[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 214168] Re: [i815] glxgears and screensavers causes horizontal line corruption, freezes on i815 chipset
Looks like the fix is in http://cgit.freedesktop.org/xorg/driver/xf86 -video-intel/commit/?id=9494f4e91f8c8c7a0f8d61c6883c9bfceb2cec46 which looks to be easy to cherrypick. There are testing packages available in https://edge.launchpad.net/~raof/+archive/intel-testing-scratchpad with the upstream patch applied. Please give it a try and we can look at getting this in Lucid, either before release or as an SRU. ** Changed in: xserver-xorg-video-intel (Ubuntu) Status: Triaged = Incomplete -- [i815] glxgears and screensavers causes horizontal line corruption, freezes on i815 chipset https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/214168 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to xorg in ubuntu. ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 554835] Re: [855GM] GPU hang when an application tries to use XVideo
I don't have the notbook with me now, but a co-worker of mine has the same issue with identical hardware. It seems there is no problem with this kernel: http://kernel.ubuntu.com/~kernel- ppa/mainline/v2.6.34-rc3-lucid/ (just checked out on his notebook). It means that for example mplayer can play videos with XVideo output (mplayer -vo xv ...) without a crash. Also kernel package just has been upgraded to 2.6.32-21.32. With that kernel not even login screen got just black screen and no disk I/O after a while ... (even with boot options nosplash - btw even with noplash there is splash -, and quiet option is removed too). According to /var/log/kern.log the kernel log ends at the MTRR stuffs in the middle of a line and logs of the new boot (with that 2.6.34 kernel which works) starts with the date/time not at a new line ... xorg.log files in /var/log/ does not give many informations the only difference some kind of acpi socket opening problems. -- [855GM] GPU hang when an application tries to use XVideo https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/554835 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to xserver-xorg-video-intel in ubuntu. ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 566542] [NEW] totem player on xserver-xephyr does not redraw damaged areas
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: xserver-xephyr I use xserver-xephyr for multiseat environment on top of ATI Radeon X300SE card. The system is ubuntu 9.10 amd64 with gdm pinned to version 2.20.10-0ubuntu2. Builtin video player totem is barely acceptable for use, as it does not redraw damaged (by mouse) screen areas during playback. We have to be extremely careful not to touch the mouse during playback, as each mouse movement causes black squares to appear on mouse path. The black squares are then never redrawn unless I switch to full screen from windowed mode or switch from full screen to windowed mode. The problem appears in both windowed mode and full screen mode. Probably related problem is that pressing F11 to switch to full-screen mode results in garbage screen, whereas using View-fullscreen mode button from the menu - works. Other video players (xine, mplayer) apparently use different video output mode as they don't have such problem. ** Affects: xorg-server (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New -- totem player on xserver-xephyr does not redraw damaged areas https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/566542 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to xorg-server in ubuntu. ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 564636] [NEW] Massive memory leak with Compiz when resizing windows in normal mode
You have been subscribed to a public bug: Binary package hint: compiz When compiz resize plugin is set to normal mode if I begin resizing windows memory consumption begins to rapidly rise (observed in System Monitor) and very quickly begins dumping into the swap space. As this happens the system naturally becomes very sluggish as the hard drive is written too. Once I stop resizing windows and wait for the writes to swap space to finish the systems performance goes back to normal but as soon as I resize a window again the swap space usage increases again and thus slows the system down once again. Currently as I write this my swap space is at 1.2gb of 2gb used and shows no sign of stopping if I resize a window. It would probably use all my memory if I kept resizing application windows (happens with any app I tested) but I'm reluctant to test that theory as it would probably crash my system. The other resize modes do not cause this leak. I have tested with Metacity with its composite turned on and I get no such issue. Memory usage remains as expected. This is on a Sony Vaio CR laptop with an Intel x3100 gpu. I have also seen similar but not quite the same issue using a Radeon 9700 (r300) gpu. With that system however no memory leak occurs but after resizing the windows a few times window performance becomes extremely slow (and does not return to normal where as the Intel does). So I do not think it is quite the same bug so will probably open a report for that issue as well. I have also tested both systems using todays daily live cd (downloaded 16/04/2010 8:46am) on a usb stick and the same issue still occurred. I will be able to test another laptop with an Intel 4500HD GPU later today using a live usb so will report back on how that turned out. [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 563100] Re: Mouse movement corrupted with Xinerama enabled
I have the same problem when Xinerama is enabled on NVidia drivers using 2 nVidia 9600GT display adapters and 4 displays. Two of the displays are pivot rotated and two are not rotated. I'm using ratpoison as window manager so it's not related to window managers. When I disable Xinerama the mouse works OK but I cannot throw applications from display to another. I love Ubuntu, but display system has always been perhaps the weakest links of it. On Ubuntu 9.04 NVidia display driver (or X or Xinerama or XRandr) crashed the X every few days. On Ubuntu 9.10 there were mouse jumping problems and not always possible to move mouse from screen to screen and in the first releases there was mouse visible on all four screens at the same time and now Ubuntu 10.04 has this new problem where it is impossible to move mouse from screen to screen using Xinerama. I know it's still only Beta 2 but because of history of unsolved problems I'm really really afraid that this will never be fixed. -- Mouse movement corrupted with Xinerama enabled https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/563100 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to nvidia-graphics-drivers in ubuntu. ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 533269] Re: External display not working
I don't know how to better describe this bug. The external monitor is just not working. It is enabled in gnome-display-properties but the external monitor is still not receiving any signal and remains in standby. Since this is a hardware specific problem you will need an ATI x300 card to reproduce it. Since Hardy, where everthing was perfect, the video support for this card got worse with each release so maybe Lucid is not supposed to be running on this computer and I should stop my upgrades at Karmic where I can get 1024x768 or use Hardy where I can use the full 1600x1050 resolution. I have attached a screenshot of gnome-display-properties. Feel free to mark it as won't fix. ** Attachment added: Captură-ecran.png http://launchpadlibrarian.net/44825829/Captur%C4%83-ecran.png -- External display not working https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/533269 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to xorg-server in ubuntu. ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp
[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 539889] Re: cairo-dock crashed with SIGSEGV in cairo_dock_initialize_opengl_backend()
Hi, sorry for the delay. It appears from the convo that this might be a problem somewhere else, which does not surprise me. Lucid is the first version where OpenGL worked well enough on this laptop to use Compiz Under 8.04 I could either use the opensource drivers with no OpenGL, or use the proprietary drivers which did not suspend - suspending is more important, so I had to suffer along without OpenGL. Some day I'll be able to upgrade to a newer laptop with the new Radeon open source hotness :). Anyway, just to followup - I re-ran cairo with the three different options. using -o I still get crash message (with the apport panel, but that fails to get sent because it's no longer an Ubuntu package), and sometimes it actually dies but sometimes it stays running even though it says it crashed. When it stays running the panel is a flickers rapidly between a piece of a standard window (with 'standard header, 'File', 'Edit', etc.) about 200 pixels wide (the rest of the window width is transparent), and a full-width black rectangle. Some of the icons are not there - their place is there but there is no icon. With -O I get the same same visuals but I don't think it ever thinks it is crashing. Looking in the log output, I don't see anything unusual so I won't bother posting them unless you want me to. If it's helpful to you I can perform other tests but for regular use I'll just work around this by starting it without OpenGL (using -c), which seems to work just fine. -- cairo-dock crashed with SIGSEGV in cairo_dock_initialize_opengl_backend() https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/539889 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to mesa in ubuntu. ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 563100] Re: Mouse movement corrupted with Xinerama enabled
I'm declining the lucid nomination and setting importance to medium for the following reasons: * Given that the bug doesn't occur with -nouveau, this seems likely to be a bug in the -nvidia driver itself, but by SRU policy binary driver updates are not permitted, so this does not qualify for an SRU post-release (and there's no time left to fix it pre-release) * There is a functional workaround * The issue does not occur for default configurations Really, I think this bug needs to be communicated upstream to NVIDIA, as it does not seem to be something we can fix in Ubuntu itself. However, just in case I am assigning to tseliot to review it and give additional feedback. ** Changed in: nvidia-graphics-drivers (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided = Medium ** Changed in: nvidia-graphics-drivers (Ubuntu) Status: New = Triaged ** Changed in: nvidia-graphics-drivers (Ubuntu) Assignee: (unassigned) = Alberto Milone (albertomilone) -- Mouse movement corrupted with Xinerama enabled https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/563100 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to nvidia-graphics-drivers in ubuntu. ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 550625] Re: Alps touchpad is recognized but neither gsynaptics nor mouse preferences work
All the properties look correct to me. The right edge is defined as anything to the right of value 870. I suggest we try to find out what X values are being reported when we attempt to scroll on the right edge of the touchpad. Someone please test the following: You will want to print out or write down these instructions as we will be changing to a VT for part of it. You can switch back and forth using chvt if you want, but if you are unfamiliar it will be easiest to run through these steps verbatim. If you get stuck in a text terminal and don't know how to get out, run sudo chvt 7. $ sudo apt-get install input-utils evtest $ sudo chvt 1 log in as your normal user $ sudo lsinput Find your mouse, should be something like AlpsPS/2 ALPS GlidePoint. Now copy the /dev/input/event# line for the mouse. $ sudo evtest [/dev/input/event# from previous step] | tee evtest.dump Now run your finger across the trackpad in three motions: 1. Left to right across the middle of the touchpad 2. Top to bottom across the middle of the touchpad 3. Top to bottom across the right edge as though you are trying to scroll You will see a ton of output flow across the screen. You may ignore the output, it's just there so you're sure it's working. The output is being saved to evtest.dump. When done: $ sudo chvt 7 Finally, upload the evtest.dump file here. With this data we should be able to figure out if the edges reported to the synaptics X driver is correct. [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 563100] Re: Mouse movement corrupted with Xinerama enabled
Bryce, what do you mean by functional workaround? I though nouveau driver didnt support multiple cards or am I missing something? The issue does not occur for default configurations... True but with default configuration Gnome uses only one display and with settings (using the gnome tool) I managed it to use only two out of four displays. For some reason X crashed and failed to restart so I switched to NVidia drivers. Too bad there is issue with the Xinerama. In case someone finds a way to use four displays (two cards) in Ubuntu 10.04 properly I'd really like to hear about that. I haven't found a solution so far. I even tried to get libxinerama from Debian Testing (v1.1-3) with no luck - mouse keeps jumping. libxrandr2 seems to be in same version so no luck with that neither. Ubuntu 10.04 Beta 2 release notes says Because of the new alternatives system used for nvidia driver packages, the nvidia installer from NVIDIA's website currently doesn't work so I havent tried NVidia drivers from NVidia's website.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 565883] Re: [R350] screen corruption on 9800SE
I installed the 7.9.0~git20100418+gallium+r300.0490116f-0ubuntu0tormod version on the Ubuntu 10.04 beta2 LiveCD from the PPA. After installing the packages from PPA I executed these commands: cd /usr/lib/ sudo mv dri dri-gallium sudo mv dri-classic dri logout login Unfortunately nothing has changed. [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 353126] Re: Compiz / vnc screen refresh with nvidia-restricted driver/VirtualBox/ATI fglrx driver using X.org prior to release 7.5
There's so many comments on this bug from so many people, it's hard to understand what's wrong exactly. I notice there were some xserver patches proposed as fixes; I've verified these are included in the xserver we ship with lucid. I don't see any comments about having this issue with the open drivers, which makes me wonder if the problem is particular to the binary drivers (like, broken or missing XDamage support or something). In this case, the xserver task can be closed, and instead the issue should be raised directly to NVIDIA, ATI, and virtualbox to provide the missing support. These fixes are not something that can be done at the distro level. My guess is that the xserver API here changed in some fashion, causing this to break with the binary drivers, but they have not been updated to fix the issue. Perhaps this use case is not one they test? Probably the logical next step would be to approach NVIDIA and ATI about this, for further information. Given all that, the xorg-server task can be closed. I don't think there is anything we can change in xorg-server at the distro level to address this issue. However I'll leave the Lucid nomination in case the vino community wants to consider adding one of the various workarounds discussed here for Lucid. I'll also leave the upstream xserver bug report open in case I'm wrong and there is something that can be done in the xserver; if that upstream bug report gets some activity by upstream developers indicating that this could be fixed in xserver, feel free to reopen the xorg-server task. ** Changed in: xorg-server (Ubuntu) Status: Incomplete = Fix Released -- Compiz / vnc screen refresh with nvidia-restricted driver/VirtualBox/ATI fglrx driver using X.org prior to release 7.5 https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/353126 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to xorg-server in ubuntu. ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp

the xserver task can be closed, and instead the issue should be raised directly to NVIDIA, ATI, and virtualbox to provide the missing support. If three vendors are having the same problem, then the problem is probably with the Vino server, not with all three vendors' products. Perhaps you should check with the Vino server folks or consider replacing Vino with something that works. -- Compiz / vnc screen refresh with nvidia-restricted driver/VirtualBox/ATI fglrx driver using X.org prior to release 7.5 https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/353126 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to xorg-server in ubuntu. ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp
