Same here. Fix working. About the same config (64 bit lucid, and 8500 card). So I guess setting System Preferences Appearance to none and adding compiz --use-root-window --replace to System Preferences Startup Applications. [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 574152] Re: 64bit Ubuntu 10.04 Stops Responding
What is the name of the actual package that the apport-collect utility is trying to find? According to the failure response back it appears to be looking for xorg-server however that package isn't available from any repository that I have. j...@daywalker:~$ apt-cache search xorg-server That yields no response back for any package. Should this utility be actually looking for xserver-xorg? I checked with man apport-collect to see if I could specify a specific package such as xserver-xorg but this doesn't appear to be an option at this time. [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 562005] Re: Backlight controls on ThinkPad T510 no longer function when using proprietary drivers
Hey Tom, Thanks for notifying the nvidia developers, hopefully they release a fix soon. However, I don't think 'in progress' is the right status, unless you are taking responsibility for releasing a fix. I think the correct procedure would be to set the status to 'triaged', post updates here that you/we/others find on the nvidia forums, and then wait for a ubuntu-developer to pick up the bug. Jamey Sharp, an X.org upstream, has taken a look at this and said: All those I could find look like one of two cases: Either the app called Xlib from multiple threads without calling XInitThreads first; or it opened a Display, fork()ed, and used the Display from both processes. Both would be bugs in the application. A few duplicates were reported against python-gasp, which was fixed recently. marked 575227 as duplicate. here is the other description: with a clean installed lucid on a hp dx 6050 desktop computer i get a somehow shifted screen: with a resolution of 1024x768 the left part of the display area is missing and gets displayed at the right corner. also the bottom parts is missing, but this doesn't get displayed at the top. instead the first pixel from the top seem to be repeated ~30times. (see photo). making screenshots doesn't show this behaviour. anyway this doesn't seem to be related to a misconfigured monitor because the mouse has it's active point in the vertical middle and horizontal left of the mouse-icon. when running xrandx the screen gets blanked for a short time. -- [Geforce4 MX440 / nForce2 / NV18] Screen flickering during start-up and while logged in https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/575092 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to xserver-xorg-video-nouveau in ubuntu. ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 575724] [NEW] /etc/dbus-1/system.d/xserver-xorg.conf allows D-BUS interfaces on all objects
*** This bug is a security vulnerability *** Public security bug reported: Binary package hint: xorg In Lucid (xserver-xorg1:7.5+5ubuntu1), /etc/dbus-1/system.d/xserver- xorg.conf reads: busconfig policy context=default allow own=org.x.config.display0/ allow send_destination=org.x.config.display0/ allow send_interface=org.x.config.display0/ allow own=org.x.config.display1/ allow send_destination=org.x.config.display1/ allow send_interface=org.x.config.display1/ allow own=org.x.config.display2/ allow send_destination=org.x.config.display2/ allow send_interface=org.x.config.display2/ /policy /busconfig If I'm not mistaken, this is plain wrong, because the 'send_interface' lines will allow any sender to talk to any destination. From e.g. bug 318753 (The D-Bus policy needs checking!): *IMPORTANT* you MUST include send_destination on ALL allow or deny tags. Omitting it is a SERIOUS bug! !-- !! SERIOUS BUG !! -- allow send_interface=x.y.z / This allows any service to receive method calls of the given interface, not just your own service! It also implicitly allows any service to receive method calls with no interface specified, in case they match this interface! Using the above means you are potentially allowing exploiting of a different service. DO NOT DO IT! So I'd say the file should be changed to: busconfig policy context=default allow own=org.x.config.display0/ allow send_destination=org.x.config.display0 send_interface=org.x.config.display0/ allow own=org.x.config.display1/ allow send_destination=org.x.config.display1 send_interface=org.x.config.display1/ allow own=org.x.config.display2/ allow send_destination=org.x.config.display2 send_interface=org.x.config.display2/ /policy /busconfig Not sure this as actual consequences currently, but better check this. [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 568988] Re: [Lucid][Ubuntu 10.04][ATI cards] Slow/freeze windows management (resize, maximise, .etc) with fglrx driver + compositing desktop.
@19 If it is a leak then dont worry about it in the start of your computer. I check this back with my Computer. Depending on th number of open windows and their size, Xorg take between 100 and 200 M at Start. When these Value is nearly the same +/- 20-30M after a few hours, i think you dont have a leak. If it increase to 500M or so with no windows open then i would say, there can be a leak. So it comes to another question: Why do we use graphic card with 1 or 2 G of own memory? There must be an profit for us to do so. I think a pice of that amount of memory are objects cached by Xorg and will be destroyed by xorg after a amount of time... -- [Lucid][Ubuntu 10.04][ATI cards] Slow/freeze windows management (resize, maximise, .etc) with fglrx driver + compositing desktop. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/568988 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to fglrx-installer in ubuntu. ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp
