New experience:
I have a dual boot (windows xp/Ubuntu, each running on its own HDD). After the

1. I had to disconnect Ubuntu drive
2. use windows disk and run fixmbr and fixboot commands
3. reconnect Ubuntu's hdd
4. start windows
5. next day, when I wanted to check bug status, it seems the bug is gone.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 553081] Re: [lucid kvm-qemu]High cpu usage when moving mouse

2010-05-09 Thread lavinog
I am attempting to install Lubuntu, but I am getting the same behavior with the
live cd (there is no alt install yet).
The problem here is that clicking install causes the screen to flicker and the
installation dialog keeps moving down...I suspect this to be caused by this bug
since I have experienced similar issues when running ubuntu with kvm and
vmmouse active.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 516520] Re: login fails with nvidia driver 96

2010-05-09 Thread Woonjas
*** This bug is a duplicate of bug 553200 ***
https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/553200

I've run into this login loop on my z61m Thinkpad with ATI Radeon card.
The workaround by logging into tty, stopping gdm and then using startx gets me
into X

After creating a new user and restarting gdm, I noticed that the logon
works for the new user, but not for my own account which was working
fine before upgrading from Karmic (64 bit).

To me this indicates a problem with saved preferences, but I'm not sure
which .xx directories (or individual files) I need to delete/modify
to get my account to work again.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 294925] Re: nvidia 3D/compiz performance is greatly reduced in Intrepid

2010-05-09 Thread Rocko
The openarena benchmarks are worse again in Ubuntu 10.04:

with compiz on: ~175 fps

with compiz off: ~215 fps

Compare this with Hardy, ~450 fps, and Intrepid, ~250 fps, both with
compiz running.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 574746] Re: [VX800] serve Xorg performance regression (fullscreen flash)

2010-05-09 Thread Thomas Schlichter
Hi,

I finally found the reason for the worse x11perf ShmPutImage results,
which turned out to be unrelated to the flash fullscreen issue, and I
found a way to fix the fullscreen flash issue here.

First, the worse x11perf ShmPutImage are a result of this change in xorg:
http://cgit.freedesktop.org/xorg/xserver/commit/?id=11817a881cb93a89788105d1e575a468f2a8d27c

With this change reverted, I get back the high benchmark result, but I
see that the described bug is reintroduced and it does _not_ help the
fullscreen flash issue. So it's better to not revert this change...

But then I found an easy way to get the good karmic fullscreen flash
experience. I simply had to disable hardware acceleration in the flash
preferences. So this bug seems to be in the flash player trying to use
hardware acceleration which is not available...

So thank you for your attention, and sorry for the noise!

Kind regards,
  Thomas

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 511001] Re: [i855] Lucid Freeze shortly after X startup (needs KMS blacklist?)

2010-05-09 Thread kaefert
I upgraded yesterday from 9.10 to 10.04 and now compiz doesn't work
anymore. I never had any problems with Graphics with the past Ubuntu
versions.

My Graphiccard is an:
~$ lspci | grep VGA
00:02.0 VGA compatible controller: Intel Corporation Mobile 945GME Express
Integrated Graphics Controller (rev 03)

My Kernel:
~$ uname -a
Linux Computername 2.6.32-22-generic #33-Ubuntu SMP Wed Apr 28 13:27:30 UTC
2010 i686 GNU/Linux

I think that my problem is what Rick Spencer said in comment #33 -- that they
disabled 3D and KMS for these chips.
Can somebody tell me how to enable it again? I had no stability issues yet.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 577726] [NEW] X server is causing applets to crash

2010-05-09 Thread ComputerJy
Public bug reported:

I've just added a new screen to my system. I have an NVidia graphics adapter.
I tried adjusting the settings from the NVidia settings manager to use separate
screens. It required to restart X. so I did, actually I restarted the whole
computer at a point. But whenever I login I keep getting tons of Starting File
Manager in the window list applet. Also the Xorg process is hogging at least
%80 of my CPU.

There is no way so far to stop this, except for getting back to the
twin-view mode

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 308191] Re: Multitouch support not available for -synaptics

2010-05-09 Thread Matteo Rossi
I confirm the bug on a Sony VPCCW2C5E with Synaptics touchpad V7.2.

Windows driver reports up to three fingers with Shift+Alt+i. Under
Lucid, synclient -m only one finger. Sometimes I experience some spazzy
pointer behavior.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 577771] [NEW] Laptop monitor is always turned on automatically

2010-05-09 Thread Ábel
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: xorg

I use my laptop with an external monitor and even though I disable the laptop
screen, it is always turned on automatically when:
- Someone logs in or changes user
- I run the command xrandr, even without any arguments
- I try to start compiz
I've tried turning it off by running xrandr and by using the GUI from the
System menu, it remained turned off until I did anything listed above.

I have this problem since I upgraded to Ubuntu 10.04 from 9.10, which
was working fine.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 572986] Re: lose X display periodiclly; switching VT's restores it

2010-05-09 Thread Matt Price
i can see there are some more severe intel-related bugs but this one is not
insignificant for me -- it means among other things that none of my family
members can ever use my computer, since they can't reset the vt. Are there any
workarounds or suggestions? Would it make sense to try oneo f the many ppas
wtih newer intel drivers, e.g. the 2.11git ppa
(https://launchpad.net/~glasen/+archive/intel-driver)? Alternatively cn i do
some testing? Thanks,
Matt

2010-05-09 Thread Mattias Kajsten

install them which failed. In addition, when checking for updates, it
seems as it initiate an _upgrade_. After a few seconds, it says that the
system is updated.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 511001] Re: [i855] Lucid Freeze shortly after X startup (needs KMS blacklist?)

2010-05-09 Thread kaefert
Okey, so I found what I was looking for, a way to revert the disabling
of all the 3d stuff (here:
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/X/Bugs/Lucidi8xxFreezes)

These are the commands that do the trick:
echo options i915 modeset=1 | sudo tee /etc/modprobe.d/i915-kms.conf
sudo update-initramfs -u

The stability issues don't seem to apply for my graphics chip:
00:02.0 VGA compatible controller: Intel Corporation Mobile 945GME Express
Integrated Graphics Controller (rev 03)

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 565407] Re: package fglrx (not installed) failed to install/upgrade: subprocess new pre-installation script returned error exit status 1 - inst_path_default or inst_path_override

2010-05-09 Thread BArrYZ
For me too neither of these steps, however, resulted in a *functioning*
3Ddriver (only 2D it's working).

Now i can install fglrx (after deleting ATI folders) from official
repos, but GLxinfo request fail:

# X Error of failed request: BadRequest (invalid request code or no such
operation)
# Major opcode of failed request: 157 (GLX)
# Minor opcode of failed request: 19 (X_GLXQueryServerString)
# Serial number of failed request: 20
# Current serial number in output stream: 20

In the AMDcc panel i can see 2d driver working, but not at all OpenGL
reference driver, and of course compiz or any 3D Apps it's working

I'm with a HD2600pro - 10.4 - 32bit
