[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 565543] Re: horizontal scrollbar does not work in VAIO VPCEB15EL touchpad.

2010-06-30 Thread simar
Vladimir It appears that you don't have the package xserver-xorg-input-
synaptics installed in your linux.

To serve you better I have a few questions. Have you got a synaptics touchpad
or a ALPS touchpad.
Does synaptics drivers work with alps touchpad? I mean have you got your
touchpad worked ever with synaptics drivers?

Vladimir also try this and upload the results..
cat /var/log/Xorg.0.log | grep TouchPad (mind the caps)
cat /var/log/Xorg.0.log | grep Synaptics

2010-06-30 Thread Segitz
I have the same problem too... ever since some recent update, the
touchpad is detected as a PS2 mouse. But that made the scrolling work.

The Sony Vaio E series has an ALPS touchpad, as it was detected as such
with the original 10.4 installation.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 531069] Re: Display error when returning from sleep after docking

2010-06-30 Thread Chris Halse Rogers
Alright. Testing locally, I can reproduce (2) with apparently 100%
ease.

Performing these steps:
1) Boot laptop in docking station, lid closed
2) Remove laptop from docking station
3) Open lid and wakeup laptop
4) Close lid and sleep
5) Place laptop in docking station
6) Wakeup with lid closed

I get a turned-on, but blanked display on the external monitor; opening
the laptop lid reveals the password prompt.

Disabling the xrandr plugin from
/apps/gnome_settings_daemon/plugins/xrandr/active removes this
behaviour. The laptop wakes up in in clone mode, and the password
prompt is visible.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 312756] Re: support graphics card hot switch

2010-06-30 Thread mcsan
There is a hack to enable ONLY the discrete video card in ASUS ULXX-VT
models, which might be applicable to some similar hardware here;

Changing the SATA operation mode in BIOS from enhanced to compatible
has the side effect of completely disabling the Intel card, and enabling
the nVidia g210m card instead.

Unfortunately this setting noticeably slows down times to boot and
suspend/resume
but hopefully it is a hint towards a solution that could be triggered from
userspace

I have tried to duplicate this effect, removing the intel device from the PCI
bus, by means of the fake PCI hotplug driver:
(with nomodeset kernel option) rmmod i915 modprobe fakephpecho 0
/sys/bus/pci/slots/\:00\:02.0/power modprobe nvidia-current

Yet that still doesn't seem to allow the nvidia card to be used in X;
information in Xorg.0.log looks almost the same as when specifying a BusID for
the nvidia card
(either approach shows the X server loading the nvidia drivers, but the nvidia
card's PCI ID is listed as the Primary Device when it is the only card)

Interestingly, the Intel video card comes back when sending a power-on signal
to the _SATA controller_!:
echo 1 /sys/bus/pci/slots/\:00\:1f.2/power

Perhaps someone more familiar with the setpci command could suggest some
similar functions to try?

I have seen mention that it may be even possible to change the SATA mode via
setpci:

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 600116] [NEW] [gm45] GPU lockup f822dc02

2010-06-30 Thread Chris Halse Rogers
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: xserver-xorg-video-intel

This lockup occurred during the investigation of bug #531069, when

From what I can tell the python program in comment 31 appears to open an
X connection, fork, and then use that X connection from both the child
and the parent. That can't possibly work.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 600140] [NEW] '~$ sudo shutdown now' does not shut down

2010-06-30 Thread Detlef Lechner
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: xorg

Rather, an ncurses recovery menu appears but lets me not shut down the computer.
I'd like to emphasize that the same bug appears on another laptop computer

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 593178] Re: Lucid - freeze/crash with antspotlight screensaver

2010-06-30 Thread Mark Hugo
I have installed 10.04 i386 Desktop on 2 Compaq Evo PCs. On both of them
the screen flashes black/white vertical bars when the screensaver kicks
in. The system becomes unresponsive but I am able to do ALT+ SYSREQ+
S+U+B. When entering the screensaver gui to change the settings, the
problems occurs immediately. I managed to increase the idle time-out
using Gconf-editor  apps  gnome-screensaver.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 596402] Re: Nouveau driver works horrible on Nvidia Geforce2

2010-06-30 Thread papukaija
Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make
Ubuntu better. Please run the command 'apport-collect 596402' from the
Terminal (ApplicationsAccessoriesTerminal) which will attach necessary
information for debugging this as an Xorg problem. Thanks in advance.

Ps. I removed your email from the report to avoid spam.

** Description changed:

  Binary package hint: xserver-xorg-video-nouveau

Ubutnu allways worked fine on mi pc until the new Ubuntu 10.04 LTS, where you
put Nouveau driver as default, who works very bad for me, instead of the
classic driver I get on System-Administration-Hardware Drivers. The problem
starts when I introduce the Live CD and the mouse doesnt worked, and I have to
install only with the keyboard. Also the installation was very slow too,
compared with other versions of Ubuntu, and in the end the pc freezes including
the keyboard and I have to reboot with the power button. Then I turn on my pc
and starts Ubuntu, all good up there, but 10 seconds after it freezes and I
have to reboot again.
After this, I also tried Linux Mint 9, Ubuntu Studio 10.04 and Fedora 13 but
with all the same problem because all uses nouveau; I can only work on recovery
mode.

  Here is my pc:

  Ubuntu 9.10 (because I cant use 10.04)
2 HD ATA: 80GB and 40GB (windows and linux)
- RAM 768MB DDR
+ RAM 768MB DDR

- is there any solution to this problem?? if so here is my email

2010-06-30 Thread papukaija
In order to determine if this issue is usplash related, please boot your
computer with usplash disabled and then shutdown to see if you can
reproduce the issue? To disable usplash for a single boot, follow these
steps:

1. Press Esc during Grub boot delay to access the boot menu.
2. Select your actual Ubuntu boot line and press e to edit it.
3. Select the linux line and at the end of the line, remove splash and
quiet.
5. Type ctrl + x to boot the custom boot line.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 565543] Re: horizontal scrollbar does not work in VAIO VPCEB15EL touchpad.

2010-06-30 Thread Vladimir Hidalgo
simar, thank you for your attention into this problem.

As Segitz stated, VAIO E series area ALPS (multitouch) touchpad.

I think original summary was ok because default 10.04 installation
detect it as AlpS and neither vertical/horizontal scrollbar works.

In a effort to make both work, I blindy updated my kernel to 2.6.34,
which made vertical scrollbar work, later to 2.6.35-rc3 but nothing else
changed.

Then I upgraded Xorg with xorg-edgers's ppa, wich I might say, worsen
the situation as I lost the ability to simulate 3rd button click (mouse
wheel click / middle button click).

I already had installed xserver-xorg-input-synaptics when doing the
xev's test.

$ cat /var/log/Xorg.0.log | grep -i TouchPad
nothing

$ cat /var/log/Xorg.0.log | grep -i Synaptics
nothing

I had a optical mouse connected last time, so a new grep -i mouse:

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 531069] Re: Display error when returning from sleep after docking

2010-06-30 Thread Chris Halse Rogers
Aha. It seems that this is specific to VGA outputs. I've run into bug
#600116 (filed separately to attach all the relevant information and
because it's different hardware) performing the steps with a VGA
connector attached, but not a DVI/DisplayPort connection.

In this case, dmesg ends up full of lines like:
[ 674.521262] [drm:i915_hangcheck_elapsed] *ERROR* Hangcheck timer elapsed...
GPU hung
[ 674.521307] [drm:i915_do_wait_request] *ERROR* i915_do_wait_request returns
-5 (awaiting 1520 at 52)
indicating a GPU hang.

Running /usr/share/apport/apport-gpu-error-intel.py while this is
happening will construct an apport report containing all the relevant
information - particularly: dmesg, Xorg.0.log,
/sys/kernel/debug/dri/0/i915_error_state, and the output of
intel_gpu_dump.

From what I can tell the python program in comment 31 appears to open an

And yet it does, in Ubuntu Karmic.

All that the child process is running is (or should be):
time.sleep(1)
while True:
line = raw_input( )
sys.stdout.write( + line + '\n')
os._exit(0)
Though I may be mistaken, none of this appears to use the X connection.
Comparison to the code in comment 33 shows that this same code executes just
fine in the child process so long as the child process doesn't have the gtk or
vte objects. It's certainly possible that there's a problem in GTK, VTE, or
their python bindings, but it seems strange to me that this problem was
introduced at the same time as a similar one in Qt.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 568492] Re: Fonts corrupted on Openoffice menus and Lotus Notes 8.5 with nvidia, compiz, twinview and subpixel smoothing.

2010-06-30 Thread Queery1985
I get The same thing with OOO and Cream. Both changing to best shape
and taking away the anti-aliasing in OOO works. But that is not a good
fix. I have attached a screenshot showing how it tries to incorporate
the top of my menu into the background of the menu. It is so weird!

The problem appears to be solved in kubuntu/maverick. Nouveau is working
properly in that distribution. I have not tried with any others.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 600243] [NEW] libegl1-mesa-dev needs to depend on other -dev packages

2010-06-30 Thread Alexandros Frantzis
Public bug reported:

The libegl1-mesa-dev binary package includes egl.pc which contains:

Requires.private: libdrm = 2.4.15 dri2proto = 2.1 glproto = 1.4.11
x11 xext xxf86vm xdamage xfixes

Therefore, libegl1-mesa-dev should depend on the -dev packages that
contain the required .pc files.

The attached patch fixes this.

Note, however, that a 100% correct fix should also offer an alternative
version of egl.pc for the hurd-i386 architecture that doesn't include
libdrm in Requires.private. Of course, Ubuntu is not affected by this.

** Tags added: apport-collected

** Description changed:

  Binary package hint: xorg

I have two days ago attached an external TFT monitor to my HP Compaq
nx6115 notebook. The monitor is Viewsonic VA1912. I set up dual displays
  using System-Preferences-Display as a mirror.

I have noticed that the external viewsonic monitor suddenly goes blank
and the display stops working. A message pops up saying No signal. The
notebook display however, is working fine.

On the two occassions that this has happened, I was using the mouse. In
the first instance, some link in Firefox and in the recent incident, a
  mail header in thunderbird.

as Xorg.0.log.old shows there seems to have been some problem with X
(ddxSigGiveup) which made the second monitor go blank.

Can hardware acceleration please be blacklisted again so I can go back

That's all it takes, right? Is that hard?

Two months after release. This is really messed up.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 600293] [NEW] font corruption on intel g41

2010-06-30 Thread Bastien Durel
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: xserver-xorg-video-intel

After some time, almost randomly, fonts turns to scramble on X.

Showing desktop via VNC presents scrambled fonts.
Switching to vt1 and back to vt7 don't solve problem.
Restarting X (sudo restart gdm) solves the problem.

Today, the problem starts after a click on the nautilus up button. Last
week it was when showing a web page. I cannort reproduce this at will,
though.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 598368] Re: Nvidia restricted driver, black screen

2010-06-30 Thread gfariello
Affects me as well (X42JV-X1), affects Ubuntu 9.04 and 9.10 and derived
distros (Mint 8/9 Kubuntu, etc).

nouveau will not use nVidia 335M. It is loaded, but only the integrated
intel chip is used. Black screen occurs when telling X to use nouveau
or nvidia device drivers (from restricted repos or downloading from
nVidia and compiling). Cannot change to console or boot into safe mode.

Disabling glx / intel drivers does not solve the problem.

I'm not entirely sure if rendering a laptop unusable should be a low
priority bug.

Thanks folks.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 600312] [NEW] xorg freezes

2010-06-30 Thread pramathesh ambasta
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: xorg

I don't know if this is the same or slightly different from bugs 503393
and 542603 also filed me relating to xserver freezes. Yesterday I was
working on thunderbird and the system froze. Today it had happened
again, again working on thunderbird.

The Xorg.0.log.old says one strange thing:

(II) XKB: reuse xkmfile
/var/lib/xkb/server-F8D9B4EE1D9075AF4B1C23C75362EE93E14954A0.xkm
disable LVDS
enable LVDS

Yesterday, after searching around for this xorg message found a link
that suggested I should create radeon-kms.conf inside /etc/modrobe.d
with the line options radeon modeset=0. I did this and also disabled
all desktop effects. But things froze again.

Grateful for help

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 598368] Re: Nvidia restricted driver, black screen

2010-06-30 Thread Dave Bekker
Newegg commented on the same issue:
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16834220739

Appears to be a problem with the BIOS. Very disappointing!

I've tried numerous workarounds, but no joy. Was about to try Suse 11
when I saw the newegg article.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 353126] Re: Compiz / vnc screen refresh with nvidia-restricted driver/VirtualBox/ATI fglrx driver using X.org

2010-06-30 Thread jose
after I added the nvidia ppa and installe the nvidia drivers, I checked to see
if it was installed and running by 1) checking the hardware drivers to see if
nvidia current driver was installed and active, I also checked sysinfo which
also showed that it was installed. I then ran sudo nvidia-settings from a
terminal and accepted the default settings, hit save that writes the correct
xorg.conf file, reboot and everything runs great. Althouhg using the default
vnc viewer from ubuntu stinks, I just use remmina and set the colrs to 256,
great performance andit seems to be working. I did not test with the 185
drivers on 10.04 so I can't comment on that, but past experience with 9.10
indicates that it does not work.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 532436] Re: nvidia driver sometime does not load at boot

2010-06-30 Thread Manuel Bua
Yesterday updates didn't help: now with gdm 2.30.2.is.2.30.0-0ubuntu2 (curious
naming btw) i'm experiencing the same problem at every boot, no matter if i
disconnect/connect usb drives, reboot or shutdown; furthermore, i'm now unable
to access to a console prompt since everything hang after asking to exit to
console when the X server gives the configuration error and CTRL+ALT+F1-7
only show just a blinking cursor and nothing else.
The only way i can boot to a working desktop is to CTRL+ALT+RSYS+B and hope the
best since i can no longer issue a (sudo) service gdm start: also, most of
the times this lead to a desktop where the gnome panels are quite screwed up,
gnome sensors applet hangs, shortcuts aren't there, date/time prefs are gone,
etc.. but everything is back at normal if sudo killall gnome-panel.
Someone with other experiences?

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 598368] Re: Nvidia restricted driver, black screen

2010-06-30 Thread gfariello
I suspect it's not so much a BIOS issue, though it's possible that
disabling the Intel GPU at the hardware level might help.
