Re: [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 312756] Re: support graphics card hot switch
Thanks for the ars technica link. Yes, we've been following this closely since the last year or so. In terms of hardware, Optimus seems to be going mainstream now, but with ATI you can also put the discrete card to sleep. Dave Airlie's vga_switcheroo code does some of this hot switching, and it has entered 2.6.34. But we want to achieve the same level of functionality in Windows 7 and OSX. [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 545096] Re: [lucid][R500 X1400] intermitent screen corruption (pink world )
I've been runing without any corruption for 3 days using kernel 2.6.32-20-generic since Monday night. (there were both a kernel upgrade and a radeon upgrade) There was obviously a fix in this kernel. I've even seen a related line in the changelog but I can't find it back. It was something like fixing the pulsating backlight horizontal sync. I still have some subtles backlight changes but those are a lot less annoying, a lot less frequent and, most of all, there's no corruption anymore ! [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 562872] Re: xkeyboard-config needs to create a POT template on build
there are 2 .pot files Approved for import (as seen using David's link above): the first one w/ 728 strings, and the 2nd one w/ 681 strings (the latter judging by 681 appears to be the same as what's in LP right now). It's the other way round: the first one in the queue is the outdated template with 681 strings, and the last one is the updated one I uploaded with 728 strings. They will be imported in the order they are in the queue: first the 681-strings one and then the 728-strings one, so we should be ok. In any case, the fix for this bug will imply a third upload, again with an updated 728-strings template, so we should still be fine. I'll have to check if xkeyboard-config is part of NonLanguagePackDeadline (today), but otherwise, I'm sure it will be imported before LanguagePackDeadline. -- xkeyboard-config needs to create a POT template on build https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/562872 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to xkeyboard-config in ubuntu. ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp

After putting this: ?xml version=1.0 encoding=ISO-8859-1? deviceinfo version=0.2 device match key=input.product contains=RMTP-MA957 merge key=input.x11_driver type=stringevtouch/merge /match /device /deviceinfo in /usr/share/hal/fdi/policy/20thirdparty/30-Acer1420p-touchscreen.fdi the script runs (with sudo), but I won't see any red crosshair, nor will I see any effect after restarting my session. At the moment, whenever I touch the screen, the mouse pointer will move straight to the upper left corner of the screen. So you still have it. But in fact your case not so similiar like mine. Perhaps it is OK in your case. I mean it just reflects that there is problem with EDID. In my case this ERROR repeats in dmesg many times. And I have this: i915 :00:02.0: LVDS-1: EDID invalid. [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 557436] Re: [GM45] [upgrade] [regression] [lucid]: external monitor only usable via DVI, not via DP
Further data point, but currently inexplicable, a similar issue haunted Fedora 12 on the same hardware, but not Windows 7, but now has disappeared on either Linux system after rearranging (i. e. replugging the DP cable), but never existed on Windows. This may mean that signalling between what X.org does and what Windows configures might be subtly different -- so subtle it doesn't break DDC data or WIndows display, but big enough to make a difference to X.org- based display. -- [GM45] [upgrade] [regression] [lucid]: external monitor only usable via DVI, not via DP https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/557436 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is a direct subscriber. ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp

Hi I've added screenshots of what happens during boot. Screenshot 1 - The error that shows up. Screenshot 2 - The choices after you click on OK. Run ubuntu in low-graphics mode - it loads with guest additions and the display size is 800x600 with bad graphics, no usb support etc. Reconfigure graphics - You see screenshot 3. If I click on any of these choices then the screenshot 3 comes back up. Cancel to go back to screenshot 2 Restart X - you get screenshot 4 and it stays on it forever. I have force the shutdown and restart it at which point I get screenshot 1 again. Screenshot 5 shows the (virtual) hardware config I'm using for ubuntu 10.04, it is the default choices. ** Attachment added: screenshots.zip http://launchpadlibrarian.net/44253287/screenshots.zip -- Ubuntu 10.04 graphics crash when run as guest in VirtualBox https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/562739 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to xorg-server in ubuntu. ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp

So in this case, turning DRI off in xorg.conf actually made a difference, even though it is already disabled. This suggests that the disabling is not done in the right place. Could you attach your Xorg.0.log from this session here (which is now Xorg.0.log.old if you restarted xorg once since you ran this)? I would like to see how the DRI disabling messages interact. What benefit do I get for my application centered operations is there with video intel which is by that measure 36% slower than vesa? For you there will apparently be no reason to run with intel, since vesa is much better. But then, I suppose you help us with this in order to help everyone else running ubuntu :-) The main problem with the VESA driver is that it has a very limited set of resolutions available. If the native resolution of your monitor is one of those, then fine. The VESA resolutions are all in 4:3 format, so nobody with a 16:9 monitor will be able to use the native resolution. I think also high-resolution monitors will have problems. [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 563774] [NEW] Invalid EDID for Dell SP2309W in VGA mode
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: xorg This monitor has a preferred resolution of 2048x1152 @ 60Hz. The desktop does not fill the display and leaves a 2 cm black strip on the left margin. The monitor manual adjustments do not permit the image to be moved or expanded to fill the screen. Some of the lower resolutions fill the screen, so I am confident the monitor does not have a hardware fault. This problem is reported against karmic, with the screen attached through a kvm switch. I have reproduced the same symptoms under lucid beta - so I will attach the lucid diagnostics because xorg on that system is at the latest level. My karmic and lucid systems use the nVidia NOUVEAU driver, but the same symptoms also occur using the proprietary drivers at version 185 (from the ubuntu repository), and also with version 195 (from the nvidia ppa repository). [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 541492] Re: MASTER: [i845] GPU lockup (apport-crash) (Should KMS be blacklisted?)
Geir, I'm retired from IBM where among other things I did system testing, so here to try out new Ubuntu releases I run 4 test pc's i830, i845, ati Mobility 7500, and ati Express 200. Within my linux capabilities and time I can run some tests where people are interested. Here's the Xorg.0.log since I haven't re-booted yet. I'll do an aptitude update, aptitude safe-upgrade shortly. Thanks for your explanations. Mostly from what I see Ubuntu changes just appear where someone in the know must understand why the changes are being done and what they are good for. I do multi-boot so I can compare previous Ubuntu's usually when the latest update breaks things. My impression is Lucid Beta 2 is quite responsive to the keyboard with nice boot up and shutdown times and is my preferred version. If what vesa lacks is 16:9 resolution since I'm not a coder it would seem to me to be easier to add that than whatever development effort the intel driver is taking. My narrow view I'm the only user so there are just two accounts, root and jerry, and I never switch accounts, so I'm not sure what KMS would do for me. With the amount of work and trouble KMS must have some value to someone. [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 563774] Re: Invalid EDID for Dell SP2309W in VGA mode
I forgot to mention that I tested under lucid with-and-without the kvm switch. There was no visible difference in the screen images, but the files I have attached to this bug report were collected WITHOUT the kvm switch.
