[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 288918] Re: Keyboard layout randomly switches to US international (dead keys)
I can confirm that this bug appears in Ubuntu 10.04, Lucid Lynx. Oddly enough, I did not encounter it in 9.10. Anyway, for professional reasons, I generally switch between three different keyboard layouts: USA, USA International (with dead keys), and Latin American. I have configured GNOME to change the keyboard layout when I press Shift + Caps Lock. However, since upgrading to Lucid, the keyboard configuration will randomly switch without me entering the key sequence. Thus far, I have been unable to isolate a single common key sequence or action that triggers this change reliably, although I have found that using the mouse to select an item from a GNOME panel frequently triggers it. I have examined the hotkey settings, and found nothing that would explain why the layout keeps changing. As per the previous request, I am attaching a file containing my hardware profile and X log to this message. ** Attachment added: Output from lspci, xorg.conf, and X log. http://launchpadlibrarian.net/50250502/logoutput.txt ** Changed in: xorg-server (Ubuntu) Status: Expired = Confirmed -- Keyboard layout randomly switches to US international (dead keys) https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/288918 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to xorg-server in ubuntu. ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp
Re: [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 573957] Re: X server crashes randomly
Aeher - I have skype - will try uninstalling when I get a chance. Thank you :) On 12 June 2010 23:48, Aether raymond_d...@hotmail.com wrote: I think I found what does it on my machine. I did a fresh install and rather than my usual mods I only installed the kubuntu restricted extras package and firefox. I'd normally switch the network manager with wicd but I left this out. One other package I had before was Skype Beta 2.1.0.81-1 which is meant for 8.04+. I went all week without getting the error (it was normally several times a day) then an hour after I installed the Skype beta I got an X crash the same as I had been getting. I notice the package drops a file /etc/dbus-1/system.d/skype.conf - perhaps the changes in there cause the error. [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 528467] Re: [i855] GPU hung (drm i915 intel) on Lucid Lynx Alpha 3 live CD
This get more interesting. As a matter of fact I experience an xserver crash. The kernel seems to be intact. [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 593248] [NEW] .nvidia-settings-rc wil not load if 'Include X Display Names in the Config File' is checked
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: nvidia-settings The summary says it. nvidia-settings can't load .nvidia-settings-rc at startup if the 'Include X Display Names in the Config File' is checked in the 'nvidia-settings Configuration' submenu. Do you eperience the same issue with 2.6.34 stable kernel from the mainline? 2010/6/13 foobar timo.bu...@web.de: This issue affects me as well. In fact once while writing this post :-/ Sometimes I am able to ssh into my machine to give it a graceful shutdown. Often I have to press the Reset button, which I hate. Even being able to open a ssh session does not necessarily mean that a shutdown -r now will work. I cannot find anything inside my system logs either. Just a couple of zombie processes last time it froze, maybe this helps: t...@ubuntu-server:~$ ps aux | grep -w Z | grep -v grep root 1511 0.0 0.0 0 0 ? [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 570433] Re: [RV380] Garbage playing Videos with UMS, Textured Video Fullscreen
The problem is not only with Totem. Once it starts occuring, it seems to happen with all applications using XVideo/Textured video and when resizing to large size or fullscreen. One effect is that video image is rendered on a tiled pattern, separated by thin lines. The effect can get worse and videos become completely unviewable, looking almost like some kind of ASCII art video playback in fullscreen. It seems to be something that's leaking, since it typically only happens after applications have initialized/used Xvideo a number of times. A suspend/resume cycle or X restart fixes the problem for some time .. Once it starts happening, it's always there, and nothing else seems to help. Tested with latest radeon DDX driver git snapshot (as of June 13), no improvements over the driver that is currently shipped in Lucid. I'm attaching a screenshot showing the tiled corruption that occurs. It's rather easy to reproduce, but triggering it might be dependent on certain source video image dimensions (not sure). ** Attachment added: Screenshot, part of corrupted video frame resized through XVideo http://launchpadlibrarian.net/50271329/mplayer-xvideo-corruption.jpg -- [RV380] Garbage playing Videos with UMS, Textured Video Fullscreen https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/570433 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to xserver-xorg-video-ati in ubuntu. ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 586173] Re: [i945] intel gma 82945G xorg does not work at boot
Hi, I am a newbie and have a problem. When I start in Ubuntu, with Linux 2.6.32-22-generic, I will see the Ubuntu splash screen for a second, followed by a blank screen. My hard disk isn't spinning so I guess the system is doing nothing then. If I start in Ubuntu, with Linux 2.6.31-22-generic, everything is fine. So, I tried Ubuntu, with Linux 2.6.32-22-generic (recovery mode). At the Recovery Menu, I selected Run in failsafe graphic mode. At the next menu, I selected Troubleshoot the error, followed by Archive configuration and logs. The reply was Relevant configuration and log files have been saved to: $xorg_backup_file. I then selected Run Ubuntu in low-graphics mode for just one session. I can't find the $xorg_backup_file so I have no idea where the configuration and log files are. I am attaching a tar file I found at /var/log. Please advise me if my problem is the same as the bug reported here and what I should do. Re: [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 133060] Re: Synaptic touchpad fails to register some of the taps for tap-to-click
Well, the fix worked again, and I now have a patched x64 version of 1.2.2. Thanks again. FYI, on my end the patch applies at line 2090. There isn't even a line 2518 in that file. The difficulty for me (who doesn't really know what he's doing) is tracking where the patch is placed as the driver is updated. Does anyone know if this will ever just be incorporated in the driver itself, or where I should go to request that? Previous posts said it had been fixed upstream, but clearly it hasn't been. Also, it's not an Ubuntu or Debian issue, but a universal problem for this touchpad (I'm assuming the same in the e1405/e1505/e1705) in Linux (same poor functionality across distros). On Thu, Jun 3, 2010 at 5:44 AM, Kris kmbr...@gmail.com wrote: Josh, follow the steps given by Valentin Neacsu (posted 2007-09-01) The file to modify is in xserver-xorg-input-synaptics-1.2.2/src/synaptics.c just after the line 2518 where it says: Bool inside_active_area; /* update hardware state in shared memory */ if (shm) { shm-x = hw-x; shm-y = hw-y; shm-z = hw-z; ... Now it should look like: Bool inside_active_area; if (hw-x == 1 hw-y == 5855) { hw-numFingers = 0; hw-fingerWidth = 0; hw-z = 0; hw-x = HIST(0).x; hw-y = HIST(0).y; } /* update hardware state in shared memory */ if (shm) { shm-x = hw-x; shm-y = hw-y; shm-z = hw-z; It works for me and hopefully it will work for you. -- Synaptic touchpad fails to register some of the taps for tap-to-click https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/133060 You received this bug notification because you are a direct subscriber of the bug. -- Synaptic touchpad fails to register some of the taps for tap-to-click https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/133060 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to xserver-xorg-input-synaptics in ubuntu. ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 570433] Re: [RV380] Garbage playing Videos with UMS, Textured Video Fullscreen
Looks like it's related to bicubic image filtering in XV. Disabling XV_BICUBIC (via xvattr) makes the corruption go away. Re-enable XV_BICUBIC and corruption is back. This also explains why some videos don't trigger the problem, and why the problem only appears when scaling up past a certain size. XV_BICUBIC is default set to 2(auto), which only enables bicubic scaling (and thus show corruption) when video dimensions are scaled = 2x. I found the easiest work-around is to switch from X to a VT and back again, and the corruption goes away. I tried this because according to the following (old) radeon driver commit, XV bicubic texture is reloaded on VT-switch: http://cgit.freedesktop.org/xorg/driver/xf86-video- ati/commit/?id=474eda02257152ced52364f38cbad24c20aebbc0 [radeon: reload bicubic Xv texture on VT switch] It's also reloaded on suspend/resume, which is another work-around I have mentioned. -- [RV380] Garbage playing Videos with UMS, Textured Video Fullscreen https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/570433 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to xserver-xorg-video-ati in ubuntu. ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 549727] Re: [10.04] Touchpad stops working after login
I too experience this problem since a few days, probably after an update. At home I always use a mouse, so I did not notice until recently. I have an Acer Aspire One ZG5 with Ubuntu 10.04 2.6.32-22 generic. My touchpad is completely dead for all users. Unlike others it does neither temporarily work at the login screen, nor randomly, nor for a limited period. I tried Fn-F7, gconf-editor (Touchpad is enabled), mouse settings menu, checked outputs from dmesg | grep Touch, xinput list-props SynPS/2 Synaptics TouchPad and cat /proc/bus/input/devices. Nothing special found. Then I booted from a USB start-up stick with Ubuntu 9.10, with the expectance that touchpad would work again which would allow me to find the differences in settings. Guess what: it did not. I did the same listings and settings check, compared with the previous investigations. Again found nothing weird. Unless the problem was also present in the ubuntu-9.10-desktop-i386.iso (I maybe did not notice then since immediately after installation there were many updates), it leads to my suspicion that it the problem is resident in the netbook. Does this help anyone to find the root cause? Can anyone confirm the same behaviour on his laptop? I realise it could even be a hardware problem. Nevertheless, I'm still looking forward to a solution. ** Attachment added: investigation touchpad http://launchpadlibrarian.net/50281119/investigation%20touchpad.odt -- [10.04] Touchpad stops working after login https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/549727 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to xserver-xorg-input-synaptics in ubuntu. ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 322921] Re: At startup, can't drag windows between dual monitors
Driver is important because most xorg bugs are actually bugs in the drivers. Yes, it's possible the underlying issue is the same, but it's also possible the underlying issue is different, and it's much less confusing the treat the reports separately if there's any chance that they might in reality be separate. It's not like separate reports are going to hinder fixing this bug. I'm not sure why you're so against it. [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 585765] Re: Ubuntu 10.04 random freezes
Brand new Lenovo T510, 4gb RAM, Intel i5 (4 core) processor running Lucid. It's been freezing from day one. Just added pae to kernel (2.6.32-22-generic-pae) last week (for some reason installer did not see that I had 4gb of mem). Still, no difference, the computer is still freezing. The screensaver was running and I moved the mouse to wake it up and it froze. The good news is that I can SSH to it (usually it is completely hosed). Right TOP shows 99% cpu idle. Attached is kern.log with what could be an interesting stack trace: Jun 13 22:27:38 nwt-l-jn01 kernel: [94710.911040] INFO: task Xorg:1049 blocked for more than 120 seconds. Some other things to note: compiz is disabled, virtual box is disabled. When this current crash happened I was on AC power and I have the power settings set to not sleep, or spin down harddrives or anything, just turn on the screen saver (which is opengl picture show IIRC). ** Attachment added: kern.log http://launchpadlibrarian.net/50294285/kern.log -- Ubuntu 10.04 random freezes https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/585765 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to xorg-server in ubuntu. ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp
[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 378529] Re: Calibrate Touchscreen dialog said to report this.
I was told by people in the Touchsmarttdevzone.com that Ubuntu 10.04 supported the touchscreen, but I haven't been able to get it to work so I am adding a request for its support here. timlhi...@gmail.com 805-405-3271 Tim Hicks ** Attachment added: HAL list for lshal for a HP TouchSmart 300-1025 for Ubuntu 10.04. http://launchpadlibrarian.net/50294995/hal_list -- Calibrate Touchscreen dialog said to report this. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/378529 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to xf86-input-evtouch in ubuntu. ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp
