Have you got a synaptics touchpad or a ALPS touchpad. Does synaptics drivers work with alps touchpad? I mean have you got your touchpad worked ever with synaptics drivers? [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 531069] Re: Display error when returning from sleep after docking
Alright. Testing locally, I can reproduce (2) with apparently 100% ease. Performing these steps: 1) Boot laptop in docking station, lid closed 2) Remove laptop from docking station 3) Open lid and wakeup laptop 4) Close lid and sleep 5) Place laptop in docking station 6) Wakeup with lid closed I get a turned-on, but blanked display on the external monitor; opening the laptop lid reveals the password prompt. Disabling the xrandr plugin from /apps/gnome_settings_daemon/plugins/xrandr/active removes this behaviour. The laptop wakes up in in clone mode, and the password prompt is visible. -- Display error when returning from sleep after docking https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/531069 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to xserver-xorg-video-intel in ubuntu. ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp
[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 312756] Re: support graphics card hot switch
There is a hack to enable ONLY the discrete video card in ASUS ULXX-VT models, which might be applicable to some similar hardware here; Changing the SATA operation mode in BIOS from enhanced to compatible has the side effect of completely disabling the Intel card, and enabling the nVidia g210m card instead. Unfortunately this setting noticeably slows down times to boot and suspend/resume but hopefully it is a hint towards a solution that could be triggered from userspace I have tried to duplicate this effect, removing the intel device from the PCI bus, by means of the fake PCI hotplug driver: (with nomodeset kernel option) rmmod i915 modprobe fakephpecho 0 /sys/bus/pci/slots/\:00\:02.0/power modprobe nvidia-current Yet that still doesn't seem to allow the nvidia card to be used in X; information in Xorg.0.log looks almost the same as when specifying a BusID for the nvidia card (either approach shows the X server loading the nvidia drivers, but the nvidia card's PCI ID is listed as the Primary Device when it is the only card) Interestingly, the Intel video card comes back when sending a power-on signal to the _SATA controller_!: echo 1 /sys/bus/pci/slots/\:00\:1f.2/power Perhaps someone more familiar with the setpci command could suggest some similar functions to try? I have seen mention that it may be even possible to change the SATA mode via setpci: http://www.spinics.net/lists/linux-pci/msg08942.html -- support graphics card hot switch https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/312756 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to xorg-server in ubuntu. ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 565543] Re: horizontal scrollbar does not work in VAIO VPCEB15EL touchpad.
simar, thank you for your attention into this problem. As Segitz stated, VAIO E series area ALPS (multitouch) touchpad. I think original summary was ok because default 10.04 installation detect it as AlpS and neither vertical/horizontal scrollbar works. [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 531069] Re: Display error when returning from sleep after docking
Aha. It seems that this is specific to VGA outputs. I've run into bug #600116 (filed separately to attach all the relevant information and because it's different hardware) performing the steps with a VGA connector attached, but not a DVI/DisplayPort connection. In this case, dmesg ends up full of lines like: [ 674.521262] [drm:i915_hangcheck_elapsed] *ERROR* Hangcheck timer elapsed... GPU hung [ 674.521307] [drm:i915_do_wait_request] *ERROR* i915_do_wait_request returns -5 (awaiting 1520 at 52) indicating a GPU hang. Running /usr/share/apport/apport-gpu-error-intel.py while this is happening will construct an apport report containing all the relevant information - particularly: dmesg, Xorg.0.log, /sys/kernel/debug/dri/0/i915_error_state, and the output of intel_gpu_dump.

On 06/30/2010 05:14 AM, Julien Cristau wrote: From what I can tell the python program in comment 31 appears to open an X connection, fork, and then use that X connection from both the child and the parent. That can't possibly work. And yet it does, in Ubuntu Karmic. All that the child process is running is (or should be): time.sleep(1) while True: line = raw_input( ) sys.stdout.write( + line + '\n') os._exit(0) Though I may be mistaken, none of this appears to use the X connection. Comparison to the code in comment 33 shows that this same code executes just fine in the child process so long as the child process doesn't have the gtk or vte objects. It's certainly possible that there's a problem in GTK, VTE, or their python bindings, but it seems strange to me that this problem was introduced at the same time as a similar one in Qt. -- apport-kde assert failure: python: ../../src/xcb_io.c:242: process_responses: Assertion `(((long) (dpy-last_request_read) - (long) (dpy-request)) = 0)' failed. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/419501 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to libxcb in ubuntu. ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp

apport information ** Tags added: apport-collected ** Description changed: Binary package hint: xorg I have two days ago attached an external TFT monitor to my HP Compaq nx6115 notebook. The monitor is Viewsonic VA1912. I set up dual displays using System-Preferences-Display as a mirror. I have noticed that the external viewsonic monitor suddenly goes blank and the display stops working. A message pops up saying No signal. The notebook display however, is working fine. On the two occassions that this has happened, I was using the mouse. In the first instance, some link in Firefox and in the recent incident, a mail header in thunderbird. as Xorg.0.log.old shows there seems to have been some problem with X (ddxSigGiveup) which made the second monitor go blank. Affects me as well (X42JV-X1), affects Ubuntu 9.04 and 9.10 and derived distros (Mint 8/9 Kubuntu, etc). nouveau will not use nVidia 335M. It is loaded, but only the integrated intel chip is used. Black screen occurs when telling X to use nouveau or nvidia device drivers (from restricted repos or downloading from nVidia and compiling). Cannot change to console or boot into safe mode. Disabling glx / intel drivers does not solve the problem. I'm not entirely sure if rendering a laptop unusable should be a low priority bug. [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 600312] [NEW] xorg freezes
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: xorg I don't know if this is the same or slightly different from bugs 503393 and 542603 also filed me relating to xserver freezes. Yesterday I was working on thunderbird and the system froze. Today it had happened again, again working on thunderbird. The Xorg.0.log.old says one strange thing: (II) XKB: reuse xkmfile /var/lib/xkb/server-F8D9B4EE1D9075AF4B1C23C75362EE93E14954A0.xkm disable LVDS enable LVDS Yesterday, after searching around for this xorg message found a link that suggested I should create radeon-kms.conf inside /etc/modrobe.d with the line options radeon modeset=0. [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 353126] Re: Compiz / vnc screen refresh with nvidia-restricted driver/VirtualBox/ATI fglrx driver using X.org
after I added the nvidia ppa and installe the nvidia drivers, I checked to see if it was installed and running by 1) checking the hardware drivers to see if nvidia current driver was installed and active, I also checked sysinfo which also showed that it was installed. I then ran sudo nvidia-settings from a terminal and accepted the default settings, hit save that writes the correct xorg.conf file, reboot and everything runs great. Althouhg using the default vnc viewer from ubuntu stinks, I just use remmina and set the colrs to 256, great performance andit seems to be working. I did not test with the 185 drivers on 10.04 so I can't comment on that, but past experience with 9.10 indicates that it does not work. [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 532436] Re: nvidia driver sometime does not load at boot
Yesterday updates didn't help: now with gdm 2.30.2.is.2.30.0-0ubuntu2 (curious naming btw) i'm experiencing the same problem at every boot, no matter if i disconnect/connect usb drives, reboot or shutdown; furthermore, i'm now unable to access to a console prompt since everything hang after asking to exit to console when the X server gives the configuration error and CTRL+ALT+F1-7 only show just a blinking cursor and nothing else. The only way i can boot to a working desktop is to CTRL+ALT+RSYS+B and hope the best since i can no longer issue a (sudo) service gdm start: also, most of the times this lead to a desktop where the gnome panels are quite screwed up, gnome sensors applet hangs, shortcuts aren't there, date/time prefs are gone, etc.. but everything is back at normal if sudo killall gnome-panel.
