[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 565540] Re: Unmet dependencies in Lucid
I met the same problem on a HP/Compaq TC1000. So I tried to install the fpit driver regardless of its dependencies. (Before installation through synaptics, it tries to remove ubuntu-desktop, xorg, xserver-core and many more which would not make much sense to me.) I manually copied the appropriate files (/usr/lib/xorg/modules/input/fpit_drv.so and /usr/share/bug/xserver-xorg-input-fpit/script which is a symlink). After that, the X server starts normally but the driver still does not work. Here is the relevant part of Xorg.0.log: (II) LoadModule: fpit (II) Loading /usr/lib/xorg/modules/input/fpit_drv.so (II) Module fpit: vendor=X.Org Foundation compiled for 1.6.0, module version = 1.3.0 Module class: X.Org XInput Driver ABI class: X.Org XInput driver, version 4.0 (EE) module ABI major version (4) doesn't match the server's version (7) (II) UnloadModule: fpit So the driver module seems to be incompatible with the X server's version. [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 159594] Re: Crash to white screen of death (possibly Firefox?)
I don't object to your closing it, but I feel obliged to let you know you that I think this bug is still present in Koala. However, the release before Koala seems to be good enough, and that's where I've been staying with the machine for most of the time. I'm going to go ahead and install the new Lynx in the experimental partition and run it for a while, but I'm not optimistic about it. I haven't run Koala very much on this sick Sharp, and I've seen the crash a couple of times... So far I've only upgraded to Lynx on one machine, where it seems to be working pretty much okay, and done fresh installs on two other machines, where it is having moderate problems already. I hope it isn't as bad as Koala, which gave me big troubles with the sound cards on several machines for several months... -- Crash to white screen of death (possibly Firefox?) https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/159594 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to xserver-xorg-video-ati in ubuntu. ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp
[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 379313] Re: Handling NextWindow Touchscreen (multitouch)
Don't give up... It seems that the driver blocks the whole usb controller. The bad thing is that no input is possible when the driver is active, so it is not possible to find out why... I think that the input devices are in conflict somehow... I didn't change my xorg.conf as after the first reboot it worked just fine, but for a couple of minutes before the input was lost... My question is: if I install nw-fermi.deb will evtest show on what input device is connected to the touchscreen or a reboot is defently needed?? -- Handling NextWindow Touchscreen (multitouch) https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/379313 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to xserver-xorg-input-evdev in ubuntu. ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp
[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 573557] [NEW] nvidia-current 195.36.15 + kernel 2.6.32 + dual cards crashes system
Public bug reported: This is a followup on a bug discussion started in bug https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/nvidia-graphics- drivers/+bug/548362 This bugs is related to a crash when loading X, for PC with at least two nVidia graphics cards and using the nvidia-current drivers (195.36.15) with kernel 2.6.32-any version. In my case the installation was done with a clean install of Kubuntu Lucid Lynx - booting with the two graphics cards and the nouveau driver works fine. Installing the nVidia driver went also fine, but during reboot the computer froze right around the time X should load. The computer is totally unresponsive, only a hard reset allows rebooting. The booting issue goes away if one of the two cards is removed or, if using a 2.6.31 kernel with the two cards attached. Note that in my case only one card has two screens attached, the other has non, for GPU computing. Using the 195.36.24 nvidia-current driver (from ppa) gives the same results. This bug is still present after applying all available updates for Lucid. Attached is the nvidia-bug-report, which aggregate most useful information. What I did was: 1) Start from working 2.6.31 2) reboot on 2.6.32 = crash 3) wait 2 minutes 4) hard reboot to 2.6.31 5) nvidia-bug-report.sh In the nvidia-bug-report text file you have aggregated (among other files) the Xorg.0.log and Xorg.0.log.old (just search for 'Xorg.0' to find them). However at the beginning of each log you'll see that the kernel is 2.6.31... In other words during the 2.6.32 boot X did not manage to start logging... [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 555169] Re: Keyboard and mouse freeze after grub
I have quite similar problem: On normal boot keyboard and mouse freeze (few seconds after GDM prompt). On rescue boot + resume (no X, just console) it freezes too (few seconds after login prompt) = not an X issue On rescue boot + failsafeX everything works fine On rescue boot + root / netroot login + manual gdm start everything works fine = not an X issue With a good timing, when a key is being pressed in the same moment as the freeze happens, this key is repeated infinitely. I tried to compare ps -A outputs to check what additional process are started on normal/resume boot (via ssh when input has been disabled), but haven't found anything interesting. Tested keyboard + mouse setups: Microsoft Wireless Keyboard 3000 v2.0 + Microsoft Wireless Mouse 5000 (shared USB receiver). Old PSX keyboard + Logitech USB - keyboard freezed, mouse functioned properly. When I have removed my custom xorg.conf (nvidia driver tweenview setup), gnome usually works (same xorg.conf works fine during rescue boot + netroot + manual gdm), but it still doesn't fix the rescue+resume console login (no X at this time). [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 301958] Re: [needs-packaging] no working driver for sis 671/771 video cards
Guten tag Jonas This very bug is marked as won't fix. I will try the driver pointed by Ricardo, usually 32-bit drivers won't work on 64-bit os, I have seen it elsewhere so the reason for the question. I now have both my standard working machines in a bad state with production Lucid, the other one (a spare old toshiba a10) does not display a bit, and was working on Karmic. Please do understand that we, Ubuntu unconditionals (came from Fedora when they told us kde4 was the only issue, and it was unusable at the time) feel stuck now, having their business computers stuck with an LTS. If I could compile the old driver I would have made a shortcut on the migration. I will try to do my best to help others. And to end, my problem is that bugs are marked as won't fix, but no alternative advices or questions are posed to get to know the relation of this bug with other bugs and direct questions to proper listeners, so improving the general quality of community support. This is said by a guy having for long developed 32-bit assembler kernel modules for w*. Arrogance here is seems to be the motto, we could improve a lot if curiosity and tolerance could be employed. [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 573628] Re: pointer selection is ineffective
** Description changed: Binary package hint: xorg - start + The “Appearance Preferences” applet offers the option to “Customize” the + display theme. When using this option, the last tab of the “Customize + Theme” dialog offers customization of the pointer (mouse cursor) theme. + Several options are presented. - end + I noticed that (on my machine, at least), picking any theme other than + the default doesn’t seem to have any effect (nor does the “Size” setting + on the same window). After a bit of investigation, I noticed that it is + used, but inconsistently. (You can more easily reproduce/check these + cases by picking a very obvious theme, e.g. “redglass”, and zooming it + to maximum.) + + First of all, on the “main” Firefox windows, the theme is always used + according to mouse position: over “nothing in particular” it’s the + “arrow”, over text it turns to the “text cursor” shape, links get a + different arrow, around the window borders it’s the appropriate + “resizing arrow” offered by the theme. + + All other windows I’ve checked seem inconsistent: + + 1) Firefox “auxiliary” windows, e.g. “Add-ons” or “Downloads” start + inconsistently: they seem to use the “default” cursor for the “normal” + arrow and the window-resizing ones. However, once the pointer goes + something needing the “text cursor”, it reverts to the “main window” + behavior of Firefox, i.e. all cursors become themed (including the + “normal arrow” and the window resizing pointers). + + 2) Most other windows (all that I’ve checked, including Nautilus, the terminal, and the appearance applet) have a different inconsistency: +2.a) They use the “default” (non-themed) arrow for normal situations. +2.b) When the cursor should be changed because of window contents, e.g. over text fields, the themed version is used. (This doesn’t “switch” behavior as FF; when the cursor is moved over “normal” widgets it returns to the non-themed arrow cursor. +2.c) When a window-resizing cursor is need, a themed version is used, but it is that of the cursor theme that was picked when the window was opened. (Suppose you start with a “default”, i.e. un-themed pointer; open a terminal, write “default” in it. Then switch to a themed cursor, say “DMZ Black” zoomed to maximum; open a second terminal and write “DMZ” in it. Then switch to “redglass” with minimum zoom; open a third terminal, write “red” in it. Now move your mouse over the terminals. All three terminals will show the red text cursor over their “text” area, the unthemed cursor over their menu area, and each a different kind of arrows when resizing, matching what is written in them.) + + There might be other inconsistencies I haven’t noticed yet. + + (Please ignore my non-standard kernel. It’s a “vanilla” version I’m + using for tests of other bugs. The bug I’m reporting here occurs the + same with a normal Ubuntu kernel.) [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 568779] Re: [i855] 10.04 rc boots into black/blank screen
*** This bug is a duplicate of bug 541511 *** https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/541511 Spoke too soon (see #80). Cheese Webcam Booth crashes the system with my particular webcam - whereas it didn't with the workarounds (eg xx.x .20 kernel and 'mainline' kernel - or was that 'mainstream', I forget)... ho hum... Still, at least it's (as proposed) now a bootable system, if not perfect David -- [i855] 10.04 rc boots into black/blank screen https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/568779 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to xserver-xorg-video-intel in ubuntu. ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp
