[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 579764] Re: Computer fails to completely boot hangs at tty login
This bug affects my machine too. It started to occur randomly after I upgraded to Lucid. If I login and run "sudo start gdm" then gdm starts up correctly. Onboard nVidia GeForce 6150. 64bit Ubuntu 10.04 gdm 2.30.2-0ubuntu1 As you can see, I upgraded to the gdm package in ubuntu-proposed but that did not fix the issue. It looks like X.org is trying to start before the nVidia kernel module is loaded. X.org fails at 06:08:19 and the kernel module does not seem to be loaded until 06:08:21 >From Xorg.log: (EE) May 22 06:08:19 NVIDIA(0): Failed to initialize the NVIDIA kernel module. [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 584202] Re: [Lucid] [ATi Mobility Radeon X1600]GL renderer not installed, firefox crashes at flash video maximization, compiz effects broke
Did some extra digging, https://wiki.ubuntu.com/X/Drivers Followed the instructions to install fglrx drivers. When I ran the command: sudo update-alternatives --config gl_conf An interesting list shows up: Nvidia driver is at priority 9700 fglrx driver is at priority 1000 Vesa driver is at priority 600 (Can't remember exact) This probably means the driver I'm using now is nvidia running on my ATi mobility radeon card. Don't understand how it works but it has been working ever since I upgraded. Subsequently, I switched to fglrx (manual) and followed the instructions. When I ran the command: aticonfig --initial Output: Compatible adaptor not found I then restarted the system It seemed to work, except the screen resolution is a bit screwed(no wide-screen ratio) But effects still doesn't seem to work, didn't try blender nor ran diagnostics for checks. So I changed back to nvidia through the terminal. When I switched back, some new messages popped: failed to create /usr/lib32/vdpau/libdvpau_nvdia.so.1 libdvpau_nvdia.so.1 not found failed to create /usr/lib32/vdpau/libdvpau_nvdia.so libdvpau_nvdia.so not found I checked into /usr/lib/nvidia-current/vdpau/ there is a link to both files, but the link seem to link to some non-existent library. I restarted again this time after switching. This time it screwed up my graphical interface. After the purple screen boot up to desktop, my screen went blank. Instinctively I tried ctrl+alt+F1. It went to console, works. Tried back ctrl+alt+F7. It went back to desktop, with the colours extremely broken. It seems certain colours are out of range and displayed very weirdly. Screen aspect ratio is also wrong. Tried to install back the driver packages through synaptics to ATi/Nvidia, was a failure. I'm stuck with a faulty display desktop in Lucid, that makes reading a little bit more than inconvenient for the eyes. Subsequently, I installed Karmic back side-by-side. Karmic works fine, at this time of writing. I'm laying my Lucid dormant until, hopefully, someone with better expertise could help with this issue. -- [Lucid] [ATi Mobility Radeon X1600]GL renderer not installed, firefox crashes at flash video maximization, compiz effects broke https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/584202 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to xorg in ubuntu. ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 584407] [NEW] [Intel G35 on P5E-VM Mobo] No output on VGA port after idle period
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: xorg Problem Description - In pre-Lucid days, up to Karmic, I've always been able to move my monitor out of sleep mode by moving the mouse or pressing any key. I can't do that anymore after I upgraded the system to Lucid LTS 10.04. Following an idle period on my PC, and after the monitor goes into sleep mode, I can't get any more video output on my VGA port, no matter what I do. The computer remains alive however, I can ssh into it from another machine and work with it normally. Using this remote terminal I can restart GDM and I can hear the PC working and the "drumming" noise of GDM starting, but there is no video output. The only way to get it back is by rebooting the computer. Solution -- Following Ubuntu's "troubleshooting xorg freezes" guide, I added the line Option "DPMS" "Off" to the monitor section of my xorg config file and everything is fine now, well, without the DPMS feature :-( Other Info: - Bug #509186 reports a similar problem with the G35 chip set. However, I see no errors in my Xorg log files. It works in lucid64, and I find that 3d performance is nicely improved in wine apps. Re: [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 353126] Re: Compiz / vnc screen refresh with nvidia-restricted driver/VirtualBox/ATI fglrx driver using X.org
Actually since the issue has been reported to the nvidia devs only about a month ago I'd say they have been really quick. Anyhow, for lucid users which don't want to fiddle around too much it may be more convenient to look if the updated driver appears in the proprietary-video-improvements PPA (https://launchpad.net/~albertomilone/+archive/proprietary-video-improvements) some time soon instead of installing manually (though I have no idea if and when it will appear). [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 572521] Re: vertical coloured lines on bootup dell inspiron 1501
Hi Bryce/Frank, I have the same bug in my laptop Inpiron 1501. I'm running Lucid Lynx, with 2.6.31-22-generic kernel. I have less than 6 months experience with Ubuntu, and I'm very happy so far. In karmik koala I found the same symptoms when turn off, but nothing to worry. A couple months later, the symptom appears in login screen, but closing an opening the lid the problem was resolving. Now, with lucid, I have to login with the colored bars screen (blind login ja) and then stand by the laptop, and wakeup, this way is the provisional solution. So which files I have to upload to help the resolutions of this bug? By the way, I'm from Mendoza, Argentina (goood wines here). Re: [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 353126] Re: Compiz / vnc screen refresh with nvidia-restricted driver/VirtualBox/ATI fglrx driver using X.org
In karmic it should be no problem: - Uninstall any nvidia packages installed from the ubuntu repos - Download the beta driver and make it executable (chmod +x /path/to/NVIDIA-Linux-(x86|x86_64)-256.25.run) - Switch to a virtual terminal (i.e. ctrl+alt+f2), login - Stop X: sudo service gdm stop - Check you've installed the build-essential package: sudo apt-get install build-essential - Install the driver: sudo /path/to/NVIDIA-Linux-(x86|x86_64)-256.25.run - Reboot For lucid users it is more complicated, for example see http://www.ubuntugeek.com/howto-install-nvidia-drivers-manually-on-ubuntu-10-04-lucid-lynx.html (haven't tested myself). [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 584246] [NEW] Temporary screen corruption / glitches on Ubuntu x86-64
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: xserver-xorg-core Hi, during normal usage of my computer, my screen occasionally partially corrupts, especially the lower fifth or so of the screen, sometimes the lower half. It's mostly just multi-coloured garbage (I sometimes get the impression, it's a lot of orange and black) mixed with the real contents of the screen and lasts for under a second. Sometimes this happens more often, sometimes less often, and I have yet to find out, why. I'm reporting this for core, as I've seen this on two different notebooks (HP dv9700 and Lenovo Thinkpad T400), with three different graphics cards (Nvidia Geforce 8400M GS on the HP / ATI Mobility Radeon HD3470, Intel GMA4500 MHD on the Lenovo), both using the amd64 version of Ubuntu 10.04. On both laptops I've seen this using Ubuntu from the live CD, so it happens in stock Ubuntu. Sorry, if this bug already exists, but I couldn't find anything matching. ** Affects: xorg-server (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New ** Tags: amd64 garbage screen x64 x86-64 -- Temporary screen corruption / glitches on Ubuntu x86-64 https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/584246 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to xorg-server in ubuntu. ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 560180] Re: wacom buttons don't work/cause mouse to move to upper left corner and click.
Thank you for the help, but the problem has been recognized. No need for any more confirmations :). Regarding SRU updates, it seems (per the SRU Updates wiki) that what is missing in this report is: 1) A patch with the minimal fix that can fix the current package (i.e. setting to relative mode, none other) 2) An upload of the fixed package to release-proposed, the above patch, and a changelog. So it is still up to us to help get this going. I cannot write this patch, so the task cannot rely on me. -- wacom buttons don't work/cause mouse to move to upper left corner and click. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/560180 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to xf86-input-wacom in ubuntu. ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 584169] [NEW] TV output has stationary horizontal gray stripes
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: xorg System is Ubuntu 10.04 (Lucid). Package versions: xserver-common 2:1.7.6-2ubuntu7 xserver-xorg1:7.5+5ubuntu1 xserver-xorg-core 2:1.7.6-2ubuntu7 xserver-xorg-input-all 1:7.5+5ubuntu1 xserver-xorg-video-radeon 1:6.13.0-1ubuntu5 Problem only appeared after upgrade to Ubuntu 10.04, was not present in 09.10. Video card is ATI Technologies Inc RV280 [Radeon 9200]. The employed X driver is radeon (NOT fglrx). fglrx was not checked. TV out has stationary, evenly spaced, gray stripes, spaced at about 10px one from another, and of width about 7 px. The regular computer display (MAG CRT) has no artifacts. Modifying the video output standard did not help. TV out resolution is 800x600. The same behavior has been reported for a recent Fedora xorg - Fedora Bug 585490 - https://bugzilla.redhat.com/show_bug.cgi?id=585490 ProblemType: Bug DistroRelease: Ubuntu 10.04 Package: xorg 1:7.5+5ubuntu1 ProcVersionSignature: Ubuntu 2.6.32-22.33-generic 2.6.32.11+drm33.2 Uname: Linux 2.6.32-22-generic i686 Architecture: i386 Date: Sat May 22 13:48:29 2010 DkmsStatus: InstallationMedia: Mythbuntu 9.10 "Karmic Koala" - Release i386 (20091028.4) MachineType: VIA TECHNOLOGIES, INC.
