[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 476817] Re: [i855] [i855] [karmic] X freezes with intel 855GM videocard

2010-05-06 Thread Alkis Georgopoulos
I can also confirm that the ppa kernel works for me in Lucid, while
without it I can't boot my old laptop.

My card is:
00:02.0 VGA compatible controller [0300]: Intel Corporation 82852/855GM
Integrated Graphics Device [8086:3582] (rev 02)

2.6.32-20.30 => Last one that boots, crashes with Xv
2.6.32-21.32 => It hangs when X starts
2.6.32-22.33 => It hangs when X starts
2.6.34rc3-51.2 => Works fine with KMS and Xv and everything.
One minor glitch, I'm sometimes seeing a black square over the Xv video (e.g.
on totem but not on vlc), covering all of the video. In totem, when I open a
menu and close it, that black square goes where the menu was. And when I switch
to fullscreen it goes away so I can see the video normally. (for more details
see my posts in bug #511001)

Please backport that newest patch for Lucid. :)

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 511001] Re: [i855] Lucid Freeze shortly after X startup (needs KMS blacklist?)

2010-05-06 Thread Alkis Georgopoulos
Thank you for the tip Willem, with that kernel I'm also able to boot with KMS
on and Xv and everything.
I only noticed a small glitch, in Xv sometimes (e.g. in totem, but not with
fullscreen nor in vlc) there's a black overlay over the video. And if I click
on a totem menu, and then I close the totem menu, the black overlay is left
where the menu was.

Anyway, it's very workable with that kernel, thanks again.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 505494] Re: Mouse events fail frequently and unpredictably, requiring kwin restart

2010-05-06 Thread Martin Dreher
@ Patrick Dawkins

Yes, after trying around I found out the same thing!

For example, when I click on the App Launcher in the taskbar, the mouse
will not actually work in the applauncher unless I right-click on the
symbol or anywhere in the taskbar again..

Quite annoying! I really hope there will be a patch for this because I
actually was still in the process of switching to Ubuntu and now I find
myself going back to Windows which is so slow!

2010-05-06 Thread Stephen Warren
petter wahlman (comment #44), I suspect your bug is different; with ddd,
there's a very specific and reproducible way to make this happen. That
issue is covered by bug 574157. My quick reading of the rest of this bug
is that it's something that happens randomly to people whilst not doing
anything specific and/or repeatable.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 576646] Re: Ubuntu 10.04 occasionally hangs for a couple of seconds

2010-05-06 Thread onyxrev
For what it's worth, even though the keyboard and mouse become
unresponsive, the system overall continues to plow on just fine. Ongoing
scripts running in my terminals keep going.

Another factor to consider is that I run a system with encrypted root,
home, storage, and swap partitions, although I don't have any reason to
believe the issue is IO related.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 570584] Re: Geode driver not display Screensaver

2010-05-06 Thread Hunk Cui
Through compare the ‘fading’ option and ‘not fading’ option, print
the Xserver and Geode-driver debugging information on the SSH terminal.
I found the ‘fading’ option trigger the Geode-driver (lx_display.c ->
lx_crtc_gamma_set function), but the ‘not fading’ option does not
trigger this function.

I had a test, the following change:

static void

lx_crtc_gamma_set(xf86CrtcPtr crtc, CARD16 * red, CARD16 * green,

CARD16 * blue, int size)

{

unsigned int dcfg;

int i;

DebugP("lx_crtc_gamma_set /by Hunk\n");

#if 0

assert(size == 256);

for (i = 0; i < 256; i++) {

unsigned int val = (*red << 8) | *green | (*blue >> 8);

df_set_video_palette_entry(i, val);

}

/* df_set_video_palette_entry automatically turns on

 * gamma for video - if this gets called, we assume that

 * RandR wants it set for graphics, so reverse cimarron

 */

dcfg = READ_VID32(DF_DISPLAY_CONFIG);

dcfg &= ~DF_DCFG_GV_PAL_BYP;

WRITE_VID32(DF_DISPLAY_CONFIG, dcfg);

#endif
}

After re-make the Geode-driver, when I run the ‘fading’ option, the
client program ( xscreensaver ) also print the debugging information
about “fading…/ fading done”, now the screensaver is properly display.
So through the test, I am sure that the main reason is upper function
(lx_crtc_gamma_set).

The ‘not display screensaver’ bug reason was found.

I will follow it….

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 574152] Re: 64bit Ubuntu 10.04 Stops Responding

I had top running in a terminal window on my gnome desktop the last time
the bug event happened, and it looked like top stopped updating the
information being displayed until the system became responsive once
again. I will create an ssh connection from my laptop which is running
Ubuntu 9.10 to the system I am having problems with. When the Lucid
system stops responding, I will see if there is any response in a
previously active ssh session.

Re: [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 305301] Re: [RC410] Xpress 200M hangs when resuming from suspend with DRI (needs KMS)

2010-05-06 Thread gene
I am sorry, forgot to also mention that suspend did not work for me either
after the upgrade to Lucid:
$uname -a
Linux  2.6.32-22-generic #33-Ubuntu SMP Wed Apr 28 13:27:30 UTC 2010 i686
GNU/Linux
Not to mention that KMS has been very buggy for this video card: would
frequently freeze the system (will report it later) and has a much inferior
xvid performance. Too raw at the moment, the suspend issue is the minor one.

PS Will be using my mutt instead of firefox, since it has no emacs

This is ok with me. I do keep an eye on this one, however, I don't have much
faith in the slogan "kms+rc410=love", in another other life maybe... Since the
upgrade to 10.04 I get a lot of bugs which as a good citizen I will have to
report. So a lot of excuses So, good luck and thanks!

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 575584] Re: Lucid Lynx - Increasing monitor resolution results in invisible mouse pointer.

2010-05-06 Thread Nigel Atkinson
My eeePC 900 running Lucid does not suffer this problem - leading me to
believe it might be some how hardware (graphics) related - perhaps a
unique code path, or something failing, preventing the pointer being
'unhidden'. Thats just my programming intuitive guess however.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 444674] Re: Mouse behaves strange on clicking in graphical environment

2010-05-06 Thread Ian Teem
Installed fresh Lucid 10.04 on a Dell D600, problem still exists. Left
mouse button sticks when pressing either of the left physical buttons,
have to resort to pressing the right mouse button to unstick. Clicking
by tapping the touchpad works fine.

Changing bios setting to "PS/2 Mouse" instead of "Touchpad - PS/2 mouse"
had no effect.

Adding Timo's suggestion to psmouse.conf worked.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 394402] Re: [RV250] 32MB r200 DRI Slow - Fails to allocate texture

2010-05-06 Thread Pat Suwalski
Looks like it's been solved one way or another.

AccelMethod "XAA" no longer seems to do anything. Whether it's there or
not, this is in the Xorg.log:

(II) RADEON(0): EXA: Driver will not allow EXA pixmaps in VRAM
(...)
(II) RADEON(0): Setting EXA maxPitchBytes
(II) EXA(0): Driver allocated offscreen pixmaps
(II) EXA(0): Driver registered support for the following operations:
(II) Solid
(II) Copy
(II) Composite (RENDER acceleration)
(II) UploadToScreen
(II) DownloadFromScreen

But there are no odd allocation errors, and it seems to work as well as
it did when I was using XAA. So it seems solved.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 549727] Re: [10.04] Touchpad stops working after login

2010-05-06 Thread aswanson
I just noticed this problem tonight. I'm not sure how long its been
going on for, I normally use a USB mouse. Using a HP dv5z-1000 with the
64 bit version of Lucid and all the latest updates. I just tried
switching terminals and switching back like Linuxslate suggested, and
its working at least for now. Seems like this should be a fairly high
priority if its affecting as many different people and systems as it
seems to be, especially since on a laptop, you often don't have a way to
use a conventional usb mouse.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 505494] Re: Mouse events fail frequently and unpredictably, requiring kwin restart

2010-05-06 Thread Patrick Dawkins
@ Martin Dreher

I can confirm there is a similar symptom, possibly of the same disease,
in Ubuntu 10.04 LTS.

It's milder but still abominable. The way I have it, in GNOME, the mouse
events end up working only in one window (or panel), but right-clicking
once in that window allows you to click on another window. The new
window will then grab the mouse events, and so on...

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 487362] Re: xorg is eating up memory

2010-05-06 Thread Boerny
Still suvering from this Bug in Kubuntu Lucid 10.04 LTS.
Every time i use Plasmoid MicroBlogging Xorg a huge amount of memory is used.
I tested it with three instances of the Plasmoid. On First update it uses about
50MB for ever instance. On every refresh new memory is used.
So that after a hour my memory usage for process xorg (in top) is by 1600MB and
uses 30-50% of CPU.
xrestop says Plasma-Desktop is using about 600MB.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 112310] Re: Setting Wacom pen button to double click doesn't work

2010-05-06 Thread levien
As suggested in bug #446943 I added the following two lines to the first
section of /usr/lib/X11/xorg.conf.d/10-wacom.conf in Lucid:

Option "Button2" "3"
Option "Button3" "dblclick 1"

Button 2 now works as expected, but for button 3 Xorg still complains that the
value should be an integer and refuses to work. When using the values 196609 or
17 Xorg does not complain, but double click events also don't work.
When using xsetwacom no errors are logged, but again the double click event is
not emitted.

I also tested the xsetwacom method without compiz, but the result was
the same. Also with Metacity I could not get double click events to
work...

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 488152] Re: [RV710] With ATI restricted driver deactivated, GPU is overheating

2010-05-06 Thread Richard Theil
Launchpad bug 570589 is somewhat of a more general duplicate of this, as
it describes the problem with all ATI cards using KMS, not just the
RV710 we discuss here. Mentioned there, and as an addendum to my post
with the measurements, the dead Nvidia card was running the closed
Nvidia driver under karmic, so the whole complex might reach even
further.

unresponsive, the system overall continues to plow on just fine.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 292214] Re: Xinerama broken since intrepid on MGA

2010-05-06 Thread Tom Adams
I spoke a little too soon. Things *mostly* work, but there's an
irritating bug I've hit 3 times where the mouse cursor rapidly flashes
and the mouse locks up. It looks as though it's confused about which
monitor it's on and some of the flashes are on the far right of my
leftmost monitor and some on the far left of my right monitor. In
earlier release I've seen a couple other quirks where there's some
confusion about which area is part of which monitor, but this is teh
first time there's a lock up.

I've attached my /var/log/Xorg.0.log. There're some errors in there
that might be informative if (unlike me) you actually know what you're
doing. Here's the bit that caught my attention:

[mi] EQ overflowing. The server is probably stuck in an infinite loop.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 509331] Re: Duplicate mouse pointer on dual head with rotated display(s)

2010-05-06 Thread styro
Thanks Bryce, I'll be installing Lucid soon to test this.

In the meantime, a colleague on the same hardware who has already
upgraded to Lucid reports that the duplicate pointer issue went away,
but that rotating the secondary screen caused a scrambling of the image
on the screen as the pointer moved.

I remember a similar issue on this hardware back with 9.04.

As soon as I can confirm for myself, I'll post an update.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 576648] [NEW] package nvidia-current 195.36.15-0ubuntu3 failed to install/upgrade: nvidia-current kernel module failed to build

2010-05-06 Thread WayOutThere
Public bug reported:

Brand new install of 10.04 onto a formatted hard drive. The upgrade icon
said there was a restricted driver available - I clicked it. When I was
running a Windows XP VMWare image, the video seemed to completely reset.
I had to shut down and restart.

apport information

** Tags added: apport-collected

** Description changed:

  Binary package hint: xserver-xorg

  In 10.04, with DVI-D output, the screen saver often kicks in even while
  typing, or mousing away.

  Another keystroke then wakes it up again. Mouse movements don't.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 576646] [NEW] Ubuntu 10.04 occasionally hangs for a couple of seconds

2010-05-06 Thread onyxrev
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: xorg

Every now and then my system sporadically hangs for 2-3 seconds. I
haven't determined a pattern or cause for hanging, although it appears
to be related to new windows coming up (instantiating gnome-do or a new
instant message, for example).

I'm running Ubuntu 10.04 64-bit.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 357901] Re: xinerama mouse cursor on every screen

2010-05-06 Thread Günter Dressel
Well, the problem is not fixed on my machine.
Just upgraded to 10.4 and plugged in a beamer at the 2nd port on my notebook
(GeForce 9200M GS).
I haven't had tested the 2nd port ever before...

Made a split screen (+xinerama) setup through the nvidia settings tool.
When I move the mouse from the first screen to the second, I can't move
it back - it sticks on the second screen.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 574152] Re: 64bit Ubuntu 10.04 Stops Responding

2010-05-06 Thread onyxrev
I believe I am running into this same problem. Sporadically the
computer stops responding for around 2-3 seconds. I am running 10.04
amd64 on a Macbook 4,1.

Currently subscribing via Launchpad is broken, I get an error, so I
cannot submit an apport report, but included are my Xorg and lspci logs.
