[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 41301] Re: Mouse clicks stop working sporadically
I started having this problem like 6 months ago when I was using Xubuntu 9.10. Short of restarting the Xserver nothing would fix it. I tried removing all my configuration files and starting clean but it still came back so i gave up on Xfce thinking it was the problem and installed Kubuntu 10.04 and I have it happening regularly in KDE even on the first boot. It seems like the problem might be related to the window managers because it seems like dragging or un/maximizing the windows with a double click sometimes triggers it. I use google chrome with gmail open most of the time, and a logitech mx laser mouse. but I have plugged in other mice when experiencing the symptoms and they didn't work either. FWIW I am using an nvidia 6600 video card with the nvidia proprietary drivers and a twinview dual monitor setup too. Is there any other trouble shooting info I can post? It happens pretty regularly for me. -- Mouse clicks stop working sporadically https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/41301 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to xorg-server in ubuntu. ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 564423] [NEW] No cursor on resume from suspend
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: xorg I upgraded from 9.10 to 10.04 Beta 2 Upon resume from suspend the cursor is missing but by watching the results of rollover (highlighted buttons etc) It is possible to still click on things. After a period of time (a couple of minutes) the cursor will come back and all will be normal. I'm not sure if it is just a time delay or if the cursor needs to be moving during the time it is absent if that makes sense. My hardware is a Vostro 1000 with an ATI video card and an AMD processor. Re: [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 353126] Re: Compiz / vnc screen refresh with nvidia-restricted driver/VirtualBox/ATI fglrx driver using X.org prior to release 7.5
The problem is still here Lucid <-> Lucid. The only way it works is if all screen enhancements, i.e. Compiz is turned off. No refresh happens if any of the special Compiz features are deployed. With all turned off then screen refreshes to the initiating machine. On Thu, Apr 15, 2010 at 8:29 PM, NoOp wrote: > Are you still having this issue with Beta2? [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 561994] [NEW] frozen screen when starting unplugged from power chord with ATI graphics
You have been subscribed to a public bug: as described in the #509273 I had some problems with the switch to KMS and my ATI graphics card. Now seems all ok,but if I boot up on battery power I run into the same problems with the same symptoms. It boots up but before login screen the notbook freeze and nothing can be done. The same if I start into the rescue console and start there "startx". It didn't help to gave the kernel the "nomodeset" option. [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 564378] [NEW] Fails to set MTRR for 2D acceleration

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 541492] Re: MASTER: [i845] GPU lockup (apport-crash) (Should KMS be blacklisted?)
Bryce, referring to comment #59, this is a 1280:1024 monitor ration 5:4 or 1.25 a bit different from 1024:768 which has 4:3 or 1.33. Vesa has no problem with the 5:4. Got bored so I tried Glasen's 2:2.11.0+git20100416~glasen~ppa1 intel video driver. That ran for a couple minutes then the gdm froze. [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 562005] Re: Backlight controls on ThinkPad T510 no longer function when using proprietary drivers
I have no idea how to effectively monitor changes in /sysfs. The best method i'm using is to use "tree" to map out Sysfs, and then search for interesting things and monitor them. If someone could please share a better method i'd be very appreciative. I have not found if there is a difference in sysfs between The hardware brightness buttons on this laptop always affect /sys/devices/virtual/backlight/acpi_video0/brightness. If change the brightness while running X, /sys/devices/virtual/backlight/acpi_video0/brightness is changed but the actual backlight is not affected. If I then switch to a text mode VT and press the backlight up button, /sys/devices/virtual/backlight/acpi_video0/brightness is increased by 1 and the backlight is set to that level. This level will persist when I switch back to X. Nouveau makes a symlink called nv_backlight at /sys/class/backlight, which links to sys/devices/pci:00/:00:01.0/:01:00.0/backlight/nv_backlight, so I suppose that it is not possible to use nouveau's backlight controls with the nvidia driver. /sys/module/video/parameters/brightness_switch_enabled is always set Y when using either nouveau or nvidia. It seems that the only solutions for backlight control on this laptop are either to force the nvidia driver to control the backlight, or use the text mode VT's method in X. LED backlights don't have inverters, so I'd think that they shouldnt be producing a buzzing/humming noise. I think it's a very bad idea to force the nvidia driver to control this backlight by default because it may result in physical hardware damage. -- Backlight controls on ThinkPad T510 no longer function when using proprietary drivers https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/562005 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to nvidia-graphics-drivers in ubuntu. ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 564181] Re: [RV730] GPU soft reset infinite loop scrolling in firefox with compiz
A few other ideas to try out: There have been some updates to -ati recently, and since you indicate this to be a regression that occurred in the last day, this would be the first thing I would suggest looking at. None of the ubuntu changes look like they could cause this kind of a bug, but who knows. It would be helpful if you could downgrade and test the following versions: * -ati: 1:6.13.0-1ubuntu1 - this will rule out two (innocuous?) changes in the last couple days * -ati: 1:6.12.192-2ubuntu2 or earlier - this will rule out upstream changes we brought in about a week ago * -mesa: 7.7.1-1ubuntu1 - this will rule out a change in the last couple days which I think is innocuous but who knows * xorg-server: 2:1.7.6-2ubuntu3 - this will rule out several patches recently added to xserver which were taken from upstream that look safe but may have changed something unexpectedly. I haven't looked at what has changed in the kernel recently, but you probably have the -19 or -20 kernel. If you find you cannot reproduce it after booting into an earlier kernel that could point to a regression in the kernel. Beyond that, look in your /var/log/dpkg.log file to see what got updated and go through downgrading them until you find a good suspect. -- [RV730] GPU soft reset infinite loop scrolling in firefox with compiz https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/564181 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is the registrant for xserver-xorg-driver-ati. ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 562005] Re: Backlight controls on ThinkPad T510 no longer function when using proprietary drivers
I can now force the nvidia driver to control the backlight. I don't know why it didn't work before, I did 2 hard reboots and the setting didn't take effect. Regardless, the nvidia's backlight controller is still less effective than the one used by nouveau or in a text mode VT. The nvidia driver's backlight control should not be force-enabled by default because it changes the brightness in inconsistent increments and causes a buzzing noise to emanate from the LED backlight. This noise is at different frequencies according the the level of brightness, and sometimes ceases for a fraction of a second while the backlight is changing from one brightness level to another. Is there anything I can do to give a comparison of the brightness levels passed by nouveau driver or in a text mode VT? I'd assume there is something in Sysfs. What is the difference between how a text mode VT or nouveau change the backlight brightness, compared with how nvidia does it? Gnome should be forced to use a non-nvidia method by default.
