[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 574152] Re: 64bit Ubuntu 10.04 Stops Responding
Should this (and https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/579115) be marked as duplicates of https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux/+bug/585765 ? And is xorg really the right package, or a just a side effect? The filesystem bug https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux/+bug/515937 seemed a good explanation to me. -- 64bit Ubuntu 10.04 Stops Responding https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/574152 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to xorg-server in ubuntu. ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp
[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 586173] Re: [i945] intel gma 82945G xorg does not work at boot
Could you please provide your Xorg.0.log file after issuing "sudo service gdm start" and "startx" and we'll compare. In a TTY after starting gdm, run cat /var/log/Xorg.0.log Xorg.0.log_gdm.txt And after rebooting and 'startx' cat /var/log/Xorg.0.log Xorg.0.log_startx.txt Then upload both files; they should be in your home directory. Also try booting with the kernel option “video=vga16fb:disable”. I can't reproduce that, what means I don't know a aplication or usage of the system making it freeze. sometimes I have uptimes of a day, without freeze and sometimes it freezes right after booting the system. I found out, that sometimes the MagicSysRQ (R-E-I-S-U-B) works and let me shut down the system, sometimes not. I don't know what makes that difference. In the system log I can't find any unusual entries. But I foun that the system log is still runing, so shuting down the wifi with the notebooks hardware switch for example is logged. [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 531069] Re: Display error when returning from sleep after docking
@Torsten Spindler: I'm pretty sure the original bug was a duplicate of bug #488328, which should have been fixed in the 2.6.32-15 kernel, then fixed again in 2.6.32-19. It looks like your bug might be more subtle, so this might not fix it for you. If it doesn't, there have been a number of similar sounding bugs fixed upstream - the next step in useful testing would be to see if this behaviour still occurs in the Maverick kernel - there's a Lucid backport of the Maverick kernel available in the kernel-team PPA here: https://edge.launchpad.net/~kernel-ppa/+archive/ppa . If it's still reproducible there, testing the drm-intel-next kernel from http://kernel.ubuntu.com/~kernel-ppa/mainline/drm-intel-next/current/ would be the next step. If it's still reproducible there, booting the drm-intel-next kernel appending “drm.debug=0x04” to the kernel boot line (just after “quiet splash”, on the same line) and then attaching dmesg and /var/log/Xorg.0.log after reproducing the problem should give us enough information to start on. ** Changed in: xserver-xorg-video-intel (Ubuntu) Status: Triaged => Incomplete -- Display error when returning from sleep after docking https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/531069 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to xserver-xorg-video-intel in ubuntu. ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 588980] [NEW] Dumped into login screen while using google earth
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: xorg I was scrolling around in Google Earth when the screen suddenly went black. System did not reboot, but shortly the login screen appeared. I have seen this happen several times on this computer, as well as another computer with an older ATI card and 32 bit processor. This did not happen with the ATI proprietary driver on 9.10. I do not know if this happens on the ATI proprietary driver under 10.04 because google earth would crash before the globe appeared with that setup (did not dump me back at the login screen). This is the second time I have attempted to enter this bug. 1st time, I said yes to the request for extra information, waited an hour for 300 MiB to be transfered, then errored out with a "could not connect to database" error. [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 588950] [NEW] XVideo(?) output appears as a one-pixel strip at top of screen when two displays are enabled
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: xserver-xorg-video-intel When I have my LVDS display enabled as well as an external VGA display set up to extend the desktop, many programs which output video function incorrectly. Instead of the video being displayed in the application's window, it is only visible as a one-pixel tall strip at the top of the LVDS display. Dragging the window left and right moves the strip across the top of the screen. The strip of pixels remains even after the program terminates. The strip is never visible on the external display. I have experienced this issue in the following programs: - mplayer - VLC - Totem - Rhythmbox (the audio visualization) - Cheese - Skype - gstreamer-properties In gstreamer-properties the display method can be modified. The bug only occurs of I select "X Window System (X11/XShm/Xv)" for the plugin, and "Intel(R) Textured Video" for the device. The "Intel(R) Video Overlay" device and the "X Window System (No Xv)" plugin function correctly If I have the external monitor clone the LVDS display, the video is displayed correctly To reproduce: - Setup an external monitor to extend the desktop - Run gstreamer-properties - Go to the Video tab - Select "X Window System (X11/XShm/Xv)" for the plugin - Select "Intel(R) Textured Video" for the device - (The pipeline is then shown to be: xvimagesink device="0") - Click test ProblemType: Bug DistroRelease: Ubuntu 10.04 Package: xorg 1:7.5+5ubuntu1 ProcVersionSignature: Ubuntu 2.6.32-22.33-generic 2.6.32.11+drm33.2 Uname: Linux 2.6.32-22-generic i686 Architecture: i386 Date: Wed Jun 2 16:58:45 2010 DkmsStatus: virtualbox-ose, 3.2.0, 2.6.32-22-generic, i686: installed InstallationMedia: Ubuntu-Netbook-Remix 9.10 "Karmic Koala" - Release i386 (20091028.4) MachineType: ASUSTeK Computer INC. 1005HA ProcCmdLine: root=UUID=e180ee0c-ba19-4ff2-96c5-69ea8809d780 ro quiet splash acpi_osi=Linux ProcEnviron: PATH=(custom, user) LANG=en_US.utf8 SHELL=/bin/bash SourcePackage: xorg Symptom: display dmi.bios.date: 09/23/2009 dmi.bios.vendor: American Megatrends Inc. dmi.bios.version: 0905 dmi.board.asset.tag: To Be Filled By O.E.M. dmi.board.name: 1005HA dmi.board.vendor: ASUSTeK Computer INC. dmi.board.version: x.xx dmi.chassis.asset.tag: 0x dmi.chassis.type: 10 dmi.chassis.vendor: ASUSTeK Computer INC. dmi.chassis.version: x.x dmi.modalias: dmi:bvnAmericanMegatrendsInc.:bvr0905:bd09/23/2009:svnASUSTeKComputerINC.:pn1005HA:pvrx.x:rvnASUSTeKComputerINC.:rn1005HA:rvrx.xx:cvnASUSTeKComputerINC.:ct10:cvrx.x: dmi.product.name: 1005HA dmi.product.version: x.x dmi.sys.vendor: ASUSTeK Computer INC. system: distro: Ubuntu codename: lucid architecture: i686 kernel: 2.6.32-22-generic ** Affects: xserver-xorg-video-intel (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New ** Tags: apport-bug i386 lucid ubuntu-une -- XVideo(?) output appears as a one-pixel strip at top of screen when two displays are enabled https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/588950 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to xserver-xorg-video-intel in ubuntu. ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp

Public bug reported: Binary package hint: xkeyboard-config I was advised to report the keyboard layout for Sindhi language here. The new file for keyboard layouts of Pakistan (pk) is attached here. The new keyboard layout is called "MBSindhi", though you can name it "Sindhi" as well. It starts at line 203 in the attached file. This layout is for Sindhi language (locale: sd_PK, sd_IN), though the locale sd_PK is yet to be included. This is is the default keyboard layout widely used for Sindhi in Windows and Linux, but is not included in the Ubuntu's packages. So I am submitting it here to be included in the system. It is not used by the locale sd...@devanagari, which uses a different writing script whereas this keyboard layout is for the Arabic-based script of Sindhi which is the default and official script both in Pakistan and India. ** Affects: xkeyboard-config (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New -- Keyboard layout for Sindhi https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/588918 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to xkeyboard-config in ubuntu. ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 588366] [NEW] Wireless switch position not properly detected
You have been subscribed to a public bug: In 32-bit Lucid Lynx I was able to get the broadcom BCM4212 wireless working with the proprietary driver that I installed. There is however a very annoying bug related to the wireless switch on this Dell Vostro 1320 and I am not sure if it is related to the switch itself, with the wireless driver or with network-manager. What happens is the following: Whenever the computer is turned on (or returning from suspend/hibernate) the current position of the wireless switch is recognized by network- manager (or kernel, don´t know where this is detected) as being in disabled mode. This is fine if that's in fact the position of the switch is actually disabled as enabling it will turn on the hardware (blue wireless light comes on) and network-manager will identify it as active automatically enabling wireless (unless I deactivate it there of course) allowing we to connect. If the switch is actually in the "on" position when the computer is turned on (which it will be most of the time) the blue wireless light is on and seemingly working while network-manager recognizes it as being off and grays out the option of activating wireless. Flipping the switch now will cause network-manager to think it is on (and so it "activates" wireless) but at the same time the hardware is actually turned off (blue light goes off as well) so no networks are ever found. This is really annoying since I always have to reboot/suspend all the time to be able to use wireless. It is even more frustrating because the computer is not mine (I am just configuring it for a complete linux/ubuntu newbie) and my friend is waiting for a fully functional ubuntu. I should also mention that the the switch works as it should in Windows Vista (it's a dual-boot configuration). Trying the behavior from a live-usb (lucid) gives the same results even before activating the proprietary driver (which leads me to believe the problem is not with the driver itself). I checked /var/log/messages and /var/log/kernel and didn´t see any entries when flipping the switch so I do not know if the problem is with network-manager or with the kernel and I also don´t know which log files/command outputs I should include/look into to further troubleshoot but let me know which ones are valid and I´ll include them right away. Short of a solution, any workaround would be very welcome. Such as fooling kernel/network-manager that wireless switch is always on etc. Kristofer ** Affects: xorg-server (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New ** Tags: 1320 broadcom switch vostro wireless -- Wireless switch position not properly detected https://bugs.edge.launchpad.net/bugs/588366 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to xorg-server in ubuntu. ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp

The bad news is, because you only have the stack trace for VLC, the X bug can probably not be investigated. ** Visibility changed to: Public ** Also affects: vlc Importance: Undecided Status: New ** Changed in: vlc Status: New => Fix Committed ** Changed in: vlc Assignee: (unassigned) => Rémi Denis-Courmont (rdenis) ** Changed in: vlc Importance: Undecided => Low ** Changed in: vlc Milestone: None => 1.1.0 ** Changed in: vlc (Ubuntu) Status: New => Confirmed ** Also affects: xorg (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New -- vlc crashed with SIGSEGV in exit() https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/587528 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to xorg in ubuntu. ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 587069] Re: [nvidia] Computer freeze when switching user
apport information ** Tags added: apport-collected ** Description changed: Hi, This problem started happening after upgrading from when I upgraded from Hardy to Lucid 10.04 LTS. I have the black screen when switching between users. The problem doesn't happen immediately, but only after a few switches, or after a certain amount of time, in fact it's pretty unpredictable. If you require further information, please don't hesitate to ask (you may need to give instructions as to how to obtain this info as I'm a relative newbie) I was asked to create this new bug report in Bug #290704. The symptoms of this bug look the same, but for a different graphics card. (n.b. I was unable to report bug using $ ubuntu-bug -p nvidia- graphics-drivers-173, as it failed with "Package nvidia-graphics- drivers-173 does not exist") Simon. [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 588601] [NEW] I am getting fed up with Ubuntu releases
You have been subscribed to a public bug: Look - do you guys know what you are doing or not. I have been a user since approximately version 6. Up until 9.04 all is well, easy to use, set up etc. Starting with 9.10 it has been a mess. Difficult setup, hours killed getting the computer to work right, still not quite right after all is said and done. Now to version 10. On one of my other computers I upgraded 9.1 to 10. the upgrade did not work well for video, sound was always garbled and only after much work did I get video to work right. The problem seems to be the ATI video driver. When I open Synaptic Package Manager it reports that there are 3 broken packages on my system and to use "Broken" filter. I checked your web site but could not find any clear guidance on what "Broken" filter is so I tried Fix Broken Packages under Edit In Synaptic. Absolutely nothing happened, no message, no indication that the command worked or any other clue.. I then searched for videos drivers in Synaptic and found the fglrx file and tried to load it. I forget now but when I first upgraded, and tried to solve the video problem was told (forget what told me) that this is what I needed to load. I tried to load the file and received this error message An error occurred E: /var/cache/apt/archives/fglrx_2% 3a8.723.1-0ubuntu3_amd64.deb: subprocess new pre-installation script return error exit status 1 After more attempts over several days I got a really dumb idea. I decided to create a dual boot system with one boot being the upgrade ver. 10 and the other being created using a cd burned with the ver. 10 from your web site. I loaded the cd version and all seemed well at first. The cd ver. was notably faster (something I assumed might happen) and I now thought I could hopefully get video with good audio on the cd. ver. But guess what, I now have a computer with a dual boot (both ver. 10) but no internet access from either boot. The boot that use to access the internet fine except for buggy video and garbled sound won't access the internet and neither will the other boot. I am at a loss at this point as to what to do. I tried the icon in the upper right that says something like autoeth and all seemed well except it said it had never connect. Never had this type problem before so not sure what to do. Hate to start all over with a reload that just erases everything and end up at the same point. Any ideas? Guys it was this kind of never ending problems that made me give up Windows and become a Ubuntu and iMac (for the wife) house. At first you were great and easy to use, but lately it has not been worth the effort. In case you are wondering, I am reasonably computer literate, use the command line, learned PC's with the first IBM dual floppy machines, still think the HP41cv (not technically a computer) is (still have and use mine) one of the best products ever produced and enjoy working with computers for fun but not when I am forced to by poor upgrades. so give me some hope please. thanks David ** Affects: fglrx-installer (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New -- I am getting fed up with Ubuntu releases https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/588601 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to fglrx-installer in ubuntu. ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp
