[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 569656] [NEW] Upgrade to 10.04 messes up Windows Vista boot
Public bug reported: The laptop is a Dual boot 9.10 with Windows Vista. I upgraded 9.10 to 10.04 RC with dist-upgrade. After the upgrade, the only grub entry related to Windows was Windows Recovery Environment, Windows Vista entry is gone. When I select the Windows Recovery Environment entry, the system only showed a blank screen. However, after 2-3 tries, Windows Vista boots o.k. Looks like there are other with similar issue, please refer http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=1440855 Since, many folks will use the Update Manager to upgrade to 10.04, this could potentially become an issue. ** Affects: ubuntu Importance: Undecided Status: New ** Package changed: xserver-xorg-video-intel (Ubuntu) = ubuntu -- Upgrade to 10.04 messes up Windows Vista boot https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/569656 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to xserver-xorg-video-intel in ubuntu. ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp

It's the powermeter. It doesn't seem to do anything, but it does! Turn it on (it'll turn a TINY bit brighter) and off again (or you'll defenatly be unstable) and for me it's WAY better than it was atleast. Installation of Ubuntu 10.04 forced me to take another look at this bug. The workaround in the first post originated from this link: http://forums.nvidia.com/index.php?showtopic=102344. [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 562418] Re: many -dbg packages have debug symbols mismatch
Unfortunately this is not fixed in the xorg-server case. The build log for 2:1.7.6-2ubuntu7 confirms that pkg-create-dbgsym 0.42 got installed, but I still get CRC mismatch on /usr/bin/Xorg. The snippet below from the build log shows that -dbgsym was built twice. Why there is Make messages in there is also a bit funny, it seems like some parallel makes are running, which I would not expect in this phase of the build. dh_strip -pxserver-xorg-core --dbg-package=xserver-xorg-core-dbg dh_strip debug symbol extraction: all non-arch-all packages for this build platform i386: xserver-xorg-core xserver-xorg-dev xdmx xdmx-tools xnest xvfb xserver-xephyr xserver-xfbdev xserver-xorg-core-dbg pkgmaintainermangler: Not overriding Maintainer for domain lists.ubuntu.com dpkg-deb: warning: 'debian/xserver-common/DEBIAN/control' contains user-defined field 'Original-Maintainer' dpkg-deb: warning: ignoring 1 warnings about the control file(s) dpkg-deb: building package `xserver-common' in `../xserver-common_1.7.6-2ubuntu7_all.deb'. dh_strip debug symbol extraction: not adding gnu debuglinks since --dbg-package is given dh_strip debug symbol extraction: packages to act on: xserver-xorg-core dh_strip debug symbol extraction: ignored packages: make[1]: Leaving directory `/build/buildd/xorg-server-1.7.6' WARNING: not running pkgbinarymangler for this package, as requested dpkg-deb: warning: '/build/buildd/xorg-server-1.7.6/debian/xserver-xorg-core-dbgsym/DEBIAN/control' contains user-defined field 'Original-Maintainer' dpkg-deb: warning: ignoring 1 warnings about the control file(s) dpkg-deb: building package `xserver-xorg-core-dbgsym' in `../xserver-xorg-core-dbgsym_1.7.6-2ubuntu7_i386.ddeb'. dh_strip -s --remaining-packages dh_strip debug symbol extraction: all non-arch-all packages for this build platform i386: xserver-xorg-core xserver-xorg-dev xdmx xdmx-tools xnest xvfb xserver-xephyr xserver-xfbdev xserver-xorg-core-dbg dh_strip debug symbol extraction: packages to act on: xserver-xorg-core xserver-xorg-dev xdmx xdmx-tools xnest xvfb xserver-xephyr xserver-xfbdev xserver-xorg-core-dbg dh_strip debug symbol extraction: ignored packages: WARNING: not running pkgbinarymangler for this package, as requested dpkg-deb: warning: '/build/buildd/xorg-server-1.7.6/debian/xserver-xorg-core-dbgsym/DEBIAN/control' contains user-defined field 'Original-Maintainer' dpkg-deb: warning: ignoring 1 warnings about the control file(s) dpkg-deb: building package `xserver-xorg-core-dbgsym' in `../xserver-xorg-core-dbgsym_1.7.6-2ubuntu7_i386.ddeb'. Re: [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 353126] Re: Compiz / vnc screen refresh with nvidia-restricted driver/VirtualBox/ATI fglrx driver using X.org
What I wonder is what changed too, because when desktop effects first appeared several versions ago, I was able to use VNC and everything worked perfectly. (I think it was about a year ago that it stopped working). So at some point the handling for this changed in a way that open source drivers adjusted to, but everyone else writing drivers probably wasn't even aware of. This is being caused by the xserver not getting damaged by the nvidia-restricted drivers. Linked bugs confirm this is not an issue on intel chipsets or nv driver. Steps to reproduce: Enable desktop-effects (default) with nvidia-restricted, virtualBox's display or some ATI driver like RV610 Enable remote desktop Connect with VNC Results: You see a screen snapshot of your desktop but if you click a menu item there are no updates to the screen. Notes: If you close and restart the vnc session, you get an updated snapshot but still no refreshes. Workarounds: Use the -noxdamage argument with vncviewer. This is really inefficient and bandwidth hungry since the whole screen refreshes. Kill compiz and use a different wm (metacity). This bug has been confirmed by many others with linked reports. [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 567294] Re: Display detection SLOW (and broken) in Lucid
With the latest update (rc2) which included a fix to both the main and intel it detects the screens in under a second. It may also have been something with the kernel, but in any case it works fine now. I consider it fixed. -- Display detection SLOW (and broken) in Lucid https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/567294 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to xserver-xorg-video-intel in ubuntu. ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp
