[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 569656] [NEW] Upgrade to 10.04 messes up Windows Vista boot

2010-04-25 Thread Steel-Bunz
Public bug reported:

The laptop is a Dual boot 9.10 with Windows Vista. I upgraded 9.10 to
10.04 RC with dist-upgrade. After the upgrade, the only grub entry
related to Windows was Windows Recovery Environment, Windows Vista
entry is gone. When I select the Windows Recovery Environment entry,
the system only showed a blank screen. However, after 2-3 tries, Windows
Vista boots o.k.

Looks like there are other with similar issue, please refer
http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=1440855

Since, many folks will use the Update Manager to upgrade to 10.04, this
could potentially become an issue.

I believe I'm seeing similar behaviour after upgrading a box from karmic

when windows are being moved/opened or when switching screens. This

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 507233] Re: NVIDIA - Xorg crashes (empty backtrace) with segfault OR general protection in ld-2.10.1.so

2010-04-25 Thread Meng
Hi Aagaard,

How did you get it stable with the stealth button? I am using an m15x.
Is it the one that looks like a UFO (second one from the right hand
side) or the one that looks like powermeter (first one from left hand
side)? I tried both but nothing seem to change in Linux.

Thanks.

2010-04-25 Thread Anders Aagaard
It's the powermeter. It doesn't seem to do anything, but it does!

Turn it on (it'll turn a TINY bit brighter) and off again (or you'll
defenatly be unstable) and for me it's WAY better than it was atleast.

I've had some crashes, but only with the power cord out (which also adds
to instability :/ )

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 456637] Re: Please consider turning powermizer OFF

2010-04-25 Thread Lod
Installation of Ubuntu 10.04 forced me to take another look at this bug.
The workaround in the first post originated from this link:
http://forums.nvidia.com/index.php?showtopic=102344.
I reread this thread and found out there were some new posts advising to update
the BIOS. I downloaded an update from the ASUS site (which adressed this
problem) and made the upgrade. It seems to do the trick for me, the nvidia
driver is now working 'out of the box'.

The think is that I don't have to wait 1 hour or so to have my system very
heavy, after entering in Ubuntu Lucid the system is heavy!

What could be the problem? My Ubuntu system now is ...I can say, useless!

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 569709] [NEW] [Lucid] Random screen corruption

2010-04-25 Thread Marco
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: xorg

When I use the computer sometimes it become not-usable. This is what happen
img96.imageshack.us/img96/4590/schermataj.png
As you can see I can't read anything on the screen...sometime the problem is
limited to the desktop and gnome-panel so I fix the problem simply restarting
nautilus/gnome-panel but sometimes it involves also the other apps (chromium
etc.) so I can't do anything except restart the X server to fix the problem.
I can't say what should I do for getting this nor I can say that it happends
when I have a lot of program open etc. (however I collected that debug
information when I get this kind of problem)
I have always evince open, loaded with very large PDF file and I usually get
this problem when I scroll the PDF's file...but, again, I can't say it is the
problem :-) because evince is open for the 90% of time I use the PC.

Thanks!

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 541492] Re: MASTER: [i845] GPU lockup (apport-crash) (Should KMS be blacklisted?)

2010-04-25 Thread timosha
Here are my five cents:

On an IBM Thinkpad R51 - 2887 with:
VGA compatible controller: Intel Corporation 82852/855GM Integrated Graphics
Device (rev 02)

and kernel 2.6.32-21 + xserver-xorg-video-intel 2:2.9.1-3Ubuntu1
everything works perfectly, including Compiz. No X crahes at all. So, I
pinned xserver-xorg-video-intel 2:2.9.1-3Ubuntu1 to avoid that the
workaround xserver-xorg-video-intel 2:2.9.1-3Ubuntu3 gets installed

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 562418] Re: many -dbg packages have debug symbols mismatch

2010-04-25 Thread Tormod Volden
Unfortunately this is not fixed in the xorg-server case. The build log
for 2:1.7.6-2ubuntu7 confirms that pkg-create-dbgsym 0.42 got installed,
but I still get CRC mismatch on /usr/bin/Xorg.

The snippet below from the build log shows that -dbgsym was built twice.
Why there is Make messages in there is also a bit funny, it seems like
some parallel makes are running, which I would not expect in this phase
of the build.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 418282] Re: Touchpad not recognized on Asus U80 and UL30 series. Touchpad Panel missing from mouse settings

2010-04-25 Thread Florian Ragwitz
I fixed the driver to work on newer touchpad firmwares, and sent off the
patches to the linux-input mailinglist: http://www.spinics.net/lists
/linux-input/msg08277.html

These patches make things Just Work on my ASUS UL30A, but I've pretty
much hardcoded my particular firmware version to avoid detecting non-
elantech devices wrongly. However, I also added a force_elantech option
to the psmouse module. If a kernel with those four patches applied still
doesn't recognize your elantech device as such, please retry with
force_elantech=1 and report the firmware version of your hardware as
reported in the kernel log.

I can confirm this bug on my girlfriends Fujistu Lifebook 7010d. I also
upgraded her yesterday. Right now I have her on the generic driver which
obviously breaks 3D for her. Is there already a solution or a workaround

something weird going on during upgrade, anyone with more insight have
an idea where to start looking? What logs would be helpful?

Thanks Robert.

The problem seems to be that ddeb doesn't have a package for i386
architecture. The only one listed is:

xserver-xorg-dbgsym_7.5+5ubuntu1_amd64.ddeb

Also, Packages doesn't list any package for xserver-xorg-dbgsym.

http://ddebs.ubuntu.com/dists/lucid/main/binary-i386/Packages

That maybe explains why apt couldn't find anything for me!

Re: [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 353126] Re: Compiz / vnc screen refresh with nvidia-restricted driver/VirtualBox/ATI fglrx driver using X.org

2010-04-25 Thread Dan Smith
What I wonder is what changed too, because when desktop effects first
appeared several versions ago, I was able to use VNC and everything
worked perfectly. (I think it was about a year ago that it stopped
working). So at some point the handling for this changed in a way
that open source drivers adjusted to, but everyone else writing
drivers probably wasn't even aware of.

Status in GNOME Remote Desktop: Incomplete
Status in X.Org X server: Confirmed
Status in “vino” package in Ubuntu: Confirmed
Status in “xorg-server” package in Ubuntu: Confirmed
Status in “vino” package in Fedora: Unknown

 Bug description:
 Binary package hint: compiz

When using the nvidia-restricted or some ATI drivers and compiz desktop
effects the vnc server will not refresh the screen. This is being caused by
the xserver not getting damaged by the nvidia-restricted drivers. Linked
bugs confirm this is not an issue on intel chipsets or nv driver.

 Steps to reproduce:
 Enable desktop-effects (default) with nvidia-restricted, virtualBox's display
or some ATI driver like RV610
 Enable remote desktop
 Connect with VNC

 Results:
You see a screen snapshot of your desktop but if you click a menu item there
are no updates to the screen.
 Notes:
If you close and restart the vnc session, you get an updated snapshot but
 still no refreshes.

 Workarounds:
Use the -noxdamage argument with vncviewer. This is really inefficient and
bandwidth hungry since the whole screen refreshes.
Kill compiz and use a different wm (metacity).

This bug has been confirmed by many others with linked reports. Might be an
issue with xorg since there is a report of ATI drivers with similar issues in
 https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/328559 .

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 565415] Re: X server crashes, screen turns black - Failed to submit batchbuffer

2010-04-25 Thread Mindaugas Karpavičius
Looks like this bug is similiar to
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/xserver-xorg-video-intel/+bug/568779
I can boot with option i915.modeset=1 without problems, but I can't see
plymouth animation then.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 564423] Re: No cursor on resume from suspend

2010-04-25 Thread Philippe Joyez
I can confirm this bug on a dell dimension 9100 with ati video, also
after an upgrade from 9.10 to 10.04 RC: Each time I resume after
hibernation or suspend, the cursor is not displayed. You can see it
highlighting objects, though; it is just hidden, as described above.

There is a quick way to bring back the cursor : switch to a console
screen (ctrl-alt-F1) and back to X (ctrl-alt-F7 or ctrl-alt-F8).

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 567294] [NEW] Display detection SLOW (and broken) in Lucid

2010-04-25 Thread Launchpad Bug Tracker
You have been subscribed to a public bug:

Display controller si the 945GM Express integrated from Intel on my HP
Mini netbook.

With Karmic, plugging in an external VGA display, it would be recognized
within a few seconds, and the display control panel would show two
displays and let me configure them.

With Lucid, it seems to eventually detect the display addition and/or
removal but it takes over 2 minutes, and it only lets me mirror the
display or use just one, not add my big display to the desktop.

Hi,
I don't think you have the logs to show what graphics card you have; however
if it is an i945GM then I think you might have
this bug:

https://bugs.launchpad.net/xserver-xorg-video-intel/+bug/404509

if it is a 945gm please mark it as a dupe.

With the latest update (rc2) which included a fix to both the main and
intel it detects the screens in under a second. It may also have been
something with the kernel, but in any case it works fine now.

I consider it fixed.
