beta)
and if I install the driver jockey want's me to install it just makes X
screw up upon reboot.

By screw up I mean, it says that the video configuration is not valid or
something like that and then i can chose between a few options what to
do.

I'm running Kubuntu 10.04 beta 2 but the same problem happens on Ubuntu 10.04
beta 2 ofc.
I do realize that I can't really complain since it's beta :-) but my feeling is
the driver wont change much untill 10.04 LTS stable comes out.

I'm also having the same issue (with compiz enabled) when maximizing the video
player.
I'm on 9.10, NVIDIA Driver 190.32, Quadro NVS 110M (256 MB with TurboCache)

My xorg.conf is:

Note that I have
