[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 511844] Re: Wacom Tablet is only recognized on first plug

2010-06-22 Thread Tim Cole
It seems, actually, that udev and the xinput bits in the xorg server are
at least doing what they should. Subsequent plugs and unplugs are
reflected as they should be in udev:

unplugged:

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 511844] Re: Wacom Tablet is only recognized on first plug

2010-06-22 Thread Tim Cole
I think I'll file a separate bug since this appears to be similar to but
not the same as the issue originally described. (We do see the tablet
being plugged in in Xorg.log each time, the kernel driver just isn't
generating events anymore.)

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 511844] Re: Wacom Tablet is only recognized on first plug

2010-06-22 Thread Tim Cole
Apparently evtest only works for pointer devices while X isn't running.
Anyway, with X turned off temporarily I can get useful output from it.
Apparently this is a kernel issue, and not an X issue, since I can
replicate the bug without X.

Steps to reproduce:

1) plug in a tablet (first time since boot)
2) sudo evtest /dev/input/wacom
3) scribble on the tablet and note events received
4) unplug tablet
5) plug tablet back in
6) note that events are no longer received by evtest when you manipulate the
tablet

Once the tablet is unplugged, the tablet driver remains in a non-working
state until reboot.

Re: [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 541492] Re: MASTER: [i845] GPU lockup (apport-crash) (Should KMS be blacklisted?)

2010-06-22 Thread Nandhakumar
Hi

2010/6/21 Nigel Atkinson ni...@atkinson.gen.nz

I've tried the driver from ppa:glasen/intel-driver on two identical
machines with i845 (from Memory - not at them at present). One seems to
now work fine and can even run Blender without crashing (which would
instantly previously). It has the server kernel (server + gnome-
 desktop).

On the other, a standard 10.04 desktop install (and Parents machine to
hard to test on) - I'm not sure if the driver made things more stable as
I had to revert due to a problem with pictures, usually photos in
Firefox. The pictures would initially show as a black rectangle, but
usually show the picture once moused over. Some showed a previous
picture slightly offset. It looks to me like the initial texture coping
is not working - and having the mouse cursor over that part of the
 screen forces an update.

Here's hoping this info gives someone an 'A ha!' moment. :-)

automatically reported GPU lockups as duplicates of this unless there is a
 reason not to.

A fixed kernel is available at
 https://launchpad.net/~brian-rogers/+archive/graphics-fixeshttps://launchpad.net/%7Ebrian-rogers/+archive/graphics-fixes

To use this fixed kernel, run the following commands:

 sudo apt-add-repository ppa:brian-rogers/graphics-fixes
 sudo apt-get update
 sudo apt-get dist-upgrade
 sudo apt-get install linux-image-2.6.34-v9patch-generic

There is a similar master bug report for i855 at bug 541511.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 511844] Re: Wacom Tablet is only recognized on first plug

2010-06-22 Thread Tim Cole
Tried to use evtest on the tablet, but I'm not able to get evtest output
for either the tablet or the laptop's trackpad; I'm not sure what's up
with that. May be an evtest issue.

(Unlike the tablet, I do get output from `xinput test` for the
trackpad.)

2010-06-22 Thread Tim Cole
However, except for the first time the tablet is plugged in, it doesn't
actually work. When using `xinput test`, no events actually seem to be
getting generated by the device.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 596001] Re: Disappear titlebar and maximize, minimize windows options

2010-06-22 Thread Andres Freund
You can start updating again now. They just had some packages out with
too high version numbers which wouldnt get easily updated anymore. Well,
they could have upped the epoch, but that would have been too much of a
change on all the normal packages.

2010-06-22 Thread Geir Ove Myhr
Thank you for reporting this problem. Could you try and run this command
in a terminal before you plug in the external monitor and upload the
resulting file (udevadm.log) here (after you reboot)?

udevadm monitor --property ~/udevadm.log

Hopefully, there will be some clue to what is going on in this file.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 597184] [NEW] video playback broken with fglrx driver on ati mobility radeon hd 5470

2010-06-22 Thread Mio
Public bug reported:

On Ubuntu Lucid with a Packard Bell EasyNote TJ75, Intel Core i3 330M,
ATI Mobility Radeon HD 5470 installing the fglrx driver (both from the
repositories and from the official AMD download page) results in broken
video playback. That is where the video should be it's just black but
you can hear the audio. I tried with various video players (totem, vlc
..) and various formats(avi,dvd,m4v,mkv,..). Flash in Firefox does work
though..

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 297335] Re: Video on Intel D201GLY2 motherboard still broken, can't compile Intel's fixed drivers

2010-06-22 Thread papukaija
Please do as suggested in comment 9 if you can reproduce this bug in
lucid/maverick. There is no need to compile, just use the repos.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 532436] Re: nvidia driver sometime does not load at boot

2010-06-22 Thread Cesare Mastroianni

I came into this bug report from my personal report #583660, which seems to be
quite similar, or maybe a duplicate.

Today I tried to add GdmXserverTimeout=60 into the [daemon] section
of /etc/gdm/custom.conf. From that moment on, gdm won't start anymore
nor at boot nor at command line (sudo start gdm). Then I needed to
remove that configuration line to get gdm work again (only from the
command line).

I found into my log files the same error as above You reported:
(EE) Jun 22 14:43:47 NVIDIA(0): Failed to initialize the NVIDIA kernel module.
Please see the
(EE) Jun 22 14:43:47 NVIDIA(0): system's kernel log for additional error
messages and
(EE) Jun 22 14:43:47 NVIDIA(0): consult the NVIDIA README for details.
(EE) NVIDIA(0): *** Aborting ***
(EE) Screen(s) found, but none have a usable configuration

But when I run GDM from command line, no error is issued.

Today, the automatic check of disks performed a chkdsk routine at the
boot. After this event, GDM started automatically as one should expect.
I hope this will help You.

(Should I mark my bug #583660 as duplicate of this bug #532436 ???)

Ciao
CM

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 532436] Re: nvidia driver sometime does not load at boot

2010-06-22 Thread Manuel Bua
@Cesare, this is quite interesting.
I've got your very same error message if i *omit* the GdmXserverTimeout=60
setting instead, now that i'm trying i can't even boot anymore if omitting it,
then i'll leave it as is for now: i could bet i'll need to revert that gdm.conf
line in two weeks.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 571638] Re: Keyboard does not work when touchpad disable button pressed

2010-06-22 Thread Matt_91
Hi, I have this problem too.
but I noticed something strange. When this happens, if I go to one of the
console with CTRL + ALT + F1 and then return to graphics mode, and the keyboard
starts to work and second that it recharges the graphic mode the mouse works,
and are forced to use an external mouse .
Then if I go out and go from GNOME to KDE (although I have not seen graphics
that I have installed all of KDE), the touchpad works, and also the login
screen it works.

Sorry if I haven't written in correct English.
Always available for questions.

2010-06-22 Thread Ingo B.
Hello,

I passed by (because having some xorg difficulties recently) and tested
Scenario 2 just out of curiosity on Lucid.
I don't experience the described behaviour, no crashes.

Tested the non-ubuntu nvidia driver 'nvidia-current-195.36.15' from nvidia
website
but also the xorg default driver 'nv'

My hardware is a Lenovo Thinkpad T61.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 528467] Re: [i855] GPU hung (drm i915 intel) on Lucid Lynx Alpha 3 live CD

2010-06-22 Thread Geir Ove Myhr
Christian, we're all better off if you report your problem separately
instead of adding it as a comment on another bug report. Comments on a
bug saying essentially I have this problem... are at best ignored and
at worst very confusing if we start mixing up the commenters problem
with the problem of the original reporter (and the difference may be
very subtle).

I don't mean to be harsh, but we only focus on the problem of the
original reporter in each bug report and we ask that all comments also
focus on that problem. For xorg-related bugs we much prefer duplicate
bug reports over me too comments, since issues that look the same
often turn out to be different underlying problems.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 597368] Re: immutable inexplicable screen switch

2010-06-22 Thread keepitsimpleengr
Well, I haven't fixed it, but I did find a work-around. It is
astonishing, but at least it worked!

1) From terminal: sudo nvidia-settings
2) Under X Server Display Configuration arrange Layout with larger screen to
left.
3) Press Configure... button and select TwinView.
4) Press the Save to X Configuration File
5) Restart computer (or X server)
6) From terminal: sudo nvidia-settings
7) Press Configure... button and select Seperate X Screen.
8) Press the Save to X Configuration File
9) Cross your fingers
10) Restart computer (or X server)

Re: [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 208899] Re: Xorg crashes drawing complex geometries

2010-06-22 Thread Tim Keitt
That's great. I just displayed the data in QGIS and it does not crash
either in lucid. Would be interesting to check the change log for the
file with the function where the protection error was occurring.
